Suicide Mission in ME2 is still one of the best moments in the series. I think it would be a good idea if you made a video summarizing your thoughts on the series as a whole after you played through ME3. While story is still good, it becomes obvious it wasn't planned that far ahead and there are some noticeable plot points that were abandoned. So it might be interesting to talk about it.
The Suicide Mission is one of the best constructed set pieces in gaming history. So many moving parts, absurd player choice. If ME2 was RPG-lite in everything else, it would be a RPG for the Suicide Mission alone.
@@shawngillogly6873 I agree, very few moments from any game could be considered equal to Suicide Mission for me. Bioware have really outdone themselves there. Nothing from ME3 could top that, which was one of the reasons the expectations were so high (and some disappointment for me, even though I still consider ME3 as a very good game). Not sure if they would do something like this again, the amount of variables it created was certainly hard to implement. They might avoid it for future games (DA:I and ME:A were already light on possible deaths).
If only ME3 had an ending that was as planned and designed as the suicide mission. ME’s story and characters are my favorite in any video game so the badness of the ending is amplified for me and gets me depressed. I’m sure many people feel the same.
I like the complete version of Mass Effect 3 as much as 2. Yes, 3 was released in a bad state, but with the updated ending and all the DLCs it's a great game.
I never liked the start of Mass Effect 2, it just felt cheap, all those near death escapes from ME1 kind of lost the magic when shepard was so easly taken out. The Ending of ME3 was rushed and a drop in the experience quality in the last 30minutes kind of sucked. But everything in between is fantastic.
Something to note about the Weapons that is less apparent in the Legendary Edition. The Original Mass Effect had a ton of weapons in theory but in reality it had only 5-ish because all weapons within the same category behaved pretty much the same as they all had the same rate of fire, recoil, etc. The only exception was the Geth Pulse Rifle which behaved differently. They changed this in Legendary edition playing around with RoF, recoil, firing types, etc. So while ME2 seems to have less weapon variety than ME, originally this was not the case as all weapons were distinct from each other handling very differently.
If you consider Mass Effect 2 on it's own, it is an absolutely fantastic game, and isolated from the other games, a fantastic story. In retrospect, as the second story in a trilogy, I think the dramatic change from the story they set up at the end of ME1 and the huge changes in tone and theme really hurt the trilogy, and in a few ways may have forced some of the awkward story points in ME3. I mean, at the end of ME1, you have a main character who is unique due to the fact that they (and they alone) can interact with Prothean tech, who is also a Spectre, and can go places many others can't go, a crew member who is a specialist in Prothean history, and a ship that could go anywhere (either openly or by stealth). If, hypothetically, the Protheans were working on some hidden superweapon that could be used against the Reapers, or maybe they had more data they had collected during their century-long conflict with the Reapers, wouldn't finding either of those be the next story that makes the most sense after ME1? Is the information in the Terminus Systems? Well, the Council established in the first game that they don't want to risk a war with the Terminus by sending fleets or armies anywhere in those systems, sounds like something they would have to send a Spectre for. I still think the gameplay is much better in ME2, and I absolutely love how they integrated companions and their stories into the success of the mission in ME2.
I do agree that even if Mass Effect 2's RPG mechanics were dumbed down, the overall decision making was a lot better, with meaningful choices and consequences, which is one of the things that put ME2 above ME1 for me at least. I think it and Dragon Age Origins are probably my favorite in how they handle your choices throughout the story.
Gameplay and characters were improved in ME2. Everything else suffered. Open world aspects of the first game, freedom of exploration? Gone, replaced with single use shooting galleria levels. Main story? Barely there (very strong character stories though). Character progression? Dumbed down, comparable to what one can expect in a third person shooter... Uncharted worlds? Gone, replaced with scanning minigame.
@@CrazyChemistPL Both have their bad points. ME1 has the absolute worst side mission levels maybe any game ever has. Heck they're all made out of essentially from about three same templates that change very little. I completed them all and boy it was tedious.
@@jothain I complete them all each time I play that game, which at this point has to be around 10 times over. At least there is some variety in the prefabricated buildings crate layout. DA2 is I think worse with the same side mission areas copy pasted endlessly.
