Thanks for making the video! I’ll be testing it tomorrow for interviews on the right angle which is what I’ve struggled with in the past (keeping people in focus) since I set it to MF and I’m also interviewing. I’ll be using the metabones speedbooster and in my living room testing it did just fine. Thanks again!
The best part about this tool, to me, is the continuation of RED not doing anything half-ass. In a world where so many products are rushed to market and then later, and only after everyone is pissed off, "fixed" with firmware updates, it's nice to see a company like RED who makes sure new features work well before they are implemented or even spoken about at all.
i'll post a Short using the RF 35 macro as you said. The processing is happening on the phone or tablet in the app and the information is being forwarded to the camera so the calculations are not being done by the camera.
Your videos are incredibly helpful. The Red Komodo is a big step up for a prosumer operator like myself and your videos are worthy in explaining features I would have never picked up on otherwise.
As always, thanks for the video! I might have some connectivity issues of some sort. My AF face tracking is VERY SLOW. I'm going to mess around with the wifi channels in the settings. Hopefully this helps. I gave up on the Komodo's AF a while ago, but I'm inspired by your video. I have some good RF glass to work with. Cross my fingers. Thank you again for these videos!
Great demo, I'm sold! One question, Part of the gear I'll be selling is a BMPCC 6K with the DJI Lidar. With the Lidar I can select faces or objects in the touch screen. Can you select objects with the Komodo? Thanks!
yes, but I would keep the DJI Lidar incase you can find use for it with the KOMODO, I bought the Lidar and find it useful when choosing manual lenses like the Nisi Athenas and Blazar anamorphic.
Hey Carlos, thanks as always for your content. Regarding the lens specifically, I’m hearing that it’s super noisy when focusing. Any issues with that in a quiet interview situation? Thanks!
Interesting question. We make it a point to capture nat sound it helps fill in gaps as well as deal with noise reduction. With that said I haven’t had an issue where the lens motors make it into my production sound. So the question from me would be how are you micing the talent?
Thanks for this! It would be good to know the best all round combo for autofocus and quality. So which lens type e.g which canon ef vs rf + which ND solution. Also does the focal reducer help or hinder the autofocus. A test with two people in the frame would also be good to see.
@@carlosq00 Hello Carlos ! I was thinking of getting a R5C but i now consider getting for the same price two R6 mark 2. Or just one and wait for the next ciné camera from canon that might have RF mount and better dynamic range… But that camera might not come soon enough… What is your opinion of the R6 mark2? Not good enough? I was told on Avid Media Composer or other Editing soft, they were NO good h265 editing experience… At least the R5C does not have this codec limitation.. Too much variables LOL..
I don’t have any experience with that but also haven’t had any issues with the app in wide open spaces or highly congested shoots in the US, Canada, Germany, Italy, Chile, Japan, and South Africa.
Can I control the red Komodo using the $499 red pro app from a iPhone 13 pro max or do I have to buy a newer ipad to control the red Komodo using this red pro app ?
Also, I know it's Veteran's Day not Memorial Day...🤦🏽
What an amazing time to be alive. A cheap RED with face tracking AF was unimaginable not so long ago. Thanks for this awesome demo!

But the AF is not reliable at all, especially not with the RF 35 macro. It is still in beta. Nor is it using AI.
and this is still in Beta...

Excellent demonstration CQ 🎥🎬
Thanks

i am going to try using my 5G hotspot as my infrastructure on set next week and will report back on performance.
Great to see it moving forward
it really has come a long way thanks for stoping by the channel!

@@carlosq00 Thanks for the recommendation!
I only have EF lenses with the Canon speedbooster . Not sure how well it does on the Komodo with autofocus. Haven't used it in a while.

@@carlosq00 Good to know. We prefer boom but generally (if time permits) lav and boom the talent for insurance and use what sounds better in post.
face AF tracking seems pretty solid for interview setups. Let us know how that feature works on dana dolly or slider for tracking!
Slider in a sit down interview works great. Will let you know about a dana dolly tracking shot next week.
I would like to see how it works with sigma 16-35mm 1.8
I don't own that lens....

the best performance comes from the L series lenses with the faster motors
Carlos have you tested this with Komodo X? It doesn’t seem like it’s working for me. When I start the face detect, all AF stops working.
How far is canon focal reducer useful on red Komodo? Because Komodo sensor is bigger than S35.
It seems to work throughout all of the sensor coverage
Hey, Carlos. While I’m not looking to get a Komodo at this point, I’m curious what you think of this AF vs the R5C AF in video.
the R5C is more advanced with the Dual Pixel AF and Eye Detect.

Also do you think the $400 red Komodo link adapter is necessary to use the red control app or red control pro app efficiently and effectively?
I don’t have any experience with that but also haven’t had any issues with the app in wide open spaces or highly congested shoots in the US, Canada, Germany, Italy, Chile, Japan, and South Africa.
@@carlosq00 thanks
@@carlosq00 so you use the app often? For what situations?
Hola Carlos, what happen if you turn in your chair? Will Komodo change focus point or will still be your nape on focus?
if the face is lost, it will search for a face like the one in the picure
Does it only works through the app?
On OG Komodo it works with the App on
I was trying to test it on the KX last night with an RF cannon lens and couldn’t make it work without the app.
Can I control the red Komodo using the $499 red pro app from a iPhone 13 pro max or do I have to buy a newer ipad to control the red Komodo using this red pro app ?
Yes and you can do that with the free version too.
@@carlosq00 ok good to know thank you !
Thanks Carlos. That looks really useful. Are you using Android or iOS?
iOS in infrastructure mode. When working outside of the studio, I use a hot-spot to use infrastructure mode too.
@@carlosq00 a hot-spot on a third device, or on the phone you are using Red Control on? Does that help?
why not use native rf canon primes with autofocus ?

Thanks for sharing.
Is this the free app version ?
Yes, it is
