Great idea, I was dealing with raccoons which were destroying my bluebird eggs so I built a similar device which used a 5 gallon bucket and PVC piping, video is called "How to save bluebird eggs with this!"Hope you have great success.

So far my contraption has kept out the raccoons, just have to remove all bird feeders when my bluebirds lay their eggs, otherwise the wrens and sparrows get aggressive and destroy the bluebird eggs because they get territorial over the food.

Did the 4" pipe work? I saw elsewhere they recommended 8" pipe. Let us know if this really worked with your raccoons.

Take a piece of plywood and make it a foot wider all around from the foot print of your step-ladder. Lay the plywood on the ground where you need to use the step-ladder. Problem solved.

Use Cheyenne pepper on food or get spicy bird food. Bird are not affected by spicy stuff, but racoons and squirrels feel the heat. You could also use safflower seeds, bird like it but they are very bitter to mammals.

Good video, There must be a hundred vids on solving bird feeding problems .
Ad enjoyable as bird watching /feeding is,
It sure can be frustrating on occasion.
    B.t.w.
I checked with your local rangers,
The beats in your area can reach up to eight feet 😳
    😉

I gave it a thumbs down because there does not appear to be any followup. Result is my time wasted. Please follow up with a success story or remove this video.

You should of used galvanized pipe so it wouldn't rust so bad. You have never posted if it worked.