@@CrazyChemistPL The exploration wasn't very good to begin with, and Inquisition and Andromeda further prove that Bioware have no idea how to make proper open world games. The Mako was awful and annoying to handle, and the planets contained nothing of value to discover. Bioware failed to make the exploration interesting or meaningful, so they opted to remove it. As boring as the scanning mini-game is, I'm much rather have that.
@@vlad4o813 But that's just part of the issue. There are no open areas in ME2 and because of that each mission (because I cannot honestly use the term quest here, unlike ME1) is just a linear shooting gallery. I much prefer how ME1 did it. I actually enjoy driving the Mako, I find uncharted worlds interesting to speculate on what may end up happening on in the future and just simply being able to snipe things at 400m away is rewarding in itself. Just matter of taste I guess. I like ME2 but it is deeply flawed... As is every game in the series
Almost agreed with you the feeling I got from playing this randomass game that just came with my xbox when I was 14 being introduced to this universe for the 1st time was amazing I’m glad it was me2 beat it too many times but I remember after that waiting for me3 like my life depended on it watching these lore videos all night that @gamermd83 made prolly killed my early social development but some sacrifices were worth it had my group of nerds to wait with me3 is my favorite game it was so epic felt like the galaxy was ending at all times but the citadel dlc sealed it for me have more to say but this comment probably ridiculously long not gonna bother checking but I’ll stop here
The Mass Effect trilogy is one of those cases where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Each game is excellent and has its own strengths and weaknesses. But the overall trilogy just elevates the entire saga to a new level.
ME1 - We've developed railgun-style small arms that have no requirement for ammunition and its associated logistics issues. ME2 - We've developed a highly inefficient universal ammunition system that soldiers in combat will run out of in under two minutes. What a brilliant step forward for humanity...
Then in the third game there was one classic rifle that had regenerative ammo from ME1 and it became the most overpowered machine gun with some mods. It machine gunned harder than an actual machine gun.
Love that your reviewing my favorite franchise in gaming. No spoiler but some advice if u import a character from ME2 into ME3 u might want to retain ur powers so ur skill points are at 0 spent before u import them first.
I love'd this series so much, I understand how people were disappointed but for me I enjoyed it from beginning til end, and even more so after the endings were improved. I played ME1 3times, ME2 10times and ME3 more than that somehow, this series and especially ME3 has a special place in my heart.
ME2 is my favorite in the trilogy. I loved the companions and the loyalty missions a lot ❤ And I cried when I came to the end of Overlord. Doesn't often happen with me but I was so thrown off-guard by what you find. I had expected that you'd end up finding some sort of cyborg-esque corrupted AI "hivemind" but not...that
Great breakdown. I'm really looking forward to your companion video once you've completed the series. Can't wait to hear what you think of Legion and the interesting choices/backstory.
I bought the first mass effect a little after it came out on sell just for the fuck of it . I had never heard about it and I feel in love instantly . ME2 probably in my top five games ever .
I will always remember the first time I launched the suicide mission... I had totally missed the whole Normandy upgrade part, leading to it's total obliteration XD Then I bought ME1 and redid everything. That's how good the effect of this game was on me :)
lol this went from review vids to more? we got him guys! he's one of us! edit: not gonna spoil anything about 3, but i do ask you go in with an open mind. imo it is very overhated. its not perfect, but alot of the hate it received was largely for external reasons ( EA , go figure.) and the bandwagon went on from there. personally 2 is my favorite game of all time, especially in a vacuum, BUT when playing the trilogy as a whole , i enjoy 3 the most. also i reccomend finishing the citadel dlc before the final encounter, but i know others say the opposite.
Mostly the hate was from original ending, which was so bad they actually remade it. I played the original one too and don't think it's that bad. It kinda suits the atmosphere, but I fully understand why many hated it so bad. Especially since ending(s) where so similar, essentially the same.
@@jothain yeah man, was there lol. it was bad, but we've seen so much worse since then. my biggest problem was all the on disc day one dlc and less than 18 month dev cycle
This is one of my favorite games of all time. I still play it semi regularly like 1 run every year or something like that. Even though I know every nook and cranny I just love how it brings you in. It isn't very complex or anything it just has that draw that tbh is hard to pull off. Honestly about ME3 I do like it overall. Definitely things I don't like but overall great package plus I also play that game semi regularly as ME2.
