Hi Rachel, I am almost 70, and my aesthetic is “basic old hippy.” Despite that, and my no-makeup, no-maintenance lifestyle, I find you delightful, inspiring, and wonderful. Please don’t ever stop, you bring me so much joy!

I am also a 70 year old 'basic old hippy', also no makeup, no maintenance lifestyle and I love her videos. They always make me smile and usually laugh too! I agree that she does bring joy to our lives and I hope she continues her channel for a long time!
Hi all! I know this past week has been absolutely heart-breaking regarding the situation in Ukraine, and I wasn't sure if I should even be posting my usual content when so many are being affected. It's something I think doesn't really have a RIGHT answer, but I figured if posting could provide a bit of an escape and entertainment to even a few people who need it, it would be worth it. I'll also be donating this video's adsense earnings to Ukrainian charities. I didn't want to wait for those numbers to roll in, so I've already donated $500 to UNICEF to help Ukrainian children (will donate more accordingly). I sincerely hope my posting "funny" content isn't taken as not caring for the situation, but to hopefully provide some wholesome escapism in an otherwise terrible time. Thank you & I love you all!
Honestly, thank you sm for posting. I’ve got family in Poland, about 80km from the Ukrainian border so the last few days have been ✨stressful✨. Your videos always bring me so much peace 😌
This is the story of my life, and I actually love feeling seen this way! XD Edit: Just waiting for the beautiful new acrylic inks I grabbed at Michael's today to dry on 3 different projects that had needed ink, so I can move on their next steps! Nothing better than new art/crafting supplies!
Oh gosh. Honestly this. I had a very uncomfortable talk with myself just yesterday about this. It's not even the 75$ worth of craft supplies it's the time investment. I have to keep reminding myself that time is valuable and I should only make things I adore because I won't have time for all of it. Clothes thrifting is literally the worst. I love something but I swear everything I find needs some sort of work done to it.
@@piecesofstarlight True, though for me it's less time than energy. I've got some problems with chronic illnesses and pain, and there's only so much I can do before I'm either exhausted, or beyond my physical limits, pain wise, which gets *really* frustrating! Like with this embriodery project that I've been really excited to start, and now that I've started it, I've realised that it's a lot bigger, and going to take a lot more time and stamina than I thought... I've got plenty of time, but I can't do as much in it as I'd like.
Back for a random rewatch, and I don’t know why this was so adorably funny to me; but the way he was purposely staying out of the shot and just leaving her tacos (as if to not interrupt her work) but then just having the “screw it, I want a kiss” attitude made me chuckle 🤭
I need more of this content. Many of the DIYers that I’ve followed from their beginnings, and cherished for their imperfect charm and realism, have kinda gone “commercial.” And while I still enjoy their content, I miss that “just a normal person trying to make things” charm. This video gave me a nice serotonin hit from the nostalgia. 🥰
Would definitely recommend Evan and Katelyn if you aren't already watching them! (sorry if I spelled her name wrong, there are a million ways to spell it) They're a super sweet and wholesome couple that like making really interesting things and experimenting with different materials. Plus they have a cute kitty! Definitely one of my comfort channels, I genuinely love them so much.
definitely! i enjoyed everything about this video and from what i saw i'm convinced this could just be a crafts channel haha absolutely want to see more of this type of content
Its nice to see someone sanding down an ugly paint job to bare wood and staining it. I've seen too many "upcycling" vids where someone takes some gorgeous antique furniture, then absolutely ruins it with a tacky paint job or slapping wallpaper or a collage on it. Sure, its great for cheap modern furniture, but I've seen to many once stunning antiques destroyed.
I don't know if this relevant but your comment reminded me of these DIY videos instagram kept recommending me that were kind of the opposite of what your talking about where someone would take really pretty or interesting wood stained furniture, strip it all off and just leave it naked wood. Then they would style it in kind of a boring beige room.
