He's a naturally funny guy. His constant denial of every impression's accuracy is just part of his schtik. It's like, I remember when the movie "Galaxy Quest" came out, he mentioned that he recognized every character as a Star Trek reference, except for the Tim Allen part. He was like, "for the life of me, I don't know who he's supposed to be. What are they doing with this?"

Bill Shatner is one of the coolest celebrities EVER! I love his sense of humor.
I love that he just flat out owns the fact that Bruce Campbell called him out on his acting style being the way it is because he can't remember his lines. "He's right!"

I think every actor does that to some extent but there’s some that do it more seamlessly than others that’s for sure, not as iconic though

Bruce Campbell is one of my favorite actors of all time... I still laugh at the scene where his hand was trying to kill him in the kitchen of Evil Dead. And in Army of Darkness "This is my BOOMSTICK!"
Man for a 90 year old he's pretty sharp and still has a lot of energy.

Most Shatner impressions are of his ordinary lines but with the style and mannerisms of his more emotional deliveries.
They’re hilarious…even Shatner couldn’t help laughing at Carey’s lunacy.
Plus they're fellow Canadians.

I saw Shatner at a sci fi convention. The audience was on the verge of rioting because the electricity went out, but the charismatic Shatner ran to the center of the stage and yelled orders at everyone, which they obeyed to the letter just as happened on Star Trek. It became so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. He is a natural leader in real life.

Him purposely or unknowingly not acknowledging His acting style makes it even funnier to me.
I think he's not knowingly not acknowledging it. He's acknowledged it before in his comedy tour.
That's what great about Shatner. You never quite know if he's pulling your leg.
Until Bruce calls him out on the 'why' and then he happily goes along with it :) - Shatner is at least a good sport about it all.
People love to give Shatner crap for his acting, but he was masterful as Denny Crane. He and Spader played so well off each other.

He comes off as grating and a bit of an oddball to be honest.
I will literally never be over him roasting Seth McFarlane’s perfect, beat-for-beat impression, while talking almost exactly like the impression.
His humor is dry and subtle.
I agree with Shatner. He's laughing and not taking the lines seriously. Jason Alexander has the best impersonation here.

I didn't like how boiling with emotions the Zachary Spock was. He should have been more reserved for a greater portion of the time. It's not Zachary's fault though. He didn't write it.
Shatner truly knows everybody loves and appreciates him. That’s why they do him. He has cemented himself into our culture and our hearts.
I love that Shatner is sharp and on the ball and basically comes off as 70, even though he is 90.
He doesn't seem a day over 86.

I always loved that Bruce Campbell Shatner impression. Funny watching Shatner himself viewing it. He looked a bit confused/not happy with it at first but by the end you can tell he sees the humor and appreciates Bruce's wit.
Shatner's stylized acting/over-acting isn't for everyone, but its unique and memorable. You can pretty much do an impression of him saying anything and people will immediately recognize it. That's an amazing thing.
90 years old and his voice is still strong and resonant, his energy still alert and vital. Amazing.
wish same can be said for Patrick Stewart, he had such a powerfull voice an now its all broken down :( but least hes still doing star trek i suppose lol

Bill, they're not doing impressions of you, they're doing impressions of the way you portrayed Captain James Kirk. Kirk's speech inflection and cadence was unique, to say the least. That's why you've had more impressions done by other actors and comics than any other Star Trek actor.
He knows. He's having fun with it

I have known so much BS in my life, I am pretty sure he is flattering his ego by imagining he is being funny when doing this tryhard self-mocking routine while also mixing in serious critique. It's basically as funny as any fake just-kidding approach.

here we see you acting like you're a human being with something valuable to say. Yep that's good acting alright probably even better than Bill's
The Kirk character was a believable threat, in all situations. Like the character Jim West. He wasn't some muscle bound behemoth, he was a credibly build for a wrestler. The action was always gritty and realistic which helped ground the fantastical situations of the show. People tease over his cadence but fail to notice the subtle fact that the alien beings he's interacting with, don't speak English as a first language. Shatner was a true actor, and played the role of Kirk like few men could.
I’ve never watched a single second of ‘Star Trek’ but just recently I’ve come to love William Shatner! He carries himself with a lot of class.