Hey Mortismal! Glad you enjoyed the game! Can't wait for your review on ME3. Even though all ME2 dlc's were great, the Overlord is one of my favourite stories/quests in gaming up to this day. Having a brother with both physical and mental disabilities, this storyline hit too close and too hard. The feels were real and I can vividly remember it even after all these years.
I feel you. Even though I don't have family members or close friends with mental disabilities, Overlord's ending felt like the most genuine emotional moment in the entire series. And even though I really don't like the gameplay of that DLC very much, I can *never* skip it - and I finished ME2 *at least* 20 times. Also, no matter how evil a Shepard I play, never again can I choose the bad ending. I did it once and genuinely felt terrible for *days* ... Also, meeting David later in Grissom Academy in ME3 was just so heartwearming. "Suare root of 912.04 is ..." "30.2. I'm sorry, David!" 💔
All your videos are exceptional, but this one was especially great. I can see you put a lot of work into the production. It must have taken many hours. The game is now in my Stream Library, but I have not played it yet. I feel a strong sense of enthusiasm and excitement about following your lead. You used some nomenclature more common to game development professionals. For me, that is a highlight and one reason I follow your channel every day, and you are the only content producer who has that kind of focus from me. I look forward to your future reviews of ME3, storyline, and companion follow-up videos. That is a great and sharply-focused blueprint for future production. Thanks again for all you do.
Overlord makes me cry every time and I have lost track of how many times I've played through it, so it's been quite a few times. So no matter what else, a piece of art that can make you feel as deeply, even if it's not as deep for every person, is definitely something special. ME3 has some more scenes like that but they are either optional or not as potent. What Bioware understands more than any other company is the importance of people. We connect to people, even if they are fictional, even if they are animated and even if they aren't human. ME2 works so well because there are so many people to connect to (even if different players might connect to different NPCs).
My favorite ME. Felt like the most personal journey of the three. Also a very strong cast of characters. ME3 was decent; compared to part two it's the summer blockbuster game. I heard the final cut & DLCs improved it a lot.
Agree with most of your points particularly with progression systems, it’s like ME1 they weren’t sure where to go with it so went a broader rpg appeal, ME2 streamlined too much and ME3 falls into a comfortable middle ground. As for story, it is a dirty dozen story that focuses on the best aspect of Mass effect the companions which is this games strong suit. Anyway great review, I look forward to seeing what you think of the trilogy finale and your companions videos.
Love that u made these videos. Probably shouldn’t be spoiling myself at all by listening to this at work but I finally bought the legendary edition for the steam winter sale and I’m only now on noveria after going to feros on ME1. With 1440p this game is beautiful and I love the older style feeling story so far
The characters and voice acting and writing in ME2 elevate the experience to something higher than most games. Plus, the combat has its thrilling moments. There are so many little moments of combat in ME2 that I have clear memories of. For example, storming across the sky bridge in the Thane mission to reach the investor woman before him. The music is playing. The wind is whipping and the fabrics on the bridge and whipping and they are raining rockets down on you. That is just one example. Game was absolutely thrilling the first time I played it. Also the intro is a classic.
ME2 was the best game of the trilogy for me, massive improvement over the first game in terms of gameplay in combat, with a more focused story. The levels, while smaller than the first game, were better designed and felt much better than the ones in the 3rd game which felt more like linear corridors. I don't really like the paragon/renegade system though, as it actually discourages freedom of choice, rather than encourages it. You basically just go all blue or all red for a play through, there's no reward for choosing different options depending on the individual situation.
I really need to give this game a proper play through. I’ve tried it like 4 times now and never get off the first planet because of the constant dialogue. It always takes me 2+ hours to get off the Citadel due to dialogue and then that first planet has a ton of dialogue in the club, then your first combat mission is constant dialogue mixed in the combat. The pacing was just off to me. Hearing you feel this is more action focused, sounds like I haven’t given it a real chance. Really want to see what happens overall because I agree the lore is amazing. Thanks for another great video!