I love the term "maker". When people find out I'm artistic they're always asking "Oh do you draw?" Well yeeeah... but I paint, I sew, write, I make costumes, set decorations, makeup effects, jewelry, and this, and that, and the other thing. "Crafty" makes it sound like I'm making wreaths or knitting or something. "Maker" encompasses the true essence of a human tornado. People who are good at a ton of things but maybe not an expert at any ONE thing. Well, except maybe expert at hiding the hot glue and the messy stitches lol.
True essence of a human tornado, I think that's a perfect description of Rachel, honestly. And yeah, maker does feel like it fits better than crafter, I think, maybe even if only that the connotations are that crafts are superfluous time wasters and made stuff may be less so? I too do a litlte of everything, perhaps not as well as a professional, but probably better than someone who's never bothered to try it. And if there's one thing sewing, auto body repair, woodwork, beadwork, crocheting, painting, baking, drywalling and armourmaking have in common, it's that making mistakes is how you learn, and learning how to fix or hide the mistakes is definitely worth learning, perhaps the most important part.
"Sometimes, we make decisions. And regardless of the outcome, we have to pretend it's on purpose." Never related to a quote more as I work through DIYing upgrades to a bathroom 🤣
As someone who has a really hard time just relaxing without guilt, "Time you enjoy wasting is not time wasted" may be my new motivational (or demotivational?) motto. Definitely stitching/painting that and hanging it somewhere by my desk 💕
You should use the cabinet as a moss terrarium! The door is perfect for misting it and other than that it’s basically maintenance free. Rachel: “How many big fields have we been to?” *Me not knowing the answer but remembering just how many dramatic field photo shoots Rachel has done…..*
I am now forever on the lookout for little cabinets like that. Putting a window in them opens up a worlds of possibilities from storage, to potion cabinet, to book nookesque dioramas!
From Crafty Rachel to making messes to the Frodo cameo to Nick and Rachel being couple goals, this was just the little slice of wholesome sweetness my heavy heart needed ❤ Thank you, Rachel!
Hi Rachel, I have to be honest - the minute I saw the finished painting in my mind the scene was this: *Rachel sitting with a couple of grandkids* "Grandma Rachel where did you get this?" "I painted it." "What did you paint it from?" "That's the field your Grandpa and I walked through to get to the restaurant on our honeymoon." In other words, you just painted an heirloom. Is it fabulously expensive? No. But it is a piece of your family history that deserves to be cherished and shared with the kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.
“The time you enjoy wasting, is not wasted time” John Lennon . (*Me searching the quote after she tried to say it) I love those crafts, thank you Rachel! Every time I watch those kind of videos you make, it gives me the inspiration and energy to do crafts I always wanted to do when I feel too lazy to do it!
These all turned out amazing! Also, I don’t know why but I loved the taco delivery bit 🤣 something about your little “six stars” added on made me smile.
The Terrarium turned out really well. Do you have anything left of your Bridal bouquet, as that would display really well in the cabinet. Or over the next year collect leaves from all four seasons and gradually add them to the terrarium. Or as you seem to love Autumnal colours, next autumn collect from the plants around you and display them all year long. It was great to have a few minutes watching 'normal' things, rather than the situation that is unravelling in Ukraine.
The little cabinet turned out really cute. Great idea Rachel! And you did a really nice job of painting from your photo. It was fun to see what you come up with. Thanks for the smiles along the way too ;)
With paint stripper, if you put tinfoil over it and leave it overnight, then that would soften the paint nicer in you've got multiple layers. The tinfoil prevents the paint stripper from drying out/evaporating meaning it can sit on the paint longer
Can we all just agree that Rachel's outfit is absolutely stellar? I want that skirt with the side buttons. Also, the see-through fern cabinet thingy is my favorite.
I’m a guy who hasn’t been clothes shopping in about a decade but I legit clicked on the video because I read the title and saw her outfit. Thinking “I’ll like this person”
I would love to see a video about the clothes you've made before, whether you wear them anymore or not, how they've held up, and your thoughts on them now that you and your skills have grown.
You’ve inspired me! My sister’s husband is allergic to everything green, so a little enclosed terrarium would be a lovely idea! Thanks, Rachel! Love watching your content, and I so appreciate seeing your trial and error - makes me believe I can do anything, too!
