Man, you made that look easy. I have removed half the insulation on my HotSprings spa the past few days, for the life of me I cannot find the leak. The foam was so full of water, everywhere I go the bottom 6 inches or so are wet. It seems like all the water I am finding is just that coming out of the foam, because its all cold.
Mr. Spa Man your video was an excellent tutorial on how to fix a leak! As a women I am going to try and succeed to fix my leak. Thank you for posting!!!!
I will be starting my own hunt for a leak - multiple leaks I suspect. This is very helpful - thanks! Do you have any advice on the best way to replace all the insulation that is removed? Cheers!
Thank you very much for sharing all your expertise, I am currently repairing my 20-year-old Sundance hot tub which has a leak in the diverter valve, so basically digging out all the insulation and hunting the leak, and your video has been extremely helpful. I do it without cutting/removing the lines. Most times you can get in there enough to back off the large nut holding the jet all the way off. Large oil filter plyers will often work great or sometimes a flat head screwdriver and a small hammer to tap it loose then push the jet body forward and remove the old seal and clean up any silicone front and back. Resilicone in the bather area with a marine grade silicone and push the jet back in. Then silicone the back side and tighten the large nut. JMO
Great vid!!! You have motivated me to fix my hot tub. Thank you. One question, what type of spray foam do you use to replace the foam that was removed? Do you have a vid on that process/job?
The hot tub place that sold us our Hot Spring tub will charge $3000 to find and fix the leak. UMMM, no thanks. SO thank you for this video. You just gave me the confidence to just get at it myself and fix it myself. I will make my wife proud. LOL. I DREAD it, but I'm going to tackle this myself. Thanks.
Do you have any videos where you repair a jet that has the ribbed flex pipe that fits inside the pvc jet body?(not clamped but glued) I have a small drip leak beteeen the hose anf jet body>
I had a Jacuzzi Tirage about 25 years ago and the installed the spray insulation with a plastic bag against the tub and piping which made removal very easy. Just wiggle the bundle and it came out and was molded to match the shape of the piping. I am in the process of repairing a leak on my Hot Springs hot tub and it is a nightmare trying to remove the insulation. I thought I would have been better off buying another Jacuzzi brand but they evidently now spray the insulation like everybody else making it a nightmare not to mention having to purchase and install new spay foam. The old way, you could re-use the insulation because it would remain dry cause it was wrapped in plastic. I guess progress or more accurately cost savings on the manufacturers partscreates a nightmare for us the consumers.
I have the identical hot tub but the leak was the filter well. Should I removal ALL wet insulation that I encounter? Including all the wet insulation on the bottom of the tub?
I’ve been searching for a leak myself. My 2020 Hot Springs Grandee sprung a leak and NOBODY will touch it. Not even the Hot Springs dealer. It’s out of warranty because I bought I from a friend a few months old. I’m having a hell of a time finding the leak. I wish there was a reputable guy like you here in California.
This is one of the reasons I started the TH-cam channel several years ago... Some Manufactures as well as dealers suck...And I hate to say it but when it comes to a leak in a Hot Springs Good luck (And I don't mean that in a bad way)Hot Spring is the one and only Hot Tub that I have never ever been able to fix the leak in...I could find it but was never able to fix it long term. let me tell you a little story ..my ten year old son would use our HotSprings Grandee to swim in all the time...The catch was he had to add a gallon of water every day or I told him it was going be be emptied ..I tried to fix the leak for over a year and then it would leak again and again. At the time I was working out of my back yard while remodeling my shop and had 8 plus spas for sale at my home, A customer came to buy a spa and out of every spa I had he wanted mine with the leak and was willing to pay a lot of money for it because it was a Hot Springs..no matter what I told him he would not change his mind... So I sold it to him and delivered it and set it all up..It now been nine years and it still leaks a gallon or two a day has went through several pumps and one heater two covers and several jets...we placed it on the grass because of the leak and the grass stays green all the way around the tub and that customer is happier then a Pig in SHIT... Go figure The sides have been removed and put back on several times and he has tried every thing to fix the leak and has never been able to and has said that there are several more but one stops for a while and another one starts up ...One day I know I will be hauling it to the dump and Ill bet it is going to weight a ton because of all the water soaked up in the wood... Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING( My son is 19 now)
