Duncan's had more dimensionality. A lot, if not all of these sound differences, effect playing not listening. As a listerner the cheap p ups are just fine, but if I was playing I think the Duncan's would be stand out better instead of moderately better
I would love to see you do a test where you traded the pickups of an entry level guitar with a well known coveted brand and vice vera that name brand guitar and not tell us so we can see if players are choosing which guitar sounds best with our eyes instead of our ears.
I love my Gibson as it is and don’t want to touch it with a soldering iron lol. But, I am always on the lookout for used Gibson pickups and have plenty of cheapo guitars to put them in. I’ll see what comes up on the used market.
Ive got a £2000 gibson with hand wound pickups costing £250. Ive got a £80 chinese tele copy, i wouldnt say one sounded better than the other, just different. Sound is subjective.
