Glad to see you don't seem to be letting all the doom and gloom bring you down. Infectious. I know you do costuming but if you haven't seen it by now (I know, it is only I who apparently live under the rock by myself lol) FAKE BAKES are the answer if you love the faux foods. Some of these gals on here make this stuff look ridiculously realistic. Cassie Smallwood is one of my faves. Every time she makes brownies and hotdogs I have to go make them for real lol. Maybe some faux gingerbread cookies for the bag! Happy Holidays though.....
A tip for getting the caulking to stick!!! Either put a line of caulking down the path you are wanting to utilize the forbidden icing or use your finger to smoosh some caulking down that path, for the caulking to stick to itself along that path since it won't have any real grip on the fabric!
Very much this - I work with caulk both in my job and for crafts and you gotta give it a base to stick to. 2 other suggestions: 1- unless you need to be able to paint it afterwards use 100% silicone caulk. Sturdier, more elastic and stickier. 2- do your smoosh layer with clear silicone. It'll still show a bit on the fabric but be much less obvious if your finishing layer doesn't completely cover it.
I, a cashier, fully understand Rachel. That's why my version of Christmas is black and white with metal versions of christmas carols. No, literally my christmas tree is black with white decorations 🖤🤘🎅

I can just now voluntarily listen to Christmas music on occasion, but don’t you DARE get me with a jump scare of Mariah Carey when I’m not prepared. 😂

I would've formed the clay pieces around their little hooks (also cuts out the need to drill and glue them in after). You can then hold the hooks while painting too.
Wise words to live by: “let’s get a little treat, because otherwise what’s the point of running errands?” 😂❤ And YES to the ‘personalizing EVERYTHING ‘ i own(ed)!
I add a fair amount of acrylic paint to the wall spackle when I use it as faux frosting! I make a lot of mixed media paintings and storage boxes that are "frosted". That wall spackle is really dry and has trouble to sticking to most things, and like I can't put faux sprinkles on it either unless I add a bunch of paint to make it more wet, because they just bounce off!
It turned out great! I just started making spackle cakes and the reason it wouldn’t come out creamy, like real buttercream, was because you didn’t thin it out with paint, white or whatever color you want. You add as much as you want to get the desired color, if you are coloring it or this case to smooth it out. That would’ve given you more control out of the bag.😊
I kind of fell out of love with Christmas a few years ago, but then married a man who LOVES Christmas and had two littles with him. Plus, we bought a house in a wooded area and we can just go into our backyard and chop down a tree ❤ So now, I love Christmas again lol It's fun trying to make it simple yet memorable.
Pastry chef here who LOVES your channel! If you ever find it in your heart to use piping tips again, a top tip is to clean the tip once she starts getting gunky. It'll make the whole process more enjoyable and even more delicious looking! 🤩❤️ You did an amazing job, though! Lord knows I'm not nowhere near this crafty, and I'd lose every single finger attempting anything you do. 😂
When I was in the 4th grade back in the 1960s, I distinctly remember being very much into Mod fashion and how my girlfriends and I would make book covers out of brown paper bags that we would then decorate profusely using Flair markers with drawings of models in miniskirts surrounded by things like paisley designs and popular slang sayings of the time. It was great fun.😊
The funniest thing about June's Journey to me has always been that she's lookin real cheery for someone who's sister just got murdered. Just a big ol' smile. tbh my suspect list starts there
6:20 I also found a somewhat hidden pocket in my thrift bag and inside was a broken wrist watch and an old receipt. just for fun we tried calling the store to see if they could track down when this receipt was made, which they could and did (because they were also curious) turns out it had been there for three years. so that was fun!
The urge to express, or define who I am is extremely high. It almost seems like everything I do is trying to find out and shape and then relate who I am. As we are ever changing and evolving it is also never ending. Maybe this instinct is especially prominent in creatives and artists, since their art is mostly a form of relating themselves and who they are to the world, right? "Customizing" everything around me is a must. It keeps me sane and makes me happy. I have no idea why the urge is so strong, but it definitely is and always has been since I can remember. 😊 It also brings me immense joy to percieve other's "customizations" and their outward rendering of themselves. It feels to me like this exchange is the meaning and drive behind all art. To communicate who we are and how we relate to the world and everything in it.
