If a watching watching this video has a bad thermal fuse, you need to clean out your lint screen holder and dryer vent. Also at the end of the dryer, it sounded kind of noisy. There will always be a noise when the drum seam passes over the drum rollers, but this sounds like rubber skid marks on the drum. They can be scraped off with a puddy knife and will significantly reduce the clumpy noise. This noise and the reason you have belt and or tensioner problems is from overloading or overuse. If people would stop putting huge loads like all their jeans at once or shoes, rugs , big blankets etc, you will save yourself alot of problems. If you ever work on a dryer, clean the lint screen holder, inside the dryer and try using and electric (not gas) leaf blower to blow out the vent.
Your video was an immense help to me. I recently replaced the belt and rollers on my gas powered Whirlpool Duet dryer because it was making a dreadful squeal when my wife tried to use it. Had everything installed and returned the gas line, etc only to discover that the dryer wouldn’t start, and it only made a clicking noise when I tried to start it. One video suggested it was the electronic assembly, but nothing looked amiss. Found your video and discovered that the belt switch was still activated. Once I adjusted it and tested the dryer, it began working normally. Thank you! 😊
Happened to have a thermal switch from previous repair kit. Took it apart to investigate and past me had bagged and taped the spare parts inside. 30 minute diagnostic and repair. Ordering another kit for the next failure. I'm going to keep this thing running 20 more years Thank you!!!
Thank you very much. My Duet dryer has the exact same symptoms. Now I just need to pull it apart to check for those two problem spots to see which one is the culprit.
Thank you very much for this video. My tensioner wheel broke off also and I followed this with great success. I got the whole bracket with wheel already installed on it for $25.00 Gave me a chance to shop vac all of the lint in there and around the motor too. Once again THANK YOU !!
Excellent video !!!!! Mine was the thermal switch I replaced it and the dryer is working fine. Amazon had the switch delivered promptly and we were back in business. The part is cheap. Saved our family money, if we were to have a repairman come in I’m sure it would have been expensive. Thank you for the video, very much appreciated.
Theo, huge thank you man! Your video was spot on and it helped me resolve our issue. Ordered the new thermal switch on Amazon for $4.98, and it was delivered two days later. Installed that same day and now the dryer works great. I spent hours in Sunday trying to resolve the issue with error light. Bonus fact is that the entire dryer has been cleaned inside and out! Thank you so much!
Glad the video helped you. Initially i spent a day scratching my head also. Then i had to pull schematics out. Yes, for a few dollars you saved a thousand bucks. Well, thanks for watching again.
Holy crap. I’ve been searching for troubleshooting steps for our Duet for a day now. I don’t have a schematic to walk through the circuit. I’ve already ruled out the thermal switch, it tested good. I was going to start mucking with the motor tomorrow, I couldn’t “see” what was in series with the motor. I do know that our tensioner is in place and the pulley is there, however, I didn’t inspect it like this. Thank you so much.
Thanks this just saved me from having to buy a new dryer my pulley didn’t fall off but it’s all cracked and it was falling off and the the belt is all frayed
Thank you! I fixed mine for 25 bucks! I checked the thermal switch first just like you said and that wasn’t it, so I figured it was what you said, the tensioner. You helped save me money! I appreciate it! Also, someone’s comment about the dryer squeaking and it was their tensioner too, confirmed the problem. Now everything is working great!
Thanks for the video. This was exactly what I needed, as mine quit working, and all the sensors seemed to be working but I found the broken belt. I held up the tensioner arm and all works as it should.
First the pulley was squealing like a pig so oiled bit eventually got new one and replaced. While I had the back open unit was vacuumed and cleaned and the vent flex pipe was cleaned. Its like a brush on a stick that goes onto a drill and it is now looking like the day it was installed, all fresh and clean. Everything put back together and now the unit won't start... So I flipped the breaker and reset... Not sure if door sensor, thermal fuse, or tensioner sensor but I need to give my aging back and knees a break before moving everything out again and removing back cover. Not my first appliance I've needed to fix but this one is about to end up next to the road with a free sign on it as it has one issue after the next
Great video! I’m stumped on mine. Door switch seems okay, thermal fuse, thermistor, and thermostats are good or replaced. Tensioner system is in place and appears working. I had a lot of lint inside dryer cabinet even though rear venting was clear. Read the interior seals are crummy on some of these duet models.
