This was more nuanced than the title suggested. Food for thought.

Clickbait title with scare tactic thumbnail, but I get it--it's TH-cam, got me to click expecting to hear some stats or something that supported it, and I kept watching...waiting for them. I agree with what you're saying minus the title of the video--ABS is not "silently killing motorcyclists."🤷‍♂

I appreciate your understanding. With hundreds thousands of videos posted a day, I wouldn’t get anywhere without a touch of hyperbole. I do my best to make sure that I’m delivering content that people expect, as I want you to be able to trust me, but at times I do try out a title that’s a bit bigger than the video. Thanks for joining the community!
Also, I do stand by my point in a way - the unknowing adoption of ABS may be tricking riders into hurting themselves when riding a bike without it, and there will never be data to prove my point, hence the silence. But your right - ABS systems aren’t sneaking into your house at night to take you out 😁

I switch back and forth between my 2017 BMW R9T and my mid 1980s BMW R100RT which I have run for over 30 years. After riding the R9T, when I get back on the 84, I need to be very conscious of its poorer acceleration, brakes and cornering ability relative to the more powerful, better braking (even without ABS) and more aggressive steering geometry of the newer Beemer. There have been a few times I struggled with a curve or stopping in time because I was operating the older bike within the parameters the new bike can easily handle but which far exceed that of the older machine.

Well said. That must be a ton of fun having two boxers, decades apart. Do they feel similar at all or like completely different bikes? I’ve got an ‘81 R65 but haven’t ridden the new ones.

@@JacobBaldry completely different. But I still love the old airhead.

Motojitsu has always been really vocal about the need for all riders to understand the (i guess you'd call it?) pressure gradient of their brakes, since usually with proper technique the systems barely kick in , bar some more sensitive wet weather modes you may find on cruisers of adv bikes

Yeah, full stop in the rain with knobbies is the exception the the rule for sure haha

(TH-cam stopped notifying me when you post, even tho I have post notifications on. This is the second time in a row. I hope it's just happening to me and doesn't affect your view count)
Also nice to see a switch up with the content

Well my guy, maybe it‘s more a problem caused by the riders, not informing themselves about the bikes they‘re riding, than ABS itself. I am by far not a fan of all the new unnecessary tech they try selling to you as essential improvements (riding a 10 and a 30yr old bike, both without ABS) and I doubt anything techwise can save a bad/unresponsible rider, but ABS is that one thing that actually does improve safety. But still it‘s more up to the rider.

If you slam on your brakes hard and rely on the ABS to do the maths for you, it isn't the ABS that's killing you, it's good old fashioned stupidity. In normal riding, your ABS should never cut in at all. It is there when all else fails, like the lifejacket under your seat in an aeroplane.

great explanation, keep up the good work!
ABS saved my slow beginner butt a couple of times in the city when cars overbraked at intersections and I had to swerve in the wet to tuck inbetween lanes
Would not take any chance in riding a non-ABS bike in any damp-ish weather before much practice in full dry
👍 very useful info for riders of all experience levels, thanks!

"IIHS tracks rider death via motorcyle, ommiting rider history and other external factors, causing unnecessary deaths to be blindly blamed solely on the lack of optional braking-aid systems at the time of incident, so I've summarized what you can do to minimize your chances of injury" didn't have the same ring to it.