🗣️Hello fellow CREATIVE. You put this so well‼️🤌🏾🤌🏾🤌🏾. I just finished writing this whole dissertation talking about the creativity and sharing with other creatives also so we're all in the same universe. It's a pleasure reading your story; I would love to see what you've created! I am subscribed to so many creatives online and they're doing art that I don't do that is so gorgeous to me. I delight in their process and I actually tear up when I see the finalization. This is so empowering to see that we too, have our touch of God's magic and we can create something that is so unique and so beautiful on its own. There's no comparisons. It's all Good! I wish there was a way that we could put together a group so that we could see what everyone does and everyone is creating their own things at the same time even if it's all online and they're trading ideas. These type of creative think tanks are so enrichening. It's like being in an adult kindergarten again.😊 I really truly believe that being in an atmosphere with other creatives creates a brand new organism it is TRUE SYNTHESIS. ✨
Heck yes on the need to personalize! A cheap bookcase in college that I painted a quote about humans' need to tell stories on. Making my own custom witch accessories to go with a ren faire witch dress. Custom modifying frames to compliment the art inside. Adding creative touches to things I didn't make gives me LIFE.
The last year i worked retail over the holidays was the year Rosie O'Donnell and Elmo made a christmas album. I don't think it's a coincidence that i never worked retail again after listening to that on repeat for 6 weeks.

So Cute!!! When I was young would write Marion The Great on Everything, And my husband George, was doing the same ,writing George The Great everywhere!!!😂😂😂
Omg yes, i personalized my agendas (i was born in 1985, high school in 1999/2000) every year was different, once i used duct tape, abstract painted it and put a nine inch nails patch on it, another year i used label tags (for floppy disk 😂😂[basically anything i could find around the house as a teen) created a design, colored then, and used a tool sticker as my centerpiece. I also use to HANDSEW the edges of my paperbag book coverings to look like the stitching in the binding of a composition book because i was OBSESSED with the serial killers journals from se7en. And i had a pen pal in texas i would write too, she was an artist and would draw all over the envolopes, i was a mediocre artist, but would hand stitch the edges and make it look creepy and gorey... i wonder what the mail people thought 😂😂😂😂 ahhh memories.
Video idea 15:25 make “back to school” supplies (or just stationary) that is a throwback to when you used to personalize all your stuff! Junk journaling is in now I feel like they go hand in hand!
If the licorice strings you used for your strap stretch out with use or break... you could make a strap out of fabric (or paint the old strap red) and then wrap/glue the lanyard string around it to create the spiral-y licorice texture. I love the final product you came up with though! It's so dang cute.
Interesting point about customization. I always had the desire to do it, but I had so much anxiety about whether or not it would turn out, or what if I didn't like it, it would ruined, so I never did anything. Additionally I won't put stickers on my laptop, car, or water bottle, because what if I really like that sticker, and then I can't get it off the item, or I have to get rid of it, or lose it. So, yeah, I don't customize anything
Next time you'r about to "frost" something, try to mix woodglue & a little whater, paint it on where the "frosting" will be. Let it dry up somewhat (& get down into the fabric) Then frost away! 😀
I love all the "frosting" suggestions in the comments. I petition that whenever Rachel needs a simpler video, she makes one about trying out and comparing these suggestions to find the perfect mock frosting. I can already see the thumbnail: Apron an lab safety goggles on, giant spritz cookie thing in hand and surrounded by all the frosting test swatches
I was also a personaliser. From my exercise books to my homework diary covered in stickers and printed contact. Even my text books were marked out as uniquely mine. We were supposed to use the pre-printed school diary with the school rules in the back but I wasn’t giving up my rock magazine week-per-view for anything.
You know how bakers will frost cakes with a crumb layer first? I think applying that to the spackle would have worked well here. Smear on a layer to make sure you have coverage where you want it and pipe your design onto that because it'll stick better. Also, would have stuck the lil guys on skewers to help dry more evenly, make it easier to paint, and then you'll already have the hole. What if the peppermint was perforated and seen on like a button? I would not have had the idea to do this in the first place and I think it's super cute! Thanks for these videos, they make me resent Christmas a little less too (and yeah, it's 100% working in customer service that made me seeth; also, that Wham song is stupid)
Yep, or just add a couple more of the same braids she already did. Depends how much weight she intends to carry in the bag as to how thick a strap is needed.
Old petson: "Where'd you get that ref hair?" Rachel: "From a box!" I just had my tea come out my nose 😂😂😂 As someone who is married to a ginger, I can honestly say everyone loves the red hair.😉😊
I’ve used the lightweight spackle to make fake frosted cakes and it’s so much fun! You can mix water based acrylic paint with it and it works for the aesthetic so well!!
