    I've bought two vintage Seikos this year and I have to say, I'm also hooked. I have very slim wrists so a lot of the vintage watch sizes suit me.

      Since my last comment I now have a third vintage watch, an excellent condition gold 9940-8010. Engraving on the back says it's a corporate gift from the Chiba Housing Supply Corp.
      I love all the different designs, Seiko is definitely one of those brands that seems to have a watch for every taste.

    I used to only be interested in Swiss watches; but since I've subscribed to your channel (and looking at other videos on TH-cam) I've become a real fan of Seiko (and other Japanese makers). As such, many thanks for tuning me into Seiko as they've made some wonderful watches.

    A really fantastic collection.. Futuristic, wonderfull & extremely varied with many very beautiful examples.. You can see the design throughout the whole range something that shines through from the Seiko 5's to the king seiko's of the past & the grand seiko's of the present. Thank you for showing your collection. Seiko are so undervalued..

    I don't know a ton about watches, but it seems like older seikos really mastered that 70's flash, without stepping over the line into obnoxious.
    I have a couple advans I get compliments on all the time.
    There is a Citizen I saw with a similar aesthetic (that'll probably be my 4th watch purchase), but (imo) the seikos pull it off more often.

    Hi there. I’m a little late to the party but glad I found this video. At a local thrift store I came across the same watch as one in your case. I believe it is the #11 that you viewed. Thank you for your comment Brad. I am happy to read you liked this video in particular. Part 2 is coming soon! as for sourcing bracelets I just ask and email everyone I know. use web forums to put out a parts request and my / other Facebook groups. It can take a long time, 6 months being the longest but eventually you can get lucky. I email ebay sellers allot as traders like Thewatchcollector in the Philippines does not list all of his stuff. I show them pictures of what I am looking for. This is the only way I think to just reach out to everyone and anyone. I can only wish you luck.

    That’s a serious 🧐 collection, there. I hope 🤞 to hit some thrift stores 🏬, because I do find people’s great 😊 stuff there. This is another way of giving away unwanted stuff, such as a move, or if the person is deceased. I’d really like to know a few other places where to get such great 👍 watches. Even if these were mass produced at the time (but I don’t know), these are way better than today’s super mass produced watches (more so mass produced). Attention definitely went into detail with your watches. They were (and always will be) always a watch that anybody will be proud 🥹 wearing. Your friend, Jeff.

    Great collection and looks like the collection I had when I got fascinated with retro looking watches that were coming out in the early 90s. So back then many were not collecting these prizes and would find on eBay for under $50. on eBay. When I get into things I go all the way and love retro things to collect.
    So I would find these old Seikos at flea markets and thrift store and around year 2000. I ended up with about around 30 and they were all over in various drawers got out of control bc I was also collecting the new watches that were going retro from brands like Citizen and Spoon, which I believe was made by Seiko. Oh and Seiko made these chunky square retro looking watches also.
    Unfortunately I ended up loosing many in storage and by theft and had many that you have with the thick faces or rims. I even had one that were really special that I didn’t see on your collection.
    Now that others are getting into this hobby, you have more competition and with that the prices have gone up. So after about 10 years, I’m starting to look for vintage seikos bc there seems to be plenty and since the watch culture died after the Apple Watch, there’s more inventory out there.
    I’m sure there are ppl. that collect Rolex, Omega and other high end brands, but Seiko quality is very good and other Japanese brands. So it’s a more affordable hobby and if you know how to restore them, even better bc many don’t and once it’s in bad shape, they as very little for it.
    So I just restarted this passion for Japanese brands and starting with old Seiko digital watches. I already bought 3 and today was going to buy another one and the model that came out in 76 and the first chrono Seiko put out. I was all excited bc the bid started on eBay at $52. and thought to myself, how great to have that watch after learning about just yesterday. But someone else got it and I figured bc others were listing the same iconic watch for $500.
    Also, that’s great that you know places that sells new covers and can’t think of the name. Bc i always felt with the decline watch stores and repair store in America, I figured that was impossible. Oh and I’ve always loved the jewel crystals.

      Pt. 2
      Hopefully collecting old watches will catch on to keep it going. And wish more places open up to restore watches. This actually would be a great new business to restore old watches and sell and trade them, like they do with classic cars. Everything else like vintage hi fi equipment and record collecting is back, so I’m sure anything that was extremely popular in the past, will come back.
      Oh and I’ve also notice many retro watches being sold and restored from India and the Philippines. But also heard that many of those sold have old parts inside from other watches and not original. And they use after market new faces to make them look new. So I guess there are new after market part being made for these watches cans someone saw a new market.
      Anyway, I enjoyed your video and going to subscribed.

