A Texan in Paris - anxious to see what I can capture tonight! Very pleased with photos of illuminated Eiffel Tower and fireworks. Varied aperture from f11 to f22, using shutter speeds between 2 and 4 seconds. Fireworks not impressive, but very pleased with the images. Used one-month old Nikon D500 with AF-S 14-80 mm lens and corded shutter release on tripod. Thank you very much for the lesson! New subscriber now!
You are very welcome, there are a few videos I've put together featuring the D3400 so make sure you check them all. Please also consider subscribing - and thanks for watching! Paul @ Photo Genius 👍
I am going to shoot some fireworks photos tonight. I am using two cameras only because I want to set one up for full fireworks shots and the other for trails of light off the fireworks. I will let you know how they turn out good or bad. you had some great tips so I am going to experiment a little.
Many thanks for the great tips Paul,I've had some great shots on Guy Fawkes night here in UK.However I don't know if I'm missing something,if you set camera on bulb you have an exposure 1,2 3 hours etc but if you use the infrared trigger it only has an on setting of 15 minutes it then switches off.If your going for a 1 hour exposure the trigger switches off you have to reset tiny touching the camera therefore spoiling the shot.Have you any thoughts about this ?
Your videos are great, I've made some notes from a few of them so far, and I'm excited to try capturing fireworks tonight for the first time! I have a Nikon D3500, you helped me make that purchase decision, and i'm very happy with it (first time DSLR'er) :)
Thanks Paul, that was really clear and helpful. I was actually looking for instructions on how to activate blinking highlights on my Canon T6...no luck so far. Any ideas?
When reviewing your images press the info button. You should see a smaller version of your image displayed along with the camera settings that you used for the image. If the image is overexposed then the highlights will blink / flash. If you have not overexposed then you will not see any blinking highlights.
Hi Paul, can you help me get the right remote for my camera. I have a Rebel T7 (2000D). All I can find on Canon website is the RC-6 Controller. The RC-6 compatibility list do not include my camera. Which one should I get?
Hi Marcus. I don't have a 2000D, but from memory I believe on the side of the camera body there is a port where you can plug in a wired remote. Canons website lists the RS-60E3 as being compatible. The wireless RC-6 will not work. Hope that helps - thanks for watching.
Assuming you want a sharp image then I would definitely aim for a faster shutter. In the dark you will therefore need to push the ISO and use a lens with a as wide aperture. Thank for watching.
Hi Kylie. This video features tips, it features the older D3400 but most of the tips should translate to other cameras : th-cam.com/video/WzAJkr5qnPw/w-d-xo.html
Feature a D300 in the video. You can make the same changes with the dial on the D3200. Shutter speed : turn the dial Aperture : turn dial whilst holding down exposure comp (+/-) button ISO : turn dial and hod down Fn (function) button Hope that helps. Paul @ Photo Genius
Honestly, I gave this a thumb down. Great video, great speech BUT suggesting to try shutter priority, using a delay timer and using the built-in long exposure timer was just bad. I understand this video was made for beginners but this isn't the way to do it. You probably confusing them more than you should.
I appreciate your comment Chris, thank you. Hopefully my viewers will not find the video confusing as I think I explain things clearly. I also have to say that using the 2 second timer is (in my opinion) a good option, especially if you don't have a remote. Best wishes, Paul @ Photo Genius.
Why am I always looking at these kind of videos the night I want to use the technique.
Better late than never 😀
The most straight forward, no nonsense explanation on how to take pictures of fireworks at night! Greatly appreciated!!
Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and will stop by again soon - lots more coming 🙂
Best wishes, Paul @ Photo Genius

I learned a lot of your videos sir thank you👍😉
How about Focal length!! You missed to talk about this. I think in mode “M” it should set on Infinity. Kindly suggest please.
Focal length is differed to focus. Focal length will affect the field of view.
i will try this tonight thanks
Hope you had fun and got some great photos 👍
Good tips...will try it out
Thank you 😀
very good,thanks.

