You are the absolute best product rep on the internet. Full explanation and then first-person visual of each wrong case is perfect -- "how you might screw up" type videos with visuals help way more than "how to" videos for a lot of us. Awesome stuff, man - thanks.
Completely AGREE! Different Brandon M tho, I’ve been in sales for over 25 years, and I’m unashamed to say I routinely use your videos as training materials for my teams! Respect Sir!
I like how you describe the entire process to your full ability in kindergarten layman's terms. And not keeping this type of trade secret, and really giving people confidence to do this on their own. A lot of shops / companies wouldn't do this and be this helpful. Thanks for being cool and taking the time to show people how to get the absolute best look out of your product. I have only done my rims, but after watching your videos it really gave me the confidence to go for it and they came out amazing. I someday would like to do my whole car but want to wait until I can do it properly and buy that spray gun. That and garage space lol
Man, you can tell right as the first coat is going down that there is a problem! You know I've been subscribed for years, but I've never felt more ready to take the plunge and start dipping than I am watching this video!
Fonzie, you are arguably the best tutorial instructor on TH-cam or any other format. Your down to earth easy step by step instructions helped give me the confidence to do this. Your products are second to none. Thank you.
More of these types of diy help vids please. Very informative style of vid. It helps hearing for a pro to help with the end result being that much better.
Man I wish I knew this a few years ago. . The roof and hood of my wagon was really bad. I gave up on plasti dipping. This may make me return to it. Thanks for the video!
This straight on addressing the problem that has been bugging me to weeks. Will try to apply what I learnt here. This is very helpful video. Many thanks 🙏🏻
I have nothing bad to say about plasti dip or the dyc channel in general not only is it an affordable product, you get tips and lessons on how to use the product at home, so you can do it on an even more affordable budget than getting paint done in a shop or buying legit auto paint and I love how they include everything in the kits as well.
I've had problems with striping and really didn't understand how to fix it. This video helps a lot. I understand what Fonzi explained. I planned on redoing my hood this spring. I feel pretty good about getting a better result. Thanks.
Thanks for this! I just happened to get stripes on a small project and didn't know a way out. I'll try your idea because it makes total sense. I had a hunch about it but didn't know the application's details.
All of your videos are great thank you, Fonzie! Has anyone had a problem accidentally sweating onto the car while spraying? What's the best way to try and clean that without leaving a bunch of mess or circle spots? Is this just a me problem or does anyone else ever have that issue?
So you showed how to fix stripes with a sprayer....but a lot of us can’t afford it and have to use rattle cans. Can stripes be fixed with rattle cans? I was wondering if you could show the -perfect- base coat/fix coat for stripes with rattle cans. I ask because I feel there are more rattle can users than sprayer users.
Hello Fonzie...your work is truly impressive. I'm a fan. Apparently I didn't use enough product when spraying my paint layers. Now it's not smooth. Do I have to remove everything and start again or can I make up for it by putting on heavier layers?
Essentially your cutting your spray pattern by half of its fanning over the front of the sprayer "pattern" I paint latex masks and this is crucial in order to make a smooth even coat
One more tip, wait for the coat to dry fully before making judgments. Wet dip or any paint will trick you into thinking it's too wet or too dry. Spraying too early can give you pooling, striping, or blotchy finish.
I did my car in blue quartz and got white stripes for some reason. I was ready to peel off but decided to buy another gallon about 3 weeks later and sprayed on top of what I already did and looks 100% better.
If doing this technique for a full coupe, will the dip kit have enough material to complete it? Btw what color blue is the dip you were demonstrating and if possible a link or part kit number? Thanks
This is an awesome video- one suggestion, it’s hard to see your distance in these first person shots. Don’t get me wrong I love the first person! But if you cut to a side shot now and then to show distance that would be awesome!
Perfect colour. What is the name of that colour, i am sure you have it but because you have a lot i don't know exactly which one is! So please tell me from your shop which is it? And one more? If i have little dent nr surface, and fix them with stucco, with the plastic stuck perfect on it? Thank you for your time for everything!
Honestly I'll only use the canned spray plasti dip. I've used spray guns before and was the worst thing I did. But I'm sure if I did it like you did I'd be fine and much quicker. I bet making your own wedge to make it centered be much easier to ya think or doesn't it matter?
Tried this method and got runs. Maybe turn down the spray since we're overlapping so much? Just seems like if you're spraying like this you'd get it so wet you would be bound to have runs.
I really enjoy your videos I am trying to dip a Harley Davison so I was wondering if you have any videos on doing a Harley Davison or like the handlebars or chrome? Thank you and God bless.
ok what I gather from this is that you need to be high but not too high, to keep the product from "graining" slow but not too slow, to keep the product from "pooling" and spray at a 90deg angle to the main area of the part, to keep graining to the non-aligned parts, but that still runs the risk of moving too close and putting too much product down on the non-aligned parts too quickly and getting runs or drips there, or moving too far away or out of plane of curved parts and graining them with overspray. So what do you do around curves? If you have bumper with a 90 deg curve, at some point you're going to put-down overspray at an angle. With paint you can just mist these parts as the paint will not grain as it goes down but it still will not wet the adjacent surfaces properly so you have to paint the curves first and then come back and lay paint down on the flat parts.
No. Use his pre dip to strip off any contaminants and make sure it's 1 hundo percent dry before you spray. You are basically covering the metal with rubber which is a moisure/vapor protective barrier.
I'm a little confused about what you say with medium coats and tight overlaps. In a normal dip job you always recommended to get fairly close with 50/50 overlap. It looks like from the video your spraying from a little further and doing about 80-90% overlaps? Do I have that right?
Cans don't give that range of spray like the gun does. I did the same and immediately peeled it off because I knew I couldn't get the cans to spray as well
Question: you talk about doing 50% overlap in other videos but on this one is more like 75-80% overlap it looks like and much effort. What am I missing?
Old post, but might help out. I had texture on my hood and roof - 3rd black base coat. I used 1000 grit wet sand paper and a sponge that I wrapped the paper around to not cut into the hard angles. It worked brilliant. I removed the texture, nice and smooth and then added my next 2 coats and it turned out perfect. You would never know it had the texture issues. So YES, you can sand plastic dip.
@@Tfitzwil ...yes but it's still hard to beat lacquer and/or enamel, if that's the look that you're going for. If you're going for protection then it's hard to beat trunk-bed paint, since that's what it's designed for. PD is too much of a "jack of all trades" paint. er, "coating".
that needs some kind of ruler or something on the sprayer to indicate distance from the hood. both the incorrect and the correct methods look like they're happening at exactly the same distance
Thanks so much for watching! What other tutorials do you want to see?
DipYourCar how about some different roof tutorials. Most awkward part to do I reckon
Colershift pearls X proline?
Difficult areas like the roof and door handles

