  • This episode is part of EMDR's Third Weekend, much more like this is there: EmdrThirdWeekend.com
Using age, space, and topography to find an individual representative memory related to a presenting issue or a theme.
    • Identify a negative cognition.
    • What age do we need to work related to that theme and negative cognition?
    • Home, school, or community?
    • Where (what room) in that space do we need to work?
    • Put yourself in that space at that age and related to that theme and negative cognition, what memory comes?
    • Target that in EMDR Therapy.

As a patient doing EMDR, who has trouble accessing specific memories related to the feelings and body sensations, this is helpful

Tom, thank you for all that you do! I used this today w/a client who was struggling to find a specific target and it worked great!

As a client with cptsd from abuse in childhood and later on, thank you! I have had 6 sessions of EMDR but get overwhelmed with what to chose. I honestly dont know which memories are the worst as there are so many terrible memories 💛 Will try to implement this on myself to see what pops up!

Why implicit memory that manifests in body when triggered would not be at its best for desensitization. It activates the same limbic network that original or theme memories are. Is there good explanation.

In my case implicit somatic memory triggered is way more powerful than recall 40 years back even with topographic approach. Why would I not use more powerful memory which is a trigger as target.

Would someone who experienced childhood emotional neglect benefit from EMDR? It would seem that type of abuse is ongoing. On top on it could be other issues: domestic abuse, death of a parent, etc. Is such a patient a good candidate for EMDR?
