Ok BUT having one character go WAY harder on the backstory(especially when it's the foundation of the session) then the others and like one basically doesn't bother at all is suuuuper accurate to every campaign I've done
I watched it yesterday for the first time and really liked it! I had forgotten the trailer, and I totally thought Chris Pine's character was making up his tragic backstory until they got to his house 😂
It's actually crazy how Evil Dead Rise was originally going to be released straight to HBO Max. From the trailer alone, it looks like it deserves to be seen in a theater, thank you Warner Bros for doing the right thing

Anything with Stephanie Hsu is an automatic win for me. Even if she gets two lines in it like in Shang-Chi. So Joy Ride is a must see for me.
I guess I'm in the minority with this, but MY favorite Evil Dead movie is the one from 2013. The one thing I WISHED they did in that one is explore the character of Mia further, because she spends so much time possesed by a demon, you don't really get to see that much into her struggles with substance abuse and wanting to get clean until the ending when she gets unpossesed and fights the thing that possessed her (and killed all of her friends)
Not at all in a minority, Evil Dead 2013 was a great movie, I know a few people who prefer the tone kf that to the originals (the heathens lol i joke i joke).
I really liked Ash vs The Evil Dead a ton, but i have a soft spot for the 2013 reboot. Your point about Mia not being fleshed out is super super on point though, completely agree.

there's a channel 4 tv series called Pure O, unfortunately it was cancelled after one season, but it's really great.
I haven't seen Dungeons and Dragons yet, but if they do a cutaway scene of the characters dressed in modern clothing, and it's revealed that they're actually just regularpeople playing a tabletop RPG and got too immersed in the game, I'd be HELLA impressed.
They dont but if you play it i think youll still have fun with the movie its very clear when a action of the characters is a failed role and things like that
This doesn’t happen but I did think this like halfway through when I was looking at the wardrobe….like they look like figurines…it’s a very good movie tho.
They still immediately drop into their backstories and motivations everytime a new party member joins so it still has that vibe. They knew what they were doing and it's great.
That could have been a great end credits scene 😂

On D&D I appreciated the characters giving their backstories and some resolutions resolving because that's how it works while playing a game. I wouldn't mind a fan edit where someone intercuts themselves playing a real game of DnD with the movie playing out the story.

Just saw Evil Dead Rise. Loved it! The main actress was born to play a possessed woman. Mommy was iconic.
TH-cam basically said “We see you’re struggling, so we’re going to make your paycheck smaller. :)” Sounds about right. I don’t know why that video was flagged because I watched it and saw nothing concerning.

I bet it had something to do with the parts of the recap where characters took their own lives. Amanda used very careful wording in those sections to avoid the specific words that might be triggering or get her flagged, but I'm guessing TH-cam still managed to pick up on it anyway.

D&D: Honor Among Thieves pacing is strange, because it feels like real d&d session, with role play among players (main characters) and lore dumps by DM

I've heard about "Late Night With The Devil", and I'm really interested to see it. Someone who also saw it at SXSW theorized (and I agree, hearing the descriptions of it) that the story elements are inspired by a BBC broadcast of a faux-documentary back in the early 90s called "Ghostwatch". Ghostwatch was an hour long mockumentary hosted by a well known BBC journalist (can't recall his name off the top of my head) who remains at the studio set while a crew go out to a house in suburban London to record and document a ghost that is haunting a family. By the end of the broadcast, apparently the on-site crew have disappeared, or something terrible has happened to them, and the entity under investigation has made its way to the studio set and has possessed the host. The ending is really horrifying, and people watching it thought they were watching a real documentary (even though it was being broadcast on or near Halloween, much like the Orson Welles "War of the Worlds" radio show in the 1930s). People reported being traumatized by that show "Ghostwatch", and to this day, the BBC has never aired it again.
This movie, "Late NIght With The Devil" sounds as if it's taken some story beats from that. Cool.

