I settled on the IRO 3" long arm but it wasn't until I switched to Bilsteins that I was finally able to relax knowing my WJ was dialed in where it needed to be. The Doetsch shocks I received with a lift kit felt like doo doo. Very nice, except for the 17 inch wheels. I have a 4" lift and 33s on mine, but with 15" inch wheels. They are great when aired down. And they have a lesser backspace, so my wheels don't look sucked into the wheel wells like that.
You can use a ratchet strap to help adjust the track bar. I used a straight edge at the center of hub to the spring perch to take a measurement. The closest iwas able to adjust was to a 1/16 of an inch. I agree it is a great kit. I went with the triangulation 4 link in the rear instead if the adjustable a arm.

Thanks for your response. Short arm lifts (which IRO does offer) would be a good solution if you do not want to cut off the brackets. For most applications short arms will work just fine. The IRO ones are also adjustable.
I have a '02 WJ, lol I got rid of those Tevis front calipers, Akebono's fit just fine, or you could upgrade to Wilwood calipers, with that, great job on the lift.
is this a V8? quadradrive or quadratrack? I was interested in getting a kit from Rough Country but I read online none of the kits will work with either and I'm sad.
2 years later, curious how you like the ironmans? We bought their all terrain for my wife’s expedition and I plugged every tire at least once. Didn’t last a year. We do drive on gravel but less than a 1/4 mile. Of course, that negated any warranty.
I got the iro rock link for my 06 Jeep LJ. I freaking love it. I did have ironman all country mt like 4 months after they came out. I'll say in Wisconsin they were fantastic in all the terrains and led me to km3 in the future. My downfall with them was they wouldn't balance, it seems that issue was worked out, but minus the balance issue I loved them. I believe it's the old km2 mold.

I wish that someone would make a slightly larger front brake kit for these Jeeps but they don't that I know of. The slotted discs that you put on the front of this Jeep under hard braking I have found cars a little bit of a vibration and I ended up having to install them with the slots pointed like they look like they were on their backwards. I swapped them side to side. You may find that it is a smoother brake pedal that way especially if you get under hard braking. I have a 2003 in gold, I love the color run that one you've got. I don't intend to raise mine because I drive it 99% on the street. I have no plans on off-roading it. I am thinking about putting a bit more engine in it. You will find that if you use the 2007 cylinder heads and use the 2008 cams and switch over the timers that are on your original cams. You will get probably 30 to 40 more horsepower and if you keep the smaller intake manifold that you have on your Jeep you'll probably get a bit more torque. You can get more horsepower if you go to the larger intake but I don't think it gives you more torque I think it gives you a little bit more horsepower and flattens out the torque but the should stay higher with the smaller intake. I have been able to tweak my alignment a couple of times myself whenever I've done any changes. It's actually not that hard to do, and you align it with a couple of measurements and you go out and drive it and you can figure out which parts need to be adjusted to keep your steering wheel straight and your wheels in alignment as best as possible. Go get your front end alignment for a baseline if you wish, I used to change out a lot of steering racks in the '80s when they weren't filtering them and they were chewing themselves up, I would always put in a Chrysler fuel filter into the system that would stop them from wearing out and I always did the front end alignments with a piece of string and by eyeball and the people never complained about their alignment. One person even met me about 66,000 miles later and said they've never had to get the front end line it wasn't burning off the tires it wasn't wearing the tires like it did from the factory, it was great.
Bought my WJ about three years ago with 112,000 miles on it.Now has 133.000.Replaced heater core and a bunch of other goodies and threw a 3 inch supreme suspension in it.This baby rides like a Caddy. Also upgraded the stereo to a double din pioneer with the orig.Infinity sound system.Did you have to do any mods to get the front bumper on?It looks awesome.
Love the WJ look once they’re lifted but I went with the ZJ. Long arm is the best thing you can do on any Jeep IMO it’s great on and off road. Also, man that mk4 is making me miss mine. Mine looked very similar to that one at one point. Silver with black rub strips and red/clear tails 🤘🏼
Looks great! It’s hard to tell from the angle, but are you sure the joints in the lower control arms installed correctly? IIRC they send offset ones which are side specific to reduce the initial amount of angle the joint sees. Love that kit!
Why didi you install your shocks upside down I have always been instructed to install them with the rod down in order to keep mud and other ?debris off of the seal?