Thank you for this video, Rachel! I think it's important to keep a certain feeling of normalcy when the world goes to shit. It doesn't mean we are insensitive. 💙💛
Question about Nick, if that's okay - is he a woodworker-type person, or a handyman? You bring him in as the big-time backup for a bunch of larger projects, and I'm curious where he learned it all!
This set up is a perfect filming location! I know barns can get hot in the summer and cold in winter but with the chalkboard and decor I felt like it was a school house teacher! Also all the items look great!! Like they work all together in one space or separately!
I’m most impressed with the cabinet thingy. I didn’t really see it turning into that anthropology greenhouse and then wow! 😲 Also appreciate your heart for Ukraine and for not leaving it unmentioned! ❤️
Definitely wholesome escapism amidst all that’s going on. You give me hope I can do these crafts. I can’t. I would have given up the moment I got home from the thrift store😆. I’m living vicariously through you. Keep ‘em coming☺️

honestly this cheered me up a lot. i would love to see more content like this. i would totally buy a little cabinet like that, its so cute.. thanks for the fun content. there are scary times here in europe. but i needed to distract myself and this made me feel a bit better.
Rachel and Nick's relationship looks so sweet. I thought it was super cute the way he helped with her project, and when she said "Ooh 6 stars!" when they kissed.
Hello, vintage schoolmarm!Rachel. Loving the look. And then you get +5 teacher points for mentioning diction. Thank you for posting. Any break from the horrors of reality is greatly appreciated. Always exciting to watch people getting crafty. I have ideas and get things and then suffer crippling anxiety about what to do or my lack of skill to pull it off if I *can* make a decision, and so do nothing but clutter my house. Still nice to watch other people pull it off though. Lovely hit of Frodo; much needed. So cute. Curious: did you guys pick a name for the property yet?
I love the idea of painting a landscape from a special memory! Yours turned out so beautifully, and you’ve definitely inspired me. I will absolutely be doing this.
I'm betting that if the 'ominous sheep' had been portrayed in that painting, Nick would have guessed it right off. Thanks for the fun and smiles. Take care.
As a teenager, I stripped all the paint from the woodwork in my bedroom. I was going for a natural wood look. I finished it all after sanding and staining with polyurethane. Unfortunately, the wood turned out to be a poor-quality wood, designed to be painted, so it didn't look great. Bless my mom for her support of my doing this project. After I left home for college, she redecorated my room painting all that woodwork again. I love your updated thrifted items!
Rachel, here's a thought on the terrarium. A small butterfly or a couple of ladybugs, etc. to really set the scen e. With the foliage you already have in there, anyt insect variety would work and give it that natural uality you may be looking for. good luck. Enjoyed your process. And you're right--time spent in creation is never time wasted. :D
That's what I thought too The Closet Historian displays the bug jewelry she's made th-cam.com/video/xJsicd2CqjI/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=TheClosetHistorian
Your painting is so good! I was not expecting much because the pic you chose was a lot of monotone green which is so hard to paint, but your painting was very pretty! Definitely the spirit of the image with more visual interest. Wish I had a drop of that talent lol
That thrift up terrarium idea is boss! My friend’s birthday is next month and she does love plants. I think I’ll try to make a version of that ✨but make it hippie hillbilly✨ so it fits her aesthetic. Thanks Rachel you’re coming through with birthday ideas! Stay epic Troll floor Queen!
Great video. Made me smile all the way. My idea for your little "cabinet" would be to change the contents out seasonally, or with the holidays. Fall leaves would look great in it. And then winter greenery with a few holly berries. What ever you choose, it will be cute. Love your little painting as well. I love small paintings as well. I have even painted a lighthouse scene on a sand dollar. Have a great week!!!