Using the kit lens, manual settings 5”, F/11, ISO 100 it worked perfectly for me last night! Thanks! ☺️
You are very welcome, glad to hear you got good results - thanks for watching.
thanks good info, I will try
👍 😀 Thanks for watching.
Tell something about focus point. should it be single point or auto area mode?
should it be dynamic or 3D?
Hi Javed, for fireworks I would select single point AFS.
Thanks for watching.
Thanks
great guide
Thank you Christian, I appreciate feedback and comments.
Paul @ Photo Genius.
I have a Nikon D3500. Should the stabilizer be off? And regarding Focus, it should be on AFS? Thanks for your informative and helpful videos!!
Thanks for your tutorial. How about white balance...?
Thanks for the good tips

Just use bulb mode. release and press when need to.
With just a black sky to focus on in manual....how do you do that? there's nothing to focus on?
Get pointers...about to take my D90 out on the balcony and try them.
The D90 is a great camera - hope you got some great shots.
Hii sir i loved your videos, i have a question can we use AI SERVO(canon camera) for lighting shots?
If you have a low shutter speed wouldn't the fireworks have lots of motion blur because they move quite fast
If you camera is on a tripod you would capture the trials of light as the fireworks explode.
Does this work in prime lens?
thanks :) , can I make good shots of the moon with d3400 & 18-140?
Whilst not impossible you would be better using a lens that’s at least 200mm.
ty :)
What AF mode should i put for the firework shot? One shot or AI servo for canon?
Hi Paul, any tips to catch the trail of fireworks? Please advise.
As long as the exposure is long enough you should catch the trials - I suggest 10-15 seconds would a good starting point.
hi! could you please suggest a wide angle lens for canon 700D?
Hi Rajesh, I've enjoyed using the Canon 10-18mm wide angle. Here's a link to fond out more : amzn.to/3EHycba
@@photogenius thanks a lot
Manual focus to infinity and back off a fraction.
Hi Paul, can you help me get the right remote for my camera. I have a Rebel T7 (2000D). All I can find on Canon website is the RC-6 Controller. The RC-6 compatibility list do not include my camera. Which one should I get?

Hi Paul how would I take photos of a moving Train at night. Would I use a faster shutter speed. Cheers
Assuming you want a sharp image then I would definitely aim for a faster shutter. In the dark you will therefore need to push the ISO and use a lens with a as wide aperture. Thank for watching.
Should I shoot this in live mode or viewfinder?
Either would work fine, go with feels best for you.
Thanks for watching,.
Would a monopod be just as good as a tripod? As where I'm going it's very busy not sure if there's room for tripod. Thanks any help
A monopod is not suitable for long exposures because there will be too much camera movement.
@@photogenius Actually it was ok using a monopod.
Hi,for the beginner's which cam u r prifering Nikon d5300 or canon eos200d
The 200D is better for video. 👍
Any tips for taking video..?
Hi Kylie. This video features tips, it features the older D3400 but most of the tips should translate to other cameras : th-cam.com/video/WzAJkr5qnPw/w-d-xo.html
@@photogenius Thanks very much.
is the stand important
its because i dont have one
A tripod is a must if you are going to shoot low light and night photos.
Paul.

But where to focus, by manual focus??
tienen los videos en espanor
i have a Nikon D3200, it seemed your using somthing better maybe a D700 or higher this didnt help with your dials on the back which i havent
Feature a D300 in the video. You can make the same changes with the dial on the D3200.
Shutter speed : turn the dial
Aperture : turn dial whilst holding down exposure comp (+/-) button
ISO : turn dial and hod down Fn (function) button

Paul @ Photo Genius
When you were telling us you was shooting in Shutter Priority you was already in Manual (4:49). Then you go on to explain Manual Mode!
How to Focus Fireworks
I think in the video I recommend setting up the focus first - probably manual focus is best here.
Hindi me a uwad kare