Bless your try-hardest crafty heart. It certainly is something, I'm just not sure what. At least you had fun, and so too did I, watching you make... um... it.😂❤
@officialhambly made a dress with those specific pipings not too long ago. She had a recipe of what she used and it adhered to the fabric pretty well. I would check her out if you want a better material to use than caulk! PS I love your videos, thank you for being a cozy corner of the internet!💜
This is a season designed to be experienced through treats. I made 2, hour long trips to my parents this past month just to make Christmas cookies on my one day off.
I share your very specific Christmas aesthetic (aka the Nutcracker meets woodland creatures lol) so this is literally the perfect Christmas project. I'm obsessed!! (Especially the tiny candy charms!!)
Covered my high school books and folder with cut outs from Australian Dolly magazine circa 1980!!!! Yes to individualism. Loved the bag (with the honeycomb removed)
I bought a hutch cabinet at an estate sale for $45. After having it for 3 or so years I found a receipt tucked behind one of the drawers. It’s a handwritten receipt from when the formers owners had gas delivered to their home for their heating system IN THE 90s! This receipt is older than me (I turned 30 this year)!!!!!
Makers gotta make! Everything I owned growing up was personalized. We just want the world to be beautiful and we have learned how to make it happen with our skills!
Honestly I like how the faint remnants of the honeycomb pattern looks a lot more, I think it looks more like shingles because the lines are thinner from afar it gives the effect, really nicely, like it looks like shingles after snowfall
Yes, Rachel! I customized EVERYTHING IN HIGH SCHOOL!! Especially my bags and clothing. I took stoped soccer Sox and cut them into cool sleeves or arm warmer things.
I still use the backpack from high school that I had all my friends drawn on. And the shoes from college that I had new friends drawn all over. Both came out cute
I am ABSOLUTELY the personalizing type. My poor boyfriend is such a good sport I have to make things my own. My books, my truck, my trailer… it’s all my style no matter what. Fortunately he enjoys it
I also definitely personalized the cover of everything I own. What a day, when I graduated from scotch tape to laminating sheets to protect my agenda cover creations!
Here's some piping tips so it goes a little smoother next time you try this! 1. Fill the bag more than you think you'll need, but don't overfill, maybe 2/3 full 2. Make a "break" towards the tip and hold that with your dominant hand 3. Hold the bag closed with your non dominant hand This way, you have two "sections" in the bag. The tip where you apply the pressure, and the end where you'll essentially refill the tip. Hope this helps!!! (and that I explained it well 😂 I'm a professional baker so this is second nature to me so I forget that not everyone knows this stuff)
Expressing self: I love seasons and holidays. I have to have in many forms something representing the current holiday and season. Blankets, purses, food, decorations, clothes, and the list will never end.
Girl SAME. I had “express yourself” spelled out in sticker letters on my bedroom wall AND engraved on the back of my iPod touch. Everything I owned communicated things about myself and I needed to be in control of what it was saying!!
I made my own collage covers for all of my folders and agendas growing up (with clippings from magazines and probably also stuff I printed out from tumblr). But I’m totally the same, I’ve always had to customize EVERYTHING. I say this as I’m using my phone with a clear phone case so I could put cute ephemera in there. Some things never change
Omg for painting teeny weeny things you can get knobs or adjustable furniture feet. Put some sticky tack on it and stick your Itty bitty thing to it. Basically gives you a handle and let's you paint everything but the bottom. Also, amazing as always!
14:30 I tried so hard to be like the cool kids and personalize my stuff, but I'm just not good at it 😭. I don't have the innate ability to cut out and aesthetically place random things or doodles on spirals or bags. I turned out to be an excellent knitter though, so maybe I was just destined to follow directions and make colorful panels of fabric lol
Yes!!!! All through high school I printed out pictures and taped them to my notebooks…each subject was a different fandom…one had Pirates of the Caribbean Revenge of the Sith Anakin Narnia….. It was fun 😊

Yep, or just add a couple more of the same braids she already did. Depends how much weight she intends to carry in the bag as to how thick a strap is needed.
Old petson: "Where'd you get that ref hair?"
Rachel: "From a box!"
I just had my tea come out my nose 😂😂😂 As someone who is married to a ginger, I can honestly say everyone loves the red hair.😉😊
The little design stage Rachel wearing a chef's hat and whites was SO cute!