While Hot Springs does generally have a great reputation I won’t buy one. I’ve talked to numerous techs that won’t touch Hot Springs. They won’t even pick them up for free as they are too much of a hassle to deal with. When they leak they are a nightmare to pinpoint where it’s coming from.
Hey Spa Man, Ith the heat wave we've had here in the valley this year, my spa water heated up higher than it ever has before. The thermometer showed 110 at one point. I dumped the water and refilled with cooler tap water. After the water heater up so much, I now have a leak I didn't have prior. Is it possible the heat caused a crack or possibly expanded a joint causing this leak? If so, how likely, is it that there may be several places that now leak? Thanks, Steve in Chandler.
Thank you for a very inormative video! I was wondering if you happen to offer zoom or FaceTime consultations? I currently have a spa open with most of the insulation out but I have plastic tubing and connectors. I would love some advice on how to proceed. Thank you!
Im not sure what panel you are talking about. if you are talking about the side panels they have wood screws every 10 inch or so.. Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING
I know the full foam insulation supposedly is much better at insulating and gives some support, but damn... I can't imagine what a nightmare this makes complicated repair jobs. They have to have a better way of building these that gives some access for repairs.
gREAT vIDEO!!! However i have a few questions, specifically about the part where you throueougly explain how to use your call... You mentioned rubbing your calk and so i was wondering if yoiu apply a lot of pressuree as you are rubbing it or is it more of a gentle pressure as your rubbing it? now as far as the old rubber goes, i was always taught to use a new one, are you sure that even though it isnt crusty that there might be some unwated residue on a previousdly used rubber? just seems unsafe ... I can totally relate to my calk also causing a mess afterwards however , ibut assuming that you will be spending quite som,e time masteringt yourr calk. It may be may enviromentally friendly to use a sock each time your calk makes a mess rather than wasting any paper towels or so...that way your wife wont complain about a bunch of paper towels all over the place either you know. Anyways, again, i really appreciate the detailed dcalk talk and just want to encourage others learn how to use your calk so it dfoesnt just sit there and get hard without amyome getting to enjoy the many places you could ave used it or helped another person with itnyways, again, i really appreciate the detailed dcalk talk and just want to encourage others learn how to use your calk so it dfoesnt just hang there and get hard without anyome getting to enjoy the many places you could ave used it or helped another person with it
Same here for a roto molded spa so I have to get underneath it. There are rectangular designated areas but is that enough room for me to reach in, pull the soft insulation out, wet of course, and be able to get my hands in there to get at the job. I know from draining it and stopping just at the bottom of the first row of jets that one of those 5 jets is leaking or more?? Once I dropped the water level just below the first row of jets and left it over night, the next morning the dripping had stopped. So that narrows down the task a bit. I have it jacked up 8 inches high. I have to tilt it on its side next to get at the underneath. Thanks for this video. I have been googling to find as many youtube spa repair people to help me along. cheers from Atlantic Canada, province of Prince Edward Island.
Ive done several like that over the years and it is possible it just take time to figure out a way to get it done... sometimes I've had to remove several other parts to get at the part that is leaking...keep me posted as to how it goes for you... Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