Another thing I'll add. After I replaced the broken belt it was turning very slowly. I had to spray WD40 on the "wheels" that are on the inside. You can see one above his finger at the 1 minute mark. I believe there were 4, two in the front and two in the back. After greasing these up it started spinning normally. I believe this is what snapped my belt. My tensioner was still intact. Hope that helps someone. Thanks!
Two time user! I had to solder the panel last year. Easy fix! Yesterday it quit again and discovered that the belt had broken. Also easy to fix. I didn’t know there was a tensioner switch. I do now! Thanks!
Also adding: None of the prior part numbers were actually my issue. When I got inside the cabinet my problem was a broken belt. The part number for this is: 661570V
Thank you for the tip I couldn't find my voltmeter so I found your TH-cam page the thermo switch was the issue $16 issue. Would really like to Thank you for your assistance salute.
Mine broke 3 times: 1st was the 12V DC Relay in the control board (left leg). It blew. 2nd was the thermal fuse attached to 2 light blue wires mentioned in this video 3rd was the Relay blew again, but this time the right leg. Replacing the relay needs to remove old relay from board, buy new relay, clean the board and put on new relay with some soldering work. Yes take your time and DIY and save yourself hundreds of dollars. Good Luck.
Having same issue with my Whirlpool WED7000DW1 I have no idea how to tell if it’s the drum belt, motor, the power button itself, the thermal switch, it can be all kinds of stuff. Anyone know?
Great video do you know anything about Samsung refrigerators.anything mechanical needs maintenance and like to do it all do you have a web page or a E-mail friend.
I have a GEW9250PW1 that doesn't light up at all, nothing. Not sure which board would be at fault. The thermo fuse is shot and one is on the way. Any ideas?
I have learned to keep extra belts, door clips and heating elements on hand for fast repairs. This is the first time the thermal switch has gone bad. Great video! Thanks!
What model number is this dryer? I have the same one, but I have no identifying model number on it. Nothing when you open the door and nothing in the manual. Having the same issue. I am wondering if the belt is bad enough (missing ribs and crumbles when I touch it) could it cause this to happen?
Hello. What do you mean by continuity with the thermo switch? Do you mean electric current? Can you acquire those on Amazon? Thanks for sharing this video tutorial, by the way! I am having the same problem. I will check it out to see which of these two issues causes it.
Mine turned out to be a broken belt - already replaced the pulley months ago. Thanks for the vid - encouraging for working on it again instead of dropping $1000 for a new one!
Thanks for posting. My dryer makes the same noise after pressing the start button. Also, did the wheel bearings squeal at all leading up to the failure?
I find the main control under the top of lid is usually blown. You can remove board from plastic assembly and see where board has shorted. Had that job today. Installed new board and it’s still powering on but not running.
Thanks a lot for your video. I had the exact same problem and now it's fixed. It's hard to believe that this critical pulley tensioner is made so cheaply, no wonder it breaks so easily !
Not hard to believe with a whirlpool. Mine has had the door seal fall out, the plastic door cover fall off, and now I'm looking at this video because the thing won't start.
Thanks for the video. This is exactly what happened to me. I put a bunch of wet items, including a few fleece blankets, that were too heavy (should have done an extra spin! 🙄), and it messed up the belt/pulley!
I have a whirlpool duet as well, but the buttons and knobs are completely different. Did not matter though, because the belt and tensioner were the same, and it was the same problem. Replaced the pulley and was good to go!
Thank you! Looks like I know what I'll be doing in the morning. Just fixed the washing machine and tomorrow the dryer. I'd rather not schlep to the laundromat..
Well I was lazy and rotated the drum manually counter clockwise to rotate the clothes backwards so I could reach for a specific item and heard a loud pop. Now the dryer has this problem you show in the beginning plus the drum spins freely. Hope it’s a simple fix once I take the back off and look.
I want to find you and give you a hug (in a socially distant sort of way 😂). Seriously, this JUST happened to our Duet. This is giving me a great game plan to address the issue. Great video!