ME 2 is a great game...was my least favorite in the series. Liked ME 1 the best mainly because it introduced us to the ME universe and the new races , etc. Great review. Enjoyed it.
I remember being very disappointed in ME2. Loved ME1, still probably top10 all time games for me. ME2 just feels like a shooter with a lot of focus on companions I don't care about, took me like 6 months to finish, since I had to grind companion missions. I like the overall story of ME, not so much the companions. Plus I found the combat in ME1 one of the best ever (very janky ofc, but a fantastic core). I hear they destroyed the ME1 combat in the legendary edition though..
I hope you'll check out Mass Effect: Andromeda after completing the triology. IMO the game is solid in its own right, even exceeding in term allowing player the freedom to customize their character. Its downfall was the expectation of carry on triology story and disastrous launch so it was rarely seen in a good light.
ME 2 is my first game and I felt the same thing when I saw Tekken being played on the release of PS1, it is still stuck in mind how amazing it look during that time plus the shock factor of Shepard dying early in the game lol...I also suggest watching Big Dan Gaming channel if you want additional content for ME like hidden banters, what if scenarios, etc.
Hi Mortem. ME3 was in my oppinion a fantastic game, the only bad thing i could say about it was the ending (they objectively messed that up). But they since added things like the extended cut ending that redeemed some of the worst offending things.
Oh yeah! I enjoyed it a lot! Let's go with just two topics for this comment. Shorter one first, Liara - I am so happy you changed your of opinion of her. She is my favourite squadmate in the trilogy Second one is quite major, in particular in connection to your plans for lore/story video and that you enjoy worldbuilding/lore. Are you aware that Mass Effect has plenty of companion materials? Books, comics, iOS game (Jacob as MC) and even animated feature movie! (which happens before ME3, so good moment for you to watch it) Since you played ME1 already, you know that Anderson was first human candidate for Spectre, but what happened during the infamous mission with Saren? How did Cerberus get their hands on Shepard's body? Soon you will meet Kahlee Sanders, what is her relation to Anderson? (and who is she in general?) And most importantly, who is Blasto, the hanar Spectre? XD All of that and more is out there. I have read and watched it all. I would strongly recommend you to the same and expand your lore beyond just the games
Love all the Mass effect games, even mass effect 3 great game to a point. BTW IMPORTANT NOTE FOR THE CITADEL DLC IN ME3 don't do it until just before the end game, so don't enter the Anderson's apartment until then because it will start as soon as you enter it, it is best to do it last. enjoy it as it is my favorite DLC in the trilogy.
I know I was kinda upset with how I perceived they dumbed down the rpg-ness of the game. in subsequent playthroughs I really came to enjoy how tight they designed the classes and the way you could level up yourself and your companions and the whole scrapping of loot and inventory in the traditional sense also felt way better. I will say that with streamlining the classes especially some of the companions felt like there really was only 1 optimal build and it was pointless to experiment in the end however I really prefer the way me 2 and 3 handle... everything.. to me1
I would love to hear your thoughts on your favorite and least favorite “failures” and such within the game. Either the consequences of failing the loyalty mission and the conversation that followed, or of not meeting a paragon/renegade check (for example on a neutral shep runthrough.
Great Game and with the great review , I really hope you enjoy the 3rd installment as well. Even if it went a "little sideways" like you mentioned, it is still an amazing experience, in my opinion. Have a good one.
Of the three ME games 2 is my favorite, though anytime I go back to the series I play all 3. I think of it as the middle chapter rather then a stand alone and because of this I always bring one character thru all 3 games. Looking forward to your review on ME3. Good vid
ME2 was my first RPG with a shooter mechanic. Before that I only played fantasy RPGs and I must say I really enjoyed this game a lot. The companions were just absolutely cool and your choices felt as if they had meaning.
ME2... The best of the trilogy and has possibly the best companions in RPGs (this or KotOR2). Looking forward to hear your opinion on ME3. One thing I can tell you, the ME3 has great gameplay.
Spot on about difficulty. I usually don’t bother with top end of difficulty settings as i don’t like my games to feel like work, but in Mass Effect insanity was the perfect challenge. I’d say that in difficulty spectrum ME is in the easiest end, if say pathfinder kingmaker is in the most difficult end.