Got stripes when i painted my kitchen cabinets, watched this is video and painted again and , BOOM perfect result. Thanx
Like everyone else, I’m here because I tiger striped my base coat…..so the fix coat you do at the end is sooooo key. Thanks!

he is making that technique look easy. Its not easy to be 90 degrees over larger hoods.
I've had problems with striping and really didn't understand how to fix it. This video helps a lot. I understand what Fonzi explained. I planned on redoing my hood this spring. I feel pretty good about getting a better result. Thanks.

That bit right about @7:30 is just so so outstanding. Perfect instruction.
I wish I had found your video demonstration before I attempted to spray paint my hood with spray cans I now own a tiger!!!!😢 Thanks again.
Finally! Can’t wait to do this on the next color and fix my problems with striping.
I saw that thumbnail and was like, wow, how can I replicate that look, fucking love that look!
Thanks for that detailed example. This was the best at making the reason why it happens very clear!
Awesome video !! you explain it simple enough where I wouldn’t hesitate to try spraying my car first time .. I can’t wait to try this on my car 👍🏻

You should do a video repairing the dent in the hood then dip over it.
Thanks for the video!
My question is,: if I already have tiger stripes from previous coat, can I fix it in the next coat using the correct distance?

looks awesome! do you have plasti dip in spray cans? and if yes how is the result with them?
Essentially your cutting your spray pattern by half of its fanning over the front of the sprayer "pattern" I paint latex masks and this is crucial in order to make a smooth even coat
Great video 2 out of 2 dip projects have strips on the goods thanks for the advise I wish I had cash for another project
So should I spray my whole car in this manner of setting out? Rather than the 50% overlap for non metallic colors?
Thank you!!! Helped save a project!
Awesome tip! Thank you 🙏This will definitely help spraying my new dip tomorrow. Just in time 😀
One more tip, wait for the coat to dry fully before making judgments. Wet dip or any paint will trick you into thinking it's too wet or too dry. Spraying too early can give you pooling, striping, or blotchy finish.
Can these stripes be fixed even if the car has be dipped months ago?