When I saw that photo of your honeymoon I thought: *That scenery looks like Somerset* When I searched and found out it was in my county and you enjoyed it so much it made me unequivocally happy😊
As someone who’s felt like I’m spiraling a lot lately it’s so nice to have your videos, and I hope you make them as long as you’re able to and comfortable to. I definitely feel a happy escape in your videos, it’s what has kept me around since (almost) the beginning of your channel. You bring joy to so many people, and we’re all happily watching. ☺️❤️
Thank you for posting today, Rachel 💜 with everything that's going on its nice to have this little corner of peace and goodness. Also I love this concept of crafting thrift store finds. Would totally be down to see more of this type of video in the future!
DUUUUDE!!!! I'm just getting into the upcycling process of decorating my new home! I LOOOVE paint stripper - I literally wanted to remove the paint from EVERYTHING IN MY SIGHT after the first time I used it
Can I just say, the commitment to your first Tim Burton-esk outfit is emasculated. I was watching you work with those sleeves and thinking how I would have had to change 2 minutes in. I applaud you.
I actually really liked this video and would love to see more of Rachel crafting it up in her barn every once in a while! It's some fun variety but still definitely goes with the overall theme of her content.
I would totally watch more of these as a series!! You said it yourself, you are most definitely a Maker, and not just clothing!! Love that cool little mini rotary cutter thing!! I need one, super handy! :)
Love this! Back in the 90's, this was my main hobby. It was fun to hunt for items and it was inexpensive. I loved taking something old and tired and remaking it into something useful! 👍

Hey doll! I've been watching your channel for years, and let me say, I've loved all of them. You do awesome work and I'm so dang proud of you. Loved it and your crafts!
Sympathy to Nick. I am also one of "those." It was comforting to find out that thinking cilantro tastes like soap is actually genetic. Because honestly I just thought everyone who liked cilantro enjoyed having soap in their food for some reason :D
If you're ever trying to explain that phenomenon to someone who doesn't find cilantro tastes like soap, suggest they try eating cilantro flowers. I love cilantro, but cilantro flowers DO taste like soap and gave me an appreciation for those of you who can't stand it.

From Crafty Rachel to making messes to the Frodo cameo to Nick and Rachel being couple goals, this was just the little slice of wholesome sweetness my heavy heart needed ❤ Thank you, Rachel!
Clothes? Impeccable.
Transformations? Sensational.
Rachel? Maksy.
Hi Rachel, I have to be honest - the minute I saw the finished painting in my mind the scene was this: *Rachel sitting with a couple of grandkids* "Grandma Rachel where did you get this?" "I painted it." "What did you paint it from?" "That's the field your Grandpa and I walked through to get to the restaurant on our honeymoon."
In other words, you just painted an heirloom. Is it fabulously expensive? No. But it is a piece of your family history that deserves to be cherished and shared with the kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.
Why is no one talking about her painting???? IT'S SO GOOD
“The time you enjoy wasting, is not wasted time” John Lennon . (*Me searching the quote after she tried to say it)
I love those crafts, thank you Rachel!
That's because kids need to see mom and dad kiss ❤🥰
And the Baja Blast…Omg I love Baja Blast
The Terrarium turned out really well. Do you have anything left of your Bridal bouquet, as that would display really well in the cabinet. Or over the next year collect leaves from all four seasons and gradually add them to the terrarium. Or as you seem to love Autumnal colours, next autumn collect from the plants around you and display them all year long. It was great to have a few minutes watching 'normal' things, rather than the situation that is unravelling in Ukraine.
"time you enjoy wasting
is not... time???
is not...
forget it"
-Rachel 2022
The thing is, I totally get what she means.
You've just united two "Inside Out" 's islands of mine: Rachel's humor + Upcycling. This could definitely be a series!
The fact that she didn't tape or cover the frame at all before painting the new picture in there is STRESSING ME OUT 😆
The little cabinet turned out really cute.
Oooooooh this tip just saved me a lot of time. Thanks!
Can we all just agree that Rachel's outfit is absolutely stellar? I want that skirt with the side buttons. Also, the see-through fern cabinet thingy is my favorite.
Absolutely. She also has a stunning resemblance to Gina Davis.
That is a much better way than I put it. I just say "The nature things are trying to kill me"....I could be the drama though.