Thank for the in-depth video on this tedious repair. Can you please send the name or the link for the spray foam with the really high R rating that you use at Home Depot, I would appreciate it?
I have a 20 something year old dimensions one hot tub. I'd like to replace it with a large, mid price range 220 V unit. Do you have a recommendation or physical store I can visit?
Your videos are so helpful, thank you! We have a J465 with a leaky LED Jet, think it’s called a powerpro IX jet. Heard it’s a common problem but cannot find a video tutorial anywhere. If you happen to have one that you fixed any advice or video would be great.
Thank you for the great video. I definitely feel confident in tackling my leak. One question….. can “great stuff” be used to fill in the foam insulation??? Once again… thank you
I've been leaning towards avoiding one of these foam insulation hot tubs. I am thinking about getting a tub with the foam that is easily removable. Would you recommend that. Or is this foam not too bad?
That DAP silicone says "not for underwater use". I was out looking for silicone this weekend to fix a skimmer assembly and couldn't find any at the big box stores that claimed they were rated for underwater use. I ordered some Boss 801 off of amazon which is indeed underwater rated. Still need to finish that repair.
Ive been using the same product for years now with no problems ever...Tried the Boss 801 and had issues with the way it sets up and I didn't like the way it cured. Good luck and Please let me know how it works and what state you are from as wells your air temp the day you are doing the repair. Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING
@@spaman5440 I kind of wondered how much it really mattered lol. I did the repair the other day with the 801. Didn't have any issues yet, but still giving it a few days to cure before I refill the tub. Supposed to cure in 24 hours but I'm over cautious lol. Hopefully I won't have any issues with it as it will be a real PITA to redo. I'm in Minnesota where it's currently fairly warm... 70s-90s.
You seemed to skip how to remove the nut and how to re-tighten the nut. These are the two things I actually need to know. Hopefully there is another TH-cam video that shows this.
Hey Spa Guy any tips for removing the sides on a Beachcomber 160 it's got the t&g slats that wrap all the way around with no visible screws. I used the tips in this video to fix one leak but there's more that I can't access 🙁
Dude I feel your pain..They are really tough to remove with out doing damage to the siding..when Ive had to remove them I start in the corner and work my way around.sometime I been lucky and none were damaged other times not so lucky. there really is no good way you just have to do what works best for you. Go to Amazon .com and type in the type of jet you have ( some place on the jet or the housing there should be a number ..Hope that Helps Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING
At around the 3 minute Mark you show why looks like a plastic washer that has split, did you replace that washer, not use it when repairing or reuse it and the caulking/gasket sealed everything. I have the same issue on my jacuzzi and wondering if I need a new self leveling plastic washer or not!
I can't remember what I did with this one... Everyone I do is never like the last one....And this one was done some 7 months ago and over 100 tubs ago...S0 if they have a crack and when Im dry fitting everything and it doesn't look right I will replace with a new or good used one and then seal everything up...#1 Pro tip ..Do a good job getting it clean , seal it up with a good caulk and let it dry over night ... Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING
PS. So you refill the foam into the empty area now, or leave it open?. Or use some other type of insulation. IE in New England it's cold so what do you suggest. Thank you again.
If you need information on a Spa manufacture or Spa model ...I would call the shop and talk with Scott...certain companies he dose not like because there customer service is not what he calls user friendly..Some do not have the heart of a teacher and he feel they should.
That is a very unusual woodworking rasp. The one with the deep teeth. Did your Dad give you that one also? I couldn’t find one like it online. It is pretty cool. Looks like we are remodeling our bathroom. Our tiled shower is definitely leaking but I’m hoping the jets just needed tightening on the garden tub. Thanks for the post. Blessings!
Hey man seriously use a butter knife. I use one every time and it is the best tool for this situation, and it will not cut any hoses or damage the spa, but it does cut through the foam like butter lol Pun intended.😂😂👌👌👌
Hey, Scott. Love all of your videos. I had a question on this one. When you hand tighten the nut on the back of the jet housing, do you put a bead of silicon between the nut and the back of tub basin? I see other videos on the same topic that do this which seems to glue the nut into place on the back of the tub. Whoever put the jet housings in that I'm replacing clearly gooped up the back (which made getting the old jets out a chore). You didn't mention or show this in the video, and it did not appear to have silicon oozing out the backside in your video. Seems after your explanation, the seal on both sides of the gasket are the only thing you need. Wrench tighten the nut 180-360 degrees after 24 hours to tighten it all down (no extra silicon needed). Hopefully you see this question and can respond. Thanks for the help. You are the man!
Just finished installing. I couldn't wait for for a response so just assumed I do not need to add silicon between the nut and the back of the tub basin. It worked perfectly. No leaks! Thanks for the video, Scott.
We have the ECCO B570 model hot tub and found leaks from the bottom of the tub. I am not able to find any spa repair center in Ohio. Can you please help me with this?