The shift from RPG to Action is the "EAfication" of Bioware. It worked really well with ME because it is, at its core, an action game; and the gameplay really benefited from it, unlike DA that is an actual RPG at it's core. They really refined that action gameplay in ME3 and that game, aside from some annoying and unnecessary things they shoved in there (because it *is* EA we're talking about here), turned out to be a masterpiece after they 'fixed' the ridiculous ending.
Mass Effect 2, Baldur's Gate 2, Knights of the Old Republic (1), and Jade Empire all rank in my top 10 games of all time. Their relative positions sometimes change, but at least three of them are in my top 5 at any given time. Glad you're enjoying the Mass Effect series!
@@nunya_bizniz It probably should be, but I've never finished it. I list interest during the quest for the sacred ashes, right before the final boss fight. That was about ten years ago and, sadly, I've just never been inspired to pick it up again. The origins themselves are pretty awesome, but somewhere in the middle I just ... got bored? That's not uncommon for me. I can probably count on my two hands the number of adventure/RPG games I've actually finished. I don't think it would be honest of me to include a game on my list of "exceptional games" if I couldn't find the motivation to finish it. All the other games I listed managed to hold my attention all the way to the end.
While I love the vision, polish and emotional beats of ME2, it felt overly like a ‘babysitting/friend sim’ to me a lot of the time…like I was always checking my ‘social appointment book’ rather than actually going on missions and saving the galaxy 😂
I would make sure to retrain (zero out their skills) your shepard's skill points before importing to ME3, most of the skills are there for each class, but the Skill Points put into those skills will be distributed...fairly weirdly dependent on what you have allocated between 2 and 3 due to the skill changes between games. It is basically your best way to get off on the right foot in ME3 (you CAN reskill, but resources are a -bit- limited until one of the DLCs, much like ME2) and doesn't "lock" you into whatever your SP is in at the start, due to, again, combat changes in ME3
I feel that people who label ME as an RPG are only doing so, so they can accuse the game of NOT being an RPG. To me, ME is a story interspersed with moments of combat, character building, inventory management, base (ship) building and exploration. It's the story and the interaction with the companions that I return for time and time again. The improving combat and movement in ME2 and 3 make it more comfortable to move through that story. But it's the story and companions that made this game great.
Mass effect 2 really made it feel like you were playing a season of star trek. Also I'll argue that streamlining the inventory really improved the role playing aspect of the game, because you're spending less time in menu's playing with your "paper doll" and more time in conversations making choices.
Just finished ME2 legendary edition yesterday. Completely agree with all your point. Additionally, the final mission was too good. I mean it actually felt like a suicide mission as in you know some or all of your team might die (ofc you can go on the internet and find ways to save all of them but that's not how you should play the game).
Hi Mort - I loved ME2, it is probably one of my favourite games, I tried to play it in Renegade as well as Paragon, but I just couldnt handle it (for Renegade, read asshole)
Hey man, thank you for your video content! I've been watching your channel for almost a year now. Wanted to ask - do you have any plans for adding a new video format or maybe section of the main review videos with something like completionist impression on games you've completed? With stressing out some difficulties on certain stages or impressions on quest chains, difficulties of some achievements, etc. I feel like it would be awesome to look at the game from the perspective of someone who actually 100% it. Because as much as I like watching your videos - they feel like regular reviews of a person who's done some side quests and main story and that's it but it is quite possible that you had lots of interesting moments that most of people wouldn't experience unless they try to do what you do.
ME2 was my favorite of the trilogy by far. ME3 isn't a bad game. But it does suffer in comparison. Partly due to corporate meddling. Partly due to bad decisions by the writing team. (And I don't just mean the controversy you can't help but have heard about.) Still, worth playing. And most of the problems w/ ME3 to me are in the very beginning, and in a handful of the final missions. Most of the game is very good.
ME3, minus a section of about 15 minutes, is an amazing game. Sadly those 15 minutes left such a bad taste in the mouth of many that it easily overshadows everything the game did right.
Kind of makes you appreciate the inventory and character progression system in the first game. That's why I don't like2 as much, even though the characters were better.
