    I just spent a chunk of my afternoon watching all of these videos. I absolutely love Seiko watch design from the seventies. Some think they're funky or retro, but I think they're straight beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing.

    Excellent video. Thanks for sharing your collection. I love all the funky 70's design. I have a small collection of about 5 watches in similar styles. I love these watches and they are rather sentimental for me. My dad used to wear a 6119-5400 for years that I'm still lucky enough to have. Growing up I was fascinated with his watch and would play with it every chance I got, So whenever I see these funky designs they always bring a smile to my face. Again thanks for sharing.

    Mate, your vids have been a great help with fixing my beloved seikos, mostly divers, but the square dx in blue is awesome on wrist. Guess what i just bought? Never wouldve considered it before watching these 3 vids. Thanks mike, opened my mind.

    It's been real nice going through these videos. One thing's for sure, so many good choices everywhere over here in the Philippines for vintage Seiko watches lol. Most if not every watch tech here knows how to service a Seiko. Cool that you have a friend from here sending you some good pieces.

    I like 👍 the second watch over, up front (from left to right). It looks so much like 👍 a Lorus watch I bought around mid 1984. My Lorus had a blue dial, luminous hands and dial markers, day/date feature, and a glass crystal. It had a black rubber wristband. Your friend, Jeff.

    I really like the 6119-5440 as the dial reminds me of Star Wars going into light speed with the stars as the indices stretching and giving a cool effect. Thanks for your videos! The 70s sure had groovy far out designs that are still remarkable today as they stand out and make you take notice. It is awesome that you can bring them back from poor condition to the great condition they are now. Oh and I did watch all 3 videos. I particularly liked the brilliant electric blue from the 2nd video.

    I am going to add to my collection of Raketa vintage watches with the handwinding 2609 ha movements. They do bizarre TV shaped watches with unusual dials. They are cheap, reliable and easy to regulate and fix.
    I prefer handwinding over automatics that don't handwind like the Shakeos you are showing there.

    I found a Seiko Bell-Matic 4006-7010 at an estate sale for 3 bob! It's a 27 jeweler from 1968 and runs like a champ. All it needed was a tidy up and a different band. The band that was on it was a broken Speidel, so I was watching your videos to see what Seiko bands are out there; although I didn't see any of the rice or coffin link types. I've got a citizen band on it now that looks well enough.

      From memory a Belmatic looks like this one. Hope it helps.

    Great video. I did stay till the end. I was wondering how many weird watches seiko made over the years? I mean, there's the flight master or the mile marker. I'm sure there must be more unique ones. Do you know of a video that show cases them?

    • @MyRetroWatches

      No idea. Seiko has 10,000s of models really and ones for different continents . I find 70s watches in Europe that are not in Japan and vice versa then there is South Asia which again have some interesting designs you don’t see elsewhere.

    Love these. Happened upon them on ebay and found the genre spoke to me as the designer took risks releasing some of these watches to the public. Seems like watches like Nixon have taken some of the ideas and incorporated them into their modern surf oriented watches.

      Money doesn't dictate having style and taste. Also, money cannot buy a sense of style and taste. I would go for these over most watches priced in the thousands. They've been tested by time.

    Your 6119-5460 is very interesting. I have my fathers 6106-5529 which is a DX model from 73. Same case, same dial (but all gold) but different movement. Mine is all original and the bracelet is folded/pressed and your looks to be solid links. So odd, the 5 model had a higher jewel count movement and a solid bracelet, yet the DX line was positioned above the 5's in terms of pricing

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are many versions of this watch. I have seen gold ones that dont look as well built and others that do. Seiko seemed to put many different movements in the same cases. The DX line I would not consider that different from a 5. the only difference is DX had 6106 movements which had hacking. Hacking is a simple lever addition to stop the escape when the crown was pulled. 6106 is a modified version of the 6119.

    what's funny with these watches is that they are more beautiful than new models but they are more obsolete than the new ones. i mean obsolete in terms WR and quality bands. they really were made for "use it and throw it when it's dead" people. new models look horrible but they are tougher and good WR. i would've loved to see old Seiko 5 watches with good WR and better bands. they simply would be the best. even more when you can find some with 6119 movement. i'd like to see Seiko make audacious design like back then again. i feel like we had more choices back then.
