I had to learn all of that on my own. Trial and error I suppose. My #6 is when things get sketchy and you' think you might fall, get lower on your board. Makes it harder to fall, and when you do fall it hurts less because there's less distance between your butt/face and the ground and sometimes if you're tucked in you can just roll right back onto your feet without stopping.

Tip number 1.5: learn how to push and ride switch, so you can go up the chairlift in your regular stance and switch stance equally. This reduces the cumulative strain that can build up on one leg and cause overuse injuries if you ride say 50+ days in a season.
I suggest to always go switch whenever in a non chair lift, especially if your doing them multiple times a day, strain will balance out with riding, giving rest to pain whenever in the other stance.
2:23 being worried about gettin wet just sitting in the snow, when I'm about to deepdive the snow when I eventually catch the edge. thanks for advice ;)
And when riding the chair, if you’re riding goofy foot, get on the left side of the chair. For a regular stance rider, get on the right side. This will minimize crossing the tails of your boards
Great tips! #2 - wearing a butt pad keeps me bum from getting cold, although I almost always stand when putting my back foot in the binding. Also helps when stopped and waiting for the rest of the group if you're riding with friends that may be a bit slower. Also, when making a shelf, always make certain you aren't spraying somebody else with the snow you're moving around. ;)
I knew a few of these already, but great to see the refresher. I'm a big fan of putting in while standing up, so I routinely dig a little shelf where I can stay still for a few moments. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for the tips! My nephew had a really hard time getting up last year because he had a bit more weight in the trunk, if you know what I mean :P Will definitely try. Yesterday was my first day of snowboarding. I loved it. Even if your hot, wear a layer. A long sleeve compression shirt would’ve made today much more comfortable as I am now sunburnt. Up to my elbows and all along my face
Hey I did that first hack instinctively all on my own today lol. I was riding with my instructor and I was like why you just letting it dangle 😆 it's so much more comfy to rest your board on the other foot! Then after that the rest of my genius instincts fell all down hill, literally 😆
I switched to Flow bindings and that changed the game for me, especially for Midwest snowboarding (lots of short runs). A few seconds on the top of the hill, back binding up, you're rolling. Almost parity with the skiers.
My wife just got me some flow bindings for Christmas (yes, I know it’s now Xmas yet. We’re bad at this, but good at marriage) Those things are fantastic, I saved so Much time at the start of the runs. I love ‘em
@@justjuan589 For real. At the top of every one I pass probably the 2-3 chairs ahead of me while they are sitting on the ground strapping in. I love it.
Recently I’ve started just slightly digging my heel side edge downhill to strap in. Apparently I can’t make the shelf because I always end up sliding away before I’m completely strapped in 😂
When you're digging your heel edge in make sure your nose and tail is level across the slope.Once you put pressure on your foot which is already strapped in and if you feel it sliding readjust your nose higher or lower to level the board up.Take your time and practice........
I just realised that not all chairlifts in the world have some space to rest the board. In Spain every single one has it and its a huge relief cause there are very long lifts
Hack 6: When beeing unstrapped with the backfoot and you need to cover some distance -> Instead of skating with the backfoot on the frontside edge, simply skate on the backside edge while placing the weight on the heels of the front foot. much more efficient and faster
For #5 the easiest way for me to stand up from sitting is 1. bring the board close to you 2. Lean to your dominant foot 3. Put your hand close to your dominant foot 4. Push up and lean on dominant foot. Works like a charm 🫡
Re tip #1. Resting the sharp edge of your snowboard on the boot will destroy it with time. I have a pair of K2 boots to prove it. Use the rear part of the bindings for this purpose. Ha, ha! I should have listened to the end before posting. Good advice.
Brooooo 🤯 We Brazilians have no snow so we pay a lot to travel to a ski station to get there and just fall after fall hahahah this video help me a lot. I hope next time I do better. Grettings from Brasil!
Moral of the story.... snowboarding isn't for the obese. I'm a 270lbs guy and consider myself an intermediate rider (blues and some blacks). Hard to strap while the belly is on the way lmao. To eliminate strapping up while standing I ended up getting rear entry bindings (flow nx) and it made life so much easier ;D. Life goals to lose 50lbs by year end lol. Keep on shredding!
How's the weight loss going? Your post was 9 months ago. Should be at least half way through your goal. I'm here to check up on your determination 😂. Remember, just a few lbs a month will still do.
There is a very important addition to hack#2 It's about safety on a steep slope. it is necessary to make an equally deep shelf in the snow under the second boot. therefore, you push the snowboard to the distance of your stance along the edge and once again make a shelf for the board under your foot, which is strepped up the binding. before strepping the second binding, the snowboard will stand securely on two steps, under each foot.

I just started snowboarding again last week since middle school. I got the riding part down. What do you suggest when learning how to carve. I’m having issues clipping edges when going from toe to heel
Hard to say without watching you board. But, when I see people with this issue they are often doing something called counter rotating. Also you will need speed to carve so if you don't have enough speed it's difficult to change edges. Practice flat 360 spins on a green for edge control.