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your comment, the digital Seiko is a 0634- there were 3 models the 5001, 5009 and the iconic 5019 I have all 3 and actually done a video ages ago on the module. These go for good money now as the online community as massive and more awareness for these means more people looking for them.
      The hobbyist watchmaking is now bigger than it was when I started in 2016. I think people like me and others who show how to work on watches on TH-cam has brought many more to the hobby. Thanks for your subscription.

    I am interested in 7006 Seiko models. Not Seiko 5 with 7006 but rather ordinary Seiko models. Very durable calibers when properly serviced and maintained. Better than most today's movements. I don't know why but they're rock solid. Beautiful collection btw.

  • @tutubi
    @tutubi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was researching my late grandfather's watch and found your video. It's a Seiko 5 6119-5431 made in June of 1973, so same as the first watch of your collection, only with a white clock face. It would need some restoration to get back to its former glory, especially on the white clock face which shows some slightly damaged areas. It's nice to know that this watch made you start your whole collection and you did an excellent job restoring it. In fact, just seeing how it came out makes me want to see my grandpa's watch shine again. In my case I have zero experience, so it's better for this watch if I stay humble and just take it to a shop. Maybe I could start tinkering with a watch I'm less attached to...
    The main time mechanism and the date are working fine, while the space where the day of the week should be indicated is white, as if it was stuck between two days. Do you know how to change the day on this model? I read that the date on 6119 A/B models needs to be set by moving the hands 24 hours, while on 6119 C the crown needs to be pushed--as with the date, only deeper--but I don't know which sub-model this one is. Neither method seems to affect this particular mechanism at all, confirming its likely damage, but it would be nice to know anyway, and I just may try again before sending it in for repair. The bracelet lock seems to be firmly stuck too, but I suppose it can be salvaged.

Its a whole new complexity and was hoping to learn the movement confidently and then to film for the channel however it has a broken chrono wheel which is so far being very difficult to locate a spare without buying a whole donor watch.

      I have a donor watch.
      Shoot me an email at atomicskuff@yahoo.com and I will ship it to you.
      You can take out what you need and send back the rest. The cenrtal axis has already been removed.

      Mr. X really? I am looking for the main chrono wheel

      @@MyRetroWatches
      Yes.
      The central axis that has the seconds wheel is missing. Other than that it should be all there, including the part your looking for. I can either send you the donor watch asap or have the watchmaker remove the part in mid September.

    Wow, really nice ones! Sold on the blue dials also... :) Had to buy the new Turtle, save the ocean, Great White Shark edition when I saw it, best looking watch I've owned! =) I hope it becomes a classic one day, wait, I'm sure of it! =)

      I love those save the ocean Seikos. My issue is I am more into the vintage than the modern. Vintage has more charm and tend to be very cheap in comparison.

    • @42Hertzer
      @42Hertzer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MyRetroWatches Yes, sure can see the charm with the vintage ones! There is quite a lot of flea markets around here, only managed to find one older Seiko, a Quarts, swapped in a new battery, ordered a new crystal and polished the case. Unfortunately it had a white dial but worked fine until the metal ring holding the crystal decided to pop out. Never found the rinag and crystal again! Thankfully I got it for next to nothing since it looked so worn. =)

    Just came across the channel, as someone who loves vintage Seikos, this is amazing, well done on all the great work.
    1) where can I find a good vintage seiko watch auction in London
    2) what does the jewel count represent
    Thanks in advance

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, I have no idea about London. Nearly all my Seiko have come from eBay or the Birmingham watch fair.
      Jewel count just represents areas that have been jewelled with synthetic rubies to reduce friction. a 1 jewel movement would not be considered quality however a 30 jewel movement is over jewelled playing on the idea that more jewels are somehow better. 15-24 jewels in an automatic movement is all you need.

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, this was filmed over a year ago and since then my collection has grown further although not so many Seikos. I have aspired to the Pogue and the Bullhead. The Pogue I made my own a few months ago of which there is a video on this channel. The Bullhead I have just acquired, a brown dial version which was the one I wanted. It needs quite a bit of work but I will look forward to restoring that one. most of my collection can be seen here www.myretrowatches.co.uk

    hey great video, awesome collection. i recently bought a watch which resembles the 6309-5650 or the 6319-6020, the case back says that its a 6309-5100 but it looks nothing like a 5100, is it a fake or just the wrong caseback?

      Wow a grand Seiko! lovely things and so much better made. I have never worked on one and would be fearful to given the value of them. My advise would be to try to work on one of the movements I have covered here on the channel as that way at least you have a guide that may help you. Best of luck.

    Very interesting and certainly an educative clip. Btw as per your experience is the Seiko 6119 much superior in every aspect to the 6619/6309/7005 & 7625. Your honest opinion please which is very much appreciated....

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just like the 6119. To me its a more solid movement. the 6309 is a major workhorse though. the 7### were all much simpler to service as there are less parts.