Kind of in a round about way...(YES)This was a hot tub that we took in on trade... When we removed it form the former owners home it had several problems,,, All three motors and pumps needed to be rebuilt as well as the circulation pump.. After fixing all of that we filled the tub up with water and found out it had three leaks and the water feature didn't work. We fixed all the leak and water feature , replaced all the head cushions built a New Spa Cover with cover lift. It was SOLD before we even had it in our shop to complete all of the needed repairs after finishing all of the work it was moved to its new home and as far as I know is still working to this day... Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING
Ugh, This means I'm going to have to take the sides off the tub or something. Mine's a 40-year-old hand-me-down and sides are nailed on, I don't know if they do that on the newer ones.
Depending on the Hot Tub they are made several different ways over the years...take your time and you will see its not that hard of a job.. Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

@@spaman5440 I’m trying! It’s a D1 Nautilus and after checking components and realizing it wasn’t there found evidence (wet paper covering foam). It’s on the filter side and so the foam is dry up by the filter but soaking wet nearer to bottom. Hopefully will get a little further today :/.

I have been trying to find the leak in our Hot Tub and keep coming up empty handed. I have tried your advice but just cannot find it. We have a Dream Maker II that is just a little over two years old now and been chasing this leak for more than a year now. Can this unit be placed on the side to make it easier to look under it or do I have to do something else? I see that your in Arizona as we are, are you located in the Tucson area? Can I bring this unit to you and have it repaired, or do you make service calls?
After the leak has been fixed what did you do to replace the foam? Our tub is outside in MN so we'll be below freezing for the better part of the winter so it needs the insulation.
I wish I would of shown how I finished this spa..But I wasn't thinking and didn't not film the insulation part... I use spray foam that will not absorb any water and it has a really high R rating...HomeDepot has this I usually get it buy the case online from who ever has the best price. I will be doing another video this soon and will try to show how I do it so it stays in place ..Hope this Helps ... Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING
UPDATE! 💯 I found the leak! The service person that dropped by didn't even notice it was 6 inches from his nose when he poked his head in where the one door panel was to visually take a look! He wants over 120 dollars for poking around and wasting my time! Imagine! Anyway, it was the spa light gasket that was cracked. I have to go buy a pair of those handy filter pliers wrench even though I already figured out how to remove the nut by using a narrow adjustable clamp. The RTV silicone is curing, a 24 hour minimum to wait, 72 is better, before I continue to fill up the rest of the hot tub. I am counting on that being the only leak because I did the pro tip of draining the water slowly and noting when the drips I was catching outside the hot tub would stop. The dripping stopped just below the highest layer of jets. I didn't notice that the light was at the same level so I thought it was one or more of the jets. It explains why then the dripping stopped once the water was below the spa light. This has been a very good learning experience. The more I do things myself the better off things are because I understand how to fix it the next time. Thanks to all the youtube channels that are so helpful to help us learn.! I wanted to check in with this video to understand more about what that area of the hot tub is about. Many thanks and if you do catch this thread, I was wondering what you or anyone in the community here has done to replace the spray foam that I took out from around all the jets? I saved all the bits. They are all dry, which is what I found suspicious because it is was a jet then the spray foam would have been soaked. I did NOT find any higher up area spray foam that was wet and there is NO foam around the spa light, only the white residue from the drying up from the leak. Do I put some in a garbage bag, the spray foam bits, and stuff it back into the roto molded cavity around the plumbing to try to reinstate the integrity of the plumbing? Or do I use rockwool and figure out a vapour barrier situation, which was what the garbage bag suggestion might address. Cheers from East Canada.🇨🇦 Really appreciate your vid! I am repairing a leak in roto molded 2 person hot tub by myself. Hot tub service here on Prince Edward Island with Island hot tubs and pools is horrible! The frustration in discussions with them, lack of confidence in their ability to figure out where the leak is, has motivated me to go to youtube and search out all hot tub repair eager people.
It depends on what is going on ? If is a leak they should have removable panels on the bottom and in that case you would need to put the spa on something so a tech or yourself could get under it to find and fix the leak. If its something to do with the pack or the pump/motor there should be a panel on the front of the spa most often under the top side control the can be removed so you are able to gain axes to the equipment . Hope this Helps Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

JMO
How and what kind of material do you use to re-form the big big hole? Thanks.
Thanks for the vid! Will be finding a leak myself as two places I’ve called want nothing to do with it 😂
Excellent!
Thanks you for the help
Great vid!!! You have motivated me to fix my hot tub. Thank you. One question, what type of spray foam do you use to replace the foam that was removed? Do you have a vid on that process/job?
Use a butter knife

good tip brother thank you !
Thanks.

