    Great video. I have like 10 cherry tomato plants that are thriving right now. Been giving them away to everyone.

      @@MyTexasYard thank you! I would love that because I’m a new gardener and not someone who grew up in Texas. I have a lot to learn about growing year round veggies/fruits.

    Paul says to put your organic fertilizer down in the fall, or now. So it will have time for the microbes to make it available to the plants.

      That makes sense. I have many compost piles around the garden that I will spread out soon.

    Ok..here is one for ya...Great.grand.daughter and i planted.carrots 2 YEARS AGO..they finally flowered...but will those seeds be worth saving? First time ive ever had any actually start so well...

      If the carrots that are flowering are a hybrid variety, they probably are not worth saving. If they are a heirloom variety, they should be good to save.

    Hi, I’m wondering about the location of your garden, is it south facing? I don’t see any tree coverage for shade, does your garden get any shade?

    • @MyTexasYard
      @MyTexasYard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s kind of in a U shape along my back and side fence. I have an apple and a peach tree at what would be the tips of the U. Most of it does not have any shade from trees. But I try to keep it densely planted so the soil does not receive much direct Sun light.

    Thank you for sharing. I recently bought a house in Austin with a big backyard. I am wondering what can I grow since we are already into the winter? Should I get my raised bed now or just wait until the spring?

    • @MyTexasYard
      @MyTexasYard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time to plant a tree is right now.
      The same goes for a garden. The sooner you start working on your soil the better. You can make a lot of compost between now and spring. Lettuces and leafy greens are probably your best bet if you want to plant right now.
      But if you are starting from scratch, just focusing on spring planting is probably a good idea. Come Mid Jan I will be starting my tomatoes and peppers from seed indoors.

      I already bought a tiny lemon tree and I currently just keep it indoor since it’s still a young plant. Are you planting any trees?

    I'm in NW Central Louisiana. Do you break off the asparagus next to the crown? Paul in a video says it will produce a new shoots. If you just cut it off at ground level the crown thinks the shoot you cut is still there.

    • @MyTexasYard
      @MyTexasYard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe once it goes dormant in winter it does not matter if you break it off at the crown or cut it at ground level. I believe Paul was talking about during the growing season.
      Mine were pretty much dead or dying, and when I pulled on them they broke off at the crown. So that worked out well.

      @@MyTexasYard Copied his video where he starts talking about harvesting asparagus. I was referring to the growing season. Not winter time. th-cam.com/video/v33t1mJCzfg/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=L2Survive

    • @MyTexasYard
      @MyTexasYard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I try to do it like he suggests. But it does not always break off at the crown.
      I’m from the Bossier Louisiana area originally, it’s a lot different growing there compared to central TX.

    I'm growing tomatoes in the Gulf Coast area and I am being taken over by stink bugs. Do you have any suggestions on how to get rid of them? Neem and organic pesticides are not working.

    • @MyTexasYard
      @MyTexasYard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can depend on what type of garden you have. If you have a smaller garden with raised beds, I’ve heard of people using a hand vacuum or shop vac to suck the bugs up.
      I have a larger in ground garden that i have let the food chain develop over time. Leaving all aphids and other “pests” to run their course has been my plan. It can be frustrating letting bugs eat your crops, but I believe it is starting to pay off for me. I have a large predator bug population that I believe helps control the overall bug population.
      That being said, I like physical removal, vacuum or sticky pet roller for dealing with huge infestations of large bugs.
