At the 1:16 mark the overlay graphics for left wound and right wound springs are wrong. The overlay white graphic for the two springs should be swapped left to right, and the overlay text for the spring on the right hand side of the door should say "Left wound spring coil (and wind up to store energy) in a clockwise direction and are installed on the right". And the red winding arrow (depicting the winding action) should be moving clockwise. And of course vise versa for the spring to be mounted on the left hand side of the door which begins at the 1:22 mark. It should say "Right wound springs coil counterclockwise and are installed on the left". The good news is that the red (left side) and black (right side) color codes were stated correctly, and so the spring wind direction is of secondary importance. If you install the red painted cone spring on the left, and the black painted cone spring on the right, its going to wind up the springs in the proper direction to counteract the door weight.

I have a garage door, on a newly built house, less than four years old. One side of the torsion spring broke. I have researched and know that i should replace both when this happens. Unfortunately, I have found that the springs are different. One side was of gold color and the other side was of blue color. Which pair should I get?

This all assumes that the correct spring was installed in the first place, which in my case would be incorrect! I weighed my door with the door all the way down on a digital bathroom scale and got 153.4 lbs. This is for a 14ft x 7ft door in my case. There was only one spring on my door, which was broken, and which measured .207" wire dia. x 2 in. I.D. x 24-3/4" long. This is only good for a door of about 74 lbs! In reality I need 2 springs similar to this at 25" length for a weight capacity of 148 lbs. or maybe 2 that are a bit shorter, like 23" for a weight capacity of 162 lbs.

Just asking....when you say you measured the weight with the door all the way down..... you ALSO need to lever the forcing cone so that the attaching cables to the bottom panel...are TOTALLY SLACK. If you did not do that, then you will get a wrong reading.... too light. If you did that....fine....but this point may then be used for others who read this and may not know.

I don't get it! Should not the door travel and weight be considered? This is just matching springs to an old spring that might not be the correct spring.