Try watching serpa designs if you want good terrarium advice and how to.
Thank you for this video, Rachel! I think it's important to keep a certain feeling of normalcy when the world goes to shit. It doesn't mean we are insensitive. 💙💛
Giving Anne as a school teacher vibes in this video. 🖤
Question about Nick, if that's okay - is he a woodworker-type person, or a handyman? You bring him in as the big-time backup for a bunch of larger projects, and I'm curious where he learned it all!
I was wondering if you kisses all her delivery people or is it just Nick
Nick does woodworking. Don't know where he learned it though. To see what Nick did in their old house Rachel did a house tour of their old place.
Check out the tour of their old house. It shows a few things that Nick made to the house.
This set up is a perfect filming location! I know barns can get hot in the summer and cold in winter but with the chalkboard and decor I felt like it was a school house teacher!
Also all the items look great!! Like they work all together in one space or separately!
The best thing about getting a new bigger house is that there's so much room for random little decorations! The more you add the cozier it feels!
I’m most impressed with the cabinet thingy. I didn’t really see it turning into that anthropology greenhouse and then wow! 😲
Also appreciate your heart for Ukraine and for not leaving it unmentioned! ❤️
Definitely wholesome escapism amidst all that’s going on. You give me hope I can do these crafts. I can’t. I would have given up the moment I got home from the thrift store😆. I’m living vicariously through you. Keep ‘em coming☺️
You can do it! Practice makes perfect!
Me: *not understanding how she was explaining the box and thought only the door was going to be see through.
Rachel: *front and back are see through and looking fancy
Me, as Owen Wilson as I possibly can: wow
Edit: the painting is absolutely beautiful
I love this comment. "Owen Wilson Wow" is right!
Starting of strong with a Harry Potter reference in the beginning *chefs kiss* love the video! You pulled me over to the earth-toned clothes club 🍂🍁 and the decor is soo cute!! Love all your videos as they help me through my rough patches sooo much, just with that little extra serotonin ✨
The barn seems like a really great filming space, and the DIY projects were super fun to see.
I love Rachel's planned-year-in-advance content, it feels like your favorite art teacher excitedly going through the lesson plan.
thank you for donating to ukraine! the situation is awful and i don't have much i can do to help, so i really appreciate being able to help even just a tiny bit this way
honestly this cheered me up a lot. i would love to see more content like this. i would totally buy a little cabinet like that, its so cute.. thanks for the fun content. there are scary times here in europe. but i needed to distract myself and this made me feel a bit better.
As someone who just moved, the Rachel energy was a welcome break :) Also, that cupboard is something my mom would adore.
Rachel and Nick's relationship looks so sweet. I thought it was super cute the way he helped with her project, and when she said "Ooh 6 stars!" when they kissed.
Just remember, Rachel: there are no mistakes. Only happy little accidents.
Yup, cuz she Ross'd that painting with DIYer ooakness Rachel sass ... 20:41 🖌️🎨 22:09 🌻
I love that quote so much, I'm tempted to have it tattooed on my arm, lol.
Preferably in latin 😅
It just never fails to make me smile.
Nulla errata, modo beatus accidentia.

Thank you 👍😅💯
Hello, vintage schoolmarm!Rachel.
Rachel staining the cabinet AFTER she put in the acrylic and also not taping it off, is peak chaotic Maksy energy and I am here for it.
I’m in the ER right now and this video is keeping me sane. It’s all so cute and you make it look fun and easy. Even the hard part.
PS. My nurse says your outfit is very cute. (The jumper in the painting portion.)
I soooo love how you look like an oldtimey schoolteacher in the barn, especially with the chalkboard! This content just makes me happy
I'm betting that if the 'ominous sheep' had been portrayed in that painting, Nick would have guessed it right off. Thanks for the fun and smiles. Take care.
Omg you just gave me the idea to paint that photo of "sheep by night". You know, the one with sheep in a dark field and only their eyes glowing! Lol.
Only Rachel could make a video with an entire section only with sanding actually funny and entertaining!! Loving the endeavor so far!
The little cabinet and the painting came out so cool😯.
