I would imagine you're gonna relocate it to under the hood like the earlier WJ's. I would just get everything from your local salvage yard from a donor vehicle And swap everything over. And you'll also need to do a little wiring as well.
@@martinbuilt thats what I was thinking I wasn't sure if that was the most reasonable place as I am building for off road use but don't think water (water crossings) will be much of an issue . Thanks Martin
Beautiful work! You could use the old spare tire place for some tools now. Do you keep the spare tire in the luggage area now? I hope you can solve the fueling issue and "parachute" issue.
I haven't carried a spare for years, I have an air compressor and AAA...Lol I'm not to worried about the fuel fill issue, it's just a little slower than normal.
Any chance you have a video showing how to relocate the EVAP canister ? I relocated mine without pics ( stupid ) now I don't know where the middle hose on top of the canister goes and what attaches to the small tube on the gas filler neck . If anyone knows, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance
The small hose that is attached to that round grey thing goes to the fill neck vent and the middle hose on the canister goes is the large hose that heads to the front of the Jeep.
Thank you, I just don't run a spare. I keep a compressor on me kind of similar to a lot of these new cars like the BMW, all they got is a little compressor.
The aluminum filler neck and vent, if you install it 180 degrees from how it’s supposed to go in (upside down) trim 2.5-3.5 inches off your filler and vent neck side (not the hoses) you don’t have to cut and run ur lines threw your unibody just saying already went threw this months ago.
Great job Martin. 👍👍👍 Could an electric motor with a foot switch be attached to the bead roller, to give the same speed as hand cranking?. That was a great idea with the bicycle wheel for support.
I'm on my 8th and FINAL WJ and I don't think I'd ever do this as I don't see the point. All of your other mods are very applicable. Spare tire pan provides structural integrity for the frame though doesn't it...?
The spare tire holder does add some structural integrity one of the reasons I didn't eliminate it all together and why I added rolled beads to the steel plate and welded it in 100% I feel the vehicle is much safer now that the gas tank is tucked up under the vehicle more and doesn't expose it as much as it did before to a rear impact. It sure looks better than that saggy diaper. Thank you for watching.
How can I source someone with a bead roller in my area? What kind of shop am I looking for because I've been waiting for part two and am definitely gonna be doing this
Here is the link Eastwood Metal Bead Roller Create Channels Flanges Profiles Durable Steel Construction www.amazon.com/dp/B07WCCGCN2/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_sSPnFb5GCGDTB
Thanks for all the info. I will definitely probably buy one of these. I'm also looking into copying this mod. Awesome info and video as usual Martin!!!
LOL... You must not have watched the entire video I mentioned that I can't run a spare tire so all I'm using is a 12 volt air compressor. Much like many of the new cars of today.

Well not currently at the time I've been busy working on my new shop but hopefully I'm going to retire at the end of 2024 and then I would be willing to do stuff like this for others. Thank you for asking and watching.
From what I've seen at my visits at Pic-a-Part, it doesn't matter what year or sub models it's almost hit-and-miss. I would imagine that all Overlands have a heavy-duty skip plate. I've actually been thinking about building another one with the light duty skid plate just to reduce the weight of my Jeep. Since I don't go off-road, that one at all.
I have a problem with grand cherokee 2000 4.7, I changed the cranksensor because it turns off I have to wait for it to cool down and turn it on again, but it still keeps turning it on. would it be the fuel pump?

Trent I’m not jumping in on him, but over heating a 4.7 is almost certain death. The break down of the tappets and dropping rockers is almost guaranteed. It’s very much fixable, but plan for tappets, timing chain, rockers, and head gaskets. I recommend a chain soon after 200k but seen oem go 300k
@@nate4036 it has 175,000 some odd miles on it. Its been overheated at least twice now. Both times were heater core related. Amazing job Martin! I am working on my own WJ off road build. Now I am unable to tuck my own gas tank. What would you say this would cost to have done professionally?
Great job!, Martin I have a 2003 WJ Overland and I have problems with the differential shafts, they are original, they are permanently blocked, dana 35 and dana 44, what do you recommend, change the axles or repair them?
sorry to hear, what do you mean by permanently blocked? you could replace them for around $200 per axle at Pick-a-Part Your front axle is a Dana 30 and rear is Dana 44
If you have the overland with the 30/44 combo you likely have LSD's (come's with the Quadra-Trac 2), i wouldn't give them up as they are about the best factory axle set up on a WJ that you can get, mine is an 04 WJ Overland and that as I understand it was standard for that model however mine is Canadian, don't think it matter's. Not quite sure what the problem is but it sounds like either axle seals or cv boot's either way cheep parts that may be messy to replace but not hard for a tool user. BTW Nice job Martin
@@martinbuilt Thanks for your comments Martin, when doing a test turning the wheels in the air, both wheels on the axle always turn in the same direction, and on the way you feel the blockage when turning, I am writing to you from Chile in SouthAmerica
@@dshepard3161 Thanks for your comments friend, that's how it has LDS, I usually import the spare parts from Ebay to Chile, the problem is that the bleokeo of the axis is permanent, it is not released, it is practical in off-road but not in the city, some suggest me to change axles and put Air lock or electronic lock, and others suggest me to repair the LDS system, if the LDS is cheaper but difficult to find the repair kit, I don't know which one to choose
@@joseluisguajardo3732 Ah I see, my bad for assuming that you were in North America, "bleokeo" is not a word i understand, however from what you are saying it sounds like the diff is not disconnecting under normal driving conditions, if this is the case yes air lockers are an option however you may find it much cheaper to get a new set of viscose coupler's (clutches) for the factory unit's, they do require a diff oil that has an additive for friction however. I have to say that mine has only just rolled 220,000 km but I use her rough towing a trailer into the bush country/mountains of west Canada hunting. Never had a problem. As i do not have any idea how hard it is to import anything to Chile or what prices may be like i can only help as far as tech knowledge goes and your friends may be right about changing the factory LSD's out, but the D44 is un-stoppable up to 35" rubber in that weight class so don't dump it unless you have a direct drop in replacement, setting up new link's requires some experience.

