But NOW since i have been watching your vids i finally enjoy it again( also makes my wife Happy as well) . Thank you. Also Love it when your dog is there helping too.😁😁
Wow thanks! I'm glad and flattered I could be an inspiration! One of my favorite guys I ever worked for was from Germany so some of my tricks come from the old country! 😃 Good luck with your projects bud!
Thank you for your this. My father in law was a French polisher by trade. As a hobby he refurbished ercol pieces for use again. And some old oak tables. He died sadly last week and I want to continue with the work as a hobby as an apprentice. So I am needing.lots of help to get me started on a kitchen drop leaf ercol table. Many thanks. You are a proper craftsman. Respect Sir.
Unbelievable beauty and workmanship. The table never looked as beautiful when new. You are a master of your craft. This masterpiece belongs in a museum. Thanks for a great video.
You matched the original add-on leaf ! Mahogany (brown or red) tone is often used bring red to cherry wood furniture. I have a cheery desk and bedroom furniture that color.
Oh, you are so smart. I'm watching little details. I like your system for cutting your sandpaper. I have never thought of that. You could even add a ruler on there, if you needed a certain size, like I do with my palm sander. I usually just trace the previous piece. I like your idea better! Thanks!👍
Oh my, this looks amazing! I'm watching videos on how to stain a table and whatnot as I just thrifted a table of about this one's color (but much smaller, only a bit over 4 feet long and it's round). Thankfully, the bottom half is wrought iron, so I don't need to do anything there, but the top has yellow marks on it and maybe a few small chips. The chips I can deal with...the yellow markings, I cannot and it's a pretty table that doesn't deserve to be hidden with a table cloth, lol. So, as one who has absolutely never done something like this before...I'm scared but I'm determined to learn! Thank you for the video and again, very beautiful result :)
@@newplayer5433 I decided I actually could put up with the table, lol. At least for now. Placemats can cover the worst of it. Hello, I am going to restore my dining table and changing the color from brown to dark walnut, I stripped the table surface, but what you will recommend me to do if I don't want to strip the 4 chairs? if I can paint them with a similar color paint? Thanks.
Great video, wish I had the confidence to do this myself. Can I ask what something like this would cost? I have similar table and 8 chairs that have been in the family many years. I live in Scottsdale, Az. Thank you.
I bought a maple kitchen oval table with 6 chairs for $100. The new furniture I bought is dark brown to black. The table has spilled paint on the top. I was thinking of scraping the paint off and cleaning it with TSP and finishing with brown/black chalk paint and use spray cans of matt polyurethane finish What are your thoughts
1 million and one for wood but I have been online for a couple hours trying to find a restoration of an acrylic coffee table. They show how to make acrylic top but not change/paint/restore a top “sigh” me a link I would appreciate it thanks in advance 😊 Great job on the table too, very nice!!
I don't know if this is an appropriate, but how much did you charge them ? I have a table similar and it needs to be rescued big time. I'm trying to find out what's a good fair price to pay.
Yes and no. I'm not much of a painter but I would think by now there is a pretty good selection of self sealing paints a topcoat wouldn't be necessary. I'd suggest checking out your local paint store and seeing if they have anything that'd suit your needs!
Very nice finish!!! I have an antique oak table I want to refinish. It has been stripped but there are some water marks I'll need to remove first. I've never used oxalic acid before any advice??
Thanks! Depending on how bad they are I always try streaming and sanding them out before bleaching. If you do go the acid route just make sure it's all neautralized before any finishing. Good luck!
Love your work. I was wondering if you could recommend a stain that is close to Ethan Allen #214 wheat. I am trying to refinish a bench to somewhat match a dresser I have in that color. I tried Touch Up Solutions but they don’t have stain. Can you recommend a stain that I could use? Thanks.
Honestly, I wouldn't be able to. Just looking at a stain color sample on the internet looks different than real life and will look different on different wood species and how it's applied and everything. My best advice is to find a stain close to it and buy a few and mix them until you can just make your own and do samples on your specific piece til it matches. That's what I would do. I like varathane stains. They seem to look and work much better than minwax. Best of luck to you!
Lacquer dries too fast to brush. I am about to post a video using two different finishes I brush. I highly recommend them. Keep an eye out for the video!
After your stained it you then used sandpaper. What grit and why did you use sandpaper? I want to refinish my table and trying to learn how to do it correctly. Great job by the way!!
Five coats is way too many. More coats doesn't equal better, in this case it can actually weaken the finish. How are you applying your finish? What does one coat mean to you? A rough finish tells me you're not spraying a heavy enough coat and it's drying too quickly. The roughness is overspray. There are so many different factors to spraying lacquer and they are constantly changing. I wouldn't recommend it for beginners if that applies to you. Hope some of that makes sense and helps you out!
The tinted lacquer is just to add a touch of color. I also use this any time I didn't think the stain turned out the way I wanted or to hide some some minor blemishes, etc.
Hello, I don't know if you reply, but I am here in Texas and trying to repairing my table for my daughter's 25 birthday party. This is the second 'foot' that has broken and in attempting to fix it, I noticed that another one had broken on the other end. As I was taking it apart and to repair it, I think I may have discovered what the problem is. But I don't know how to fix it (or not sure) or even what these parts are called. My dinning room table seats 12, so it's large, and has two pedestal 'legs' on it. Each leg has three arched shaped feet with brass covers on the tips. The feet are attached with a three pronged metal bracket on the bottom and a metal 'slide' attached to the foot that allows it slide into a fitted metal insert bracket on the leg. What I have discovered is that several of the 'metal slides' just slip right out so all the weight of the table is on the foot and bottom bracket and not supported by being anchored in the slide.on the leg. We do move our table around a lot when entertaining, remodeling, redecorating etc, but we try to be extra careful with the feet. But obviously with three broken feet, we have some issues. So I am wondering if you are familiar with these brackets/slides and if you know where I can purchase new ones OR fix the existing ones so the legs don't slip out when pressure is applied. liked the video. i have a solid acacia wood table that was fininshed with mineral oil. can i strip the mineral oil off and apply a polyurethane finish to it?
No I wouldn't recommend it. Those types of wood are usually oiled. If you want an oil with a bit of a finish quality try something like a Tung oil. Waterlox is a great product. I would sand it to freshen it up then oil it up again with several coats.

Spectacular results! I would have liked more discussion of what products you used, or (if you want to stay proprietary) at least a discussion regarding how to think about what products to use.