Mass effect 3 suffered do to EA mostly. One dlc should have been there since day one. Technically it was but it was pre-order only. But with this release I'm much more satisfied than I was on original release.
ME2 is the overall best game in the trilogy, I will give you that. But don't go into ME3 thinking less of it. It's a fun game, with a good story, but sadly, not a good conclusion, and that's where most of the fans had their problems. But the gameplay is by far the best in the series. Hope you like that as well.
I think if you go into ME3 with an open mind you’ll be happy! 2 is slightly a better game but 3 is way better then people give credit and there’s a bunch of parts or just gameplay adjustments that I personally enjoyed more then 2… dlc’s are really good as well… the suicide mission is really hard to top and I don’t think any game has really done a mission like that any better… genuinely interested to get your take because like you I never played them until the LE came out and I had seen reviews or comments about all the games over the years and I’m not a huge shooter fan normally but I enjoyed all three games a lot more then I expected to!
Still one of my all-time favorites. The whole series is great. The combat is more action packed, while not at PAR with pure shooters. But for me the story and in this 2nd part the companions made my day. Lair of the Shadowbroker is my favorite DLC.
ME2 is the last Bioware game I really enjoyed. The combat, writing, and companions were all improved from ME1 and while I agree it's disappointing that they stripped away a lot of the RPG mechanics, I think that the combat improvements more than make up for this. Never even played ME3 because I didn't like the companions as much as 2, so I was waiting for a sale/price drop to get it and then its release state purged me of any need to ever pick it up so I'm looking forward to your review and story video to wrap it up for me.
I agree on me3; I do not agree on andromeda, andromeda had potential but ultimately needed like a year or 2 extra in the oven to craft a better narrative and a more compelling universe.... and to fix some of the bugs. It felt like a rushed project and I'm assuming it fell prey to EA's unwillingness to really invest in what's primarily a single player experience
Andromeda was way, way better game than I thought. I was really expecting to play it, but then then all the reviews bashed game being buggy as hell and just downright bad game overall and decided to pretty much never buy it. Now just some time ago noticed it in Gamepass and decided to try it quickly too see how bad it is. To my surprise I didn't ran into any bugs I can recall of and I was expecting to see a lot of them. Also the game and setting wasn't that bad imo. Sure, it's definitely not as great as any of the original series, but by all means it's not a bad game. Like from some user reviews I read dozens of stuff like "Andromeda has fetch quests and repetitive gameplay". Like ME1 side missions aren't repetitive? They're absolute shaite imo. ME2 probing isn't repetitive? Or the final boss on ME2? Let's face it, it's really not very good, it's about as generic something can be. Graphics are said to be downgrade and sure models are quite bad in Androdema, but overall the graphics are really great, especially some of the environments looks gorgeous. Also the "reboot" could've allowed really good new so-to-say spinoff to spawn, but many people just bashed it way, way too hard.
@@yxolloxy3273 Yes ME:A had some issues and yes I wish they finished all the loose ends but the overall story I thought was good and the combat was especially fun.
@@jothain same. I didn’t play it for ages then grabbed it for 7 bucks one day. Was worth it. Yeah I have a lot of criticisms of it, the fetch quests and the unevenness of the main path being among them, but overall I had a better time with it than I have for many AAA open world games I’ve tried.
Mass effect 2 was the right call : if you can't make meaningful and fun exploration and character progression and combat and narrative choices, pick 2 of those and do them right. Then when you nail that, and they sure did, you can make a bit more of the other ones in the 3rd game. I had forgotten there were 2 awesome DLC for ME2. Arrival is pretty bad though : pure shooter without companions, barely any choices... Without spoilers, if someone finds the ending of ME3 underwhelming, just make the ending of the Citadel DLC your cannon ending. Best DLC ever except for the 2 from Witcher 3 and maybe XCOM 2 war of the chosen.
I remember not liking the second ME as much as I did the first one since I had to reload the game several times in order to make sure everyone survives + 1 of my crew mates always died even with major upgrades but then I found out I did NOT upgrade GRUNTS SHOTGUN even tho he was using a better one from DLC and it was causing the death. 💥
I don't remember the comic thing. Then again I did play through the original me2 on version 1.0 (no internet at the time) and version 1.0 didn't actually have save import which to me was completely inexcusable since one of the major draws was that it was a continuation of your choices. Still a great game though.