Does this technique applies for black solid paint also?
Broski!😃awesome video! Saw another video of URS and I was thinking about the tiger stripes👍🏼
What a detailed explanation 👌 Amazing 👏
i was having that spray problem with the bottom heavy. thanks for the info. to correct it!
You are a life saver. Thanks for the video
Man what a master class session! Do you plan on doing more as a part of a series?
The hood in the thumbnail looked pretty cool tho
Thanks for the info, now how do I fix the zebra stripes?
I'm guessing I won't get this answer here either lol
Tried this method and got runs. Maybe turn down the spray since we're overlapping so much? Just seems like if you're spraying like this you'd get it so wet you would be bound to have runs.
Im going do this but with cans whats tips do u have? Or another video to with cans for the bonnet
Very informative. I have a hood that I'll be working on soon. Thanks for the video.
Does it make a difference spraying plasti dip straight out of the can?
Fingers get sore= les dexterity= poor handling = poor consistency = stripes
Hey Fonzie. Could you do a video on smoking head/tail lights with the Plasti Dip Smoke?
Is that even possible? Not being a dick about it, just wondering.
@@bayouboattrash yeah it works I did it to my old tail lights, but it’s definitely a lot better using a vinyl tint to tint them
You’re convincing me more and more to dip my car

Hello, I have an aluminum hood from a dodge charger, my question is do I have to spray a special prime or a special sealer before paint?
No. Use his pre dip to strip off any contaminants and make sure it's 1 hundo percent dry before you spray. You are basically covering the metal with rubber which is a moisure/vapor protective barrier.
So what do you suggest I set the fan and psi to cover strips? If you don’t mind.
This looks really good and the video helped a lot. Thank you.

Do the dip packages you buy online come with everything you need? For example, the base coat that you need for a specific color?
Does this technique work while using the can too?
Is there a Mouse on the floor at 11:37? 🤣🤣
No thats like a black glove
If you get stripes when painting vertical as you do, can you fix it by painting from fender to fender while it's still wet??
What colour was that ?
Thanks for the great video. So you kept gun settings the same for both? You didn’t change flow dial on back of gun?
Todd Lang no changes on gun setting. Always working w a 6-7” spray fan
Did not see Tigger strips in base coat only on second coat of clear coat thanks
Should add a laser pointer to the sprayer to better show how far over you moving the while your are spraying
Medium means: not to close, but not too far either. Is that right?
What if you've finished the car, run out of dip and have none left to fix it. How long can you leave it before you can spray over existing dip?
Nice vid team! Proly explained this in another video, what's the difference in turbines?
luv4life1 Advanced has twice the power, better atomization and provides a much smoother finish.
@@dipyourcar would you suggest it for intermediate users?

Great video! How far down did you have your dial when you're doing the slower passed?
Amazing content, would love to be able to give this ago myself, do you ship to the UK?
Btw do a video of how to remove/fix all those little spots where something was caught.
So how about spray cans?
Awesome video-thank you.
Does each coat have to dry before you applying the next? Or do you applying wet on top of wet?
Do you start with the roof of the vehicle and do you do it fully or part
What's a good position for the dial on the handle ?
About how many inches away from The surface are you when doing it right?
Now how do you do it IF youre going for this look?
Love you Fonzie!
Can you use Plastidip as a base coat then use colour shift paint over the top of it?
I feel like an O-ring around the brass so it centres on the plastic piece would suffice.
I have stripes from using a can on my hood just practicing . Should I peel it or try to fix it ? I'm confused lol

This is specifically for that tiger stripe issue
whats with all the little grains on the hood?
damn that color is dope
ok so how do you fix grainy product, short of peeling and repainting?
sand the entire surface and re-coat, or recoat, sand and then coat again?
