      This is the one that I couldn't believe wasn't at least a special mention! I also have 2 of them! Theres also the 1990 football card of Brian Bosworth where the team name was different than all the others in the set? And I can't remember the players name at this moment, (edited 1-4-22 :Fred Marion was the players name) but there was a "dong card" in football too where it was actually the end of his belt flapping out in the picture...lmao

    I pulled a Frank Thomas NNOF from a mystery pack at my LCS in 91 or 92... The LCS owner was a big ERR collector and he occasionally put ERR cards in his mystery packs along with a copy of the corrected card...
    I traded it for an Eric Lindros RC (hockey). I was 12 and didn’t know what I had at the time...I’m 41 now and it still hurts lol.

    Buddy, this was an outstanding video. Love the effort and attention to the details that you always take. I almost forgot about that 91 Candy Maldonado card with Cory Haim on it. I will always remember being in grade 6 and all of us going crazy trying to pull that 90 UD Ben McDonald error card with the Orioles logo on the front. Do you remember that one?

    • @SilverJackify
      @SilverJackify  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely remember the Ben McDonald. That was a huge card in the early 90s back when he was a big name rookie. I think the excitement died down once his career didn't really pan out.

    Fun video! Back in the ‘70’s error cards were a big deal too. That was before the focus was on rookie cards. The 1979 Bump Wills Blue Jays card was a big deal.
    I was thinking the ‘69 Mantle was a variation. Is the ‘69 Aurelio Rodriguez an error because it was never corrected? 🤷

    • @SilverJackify
      @SilverJackify  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I looked into the Rodriguez card after you mentioned it and I would list that as an oddity and not an error. If I ever do a part 2 of this then that would definitely be in here. That is crazy!

    The 1990 Donruss Juan Gonzalez rookie card reverse negative.....with the Ripken FF card, the scramble to correct it with black box, black scribble and the white out scribble made it iconic. The white scribble is more valuable than the FF card. The 1989 Fleer Randy Johnson with the Marlboro sign over his shoulder.......1981 Fleer Fernand Valenzuela instead of Fernando.

    The error cards of the 1980's & 90's were no different than the SSP photo variations Topps uses these days. Companies made some mistakes but many of those error cards were done on purpose as a way to drive sales, especially after the Billy Ripken card publicity.

I do enjoy trading card games (Magic the Gathering, etc.), so TH-cam sometimes recommends sports card channels to me. Occasionally I'll click on one from time to time if it piques my interest. This time I'm glad I did. The subject is interesting, but more importantly I love the energy and enthusiasm of the presenter! That passion and charisma isn't something that can be taught.

    There r a couple of different variations of the billy Ripken FF card. I believe there are 4 or five different variations. The original ff, one blacked out, one with white square, one with what looks like a different shade of white, and one that looks almost like the color of the bat I believe. I’ve got the original, the white and black squares on the bat.

    Not very well known (yet) but the 2019 Upper Deck Mackenzie MacEachern Young Guns #212 card has a completely different player (Andreas Borgman) pictured on the card. Borgman only played preseason games for the Blues but didn't make the team, but somehow UD botched it and put him on MacEachern's rookie card. I think it's kind of a stretch to call a card an error card because a card was issued for a year a young rookie didn't make the team. Happened all the time when I was collecting cards. For instance, Lou Piniella had 3 rookies cards, each with a different team: 1964 Senators, 1968 Indians, 1969 Pilots, and when he finally did make the majors to stay it was with a fourth team (KC Royals), which means he had a rookie card five years before he actually became a full time major league player. Another example is Tommie Agee, who had rookie cards with the Indians and White Sox, I think 1965 and 1966.
    An error card (hockey) I've been curious about since I pulled it from a wax pack back in 1974: Jacques Lemaire on the Buffalo Sabres. Lemaire never played for Buffalo, but Topps went through the trouble of air brushing his Montreal Canadiens jersey to the blue & gold of the Sabres. Did they hear a trade rumor and just go with it? Then there's Dave Bennett's 1964 Phillies rookie card where it said on the back something like: "The 19 year old right handed curveballer is just 18 years old". A favorite oddity, not an error, but just thought I'd mention it. 1969 Kevin Collins card with the Mets, he's wearing a Mets uniform that features the World's Fair patch. The NY World's Fair took place in 1964-65, so Topps was using a 4-5 year old picture for that card, LOL. There's another card, can't remember exactly which, I think from 1968, which features a player, don't remember who, and the picture was taken in the Polo Grounds, which closed in 1963. Topps was digging in the archives even back then.
    I stopped collecting cards in the mid-80's, but kept what I had (which was a lot). Still have them in big boxes in the closet. I don't know any of the newer cards you mention here.

