The Legendary Edition was on sale a few days ago and I picked it up I gotta say I'm sad I didn't pick it up sooner, I'm having an absolute blast with Mass Effect 1 and I can't wait to see what the games hold.
I'm just going to cash in my coupon for the inevitable 7 hour retrospective featuring Big Tuchunkus. Other than that, and without comedy this time, even as a completely outside observer I can see clearly how this series is so beloved, and your streams on it have been an absolute blast.
I think Mass Effect 2's lighting is fine. It's very dark and very red and gives the game it's own identity. Mass Effect 3 is very blue greyish and a bit more lit up. Which also gives it's own identity. ME1 is just kinda there, colorful and innocent. Stripping either game of it's feeling and mood would be a disservice to any of them. A remaster should improve the lighting and textures but never ruin the original mood.
You are not missing anything by not playing Pinnacle Station, it's just a barebones arena with a few rewards that are unimportant. There's a funny reward at the end but you can literally just check online to see it, it's not like you can do a lot with it. Oh, great video by the way.
Although I won't be picking this up, I will be recommending this version to friends of mine who've not played Mass Effect yet. Cool to see you'll be doing one of your big retrospectives on the series in the future. Dare I ask if Andromeda is going to be part of it? Edit; you said so at the end. I really should comment after watching videos

I also had the same frame-drop on the virmire level, and tried the same things you did. And just like you, it went away once I progressed far enough. Sounds like that bit missed the polishing. Overall I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of ME Legendary edition, and hope your review can inspire more gamers to give my favorite series a try for themselves.
The character creator is alright wished there was more beards I changed how I looked slightly between 1 and 2 mostly haircut, went back to my original in 3 but the pre rendered brought over shep looked nothing like my shep from 1 and 2 so I had to edit it some
I actually had the exact same ai pathing issue on feros as you did, the guy down by the water pipes said his piece and then garrus would not move from that spot, definitely an issue with his dialogue as your guys were in the exact same spot just refusing to move
Honestly by the end I absolutely hated the ME3 multiplayer/firefight mode since the game effectively forced you to constantly play it to maintain the war readiness and get the good endings. It was fun but became repetitive very quickly, it'd be a nice add on to the legendary edition as long as they don't try to reintegrate it into the campaign, because I don't want to be forced to play it on future playthroughs.
Yeah, likewise. I enjoyed the multiplayer and certainly wouldn't mind seeing it back but if they decide to put it back in I hope they disconnect it from the War Assets.
Great video man!!! 👍I remember dabbling with ME 1 & 2 back in the X360/PS3 days. Played a little ME1 on x360 and I didn't like it. Then played a little ME2 on ps3 and absolutely loved it. Then my ps3 broke 🤬 . So now I've just purchased the legendary edition on PS4 for a bargain £23 on ps store!! I'm about 8 hours into my play through of ME1 and it's amazing I love it, so I'm stoked to have the whole trilogy in front of me in its upgraded form 👌
honestly in ME1 i don't think skill mattered for a weapon as much as mods. The notorious thing being the explosive round mod which basically broke every weapon that had range and had super good damage even if you didn't put skills in. Honestly tho i wouldn't mind if they just made it like ME3 was where guns were just excellent , they took everything good about ME2s improvements and improved them and got rid of most of the downsides and added a good modding system. I would honestly have loved to see them give atleast an option for a consistent weapon system/arsenal across the games or at the very least a heat clip system as early as ME1 maybe via mid to late weapons or a side quest if not just a checkbox option. Yeah in ME3 the war rating should have honestly been optional as far as it being tied to multiplayer goes imo. Given the reaper lore i still think its BS that you even can "win" in any scenario and they should have just given ppl false hope from the start. Imho the only "good" ending would have been that you you damage the reapers so much and that those "message in a bottle" things you make you end up spreading far enough by extensively visiting places that the next cycle is in a far better condition early on and reapers weakened enough that they manage to break it. Would have been interesting if it ended up that the games are just a reconstruction of the "shepard" legend in the next cycle and the kid that you see in cutscenes is just experiencing em.
Bought legendary edition on the 26th or May about 2 weeks on and I'm in the early game of mass effect 3 and I'm loving it, I played the me 3 demo when it came out and was too young to get into it
Yeah when it comes to shooter RPG elements, I think its simplest to just give the trained people bonuses, instead of kneecapping the untrained classes. Just give the soldiers some +firerate% or +%headshot damage or Reloadspeed and so on.
something to note for pc players (not sure if this is mentioned), there isn't an FOV slider so if you want more than 70 you'll need to mod it. it is very easy though so shouldnt stop anyone from playing :)

