A lot of guys were obsessed with neither Diana Troi the character or Marina Sirtis. It's funny because she said she was an ugly awkward child. So to all of a sudden be a sex symbol, it boosted her confidence.

Marina is a very nice Lady. As a favor for a friend of mine, who was also a devoted fan of STNG, she got him for his birthday a complete cast photo personally autographed by everyone. She went out of her way to do this, and for someone Marina didn't even know. I had met her only twice before and very briefly through a mutual acquaintance. It was a very generous thing to do...she's just that kind of a person. My friend passed away at an early age, but he cherished and had that photo framed, and it hung in his home as a precious possession for all the days he had left on earth. All of us, who were his friends, knew how important and what impact this had on his outlook and sense of worth. Her act of generosity and kindness made this unassuming and shy man feel very special in a way that no one else could have done.

I met her in London just by chance and I was wearing a Trek t-shirt and she was so polite knowing I was going to say something trek orientated but as soon as I said I loved her part in NCIS she just said really loud 'oh my god' and hugged me! She was so happy a trek fan was asking about non-trek, she bought me a coffee and we talked for about an hour going from now right back to her Death Wish 3 days.
One of the most amazing hours of my entire life!

A friend of mine went to an autograph signing with her after one of the movies premiered locally. He said he purposely got in line late in hopes she'd see not many people left and take a little more time with him.
Even though he was, as he put it, so nervous he couldn't do anything but sweat buckets and say, "my God, you're even more beautiful in person," she handled everything with grace and a relaxed sense of humor about all of it.
She replied, "so are you," and smiled. She spent the next 18 minutes calmly chatting with him (yes, of course my friend timed it, he paid three other people to record it from around the room). She even laughed at his prepared jokes, and politely thanked him for the compliment.
And then he tried to be smooth and kiss her hand...
... at which point her companion (roughly 6'4" and 245 lbs with about 6% body fat and dressed in full biker leathers and about 7 lbs of large shiny rings on each hand), stepped forward, put one finger between my friend's face and her hand. My friend started to say something in protest of the interference, and then realized that the massive knuckles and rings on the hand near his face were very similar to the massive knuckles and rings on the clenched fist that was about 18in away from his now fading smile.
She handled it with all the grace and class you would expect: she had her companion step back and sit down, which she accomplished by looking at him and placing one index finger on his chest, seemingly guiding him back to his seat, and giving him the most subtle and yet tremendously reassuring nod of her head.
She then turned around and smiled an even bigger smile at my friend, she took his hand into her hand and told him that she wanted him to remember this as a very positive experience, not what had just happened.
She asked him if he wanted an autographed picture, as she was, already, not only signing an autograph but writing several sentences on the front and the back of the picture. She followed writing on the picture by placing a perfectly formed set of lipstick impressions, kissing the signed photo.
Then she reapplied lipstick on her lips, which made about half the men in the room stop talking entirely and just watch,.. and then she shocks everyone in the room by kissing my friend, with an equally lipstick Laden set of beautiful lips as the photo, on each of his cheeks, just above the beard which he had spent over an hour that day trying to shave it is close to the commander Riker beard as he could.
She complemented the beard, saying there is Deanna Troi would love that beard.
It took about six months for my friend to stop incessantly talking about this experience, though I understand his excitement, given that, though many of us in this circle of friends enjoy very much the Star Trek franchise, the TV shows, movies, this friend is on a whole different level. And he still has never shown anyone what she wrote on that picture that she signed with a kiss

I remember attending a TNG event at a an airport hotel in Portland, OR in which Ms. Sirtis was the featured guest. She gave a wide ranging narrative about the show, her life, she was very warm giving and engaging with group of fans in attendance. At the end of the event all of the fans filed past a table where she was seated signing autographs and graciously sharing exchanges with the fans. when it was my turn to greet Ms. Sirtis, being mindful of her time she shared with the fans in attendance I said thank you for your time today, or something to that effect, to which she cocked her head to one side as if taken aback not expecting those words, she did not answer me, but I will always remember her kind expression of acknowledgement.

I've seen Marina at conventions several times and have always admired her so much. She always ends her talks by thanking her fans for everything - her house, her car, her husband (she met during the show), her jewelry, the clothes on her very back, etc. Most TV stars are such snotty, demanding prima donas, but Marina is just so classy, genuine and thankful for the way her life has gone. I was surprised to feel moved so much for a tv series. But TNG always been the best tv show for me. And i know it was far from being perfect. Many flaws and inconsistancies were obvious. But the entire universe, the characters, the plots, the philosophical dilemmas, the noble attitude and the courage of the entire crew, their chemisty... I mean, it will take alot to best that IMO.

Desiree Bannister and half the stories in Voyager could have used to keep ST:TNG alive for three or four more seasons. Murder She Wrote went for 12 season. Next Gen could have too. Cancelling Next Gen was one of the worst decisions. Second worst idea was producing the very dumb Enterprise series.