Good video. Use a polyurethane caulk, not silicone for long lasting results!
Do you have any videos where you repair a jet that has the ribbed flex pipe that fits inside the pvc jet body?(not clamped but glued)

My tub is leaking and while we have enjoyed it over the last 4 years I'm calling it done. I think hot tubs are too much to worry with as they age.
Scott! Very helpful. I have located a leak with your help on an my bullfrog. What spray foam do you use to re insulate what has been removed?
I have the identical hot tub but the leak was the filter well. Should I removal ALL wet insulation that I encounter? Including all the wet insulation on the bottom of the tub?
What the best foam to spray in hot tub jet area you repair
Go figure
The sides have been removed and put back on several times and he has tried every thing to fix the leak and has never been able to and has said that there are several more but one stops for a while and another one starts up ...One day I know I will be hauling it to the dump and Ill bet it is going to weight a ton because of all the water soaked up in the wood...
When they leak they are a nightmare to pinpoint where it’s coming from.
what foam do you use to repair that part?
Hey Spa Man,
Ith the heat wave we've had here in the valley this year, my spa water heated up higher than it ever has before.
Thanks,
Steve in Chandler.
Thank you for a very inormative video! I was wondering if you happen to offer zoom or FaceTime consultations? I currently have a spa open with most of the insulation out but I have plastic tubing and connectors. I would love some advice on how to proceed. Thank you!
Like the video! Wondering when do you typically see leaks starting, years 7,8,9..etc? Are there some brands worse then other for leaking? Keep it up!
To help with clean-up. with silicon and epoxy. Use rubbing alcohol 99% works best.
Spa Man, what did you use to cut the panel off?
Im not sure what panel you are talking about. if you are talking about the side panels they have wood screws every 10 inch or so..

Question! What foam insultation would you recommend and where I can get some?
Anyways, again, i really appreciate the detailed dcalk talk and just want to encourage others learn how to use your calk so it dfoesnt just sit there and get hard without amyome getting to enjoy the many places you could ave used it or helped another person with itnyways, again, i really appreciate the detailed dcalk talk and just want to encourage others learn how to use your calk so it dfoesnt just hang there and get hard without anyome getting to enjoy the many places you could ave used it or helped another person with it
That file with the aggressive teeth is for auto body work.
Nice rare topside 😄
@@spaman5440 💯I am using your mantra: Its just hoses with water running through folks, Don't go crazy!" This gets me to not lose patience and remember the vids you have done where you had to be patient as well to get through the spray foam and find where it could be. Patience galore is needed. Thanks for the mantra. I am repeating it in my head ALOT! 🥴Just spent 3 hours this late morning before too much heat of the day comes of jacking the small spa up about 26 inches and starting to take the plastic panels off the designated rectangular area's underneath. I started pulling the spray foam as well to the jet area's. I didn't feel any moisture around the 6 jets where I started with. There are two jets on the other side. I stopped to regroup my thoughts as I was getting tired and my wrists were getting tired from pulling the foam and sqeezing my hand in some spots. I plan to stop on the 6 jet side and check the two jet side. I found some small rounded spray foam bits and I am thinking maybe a little mouse got in somewhere? I will follow up tomorrow, after a bit of a break, and to get the dogs cooled off with pool play fun. Summer is so short.
And when your out side in the winter at - 40 you just keep digging right lol