I’ve used the lightweight spackle to make fake frosted cakes and it’s so much fun!
You can mix water based acrylic paint with it and it works for the aesthetic so well!!
Bless your try-hardest crafty heart. It certainly is something, I'm just not sure what.
At least you had fun, and so too did I, watching you make... um... it.😂❤
That's the spirit 😅
The strap could have been made using some of that shiny red twisty rope that is used to make tassels and curtain ties!!! Rachelllllllll
13:44 I literally spilled my coffee laughing bc I didn’t expect that😂
Rachel's videos give me life! Thank You! ❤❤❤
Tip: leather paint might have made this project a little easier! Idk if the spackle would adhere to the bare leather any better though.
I share your very specific Christmas aesthetic (aka the Nutcracker meets woodland creatures lol) so this is literally the perfect Christmas project. I'm obsessed!! (Especially the tiny candy charms!!)
I love the end product, with the chipped off honeycomb pattern. It looks like gingerbread that’s had the icing eaten off❤
Covered my high school books and folder with cut outs from Australian Dolly magazine circa 1980!!!! Yes to individualism. Loved the bag (with the honeycomb removed)
I love the top/corset top you’re wearing sooo much I want one so bad!! It’s so cute, I absolutely love it 0:05
Right??? It's got gingerbread vibes and I desire it
I paint a lot of teeny-weeny things.
Sticking them down with double sided tape often works.
Or drill a small hole and hold it on a piece of wire.
Your vest/bodice!!!
Re:personalization. I always have too. I 100% think it’s because you’re an artist.
I am ABSOLUTELY the personalizing type. My poor boyfriend is such a good sport I have to make things my own. My books, my truck, my trailer… it’s all my style no matter what. Fortunately he enjoys it
How many times did I rewatch the "hallelujah" bit? Yes.
I also definitely personalized the cover of everything I own. What a day, when I graduated from scotch tape to laminating sheets to protect my agenda cover creations!
Well, it presents much better than it looked during the create. It turned out pretty cute.
Here's some piping tips so it goes a little smoother next time you try this!
1. Fill the bag more than you think you'll need, but don't overfill, maybe 2/3 full
2. Make a "break" towards the tip and hold that with your dominant hand
3. Hold the bag closed with your non dominant hand
This way, you have two "sections" in the bag. The tip where you apply the pressure, and the end where you'll essentially refill the tip.
Hope this helps!!! (and that I explained it well 😂 I'm a professional baker so this is second nature to me so I forget that not everyone knows this stuff)
Gingerbread Bag - what can be more sweet, adorable & Christmas-appropriate?
Expressing self: I love seasons and holidays. I have to have in many forms something representing the current holiday and season. Blankets, purses, food, decorations, clothes, and the list will never end.
The concept is there, the execution is cuestionable
But the chocolate looks so yummy
It's always a good day when Rachel posts 😌
Girl SAME. I had “express yourself” spelled out in sticker letters on my bedroom wall AND engraved on the back of my iPod touch. Everything I owned communicated things about myself and I needed to be in control of what it was saying!!
I like the "peeled off" version! It makes it look more realistic! Good job!
Just one step closer to that adorable cottage in the woods!
This is so cute! Really needed some cozy Rachel content this morning 💚🎄
Thank you. It's so fun to watch what you're up to
I made my own collage covers for all of my folders and agendas growing up (with clippings from magazines and probably also stuff I printed out from tumblr). But I’m totally the same, I’ve always had to customize EVERYTHING. I say this as I’m using my phone with a clear phone case so I could put cute ephemera in there. Some things never change
For the caulk look up Decoden, you "whip" the caulk into "frosting" and its much more manageable. People make phone cases/boxes that look like cake!
I love a biscuit themed sewing tin ❤
As a mother to two red heads, I can confirm they get a lot of attention! ❤
Love this project! Once again blown away by your creativity!! ✨
Yay, I got notified right away! This is going to be an awesome video 😍
I am the same way! I have to express myself and make things feel more like me if they're to be in my vicinity
I know there's a bag involved.. but I am enthralled by your epic Mummy shirt. (the bag is fantastic, too ;) )
Yes!!!! All through high school I printed out pictures and taped them to my notebooks…each subject was a different fandom…one had
Pirates of the Caribbean
Revenge of the Sith Anakin
Narnia…..
It was fun 😊
This is so cute! I also love gingerbread as christmas decor!