Yes, bugs! But I was thinking big hairy victorian moths 🤣.
@@aksez2u Or lovely green luna moths maybe
That's what I thought too The Closet Historian displays the bug jewelry she's made th-cam.com/video/xJsicd2CqjI/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=TheClosetHistorian
I don't like bugs.
Your painting is so good! I was not expecting much because the pic you chose was a lot of monotone green which is so hard to paint, but your painting was very pretty! Definitely the spirit of the image with more visual interest. Wish I had a drop of that talent lol
The painting feels so darling and special, Rachel, and the frame restoration turned out lovely. I think you accidentally just made a family heirloom!
I loved the painting too, but the horse was so great as well...I don't know, I would've bought a new canvas if I were her.
The greenhouse cabinet would be such a cute way to display wedding flowers or a prom corsage/other sentimental flowers!
That landscape is stunning. I love the color blocking and the white sky. Beautiful
Xpln hippie/hillbilly?
You look very 'Anne of Avonlea teaching' in the barn setup. I love it.
I read ALL the Anne of Green Gables books!
I was thinking that as well!
Yes! That's a brilliant description!
That’s a great idea for small seasonal decor!
When I saw that photo of your honeymoon I thought:
*That scenery looks like Somerset*
When I searched and found out it was in my county and you enjoyed it so much it made me unequivocally happy😊
painting a happy memory while it rains sounds like the perfect kind of peaceful day 🥺😭💕
As someone who’s felt like I’m spiraling a lot lately it’s so nice to have your videos, and I hope you make them as long as you’re able to and comfortable to.
I LOOOVE paint stripper - I literally wanted to remove the paint from EVERYTHING IN MY SIGHT after the first time I used it
hahahaha!!! ::)
Please use a respirator! Lung cancer is no joke
Me too, my favorite is the Citri-Strip brand. It’s not as toxic and works better than anything else I tired.
@@HosCreates thank you. keep speaking up. we all need warnings, at times.
Big fan started watching back when you used to make how to style modern clothes vintage, and stayed for pop culture references of my childhood 😄
The cabinet looks lovely! And Bob Ross definitely sent Rachel some inspiration - she ended up painting a lot of tree friends XD
Absolutely adore the Little House on the Prairie school teacher with Dunkies vibe. The vibes are just -chef kiss- immaculate
I love it when thrift art becomes something new.
I love how all of these turned out! The terrarium cabinet is definitely my favorite. Such a fun video!
I love the wholesome Nick bits. I need more of this glorious ship. Like…make him a vintage cosplay like you did Frodo or something. I don’t know. I love them together.
I too am almost 70, and I wouldn’t miss Rachel for anything in the world. Creative, smart, brave, authentic. She got me through two lockdowns during this beastly pandemic.
"So many start with not my usual content, it's normal for Rachel to be random and multifaceted, which I would think would attract more people not less!" I find them all interesting. I try to share but not a social person to help her towards 1 mil subscribers
lmao Nick's comeback about the number of fields you visit had me dyin! He had a pretty good point. Ya really seem to like yer fields! Also, really love the over all crafting vibe, as well as that first outfit! brave of you to craft in such cute clothes. I would have destroyed them.
Hey doll! I've been watching your channel for years, and let me say, I've loved all of them. No need to be so hard on yourself, you have a solid community of people who love you and your content, and seeing a fellow maker do the very things to thrifted items that I aspire to in the future, makes me absolutely delighted.
@@bunhelsingslegacy3549 to me I couldn't figure out if I liked it or if it was just kind of too green tasting for my pallet. I prefer parsley.
@@bunhelsingslegacy3549 That's good to know, thank you!
@@bookmouse2719 LOL whereas I can't stand fresh parsley :)
Same. Tastes like soap!
I'm loving the Judy Garland Meet me in St. Louise look you are giving me. One of my top favorite musical movies of all time. Thank you for all your creativity and sharing it with the rest of us.
Beat me to it!
I VERY much would like this to become a series. It perfectly combines my love of making things and my love of spending as little money as possible.