After watching both Videos. Would the tank fit between the frame rails if guy wanted to flat belly the tank? Thanks
Martin, im planing on relocating my evap system from the lower left corner, do you have any sudgestions?
I would imagine you're gonna relocate it to under the hood like the earlier WJ's. I would just get everything from your local salvage yard from a donor vehicle And swap everything over. And you'll also need to do a little wiring as well.
@@martinbuilt thats what I was thinking I wasn't sure if that was the most reasonable place as I am building for off road use but don't think water (water crossings) will be much of an issue .
Thanks Martin
@@douglasbeary7890
there is a vent on the EVAP that I would raise if you are going to do deep water crossings.
can it be mounted horizontally? thinking of dog housing it with my fill tube which might go over the frame. then a flat, millenium falcon shaped lid.
Beautiful work! You could use the old spare tire place for some tools now. Do you keep the spare tire in the luggage area now? I hope you can solve the fueling issue and "parachute" issue.
I haven't carried a spare for years, I have an air compressor and AAA...Lol
I'm not to worried about the fuel fill issue, it's just a little slower than normal.
Bravo! Martin awesome looks factory!
Many thanks!
Great video ! Keep it up 👍🏼 I would love to learn to get hands on on mine. I would appreciate maintenance videos on the wj.
I am working on that and here is a playlist of the maintenance video I have. th-cam.com/video/Uu1d_dy01ec/w-d-xo.html
Another great job !!! Thanks for taking the time to make these videos !!
Glad you like them!
Fantastic job
Thank you very much!
Did a heck of a job there Martin!!! Huge respect
Thank you. I really appreciate that.
Awesome job Martin....
Thanks 👍Dan

Do you have shop in Vegas?
Thank you William, no just a 2 stall garage, hoping for a better one when my lease is up next year.

If your in Vegas I want to hire next time I have a problem with my old jeep xj.
Thank you.
Great video Martin
Glad you enjoyed it
AMAZING!i!i!
This makes me wish I was a better welder...
Much Love
Rick you also do AMAZING WORK,
You helped to make this project...
NOPE, Not Today
Yeah Buddy!i!i!
Thank you, it is one of my favorite mods I've done to this Jeep Grand Cherokee .
GREAT IDEA, GREAT WORK!!
Thank you very much, glad you like it.
Wow, beautiful job, that's my next project 👍👍
Awesome! Thank you!
Awesome job
Thank you! 😊
Great video. Where did you end up putting the spare?
Thank you, I just don't run a spare. I keep a compressor on me kind of similar to a lot of these new cars like the BMW, all they got is a little compressor.
How much do you charge to do that?
The aluminum filler neck and vent, if you install it 180 degrees from how it’s supposed to go in (upside down) trim 2.5-3.5 inches off your filler and vent neck side (not the hoses) you don’t have to cut and run ur lines threw your unibody just saying already went threw this months ago.
Great job Martin. 👍👍👍
Could an electric motor with a foot switch be attached to the bead roller, to give the same speed as hand cranking?.
That was a great idea with the bicycle wheel for support.
Yeah Rick and I talked about that how nice that would be to have some kind of electric motor with a gear reduction drive and a foot pedal.
I'm on my 8th and FINAL WJ and I don't think I'd ever do this as I don't see the point. All of your other mods are very applicable. Spare tire pan provides structural integrity for the frame though doesn't it...?
The spare tire holder does add some structural integrity one of the reasons I didn't eliminate it all together and why I added rolled beads to the steel plate and welded it in 100%
I feel the vehicle is much safer now that the gas tank is tucked up under the vehicle more and doesn't expose it as much as it did before to a rear impact.
It sure looks better than that saggy diaper.
Thank you for watching.
@@martinbuilt I understand the reasoning behind this. Where does the spare go?
How can I source someone with a bead roller in my area? What kind of shop am I looking for because I've been waiting for part two and am definitely gonna be doing this
You can buy a bead roller on Amazon for $200 through Eastwood's page.