This one's tough for me especially considering how neither are fresh in my mind. Both had some half-assed side-mission/side tasks. My main thing with ME2 was the final mission left a really bad taste in my mouth when it came to decision making and how it led to *SPOILERS* certain characters being killed off. I was very ready for 2 after 1, but I abandoned the series after 2 even with all the improvements.
The main story of Mass Effect 2 was pretty lackluster. The companion quests and stories easily eclipse it, and are easily the best part of the game by a huge margin. I would play this again for the companion quests. But the main story? Ugh. The villains are generic, their plan is dumb, and the final boss? I just shook my head and wondered who approved that storyline.
It's a problem when a game like this doesn't have a real antagonist. Fighting an army or agents from an organisation is just not the same as having someone like Saren. The boss fight made me both laugh and groan. It would have fit nicely into an eighties arcade shoot em up.
Suicide Mission in ME2 is still one of the best moments in the series. I think it would be a good idea if you made a video summarizing your thoughts on the series as a whole after you played through ME3. For me the Citadel DLC was the real ending, letting us say our farewells to everyone still alive in a meaningful way. Also the arena mode was cool
It is great with the Happy Ending Mod and Citadel Epilogue Mod (hopefully comes out this year for LE).
@@CrazyChemistPL I would first play without mods, especially for a review.
@@firstclaw1 I was only able to do that once, but for a review that would be the right choice of course.
I never liked the start of Mass Effect 2, it just felt cheap, all those near death escapes from ME1 kind of lost the magic when shepard was so easly taken out.
The Ending of ME3 was rushed and a drop in the experience quality in the last 30minutes kind of sucked.

The second game was a guild quest line.
I always remember ME2 being my favourite out of the trilogy
Almost agreed with you the feeling I got from playing this randomass game that just came with my xbox when I was 14 being introduced to this universe for the 1st time was amazing I’m glad it was me2 beat it too many times but I remember after that waiting for me3 like my life depended on it watching these lore videos all night that @gamermd83 made prolly killed my early social development but some sacrifices were worth it had my group of nerds to wait with me3 is my favorite game it was so epic felt like the galaxy was ending at all times but the citadel dlc sealed it for me have more to say but this comment probably ridiculously long not gonna bother checking but I’ll stop here
@@MakpakondeckDude. Use periods please.
The Mass Effect trilogy is one of those cases where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Each game is excellent and has its own strengths and weaknesses. But the overall trilogy just elevates the entire saga to a new level.
Well said. It's unique how many decisions carry from title to another.
ME1 - We've developed railgun-style small arms that have no requirement for ammunition and its associated logistics issues.
ME2 - We've developed a highly inefficient universal ammunition system that soldiers in combat will run out of in under two minutes.
What a brilliant step forward for humanity...
Funnily Conrad Verner said that, and Commander Shepard doubled down on thermal clips...
Then in the third game there was one classic rifle that had regenerative ammo from ME1 and it became the most overpowered machine gun with some mods. It machine gunned harder than an actual machine gun.
Love that your reviewing my favorite franchise in gaming. No spoiler but some advice if u import a character from ME2 into ME3 u might want to retain ur powers so ur skill points are at 0 spent before u import them first.
wake up babe, new mortismal 100% review
I love'd this series so much, I understand how people were disappointed but for me I enjoyed it from beginning til end, and even more so after the endings were improved. I played ME1 3times, ME2 10times and ME3 more than that somehow, this series and especially ME3 has a special place in my heart.
ME2 is my favorite in the trilogy. I loved the companions and the loyalty missions a lot ❤
And I cried when I came to the end of Overlord.
I love that you included Uranus, I know it's juvenile but I still laugh whenever EDI says "Really commander?" and "Probing Uranus" :D
I felt that but in my Case, its my Son.
"Suare root of 912.04 is ..."
Also the intro is a classic.
me1 did that first and better
@@visceraeyes525 characters and voice acting were far better in 2

6:58 Ah yes, probing Uranus.
