    Good job! That's just what us plumbers do. The tapered oblong seat wrenches work well too for stripped seat, The trick to not stripping them is to hold a strong forward pressure when removing the seats the first time. Also tapping the wrench lightly before turning them seems to break them free.

    Thanks for making this video. I have two seats that won’t come out with the faucet seat tool. You saved me a few trips to HomeDepot. Thanks again. God bless.

    Thanks a million!!!! I was so happy when that sucker came out! My hot water seat was so old and already stripped when I bought the house (as is). My water had been leaking for a long time because I bought the tool to remove it before I found out it was stripped. I had no clue how to remove it. My house was built in the 1950's, so a lot of things are very old. I am trying to fix up as much as possible by myself and this was a life (and money) saver, Thanks again

    I really want to Thank you for this video... I have been replacing the rubber washers for years and years and the one place I bought the new valve stems never sold me any seats with the valves. I had no idea... then I go to Home Depot and they sell me the stem with the seat. I buy the tool and strip it and say eff it, been replacing the seals forever I gave up for a while let it leak it ruined the damn wood and more behind it... so I am saving for the money to re-do the bathroom and I say to myself this time, let me search you tube see if anyone has any way to remove this SOB'ING VALVE STEM SEAL!!! and I find YOUR VIDEO. I get the screwdriver bang it in and the thing comes out. I ain't no plumber nor do I want to be... I hate plumbing. But let me post this... You just saved my ass big time with this video... THANKS A MILLION and GOD BLESS YOU mann... seems silly for some to post this but mannnnn I am broke and cant afford to pay anyone to do it and this saved my ass so much. Thanks again.

    Just did this today. I was a little hesitant and not sure if it would work because of the age of my house, built 1958. I too tried to use the 6point wrench. Turns out, the seats did not have a square or hex setting. Used the screwdriver and both seats came out just using hand turn. I used break free vs wd40, not sure if it was even needed. I was about to pull the tile and backing and replace the entire setup. Home Depot did not have the seats but a smaller local plumbing store did. For those with homes older than the 80s, start with the local guys first. New seats and gasket cost me $7. Thank you!

    Thank you so much. I finally go the seat removed with your video. At first I was afraid to hammer too hard. So I tried the old WD-40!!! Left it for about 10 minutes, then hit a little harder with the hammer cause I'm annoyed now and wow the seat is out!! I was about to call my plumber ($100 to walk in the door)

    I thank you. This worked for me, I was almost ready to quit.. I was able to remove the old seats with a seat wrench and a hammer. Then eventually they broke loose and started turning. Probably been in the faucet since the 1950s.

    A #6 bolt extractor works better.
    Will cost you about 9.00 at the auto parts store, they are used to remove snapped bolts from engine blocks.
    I tried the "screwdriver trick" on one in my shower and it just stripped the seat more.
    The bolt extractor took it right out.
    For sink faucets you may need a smaller size, get the biggest one that fits.

    • @kjlong420
      @kjlong420 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Yvonne Watkins You can do it. Get a large screwdriver. Or get someone to help. I been depressed and more thinking I needed a whole new bathroom. I aint no plumber. I been changing the rubber rings forever. Thinking one day I will rip it apart and do it. The plumbing place never sold me any seats while back.. recentlyI finally go to Home Depot for another new stem they sell it with the seat and stem. I try again and stripped it way back 4 years ago but until now I finally said let me do a search on youtube to see if anyone has any tricks to get this out. I followed it, sprayed it first let it sit, sprayed it again after like 10 minutes let it sit, then tried it and it worked... took a little effort but it came out just like in the video... I cant believe this whole thing been going on for me for 15 years. Till today. I am both happy and pissed. It leaked so long I gave up sometimes and it ruined the wood and all. All cause no plumber wanted to tell me how to to it. SOB's. I thank God and people who have money have no clue what its like trying to even fix a shower or tub when it leaks. I sure do... anyway ... you can do it or get someone to help you and watch it here it works...

    YOU ARE THE BOMB. I had replaced all my leaking faucets and then when trying to proactively replace my not yet leaking cold tap - found a stuck and degraded seat. (that's what I get for trying to be proactive) Was STUMPED with limited tools in my possession. This video was great - and it worked! What did single moms do when trying to fix things before TH-cam and folks like you? Thank you!

    Bought and replaced stems yesterday. Leak didn't stop. Now I know it's the seats. Couldn't get the seat wrench to bite so now I will try your solution. I read about this solution but seeing it in action has given me confidence. I will report back later once I am successful in fixing these seats.

      +Mark Blewett Your technique worked like a charm! I was a little tentative on hammering the screwdriver into the seat, so I took a smaller screwdriver and inserted it into the hole so I could gauge how far it went until it hit the inside back of the pipe. Then I knew what I was dealing with and pounded away with the larger one. Once I got the screwdriver set, the seats came out perfectly. No more leaks~!!!! THANKS~!

    Using your method of a large blade screwdriver worked fine. But I had to tweak it a bit. I used a torch to heat the backside of the faucet valve where the frozen seat was located. Physics gets the credit. After heating really intensely and letting it cool 3 times (working in the Zen). I actually stopped for lunch, trying to remain confident. The last time I tapped the screwdriver in rather firmly and with a good direct angle, it squeaked a bit as your had dne, then turned as if it was totally free. Yea. Now I can be more relaxed while U rehabilitate the stems. Thanks for getting me started. T

    To help in turning the screwdriver handle, cinch up a crescent wrench on the screwdriver's square shaft and use the wrench as an additional handle for leverage. That is why Craftsman screwdrivers have the square shaft.

      @kedgwell ปีที่แล้ว

      I've used the EZ Out with sink faucets but never on a shower valve. I can't see how stable it is behind the tile. Did you whack it in hard or gently? Did you use penetrating oil on the seat first?

    • @dennisrobinett7582
      @dennisrobinett7582 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kedgwell No penetrating oil used. Just applied firm, steady pressure and it popped loose.

    • @kedgwell
      @kedgwell ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. So you're saying you never used a hammer on the EZ Out -- you just pushed it in?

    • @dennisrobinett7582
      @dennisrobinett7582 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kedgwell that’s right. I was afraid to use a hammer for fear of breaking the faucet or a copper connection behind the wall. I did use my biggest crescent wrench to get adequate leverage. So and easy here was my theory.

    • @kedgwell

    The long straight seat-removal tool is the best option to remove and replace seats ... and they only cost about $8. (Don't use an Allen wrench to remove a seat. Unless it's a tight fit, you run the risk of rounding out the hole, as the seat hole is not an exact square ... it's a rounded square with tiny notches in each corner). The correct removal tool is properly tapered to ensure a tight fit. You insert it, give it a light tap with a hammer, then use a regular wrench to turn it and unscrew the seat. With corrosion, etc. seats can sometimes be a little tricky to remove, so just squirt some WD-40 around the old seat to help the process. To aid installation (and future removal) of the new seat, just use a little plumbers grease around the threads.

    The hammer inspired me to use the seat wrench tapped in with a hammer to remove the striped seat. Using a combination wrench for extra leverage the seats came right out.

    I had some luck with pounding the seat removal tool in then twisting. This way looks good too