Evil dead will always be weird, the only constants are the nechronomicon and the deadites. That’s really the things that have to be there, any type of horror could be done and as long as those two things are there, it can work

The amount of ads that I've seen for Evil Dead Rise has made me completely hate the movie and I don't even know what it's about. I've only seen like 2-3 trailer but on repeat like 4-5 times a TH-cam video. Over promoting is a thing.😭😭😂
I remember thinking I was going to spend my entire life in a mental ward when my Pure O symptoms started manifesting. Been interesting to see it in film.

I've commented on this channel plenty of times before, but we actually host a big part of this festival at my work, Alamo Drafthouse! It's surreal knowing that you went there! I do prefer Fantastic Fest over SXSW though, but they are both exciting.
I have been so excited for evil dead rise since I saw the trailer. I grew up with horror movies so seeing a new installment can be both exciting yet anxiety inducing cause it can make or break the entire series

“Theater camp” sounds like it may also be a spiritual successor to “Camp” the deeply chaotic 2003 movie where young Anna Kendrick sabotages a girl so she can sing “Ladies who Lunch” in the worst wig ever
Tetris is one of those movies that will probably satisfy general audiences but the true story is just much more interesting.
Even as a fan of Evil Dead Rise, I admit that Talk to Me is leagues above it. And yeah, that moment with the asshole heckler was insane

Just got out of evil dead rise and fuckin loved it. I went in wanting a bloodbath and that’s exactly what I got I can forgive the fact it didn’t really focus on the story cause it was so fuckin awesome. Currently my favorite horror movie of the year and the actor for the deadite mom was so good.

Evil Dead Rise, from the trailers, gives you the wrong impression of what that movie will be. The egg cracking/door scene gave me the impression we were going to get some really cool, creepy horror. Then I ended up with a pretty goofy, gory horror movie. It wasn’t bad, I just felt like I was lied to. XD

Evil dead was HILARIOUS!! Almost everyone in the theatre were laughing and yelling ouch ouch at the gory scenes. I thought the movie was going to scare me good. It was hilarious, the characters were so dumb I-

8:32 lol didn’t know Maddie Ziegler was in another movie. Always thought she’d be a great actress bc of the history of her powerful and emotive dancing having a lot to do with her expressions and how she brought the songs to life… but I’ve been underwhelmed with her acting. Like she’s not the worst.. but it always feels like it’s so obvious she’s had less acting experience when it comes to movies and shows. Like in the fallout with Jena Ortega who is just an incredible actress … and it just highlighted Maddie’s less convincing acting at times. It’s interesting but she keeps getting more acting projects so maybe she has grown more in her speaking roles

I like that Michael Jordan is shot around like the prophet in the 1976 movie The Message. Also, thank you for your videos.
i liked evil dead rise so much i actaully watched it twice. the first time was just fun for me with some spots that didn't hit but couldn't figure out why, then the second time it clicked for me. a lot fo the set up for different things (scissors, for example) felt way too obvious and could have felt a lot more organic if, for example the scissors, we didn't have a visual shot of Kassie sliding them under the couch, but instead just heard them slide. my opinion. also Bridget's lines after the thing i won't mention happens were just uhh... hmm. and then the ending w/ that girl was a bit questionable, logically. solid 8/10 since i really had fuin with it, but i won't fault my friends for giving it more of a 7/10.
also i think the movie hit better for me having had no idea what movie my friend took me to see when i saw it the first time. i was extremely devastated when the mom was got.
Something I wish Amanda touched on with Tetris is not the historical inaccuracies but the fact that they whitewashed the main character. The real Henk Rogers is Dutch born and very obviously of South Asian heritage, Indonesian to be exact. It’s just baffling to me that in 2023 we’re still casting white actors as real POC historical figures
I hesitate to believe that "lady fight club" is an apt description, given that Fight Club is an examination and deconstruction of toxic masculinity and corporate culture.
As a fan of the Evil Dead franchise I was excited that they were making a new one but was really disappointed when I saw that it was going to be a serious horror movie. Like, why not follow the formula of the original 3 and have this one be the less-serious one?
