Before the show, I focus at infinity, or use AF on an object near to where I think the fireworks are going to be. Then at the beginning of the show I fine-tune with Live View. I use back-button focusing, so essentially that’s like being in manual focus. Since I don’t have focus-on-shutter-press turned on, I’d forgotten people could run into AF problems. I’ll add a note to the video. Thank you!

What a clever way to simulate an actual shooting condition. Thanks for thinking outside of the box on this one. I will be shooting this year from a lit parking lot, instead of a pitch black location. Will that have much bearing on my results?
Looks terrific - exactly what I need to be prepared. Nikon d7100 failed last year (operator error)... so now that I understand why, the shots should be much better this year.
You can use your hat..or the lens cover..to cover the lens right? Some of the Olympus OM's have a way to see the live view while you are leaving the shutter open in bulb mode...so you can see the exposure while it is happening, that way you can focus as your taking the shot.
At F11 or so, focus isn't really very important. F11, 200MM APS-C sensor hyperfocal distance is 176 metres. Focus at 180 metres, everything from 90 metres to the milky way is good.
30'00"m shutter time and that's it. Turn it at other fireworks at 15'00" and make them blend into 1 photo. 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀✌🎆🎇✨ Enjoy my idea with your p900 and or p1000 NIKON!!
is it possible to take HDR shots? , for instance if you take a RAW image, you can split that up into 3 different photos set to different exposures, than make a HDR from those composites on photomatix or some other program. Would make the colors pop a lot more and creates a nice colorful glow to the surrounding surfaces. But i guess it might depend on how much light is available

Is it possible to shoot fireworks with a Canon T6 w/ out the bulb mode? If it is possible what shutter speed, ISO, Apeture, and Exposure would you suggest
You can go into aperture priority and set the ISO and aperture so that the shutter speed is at least 10-15 seconds long, then use the black glove\card idea he showed. But the T6 has a bulb mode. Why wouldn't you use it? Just get the wired remote shutter release and you can lock the shutter open for as long as you want.

Thanks for this video, appreciate it. In Calgary we have our Stampede every year and this year is # 100 and on the first weekend and second weekend, there are 3 days each (so 6 total) of fireworks in the evening. Going to have some opportunity to try out pics. And that 'focus' tip is really neat.

some people also change the zoom during the exposure ~ this could also create some interesting effect