Y'all, this is an absolute MUST for ALL console owners that are fans of the series . For me, personally, the retail price is worth it alone for the first game remastered. They did EVERYTHING I wanted as quality of life improvements to make this game playable. For those of you who don't remember, Mass Effect 1 plays a lot like KOTOR and less like a 360 game. Now it feels modern enough to actually play. In January 2020 I tried replaying Mass Effect 1 on my Xbox One X and I just couldn't believe I ever completed the game in 2007 due to it playing like an Action RPG released on the OG Xbox. The story, dialogue, universe, world's, choices are legendary in the first game and now I can enjoy it as a more mature adult.

I'm someone who didn't like ME1 back in the day because the combat was so janky on PC, enough to completely mask the fact that there was an epic story about to unfold. Never could get to where that would happen because I couldn't deal with the combat and brain dead squad mates. It's so much better with a controller and the updated UI and squad AI.
For ME2 and 3 the casual or narrative mode is easier with some bosses almost too easy (I play for story and not combat challenge). The fugly dress for FemShep is still there unfortunately. Really enjoyed all the texture and graphics changes in ME1.

Morrowind reminds me so much of the unfair Minecraft mod call RLCraft. The biggest flaw about this mod is that I cant attack enemies in the required level or break blocks.
The scale of the downgrades to the core visual style and presentation of ME2 in particular are so severe I'm baffled why no one is talking about it more.
I can tell you now, Pinnacle Station added nothing. The only reason to play it was for early credits. It SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKED and offered no actual story. If you played the Citadel DLC in 3, the fighting arena is Pinnacle Station, but better.
I always thinking ME2 has better graphics than ME3, now, finishing ME1 and ME2 in one roll, and now playing ME3 I am sure, ME2 looks better. sure, the combat in ME3 is much better in ME3 but, the looks, no, sorry, ME2 wins.
The first game had the BEST combat. ME2 just became a generic shooter. The first game had a good mix of RPG elements. I'm tired of people saying ME2 was the best of the series. Outside of ME2's final act, the first game was better in every way
Four reasons I can see; One, better acting (in this case certainly relevant, no offense to Mark Meer, solid performance, but Jennifer Hale is a freaking voice acting legend), two, the female role can get a better story (not really the case for Mass Effect but can be for other games, Dishnored 2 is far more narratively satisfying as Emily than Corvo), three, people don't always want to play a character that's like them (I certainly wouldn't want Shepard's life in general, though bits of it might be nice) and four, just to be crass, if I'm going to spend hours of a game with a camera behind someone's arse it might as well be an arse I like looking at.
The MAKO shit still sucks. And I can’t believe Andromeda brought that back. And is why I won’t touch it lmao. But even that being said. Legendary Edition has been the best purchase I’ve made in the past year. I’ve got months of content now and I’m a first timer on this so. here goes!

The missing dlc pinnacle station was nothing more than an arena challenge room. It threw waves of simulated enemies at you and had NO story involved
That's what I always assumed (part of the reason I never got it when I could) and a few people now have confirmed as much in comments.
I will miss the Geth rifle it gave though, I guess this leaves room for mods for Geth-Adoreres like me

I've heard of Mass Effect since I was a teenager but never played it until the release of Legendary Edition. It was worth it.