Great video, thanks for sharing this info. My pulley is good and the whole belt system was recently replaced so it is likely the thermal switch or the fuse on mine. How do I know which is the problem?Do I need to put a multimeter across to test and if so what should I be looking for in terms of amps?
I have excatly the same issue and I can't seem to find the problem still. Belt is good , wheel is good , everything is on. Thermal fuse good, and all other thermostats. I did the diagnose test as you did and the all passed but still not running. Although the sensor passed I don't know how to test the move sensor harness. But it passed the test. No error messages display on my unit. It's a Kenmore Elite HE4 smartheat quietpak9 electric dryer part no.8527830 and seems to have same diagnose and layout as yours. Any advise or help would be much appreciated. My door latch is good to and light works too on it. Power is on and all buttons works as normal but when I click start. Does the click sound turning on and off but won't spin or start any drying cycle. Been trying to figure this out door a week now and I can't find the problem.
So the issue with mine is that it spins little to none( place in 2 towels and it stops spinning ) and I can't figure out why any suggestions thank you in advance your help is greatly appreciated
Mine was the burnt/popped solder on the back of the board. If you have the problem it's very obvious when you take the board out and turn it over. I just put some soider on it and started working again I guess we'll see how long it lasts
If someone can help you just push the dryer a little backwards or rather lift up a little. There are two screws right at the bottom, front side. I didn’t have help or anyone help me lift it. So i took a big screw driver and i put it at the bottom front to lift only 1/2”. That way the screws are easier to take off. Then when you remove the screws just pull the cover.
You have to remove it and check for continuity with a multimeter. If u cant do that check the back. If the tension is there then the thermal fuse is bad.
@@kissingbanditt Thanks for the help, I just replaced the thermal fuse and it is working now. Thought it was going to be harder to replace but it wasn't. This video helped out when I needed it and saved us some money.
Hi there, I have a problem on my duet dryer. The power button wont work but the light is on when I open the door. Do you what cause and how to fix it. Thanks
I never ever seen that before. I could guess a control board issue possibly? So, you power on and put your clothes inside. You close the door, you push start and what happens? If i understand you correctly you are doing that and there are no lights until you open the door? if so, i have no clue at all. If that happened to me, id be replacing a control board or make sure the wiring harnesses are hooked up good. Hope this helped.
I have the exact same washer and dryer. My problem though is my power button to my washer. The power button seems to be stuck so I can't even turn it on and the door it locked so I cannot get my wet clothes out. Any suggestions on how to get the door to unlock? Iv asked help but people just say unplug and turn it back on but I can't because the power button to turn it on won't work
Thanks for the tip! Ended up being a broken belt. Wife was IMMEDIATELY on the computer looking at a $700 dryer. I was like, AH HECK NO! So I bought a kit that included a belt, a tension wheel and metal arm…..$15.00!!!!! Take that wife!!!! A tip for everyone, while you’re in there, remove the drum and give it a good vacuum.
I have the exact same problem. It started tonight. I hear the click when I press start. Will pull the machine out this weekend to view the wheel tensioner. However, my diagnostic code states an F50. Which could be the water valve or PCB. WoW. So much to look at. But buying all parts and doing it myself (as I researched two years ago and fixed my thermal fuse) had a repairman replace the heating element two years ago. I figure if I replace the tensioner (if needed) the water valve (if needed) AND the PCB, it will all still be cheaper than a brand new one.
You know it happened to me once. Unplug it. Remove the bottom filter at the front. Unscrew it. Water will come out so have towels or a bucket. Plug it back in. Your washer gives out codes. What codes do you see? If still issue go to main board and unplug and plug back in. Clean connections. Try again.