    The 1977 Topps C-3PO boner card is one of my favorite error cards. There is actually at least five versions. There is the Topps and the O'Pee Chee error card. There is the Topps and O'Pee Chee corrected version. and there is the Topps airbrushed version. I do not know if O'Pee Chee had a airbrushed version. You can totally see the airbrushed version. I have around 20 of these cards with only one being the airbrushed version. I probably have around 20 of the corrected version.
    The original story is a disgruntled worker modified the card shortly before he was fired.
    Topps story is Anthony Daniels C-3PO suit had some glue come undone. The picture was taken and submitted for the card and it was missed in editing.

    I had a couple error cards from the 89 Score cards. I remember a guy grabbing himself in the background of the pitcher, Paul Gibson. I remember a couple others also that i found funny! Matt Williams was another!! :) I remember when UpperDeck came out, Jim Abbot was one of my favorites! and they looked so nice!!!! :)

    1990 NNOF Frank Thomas is not an error card. Definition is that an error card has to be corrected by the manufacturer. This is a printing mistake that fixed itself. Also the mantle is a variation just like the Back differences or tint variations in 1962. Not an error that was specifically corrected by the manufacturer.

    whats funny is I have an old shoe box of those skybox basketball cards and havent looked at them in literally 25 years until a week ago because I watched a video about this and wondered if I had that card in that shoe box ... and went through it and had both the sam Vincent and that mark Jackson just sitting inside the shoebox. literally havent opened that shoe box up since like 1993. never even knew who sam Vincent was or mark Jackson back when I was buying these cards as a kid. just wanted to see if those cards might be in there. went through some other old shoe boxes full of cards the same day and came across tons of Michael Jordan cards, Larry bird, shaq, magic Johnson cards never even knew I had. probably around 100+ all together. and like 20 penny Hardaway rookies too.

    So I used to have the NNOF Thomas and sold it for 2000 raw back in 1991...talk about regret!! Had many 1989 Ripkens and have had all the variations. Finally parted ways with them. Highest prices i got were 700 each for psa 9 whiteout, and a psa 8 white scribble. The others did pretty good but none in the 3 figures. I have a 89 fleer Randy Johnson Marlboro error in grading now. It got a nine but i misidentified it as a partial and they didnt correct me like they do. so i resubmitted it as a Marlboro...wish me luck. The 1990 Donruss set was full of "errors" to make up for the ugly look of that bright red. we used to sell those by the hundreds and people paid up for all of them. Soon enough they got figured out. Lately i have been chasing easter egg cards from 2019 and 2020 o-pee-chee hockey. They arent errors but are super duper short printed. I have the Alex Ovechkin Reverse Photo variation. got it graded and it got a PSA 10!!!!! I really wish becket would include these in their price guide, since they gave us a checklist on their website. I have never seen this ovechkin for sale aside from mine. Im either gonna get huge money for this or keep it. What are your thoughts on these easter eggs?

      I definitely think that anything that creates scarcity is going to be a big deal in the future. It’s getting to a point where cards are going to get mass produced again (because of demand). When the bubble pops and all of these investors leave all we will be left with is cards that are scarce. The cards where 50k are in a PSA 10...I’d be very worried about

      @@SilverJackify No doubt!! On the other hand, we dont find ball cards at every store in huge numbers like we used to, so as mass produced as they seem, they are at least hard to find in retail. No more going to the corner store and buying a box of Topps then going to the flea mall to sell them all. Not to metion, the prices now compared to then!!!...i miss my 50 cent packs

    I had a no name Frank Thomas / first edition Pokémon Charizard and Pichu all destroyed by movers. I had water damage in my house and everything in my house went into storage as a company fixed everything. Once I got my stuff back I realized that somebody went through my collection and stole from it. They should not have taken my collection but they did by accident and I just accepted at the time I’d get it all back. So besides losing 2 sets of each year of the 1980’s USFL sets and other stuff, they had lose cards out in a box that got very badly dinged up. I through them away because these cards were mangled. The 3 that mattered cost me hugely!
    I priced them out half a year later after I moved back into my home and cried!! I didn’t know what they were worth until then.

    I'm still sick about it but I traded a ton of current rookies in the late eighties for a John Littlefield reverse negative card. I turned around and traded the Littlefield reverse negative for a 1968 Mickey Mantle. Unfortunately I traded the 68 mantle for about two shoe boxes worth of what would turn out to be total crap... Hindsight is 20/20! 😢

It's a iconic card . Sold a 12 Jordan card about the same time. ...i still need a mark Jackson!!!...... Petty sure the white letter mantle is not a error . There is a hole set printed that way....I would LOVE a bush card . The ungloss went out the back door of the printer .

    Ken Griffey isn’t that great HE was only able to hit as many HR’s as he did because he played in Seattle. If you just make decent contact on the baseball ⚾️ it’s going over the fence in Seattle. Ken Griffey would have never hit as many HR’s as he did if he was playing for any other team in any other ballpark.