Shatner delivers his lines like a stage actor, strong enunciation and powerful emphasis. Not natural sounding, rather hammy. And it's wonderful.

In the Star Trek movies it had mellowed out a bit.
He started as a classically trained Shakespearian theater actor. So....
He only did that on Star Trek, to try to add drama and excitement. Watch him in literally anything else before that
Gotta say, while Bruce didn't attempt to "sound" like him, he 100% nailed the tempo and delivery.
That was a proper impression. Without trying to sound too pretentious, he caught the essence rather than attempting to just parrot him. Bruce is great.

I had the privilege of meeting him when I was a kid in the early 70's..he was a very nice man. Met Spock at the same meeting. My little brother asked where the Enterprise was and Leonard N pointed up and said it's up there..lol

I grew up watching Bill Shatner on Star Trek. He was actually one of my heroes and the only movie I've ever paid to see twice was Star Trek The Undiscovered Country.

I met him at a restaurant after his motorcycle broke down. He was sunburned and still took the time to meet with people. He was super nice.

For modern version of Kirk, Pine was the great choice, not 100% perfect but he did very well, especially back in 2016. Kinda wish Shatner was in the movie as future Kirk cameo like Nimoy did.

Chris will always be in Shatner's good books because of how respectful he was to Shatner when he was first taking up the role. Chris wrote Shatner a letter asking for his blessings, and in midst of a bitter tussle with Paramount, Shatner really, really appreciated that. ❤

I recently started watching Star Trek the original series on Netflix and now I understand the obsession with this show. Yeah certain aspects of it are outdated and can look silly but the stories are absolutely incredible the music and narration are so charming and despite the technical limitations at that time they did a great job making you totally immersed . I just can't stop watching.
I explained to some kids a while ago that Tik Tok's come and go, Star Trek will be with us in 100 years time. It has become absorbed into the psyche to the extent that it's part of our culture.

Love Bill Shatner. Met him at Comic-Con a few years back, and he was the nicest guy ever. Everyone talks about what a diva he is, but he took his time and talked to my daughter when she wanted a collectible Enterprise signed. He asked her where she got it and listened very intently; seemed genuinely interested and pleased that she would ask him to sign it. Great guy. Class act.
You were lucky! He was supposed to be in my city’s Comic-Con last April (2020) but it was cancelled due to Covid. Hopefully he will make it here one day. Glad he was so nice. I’ve been a huge fan since I was a young boy in the sixties.
I met him at Ticonderoga NY for his Birthday Celebration and I couldn't agree more! He was very nice constantly thanking everyone who came to the event. I, unfortunately, didn't have the opportunity to sit in on his Bridge Chat or go on any of the tours of the Star Trek set there, but I did get a photo with him and got him to sign my Eaglemoss XL Diecast Enterprise-A.
One time, years ago on Twitter, I got to speak to him, and I asked him for a digital autograph and he was kind enough to send one :D
I saw him at Phoenix Comicon a few years ago and he could barely give me a moment of his time. I guess he's all about kids now since he has grandkids. But as an adult fan, he was rude.
I think it's probably a case of him having so many fan interactions in the last 50+ years that there's bound to be some negative interactions. Also, I'm sure he's evolved over that time.
I love William Shatner. This guy has incredible genes, doesn't look a day over 65, yet is 90 + years of age.

I've seen him live, and Mr. Shatner can be very funny, he can be thoughtful, he can be serious. However, no matter how he is, when he steps up to a microphone, he is ALWAYS entertaining! I grew up with Star Trek, I have continued following his career through Boston Legal (where I found myself laughing way more than perhaps I should!