I was around for STO in syndication (I turned 48 in July) and I absolutely loved everything they did for it. It wasn't just science fiction, it was a family in space, even just being officers on the bridge of a starship; real or fake didn't matter, it was the interactions. The TOS movies tried to move away from the super-tight Navy style of command, but they didn't get far and I still love all of those movies.
When TNG came about, I wasn't sure what to expect? The morning of Encounter at Farpoint, Part I, we were living in San Diego, and there was a 4.something earthquake; I thought it was my Mom shaking me awake, but it was Saturday and I was certain it still wasn't time to watch Star Trek, which I anticipated beyond reason. I told the "air" Mom it wasn't time, yet, and that it was Saturday and I would have my chores done because I wanted to watch Star Trek: The Next Generation that night.
Although the interactions with the TNG crew were somewhat spread out and went through multiple separations and iterations, I think I enjoyed those interactions, especially the more mature the show became, more than TOS. The TNG movies were better writing, better, technology, better quality than TOS and, thus, I tend to re-watch those more than TOS, though I still love that original series. Picard has always presented a more mature, more "officer" front to his role, not being the loosey goosey presence of Captain Kirk, though in truth I enjoyed that, as well.
When I watched All Good Things... I was numb. I was truthfully psychologically and physically numb. A lot of people, including myself, were that way when Friends ended, but the end of TNG affected me far more than, I think, anyone expected. I was a role-player by then, I loved the stories being told, and I love being challenged to think about the new ideas and the potential answers to old ideas presented each week. Star Trek: The Next Generation became my favorite series of all time, as a result. I won't even turn on Discovery and I'm iffy about the Kelvin time-line films... they're good entertainment, and they fit within Star Trek, but they have their own feel and their own Trek-ness and are not Trek, at the same time. I'm likely not communicating very well.
Jason Marchi mentioned that three or four more seasons might have been made from other series' shows that really didn't find their niche, the episodes would have fit better with TNG and, although I would like to agree with him about that, I think TNG ended when it was supposed to, finished on a high note seldom seen in show-closings, and those additional seasons would have dragged out what closed at the right time, unnecessarily. As for addressing Enterprise as very dumb, I have to whole-heartedly disagree with that sentiment... by the end of the fourth season they were really beginning to find their stride, and I think they could and should have gone on for three more seasons. Though I respect Jason's opinion and, I would hope, he respects mine, there are a lot of folks out there who actually loved Enterprise, such as myself, and would liked to have seen it go on longer.
Anyway, for Marina Sirtis to express that she was in tears as they were shutting off the lights on the sets is an affirmation that I was not wrong about how I acted for the closing of this television show. I was a 23 year old man when the show closed, and I cried through that night, mourning the death of an old friend.

She said it best- the last director didn't really know Star Trek... JJ Abrams didn't know Star Trek, he admitted he did it as an audition for Star Wars! No more people who don't know the franchise in control of them!

I agree. It's true that the Wrath of Khan got off the ground (and flew as high as it did) in part because they'd brought in new blood in the form of the director, Nick Meyers, but he did the professional thing and familiarized himself with the show, and in particular Space Seed, and while there were some plot holes (like Khan recognizing Chekov). There were also other people involved in the making of the film (like Roddenberry and many others) who were deeply involved in Star Trek -- and the result was what many would call the best of the Star Trek movies. (I would personally say the first one was, but I'm weird and I know it.) Also, Meyers wasn't using the Star Trek movie as a jumping off point to another franchise the way Abrams was (which is really unethical, to be frank).

I dont mind the Abrams Star Trek so much. Regardless of how well or poorly people decided he did with them, the old Trek fans would trash it immediately and jeopardize any investment in Star Trek theatrically in the future - potentially could be so be exciting. Now we have Discovery which I had been dying to see and ended up not connecting with it lol. Abrams doesnt even look so bad now right? But I watched it to keep interest going. Hopeful the new series with Stewart will be something to cherish in the ST universe, as was TNG.

Whenever I see Marina in interviews and at conventions (I was a huge TNG fanboy in the 1990s when I was a teen), I'm always surprised at how different she is from her character. Marina is very Greek and British - she's loud, snarky, blunt, and a lot like "one of the boys" - yet they cast her as the serious, feminine, emotional Troi. In the episode where she went undercover as a Romulan intelligence officer, she was a little more true to Marina's character.

Acting isn't necessarily determined by someone's real life personality. It's a profession. She's rude, arrogant and can be very shitty towards fans.

You can feel the love she has for her cast members. My favorite Star Trek crew of all time is getting into their elderly years and I grew up watching them on TV, seeing all their movies, even meeting some of them in person at some Star Trek conventions. She always ends her talks by thanking her fans for everything - her house, her car, her husband (she met during the show), her jewelry, the clothes on her very back, etc. Most TV stars are such snotty, demanding prima donas, but Marina is just so classy, genuine and thankful for the way her life has gone. She was sexy in the series, and always compassionate, sort of every geek's dream girl. I love the way she hasn't lost her looks at all in the long years since. But then again, Greek women aren't known for losing their looks. If anything, she's grown more beautiful. Troi added the emotion to the show; she was at first just the emotional side of Dr. McCoy, but became a character on her own, and more real than a lot of other women on TV at that time. ("Pretty, emotional and smart? What's that?")

I met her at a ST convention the summer of 95 in Northern Virginia. She gave an hour talk and afterwards signed autographs. It was one signed photo per person to keep the line moving--and it was long. I had two photos but only handed one across the table to her. Suddenly she noticed my three year old son who was with me and asked if he was mine. I nodded yes and she instructed me to give her the other photo to sign as well. Marina is the coolest, and her beauty really is exceptional. When you see her in person, you instantly understand why the camera loves her.
