Id love to see an updated video comparing the main slicers (cura, super slicer, and maybe some of the more obscurce ones) and see which one is best for which people
I picked up a P1P (Now a P1S) last year before the holidays, and I decided to go with OrcaSlicer. This was my first 3D printer so learning what all of the settings do in the slicer was definitely a learning curve but I'm glad that I decided on OrcaSlicer. It seems to be /the/ slicer to use.
Just started using Orca slicer and liking it so far (having come from Super Slicer). One thing I really like is that you can have multiple 'plates' in a project - however, a glaring omissino (unless I'm missing something) is that you can only have one filament type for the whole project. So, if I have a multi-part print and some parts need to be in ASA and others in PETG, I can't save the filament type to the plate (note, I can set the filament at slice time but that's a workaround that shouldn't be necessary).
I downloaded it before but haven't really used it because I never got a good config setup for my printers. Sounds like I may need to make some time to do that and give it a try. Thanks Modbot!
@@Mrzizzy69 I didn't really try printing with it. I was going to but didn't have the time to set it up. It's great that slicers keep evolving so much, it's only a pain when it comes time to switch.
Thanks, Daniel! I went ahead and grabbed 1.7.0 Beta for Linux. I really like the way that they've maintained a very stable port to Linux for these. While I use Mac and Windows, I live in Linux for most dev/creator tasks whenever possible.
@@Kensownvids I'm a self-builder for my daily driver (I guess that would make it a "TIM's Distro"), but I also use Mint, Fedora, Rocky and Debian Stock for testing work. I've run it on my daily driver, Mint, and Debian 11 with full success. What are you running into after you download it? The only thing that I noticed is that you do need to "chmod +x" the resulting appimage file.
@@Kensownvids Yes, their Linux port isn't really ready for prime time use yet. They appear to continue to improve it but it's still alpha/beta level quality under Linux. Maybe by the next release they'll have it usable under Linux.
thank you for the video. I am trying to transfer my cura setting to orca. but it is taking 20-30min longer to print in orca. any help would be great. thank you
Downloaded the later 1.7.0 a couple of days ago, and was using Orca over Bambu Studio with my X1 Carbon. It seems Bambu are picking features off Prusaslicer & Orca slicer, and vice versa... so it's a win win for us 3D printer users
Hi, I subscribe to your channel which I really love to watch. I’m having a problem printing two colors with one excluder I have.Ender 3 S1 Pro I’m using orca slicer 2.0 I tried M600 end it doesn’t work I don’t know why I also try pause the print and it still doesn’t work. Any suggestion please please thank you, Eli.
I noticed in the latest video that you've got an ankermakr sitting there. Have you reviewed this machine yet? I'll be quite interested in your opinion.
I love your work, thank you so much for your many contributions to the community. I'm sure you've thought of this, but have you ever considered editing your multi-hour TH-cams to whittle them down time-wise? There's so much valuable information, but time can be problematic for some of us. An edited 3-hour show may make it down to an hour or less -- and that would likely up your viewer numbers considerably. When I can afford the time, I've enjoyed many of the "long form" versions, but the time thing just severely cuts the amount of viewing I can afford. Anyway, just an idea. Again, thank you!
Heated chamber looks awesome, my printer is well sealed and prints ABS very! well.. but i can see the parts pull hard on the brims/comers and i've been somewhat lazy to install the heating components i have laying around. This definitely maybe.. might.. make me do something with them 😅
Dunno if it's been mentioned by anyone else in here, but those mouse ears are all but useless the way they've implemented them. To be truly effective, the mouse ear must be fully incorporated into the object's bottom layer, not just 'snugged up' against it as a separate object touching it with zero clearance. Also, you can't adjust the position of an ear with respect to the corner it's attached to; sometimes it's desirable to have only a small bit of an ear overlapping an object, which is still effective for warp-prevention, but also easier to remove during post-processing. For comparison, look at Prusaslicer's 'helper disk' (mouse ear) modifier: Add one to an object, slice, and preview the first layer to see the difference in how the the mouse ear is incorporated into layer. The way orca does it only adds 2 x the ear's radius 'attachment' to its associated object, meaning there is only 2x ear radius line of filament resisting warping for the corner...next to useless.
Please help me decide. I am a hobbyist who uses the printer at home. My only wish is to be able to print smoothly and without interruption. It would be great if I could do this a little faster than standard devices. mk4 and p1s are what I'm considering right now, but I'm having a hard time deciding.
Is there a way to import my existing printer/filament/print profiles from PrusaSlicer into OrcaSlicer? I'm not interested in recreating them in OrcaSlicer just to check it out.
Thanks for highlighting new features in Orca Slicer. I just got my P1S with AMS a week ago and moved from PrusaSlicer. Banbu Studio has a bug and will not allow me to print different color layers when slicing a butterfly Orca does. One feature I miss from PrusaSlicer is easily changing from metric to imperal measurements when using the measurement tool. U must go to View, Preferences to switch instead of a toggle. Looking forward to UR update on version 1.7.0. David
Cura has had a plugin for the mouse ears for a long time but it doesnt work correctly. If you try and use mouse ears and supports it sets the support density to 100% if you turn the density down then the mouse ear doesn't form properly.
Wrong, all you need to do to open a un-notarised app is right-click and select open, if you have enabled "App Store and identified developers" in security preferences...
Merrill left a comment recently that they'd resigned from their job to work on SS full time starting in the next few months. If everything goes smoothly I'd be expecting a major update or two before the end of the year
I would always choose to use whatever you're most comfortable with. I started with Cura because it's what I had used a few years ago with my old Anet A8 (RIP). Tried to use PrusaSlicer, couldn't figure out how anything worked, dropped it quickly. Eventually I moved to Orca because its interface is much less cumbersome than Cura.
I agree with this. Most slicers will do what you need them to and whichever you feel the most comfortable with it going to be the best option. I used cura for years but when I switched to Mac I found performance was not great. I would download 2-3 slicers and see which one you like the layout of best.
I used cura for a while and put off trying anything else. But as soon as i eventually downloaded superslicer, I never opened up cura again. Now I'm putting off trying orcaslicer. Trouble with the question is there isn't one answer. Having said that, my answer is to try superslicer.
Cura is what I would recommend if you're just getting started and want to get your feet wet. There's tons of support, tutorials and troubleshooting because "everyone" uses it. Once you have the concepts down for settings, you can start branching out and trying new slicers to see what you like best. At that point, you can ask yourself if there is a certain feature you like in one slicer that the rest don't have.
This 3D printing malarkey is more difficult than it looks. Learn to draw on the computer ( novice ) put it in a slicer ( novice ) and watch it create mildly complex plastic rope 😂😂😂😂

Orca is the best regardless
These are actually great new features that aren't touched on enough. GJ on the straightforward informative demonstration.

I been using the same feature in SuperSlicer for quite some time now. It saves material and holds well.
I am a big fan. Often brims are only needed on specific sections of a model.

I would like it to have a feature that allows a printer to print using 3 axes at once too, for instance smooth (iron) the plane at angle.
