    I love how this entire trailer tried to pull the "ok, Metroid Prime isn't that good," and the entire comment section says "10/10, Masterpiece, one of the best games I've ever played."

    • @robhulson
      @robhulson ปีที่แล้ว +62

      That's because this game somehow found the "fun button" and it mercilessly presses it. Of course it's a giant fetch quest, that's pretty much what all games are. It just has such an amazingly enjoyable and pleasurable way of doing it. I've been thinking about classical games, the kinds that will probably transcend generations.
      Not because they were novel, but because they were simply f u n. The original Prime is just that. Prime 2 was OK, it didn't have the magic of the original and some of it felt more tedious. But I do remember enjoying Prime 3.

      Yeah, Im roughly half way through it and having sooo much fun again. However not having auto save really showed me how spoiled we have gotten by it.

      @@robhulson it's also because complaining about a Metroidvania being a metroidvania is weird. Nintendo also never marketed this game as a shooter either, but it's still somehow more engaging than actual shooters. And the platforming point is a bit weird when one of the key selling points for Metroid Prime is that the platforming feels good.

    • @JBasilix
      @JBasilix ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@robhulson I guess it just comes down to personal taste but in my opinion Prime 2 is the best of the trilogy with 3 being the worst. Prime 2 refined what 1 was already good at like the atmosphere and storytelling while making serious improvements to previously less great design choices like the Magmoor problem. I also really like the ammo system because it gives more depth to the choice of weapon and makes finding capacity upgrades actually great unlike missile tanks which become kinda unnecessary at some point.
      I understand that people don´t like the energy drain of the dark world but that is also because many people will fully heal in every bubble of light even though that is completely unneseccary with health pickups being not rare. However I can see how that is the designers fault since people are known to optimize the fun out of games with the designers having the responsibility to make sure the game is never not fun.

Wii controls though, without a doubt, are THE best motion controls for any game I've played.

    • @MrWhygodwhy
      @MrWhygodwhy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheEveryDayC Probably because it was what the game was designed with first and because it was how you got used to playing the game. It also made more sense on the gamecube controller, which wasn't a controller that had a particularly great setup for first person games. (it had dual analog, but no one would be comfortable playing Halo for instance with that C stick and those triggers).
      Today however, first person controls have been figured out and standardized. While I think both control schemes work for the game, if you forgot or haven't played before, you would have to learn a fairly cumbersome control method just for this game and without a lot of benefit to it. So that's why I say it has aged the worst and that it would be the control scheme where "hating yourself" makes more sense.

    I'm surprised I didn't laugh more, this one wasn't actually very funny. Not because you made fun of Prime, but because the things you poke fun at are actually what make the game _fun._
    Plenty of things to make fun of Prime about, and the Saw death trap joke was absolutely hilariously spot-on. But platforming and item scavenging and using the part of your brain responsible for finding an obstacle, noting it, and remembering it after you've learned a new skill or got a new weapon is a deeply human experience.

    Ah... the good old "I don't care for this thing, so everyone who loves it is either blinded by nostalgia or just doesn't know better". If you're going to take shots at the game maybe come up with some that aren't so lazy. Though, considering some of the material here, I question if the writer actually played the game.

    This was my absolute favorite game for a long time.
    Now I can see that it's become a bit dated, but it's still pretty good.
    I would even say Doom Eternal felt like the same kind of game.
    It had first person platforming, it had exploration and simple puzzles for upgrades, it had largely arena based combat.
    The only real difference was the lack of significant back tracking.
    Though I will point out, the areas don't connect as much as they could in Prime.
    In the 2D Metroids, getting new powers opens shortcuts between areas, or within areas.
    Prime does that a bit, but nowhere near as much, the areas aren't as interconnected.
    That's one of the few things I hope they can change with Prime 4.

    The platforming in Metroid Prime has always been damn good for a first-person game. And it's especially great with the new control scheme giving access to proper camera controls. Not sure what the writers were on about. And "singular Metroid" is just factually incorrect. Sure, this mutation is weaker than the ones in the 2D games, but they're still Metroids. I'll give "completionist nightmare" a pass since there are some missiles tanks that are just...out there in places no one would think to check, and getting 100% scans is actually rather challenging.

    To me, the saddest part about honest game trailer, it's that, If they don't like the game, they will not be "honest" about It, like in honest trailers, but rather, they will Just s**t the game and that is It. And c'mon, the "starring" part is complaining about backtracking? Metroid is know for that! Heck, they created backtrack in games. Don't see that complain in Doom, or Castlevania... I love Honest Trailer, but idk How much the "Fandom Games" messes with their script, because even when they hate a movie, they give a honest Trailer in all points, not just "free hate" It.

    I understand Honest Game Trailers are critical, it's why I usually find them funny and even this one, there's aspects that are still amusing - the being a big SAW hell puzzle and no wonder the Chozo went extinct trying to get to the bathroom! But this is a much loved, classic game and this seemed overly negative. It's a truly brilliant game which is still eminently playable now with this remaster. I agree it seems easy to modern audiences but I suspect that's also because of the new control system too.
    Each to their own, but when people were asking you to do a Honest Game Trailer for this, I doubt this is what they were on board for.

    I get that some stuff is altered or exaggerated for the sake of jokes, like talking about the controls while leaving half of the options out, but saying things so blatantly wrong like 'singular metroid' is strange. This video feels like somebody saw the hype and wanted to be contrarian for no reason. Considering the blatant misinformation, the slant of the video doesn't even feel like the writer was personally invested in it, so contrary opinion isn't coming from a place of passion.
    I don't even mind being critical about the game, but if you're going to, at least do so without being objectively wrong.