Thanks for all the info. I will definitely probably buy one of these. I'm also looking into copying this mod. Awesome info and video as usual Martin!!!
nutserts would be cool for the pump cover
Yeah, I finally got a nutsert tool shortly after I did this conversion.
Sweet... I use them to build control cabinets
You doing a “My Favorite Martian” fade-in there at the beginning?
That series started a year after I was born.
@@martinbuilt ...I’m glad you know about it.
Hi Martin I just went through all the comments and seen that nobody asked where did you put the spare tire? I was thinking about a hitch mount.
LOL... You must not have watched the entire video I mentioned that I can't run a spare tire so all I'm using is a 12 volt air compressor. Much like many of the new cars of today.
@@martinbuilt Sorry I missed that part. Thanks
Fantastic detailed video! Super well done. Subscribed and ‘belled’ so I don’t miss anything from you.
Thank you, Chris, I really appreciate that 🙏
Nice work

WOW AWESOME JOB!

I had a question bout tha tcm swap
My tcm has 3 different port and tha jeep tcm has 1 whole port how will I go bout fixing that

Well not currently at the time I've been busy working on my new shop but hopefully I'm going to retire at the end of 2024 and then I would be willing to do stuff like this for others. Thank you for asking and watching.
Alright cool nice work
Hey Martin! Any chance you know what years and sub models have the heavy duty tank skid?
From what I've seen at my visits at Pic-a-Part, it doesn't matter what year or sub models it's almost hit-and-miss.
I would imagine that all Overlands have a heavy-duty skip plate.
I've actually been thinking about building another one with the light duty skid plate just to reduce the weight of my Jeep.
Since I don't go off-road, that one at all.
@@martinbuilt Thanks for the quick answer! So I'm assuming it's pretty obvious the difference between the heavy one and the light one?
@@TheGersh13 Yes you can really see it in the area where I had cut my skid plate.
I have a problem with grand cherokee 2000 4.7, I changed the cranksensor because it turns off I have to wait for it to cool down and turn it on again, but it still keeps turning it on. would it be the fuel pump?
It is possible, I would get a fuel pressure gauge and check your fuel pressure at the fuel rail, should be somewhere near 50 psi
I changed the fuel pump, it starts running and after it turns off I don't know what to do.
Great work. I won't do that on my diesel WJ 😄
Thank you 😁
No image, video of the finished product from the back???
Seems a lot of watching on how to not actually see what the end result is.
Anyway to do an EVAP delete without having negative consequences to the engine or fuel system?
David Macias you can delete it without any damage to either, it’s going to throw a code though
@@nate4036 thanks for the reply 👍
I want to get rid of it because mine is located right where Martin's is and I take my WJ wheelin. Trying to eliminate the low hanging fruit
David Macias I can’t legally tell you to delete, but here in TN, stuff like that evap
and cats tend to fall off🤷🏻♂️
It looks so beautiful! 😢😍
Thank you, I do appreciate that.
@@martinbuilt yes sir. I've got a 99 Grand Cherokee Limited. I've got some work to do to it. It has the 4.7L V8. Automatic. QuadraTrac 4wd or AWD if you want. What mods would you suggest? How bad does it hurt these motors to overheat?
Trent I’m not jumping in on him, but over heating a 4.7 is almost certain death. The break down of the tappets and dropping rockers is almost guaranteed. It’s very much fixable, but plan for tappets, timing chain, rockers, and head gaskets. I recommend a chain soon after 200k but seen oem go 300k
@@nate4036 it has 175,000 some odd miles on it. Its been overheated at least twice now. Both times were heater core related. I bypassed the heater core and had no more problems with overheating until the radiator sprung a leak. Thankfully I was just working around the house and caught it right away.
Trent Sounds like you’ve been lucky brother. Oil look decent when you drain it still? Just keep up on the maintenance and she’ll live for you.
Amazing job Martin!
I am working on my own WJ off road build. Now I am unable to tuck my own gas tank. What would you say this would cost to have done professionally?
I would charge $1200 plus
Great job!, Martin
I have a 2003 WJ Overland and I have problems with the differential shafts, they are original, they are permanently blocked, dana 35 and dana 44, what do you recommend, change the axles or repair them?
sorry to hear, what do you mean by permanently blocked?
you could replace them for around $200 per axle at Pick-a-Part
Your front axle is a Dana 30 and rear is Dana 44
Hello Martin, I'm having a problem with my '02 grand Cherokee with fuel draining back to the tank after it's parked for a while. I've changed the fuel pump but nothing has changed. What's causing this?
You'll need to replace the fuel filter the fuel pressure regulator is inside the fuel filter which is also a check valve and that's what's causing he will take the train back.
@@martinbuilt I forgot to mention that I changed the fuel filter when I replaced the pump. I have a inline check valve that I'm going to use. Do I need to put it between the tank and filter or between the filter and engine?
@@terryhopson5220 sounds like a defective fuel filter. You could install the check valve anywhere near the fuel filter and pump.