@@spaman5440 Can you tell me exactly what it is so when I go I can ask for it? Any chance you could do a video sometime on how to reinsulate?
I have a 20 something year old dimensions one hot tub. I'd like to replace it with a large, mid price range 220 V unit. Do you have a recommendation or physical store I can visit?
Your videos are so helpful, thank you! We have a J465 with a leaky LED Jet, think it’s called a powerpro IX jet. Heard it’s a common problem but cannot find a video tutorial anywhere. If you happen to have one that you fixed any advice or video would be great.
do you ever refoam the areas of foam that you remove? or just call it good?
Spaman did you apply the foam back around the jets?
Do you know about the hole in the side of caulk gun for cutting the tip off? Thanks Tim Jones! Pretty kewel!
Don't use that hole to cut your tip. Those things are terrible.
Thank you for the great video. I definitely feel confident in tackling my leak. One question….. can “great stuff” be used to fill in the foam insulation??? Once again… thank you
I need the seals for J325 jacuzzi hot tub . Watched it can do and need to do mine but can’t find seals my are wasted
Hopefully there is another TH-cam video that shows this.
do you spray foam it again or leave it be?
Just curios, why don't you use the silicone caulking instead of PVC?
Hey Spa Guy any tips for removing the sides on a Beachcomber 160 it's got the t&g slats that wrap all the way around with no visible screws. I used the tips in this video to fix one leak but there's more that I can't access 🙁
Dude I feel your pain..They are really tough to remove with out doing damage to the siding..when Ive had to remove them I start in the corner and work my way around.sometime I been lucky and none were damaged other times not so lucky. there really is no good way you just have to do what works best for you. I have a tub with Jet Body gaskets that are basically cracked and leaking, is there a good source to get new gaskets so I can replace them all?
Go to Amazon .com and type in the type of jet you have ( some place on the jet or the housing there should be a number ..Hope that Helps Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING
Thank you for this great video. If we don’t feel comfortable with this DIY, do you have some one you could recommend to do the repair?
We are in the Phoenix AZ metro area.
Thanks! Y’all sell parts as well or know the part number for a gasket and self leveling washer? Great repair vid! Keep it up!
PS. So you refill the foam into the empty area now, or leave it open?. Or use some other type of insulation. IE in New England it's cold so what do you suggest. Thank you again.
Where do you buy the parts?
How do you like hot springs
If you need information on a Spa manufacture or Spa model ...I would call the shop and talk with Scott...certain companies he dose not like because there customer service is not what he calls user friendly..Some do not have the heart of a teacher and he feel they should.
That is a very unusual woodworking rasp. The one with the deep teeth. Did your Dad give you that one also? I couldn’t find one like it online. It is pretty cool. Looks like we are remodeling our bathroom. Our tiled shower is definitely leaking but I’m hoping the jets just needed tightening on the garden tub. Thanks for the post. Blessings!

What did you use to replace the lost insulation? How did you finish the job?
Did you figure out what to use to re insulate?
Yeah? Really would like to know
Yup xs3! I too would like to see a video on replacing the insulation….
blown in attic insulation comes in big bags would work, I believe...you could get smaller plastic bags and stuff the inside with the insulation
How do I remove the side panels on a beachcomber hot tub without destroying them?
How do you take the side off??

That is an old auto body file for shaping the lead seams on older cars
Is it rust ?
Or is it the chemicals leaching out and being exposed to air causing the discoloration
Good question.. I might have to do a little more research on it to really find out. Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

Did you move that tub to your shop to repair it?
How do you remove the outer panels to begin with? Ours appear to be glued on?
Some spa like HotSprings are like that.. Panels are not easy to remove.. You have to take your time.. I would start on the back that doesn't get seen or is agents the wall and figure out a plan of attack..It just take time. Hope this Helps Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

Would really love to see that one, I have been trying to trace a leak myself,
@@spaman5440 Did you do a video of re-foaming? I'd like to know what brand and model foam you buy for this. Thanks!
Cheers from East Canada.🇨🇦
Really appreciate your vid!
I have a dreammaker spa and it does not have the removable panels. How do troubleshoot a one piece shell hot tub?
It depends on what is going on ? If is a leak they should have removable panels on the bottom and in that case you would need to put the spa on something so a tech or yourself could get under it to find and fix the leak. If its something to do with the pack or the pump/motor there should be a panel on the front of the spa most often under the top side control the can be removed so you are able to gain axes to the equipment .