I love IRO products. I have there full 3.5" fully adjustable suspension in my ZJ. There parts are so beefy and there customer service is great. My only regret is not getting long arms at least in the front.
Great video. I had the same lift and had terrible bumpsteer and steering geometry issues. How did yours handle once aligned? Did you have to add trackbar drop down brackets or anything later?
This drives surprisingly well for a lifted jeep. I still haven't even gotten it professionally aligned and it does pretty well. No bump steer, but does have a little sway at high speeds
I have the IRO 6.5" long arms front and rear and love it, not impressed with the Doetch tech shocks though. Another good upgrade is to replace the arm bushing on top of the front diff with one of IRO's flex joints. I'm loving the WJ content, keep it up.
How do you like the 6.5"? I've been debating the 4" or 6.5. I have a 2" with 31" tires and I want to be able to chain up and have a little more suspension. I'm worried about power and ride quality. With my 31's the jeep still has really good power and it rides a little stiffer but not bad. I have a set of brand new 33 I could use with the 6.5 but I'm worried it will be more sluggish.
@@jeremyhenning6831 I like it plenty, it rides good and flexes great. I'm on 35s and the power is somewhat diminished but I think a re-gear should fix that.
Is it the cv style (rzeppa) of does it have a u joint? My 2001 came with the u joint so no issues. I thought only some models came with the rzeppa but i could be wrong. But yes those style front shafts don't like the angles produced by a lift kit. But you can convert or look up how others are getting around it.
Very nice Jeep , it turned out great . Looks like a good quality lift but I think we can all agree , it’s a bit overpriced. With a little know how, some fabricating , ordering parts from different sources , this lift kit could be achieved for way cheaper than 3500 dollars , which is the price after taxes . That’s just insane to me . But anyway,, looks awesome , 😎 ,, I’ll be following you to see how it performs
This kit significantly improved the handling of my rig over stock. I would like to get the rear long arms at some point in the future too. I have the quick disconnects on the way now for the front swaybar.
No death wobble. This kit has been solid. I would check control arm length. Make sure bolt hole to bolt hole is the same so you you know axle is straight. Then check caster and adjust upper arm if needed. Then double check trac bar bolts are tight and that the factory mounting hole isn't oblong

@@GuillermoLopez-od5hj it started out with a 4 inch Cross Country but it's been heavily modified in the 5 years I've owned it with better Shocks, Springs, Everything lol So many parts I've replaced to get it to crawl over 2 foot Rocks, few feet of mud and come out alive and the Jeep Still Drivable lol
We sell those Ironman tires a lot where I work. Ironman is a good brand.
Actually took them out today and I thought they worked great. They are noisy on road though
I'm impressed with my IRO long arm kit on my ZJ, you def could've done worse! Looking forward to seeing ur WJ in action!🤘
For now that set up it's only a dream for my WJ. Have you done a review after off-road test?
Enjoyed this…ratchet strap are our friend when it comes to suspension work
Absolutely
Sounds awesome! I did have to trim the bumper but no other modifications
How on earth do you tastefully trip them wheel wells?!? GOTTA see it!
Haha I get more attention with that car then anything else. Its just a tdi daily.
@@MuddyBeards4X4 And it’s a TDi 🤩 I’m jealous
Nice..I have simular setup but we installed flex joints above the axle & coil retanors, bump stops & bilstein shocks with bar pin eleminators
Love the WJ content! I might have to subscribe if you’ve got more coming.
There should be lots more
Looks great! Excited to see a trip
So am I!
That’s a nice kit! Great work!
Do you plan on a winch mount? If so HK Off-road makes a nice mount where you can keep the factory bumper.
I am looking at doing a winch bumper. Not sure if I am going to buy or build
Looks great! It’s hard to tell from the angle, but are you sure the joints in the lower control arms installed correctly? IIRC they send offset ones which are side specific to reduce the initial amount of angle the joint sees. Love that kit!
Oh yes they are in correct. Double checked all that.
Why didi you install your shocks upside down I have always been instructed to install them with the rod down in order to keep mud and other ?debris off of the seal?
Iron Rock off road are they still trading? Looking for kit for WK. Great video
I love IRO products. I have there full 3.5" fully adjustable suspension in my ZJ. There parts are so beefy and there customer service is great. My only regret is not getting long arms at least in the front.
That zj kit looks good too
Brave fella installing that kit in bare feet!😳
Meh it was hot out
Are you going to swap to the akebono brakes and that's a great color combo just different enough to see two colors but still work together
Dude I should have. I am familiar with the difference because I had the wj swap on my xj and used the akebobo calipers.
dig it buddy, good video.
liked and subscribed!