I looked up how to use my low spin instead of just no spin cycle. However there’s a low spin that won’t light up! I have to hold my start button down for a couple of seconds for it to engage unlike this model. American made it has lasted forever 2007. This looks a little different but similar and mine looks newer. I love mine! I tried a GE combo at a hotel that we were staying in. I will never buy one if mine falls apart ever I will be buying another whirlpool no combos I think that was probably the problem it would not open even after doing the reset mode, I had to finally be unplugged by the maintenance because they had to move it to be in plugged in there very heavy. Otherwise, my sons jeans that cost thousands of dollars would’ve been stuck in that machine forever if it had been at my home, I never would’ve been able to get it unplugged because my plug is on the ground and they’re too heavy to move by yourself at least for me as a female I can move them around a little bit but I can’t move them completely for like that just happened I would need like a dolly. Lol. Good luck. Not quite sure what’s wrong with that but I’ve only had a tiny leak in my drum and it was fixed in two seconds.
i was searching multiple places and couldn't get a "tell me like a 5 years old". thank you so much
Sir, Perfect. I opened up my dryer. pulled the thermo and it was open. I am ordering the part now. Thanks a Ton.

Great video! I was scared to death to attempt! But, not now! Thanks
THANK YOU!! How do I get the front off to check on the thermo? Thanks!
Bottom front left and right are two screws. Remove them and pull panel out.
Thanks for watching.
What does it mean if on a Samsung dryer it has a d80 on it and is blinking the flow sense light? I don't know what it means 😕
You're Ready to do Appliance Repair and Flipping . you know alot 👍🇨🇦
We have the same dryer, doing the exact same thing. Going to check it out today.
How do you remove the lower bottom panel that you already show taken off
If someone can help you just push the dryer a little backwards or rather lift up a little. There are two screws right at the bottom, front side. I didn’t have help or anyone help me lift it. So i took a big screw driver and i put it at the bottom front to lift only 1/2”. That way the screws are easier to take off. Then when you remove the screws just pull the cover.
I have the same problem but how do you know if it's the thermal fuse?
You have to remove it and check for continuity with a multimeter. If u cant do that check the back. If the tension is there then the thermal fuse is bad.
@@kissingbanditt yeah the tension is still intact. So I guess it's the thermal fuse. Thanks for the help.
@@gcj408 yes. There are two of them. You will see them when you remove the front bottom cover.
@@kissingbanditt Thanks for the help, I just replaced the thermal fuse and it is working now. Thought it was going to be harder to replace but it wasn't. This video helped out when I needed it and saved us some money.
@@gcj408 im so happy to hear that. Good!!!! Glad you saved money. I appreciate your support.
Does the ring go between the pulley and tensioner or between the pulley and the triangle piece?
Did you figure it out? Im trying to fix mine aswell but idk how to install 😖
Hi there, I have a problem on my duet dryer. The power button wont work but the light is on when I open the door. Do you what cause and how to fix it. Thanks
Thanks! I fixed my dryer with an 8 dollar part ❤️
I do not believe you untill i see that video 😀👍
That little metal piece popped off 😮 can a new one be purchased?
Dont think so. But im not 100%. Leaning more on NO.
Great video, right to the issues and the repair. Thanks
The thing that's wrong with mine is nothing else is working but when I open the door the lights come on. So what's the issue if you can help
Is this also a washer i need help quick
I have the exact same washer and dryer. My problem though is my power button to my washer. The power button seems to be stuck so I can't even turn it on and the door it locked so I cannot get my wet clothes out. Any suggestions on how to get the door to unlock? Iv asked help but people just say unplug and turn it back on but I can't because the power button to turn it on won't work
Unplug it from the wall. Pull out the cord. Wait 5 min and plug it back in. Hope it works for you.
🤣🤣
I have the exact same problem. It started tonight. I hear the click when I press start. Will pull the machine out this weekend to view the wheel tensioner. However, my diagnostic code states an F50. Which could be the water valve or PCB. WoW. So much to look at. But buying all parts and doing it myself (as I researched two years ago and fixed my thermal fuse) had a repairman replace the heating element two years ago. I figure if I replace the tensioner (if needed) the water valve (if needed) AND the PCB, it will all still be cheaper than a brand new one.
I have the same problem but with the washer machine from the same brand and model do ypu have a video of how to fix it? thank you in advance
Try again.
Thank you so much for your video, it helped me a lot. I completed this task succesfully.
Glad it worked out for you. Thanks for watching!!
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to help us.
Thanks for watching and glad you got it working.
Mine was throwing the f:24 code so i replaced the inlet thermistor and fuse and neither helped. any ideas?
My Dutch is giving me a PF code is there any way to rest it
