  • (Before You Start... SHUT OFF THE BREAKER)
In this video I will show you 6 Common things that will cause a GFCI breaker to trip...This is a process of elimination it does take a little time to figure out what is causing the breaker to trip.
(One thing that helps me )...If you have a cell phone camera take pictures as you remove each connector or mark each connector with a sharpie.... it makes the replacement process go smoothly.
BalBoa Spa Equipment is one of the best in the industry and very easy to figure out what is causing the problem if the GFCI Breaker keeps tripping there are really only 6 things to check for if by chance all six components check out ? its most likely the board.( check out my other Video on how to change the board on a BalBoa Pack)

I just took on a "free" hot tub from a friend that has not run in a few years. Wired it up and it worked for 2 days. Then the breaker tripped. Sure enough it was the ozonator!! I knew nothing about hot tubs until your video. Now I feel like a hot tub repair man after watching this. Thanks so much for putting this out in the universe...VERY helpful!!

SPA Man, I am really glad you included the stereo portion on the video. After hours of troubleshooting I had the same problem. Disconnected the AC DC converter and the breaker stopped tripping and the Hot Tub started working perfectly; good job.

Very helpful video; using your testing process saved us a very expensive service call. Breaker was tripping after about 6 seconds. We originally thought it was the heater; turned out to be the circulation pump. $159 fix, instead of $300+.
    You got your stuff right!!!

Like so many others, it was the heater tripping the gfci. Its funny , I was in cable and they always had a saying, where are you bad and where are your good. The same diagnostics tools apply here. Thanks spa man. You are gold.

I just want to give you a huge thanks for making your videos. Specifically this one. We got a new sundance cameo 880 yesterday (here in AZ) and filled it and just kept tripping the breaker trying to turn it on. It was very frustrating. We figured out by doing the elimination process (after checking the gfci wiring per your other videos) it is the blower tripping the gfci so at least we know. Hopefully we can get a tech out quickly from our dealership to deal with the blower. Thanks so much for taking the time to do these!!

You are the best, Sr. I will check mine and update this post once it gets fixed. Thanks. UPDATE: Once I removed the cover and start checking for leaks, I noticed drops coming out from the inner Clearray system (Jacuzzi-J345), rust in the nuts and humidity in the floor of the tub, close to one of the pumps. I disconnected the Clearray system from the tubing, the system board and removed it completely from the tub. Now the tub has been working for more than 3 hours without tripping the breaker. I think I found it! Thanks!

Spa Man you rock. My breaker blew and fizzled out a few days ago. Installed new breaker and it was immediately popping. Followed your suggestion. Disconnected ozone first. That wasn't it. We have a BALBOA control pack on our OCC hot tub. but the gfci breaker on the disconnect will trip but only after about ten minutes of being in the tub with both pumps running. It seems as though the circulation pump has a little problem with kicking on as there is a delay when turning on. but it doesn t trip then only after me and my wife are in the tub in front of the jets?

So I have a tub (J325) that is tripping the GFCI plug as soon as it powers on. I isolated it to the circulating pump. However, not sure if this is indicative of something else: I disconnected the black lead from the control panel and it doesn't trip. But when I use my meter to check the terminal's voltage to ground, it trips! Could the relay for that pump or even the board be bad? I did not disconnect the white lead though. Should I have disconnected it to fully isolate the pump? thanks for your help!

Best video out there for a DIY with limited knowledge. Thank you! I do have an issue with the spa panel GFCI breaker tripping when connected to the spa. Breaker does not trip when I disconnect the spa. Checked line in to spa sub panel from main panel with meter and I get 240, when I check the load side of the GFCI breaker I get 241. Do you think this is enough to trip the breaker or not enough to worry about. Everything is brand new, spa, breakers and all the wiring. I used 6/3 wire, could this be the issue? Should I replace the ground wire with an insulated ground and not worry about the 241 meter read?

Hey Spa Man, thanks for all the great videos! I'm working on a friends Balboa and it trips the breaker sporatically. It runs fine for a while and usually when the cycle shuts down it can trip the breaker. I tried disconnecting everything and repluging like you said. It's not the heater or ozone devices but seems to be the 2 speed left hand motor that is the problem but the motor runs fine. Replaced the main breaker. Any suggestions about the motor? Thanks a mill.

Hello Spa Man, I have a Z110 Jacuzzi Whirlpool with Balboa H136 control system. Water is hot, works well but from time to time the top panel red light starts to flash out of nowhere and disables the heater for 20 mins or so, then red light goes solid, which means heater is on and it stays ok. I drained the tub, removed the heater thinking it was getting fouled, but it looks clean inside, same is true for the power connection points, no rust or calcium buildup anywhere. I am guessing it's one of the two temperature sensors. One sensor is embedded in the heater. The other one is in the water filter assembly. What do you recommend I do to address this flashing red light problem? cheers!

Hey Spa Man! Thanks for the video! I have it narrowed down to when the pump that circulates water through the heater tries to kick on, it trips the breaker. I tried a different motor and it does the same thing. Could it be a relay or something if it’s not the motor? Thanks I’m advance!

Any idea what to do next? I disconnected everything attached to the control panel (a Gecko - Dimension one unit) and no breaker tripped. Once I connect the transformer connector with blk and wht wires to the controller, it trips. I replaced the transformer and it still trips. Is the controller bad?...that's the only part I have not replaced.

2007 Sundance Optima 880. Breaker tripping.. Diagnostic as you did showed heater was to blame. Disconnected heater but now the unit turns on randomly. Sometimes its a pump, maybe the blower, maybe the lights sometimes a combination of all 3. What now?

Is it typical to have pump 1 not plugged in and plugged into pump two per say ? When I opened this new used unit it’s tripping breaker and idk what’s wrong yet , but here’s two issues I see , in the main panel the neutrals and grounds are all sorts of mixed up rather then designation of one bus for ground and another for common … second seems to be pump in plugged into pump 2 rather then pump one