👍
I've been waiting to see the grand cherokee get some attention
This thing will be getting lots of attention here on out
Great video.
No bump steer, but does have a little sway at high speeds
your jeep looks perfect,
Thanks!
What did it cost?
Awesome Jeep
I'm going to buy a 2005 Jeep with a lift already on it.
Which do you like better for offroad? Jeep Wj or the Montero?
I have the iron 6.5 on my WJ . I need the rear upper a arm tho
I have the IRO 6.5" long arms front and rear and love it, not impressed with the Doetch tech shocks though. Another good upgrade is to replace the arm bushing on top of the front diff with one of IRO's flex joints. I'm loving the WJ content, keep it up.
I like the idea of a joint for that upper. Might have to take you advice on that
How do you like the 6.5"? I've been debating the 4" or 6.5. I have a 2" with 31" tires and I want to be able to chain up and have a little more suspension. I'm worried about power and ride quality. With my 31's the jeep still has really good power and it rides a little stiffer but not bad. I have a set of brand new 33 I could use with the 6.5 but I'm worried it will be more sluggish.
@@jeremyhenning6831 I like it plenty, it rides good and flexes great. I'm on 35s and the power is somewhat diminished but I think a re-gear should fix that.
That's sick robbie! Looks great. In total what the final tally on wheels and lift?
Less then 2k. I got the tires on tire buyer. Com. I have no affiliation with them but check them out for good prices on tires
Sweet vw in the background
Did you get the pro version of the lift kit or was it the regular one plus the A-arm upgrade
What about the drive axle angles?
I didn’t finish watch video yet but found mixed break rotors on rear axle (9:03) (passenger and driver side)
Correct me if I’m wrong but are you running coil spacers on top of the four-inch springs?
I got a 2001 last week, I hear my front driveline won't work with a lift. What is your experience with this on yours?
Is it the cv style (rzeppa) of does it have a u joint? My 2001 came with the u joint so no issues. I thought only some models came with the rzeppa but i could be wrong. But yes those style front shafts don't like the angles produced by a lift kit. But you can convert or look up how others are getting around it.
@@MuddyBeards4X4 I haven't been under yet to look. I just read in a forum cv starts in 02. But yours gives me hope. Happy Thanksgiving
Man I need to find a video like this for a WK (2005) build.
Did you have a issue with the stock rear driveshaft being too short ?? I'm fixin to put mine on Today.
I have a 2001 2 wheel drive !! with a 4'' RC lift..
Clean for a 2001. I assume you don't live in the rust belt. My WJ is pretty rusty.
Yep up here in the PNW we don't worry too much about rust
Very nice Jeep , it turned out great . Looks like a good quality lift but I think we can all agree , it’s a bit overpriced. With a little know how, some fabricating , ordering parts from different sources , this lift kit could be achieved for way cheaper than 3500 dollars , which is the price after taxes . That’s just insane to me . But anyway,, looks awesome , 😎 ,, I’ll be following you to see how it performs
When you hear that clunking in the back, its the upper shock mount bolts.😜
Does the driveshaft need to be longer?
This kit significantly improved the handling of my rig over stock. I would like to get the rear long arms at some point in the future too. I have the quick disconnects on the way now for the front swaybar.
Looks nice
That transfer case tail housing is long. Any plans to swap it out? If there is any option (like on TJs)?
I plan on eventually swapping it out for the 231 in my xj. That way I'll have 2wd as well
and you don’t get death wobble?
@muddy beards 4x4 do you experience any death wabble with this lift? If so, what fine tuning fixed it?
No death wobble. This kit has been solid. I would check control arm length. Make sure bolt hole to bolt hole is the same so you you know axle is straight. Then check caster and adjust upper arm if needed. Then double check trac bar bolts are tight and that the factory mounting hole isn't oblong
great video. Thanks.
Looks great
👊
I think I'm the only one that noticed the Volkswagen on kinda rare factory vw BBS RC wheels
Haha yep. Just a little tdi daily
Had a 99 and miss it, put a lot of money in ; no regrets
They are pretty sweet. Super happy with mine
that took a just-another-SUV to cool 4X4 status
My thoughts exactly
Got me a dang ole low mile Grand limited V8 probably be barried in it respect my wj brotheren
I really like this rig
