I pulled the Griffey refractor back in 93 when I was working at a card shop. I traded it to a different card/comic shop for Amazing Spider-man 100, 101 and 121, all in great shape. I no longer have the books and the comic shop closed 25 years ago lol
Love these updates. Make sure you compensate your research department, as their work is much appreciated. Hope you and your family are doing great back over in the US.
The 93 Finest Baseball Nolan Ryan refractor I'd love to own but I drive a beat up Toyota Camry so it will remain a dream just like the 68 Venezuelan. Regular Roller who still dreams big. Thanks Chris for bringing me back to the 90s. Great memories!
The 1994 Bowman Jorge Posada sold for 300 in August of 2021. That was me. Card was so hard to find and when I saw it pop up on ebay, I just had to have it. Let's roll.
THANK YOU!! Absolutely enjoyed the content. Was the hey day of my collecting and when I returned to the hobby in 2017 I went back to recollecting my collection as I had given away my collection years prior. Big mistake. Again, thank you. Maybe we can eventually get one for late 90's cards?
The 91 Donruss Elite insert cards were a tough pull and I remember going to my LCS and my buddy bought 2 packs and pulled the Cecil Fielder..😮 The shop owner offered him $50 bucks and he politely declined..🤔😉 Thanks for the great video and the research you put in Chris..😍 Love it.. Happy Father's Day.. Take care..👍💕🔥👊
During this era my father would give me 20/wk to use at LCS, could get anything , packs , singles, set ,whatever. One week they had this new finest product , 20 a pack, which was crazy at the time and my father thought I was crazy for using all 20 on one pack. Hit a John Kruck refractor from that pack. The following week got one more pack and got the Griffey AS base. Good times 😎
Your lcs was ripping you off if they sold it at $20 a pack right after release. It was higher than any other release, but I remember it being $5 when it first came out. It was up to $10 after it was out a couple months.
@@brentpearson298 you were getting robbed. I literally never saw it over $10 until several months after it was released. This includes seeing it at multiple cars shops, and card shows throughout the northeast.

Great video, Chris. So many great cards and sets in the us era. I think my favorite is the 1993 Finest refractor set. The fact that they are the absolute first refractors in hobby history, and the scarcity, it’s just hard not to love them. 241 copies of each and you’re right, raw copies, and honestly even graded copies, don’t pop up a bunch. Most people who own these are collectors and won’t be selling.

I recently bought a lot of cards from an estate sale. All of the cards are between 1989 and 1994 and I have at least one of the cards from every player in this video. I really don't know what I'm doing or going to do, but I feel like I either want to have cards graded and keep them or sell them. With that in mind, I get the impression that this generation of cards only has value if the cards are perfect and from what I saw here, the likely hood that this generation of cards is a 9 or 10 is low. What would you recommend someone who has never collected before do? My collection looks like it's in good shape, but the cards don't pop like current cards, I assume that was the limitations of printing 35 years ago.
Chris I have a comment / topic for you to discuss or answer say I buy a pop 1 then some months later I have in a case at show everyone who has interest pulls the sale sees what I paid offers barely anything over

Way back in 92 I walked into my local card shop and the dealer was fuming over the 92 Bowman case he just got. It looked like it was dropped off a 10 story building. 4 boxes were obliterated. He asked if I wanted to buy it at cost and I laughed at him. Yup. Where's the time machine?