Fun times.
I'm excited to hear your thoughts on 3. Great videos - thanks for the content! Keep it up!
You, Sir, are an absolute beast! Completing rpgs is not an easy task, and yet, you do it in record time. Great video!
ME2 does have some of the better paragon/renegade options out of the games. "Look out a bomb! RUN!" being a standout.
ME2 was my entry game in the series and it was an amazing experience even to this day!
If you liked the companion progression and hanging out with them in ME2, you will love ME3
ME 2 is a great game...was my least favorite in the series.
6 months to finish?🤨
Great review man! I have just started me2: legendary (yes after finishing me1 wasn’t easy but worth it for the study and characters) and love it 🥃
I hope you'll check out Mass Effect: Andromeda after completing the triology. IMO the game is solid in its own right, even exceeding in term allowing player the freedom to customize their character. Its downfall was the expectation of carry on triology story and disastrous launch so it was rarely seen in a good light.
@@luciusdebeers6176 It was quite solid. Yes, not as good as the original series, but it wasn't bad at any means.
She is my favourite squadmate in the trilogy
Second one is quite major, in particular in connection to your plans for lore/story video and that you enjoy worldbuilding/lore. Are you aware that Mass Effect has plenty of companion materials? Books, comics, iOS game (Jacob as MC) and even animated feature movie! (which happens before ME3, so good moment for you to watch it)
Since you played ME1 already, you know that Anderson was first human candidate for Spectre, but what happened during the infamous mission with Saren?
How did Cerberus get their hands on Shepard's body?
Soon you will meet Kahlee Sanders, what is her relation to Anderson? (and who is she in general?)
And most importantly, who is Blasto, the hanar Spectre? XD
All of that and more is out there.
The best final mission sequence here with your teammates. It is a pity they dumbed down everything else.
No spoilers, but there are some great, moving, epic moments in 3. Regardless of what your final verdict is, it's definitely worth playing :)
ME 2 was phenomenon back in the days. The story was top notch.
I will say that with streamlining the classes especially some of the companions felt like there really was only 1 optimal build and it was pointless to experiment
in the end however I really prefer the way me 2 and 3 handle... everything.. to me1
I would love to hear your thoughts on your favorite and least favorite “failures” and such within the game.
Have a good one.
one thing to remember about the comics over importing a save, certain quests will be affected that you have no choice over i.e the rachnid queen
The Best ME game in the series imo
It's a Masterpiece!
i remember it was super popular to hate on mass effect 3. i think 3 while not as good as 2 is still a great game.
Doing my first playthrough of the series in 2024. Bought the legendary edition for 5 dollars containing mass effect 1,2, and 3.
did you like?
ME2... The best of the trilogy and has possibly the best companions in RPGs (this or KotOR2). Looking forward to hear your opinion on ME3. One thing I can tell you, the ME3 has great gameplay.
This game felt like playing a movie more than any other game I've ever played.
ME Andromeda, has tons of exploration.
Good Grief you play through these fast!
Dragon Age Origins should be on your exceptional list.
@@GeraldJSmith fair enough. I'm the opposite. If I start a game I must finish it.
Liara with that cute little right-eye squint. I miss her.
Mass effect 2 really made it feel like you were playing a season of star trek. Also I'll argue that streamlining the inventory really improved the role playing aspect of the game, because you're spending less time in menu's playing with your "paper doll" and more time in conversations making choices.
TIM Approves of this video.
Just finished ME2 legendary edition yesterday. Completely agree with all your point. Additionally, the final mission was too good. I mean it actually felt like a suicide mission as in you know some or all of your team might die (ofc you can go on the internet and find ways to save all of them but that's not how you should play the game).
Really Sheppard? *Sigh* fine...Probing Uranus. (I see what you did there, including that little segment in your review)
Probably my favorite rpg of all time
ME2 is not just my favorite of the franchise but one of my favorite games I've ever played. I try to reply it once a year.
Lair of the Shadowbroker is STILL one of the best expansions ever made
ME2 was my favorite of the trilogy by far.
Just a stupid shooter it became.
That's exactly what an alien *would* say👽
Nice!
It's the best of the whole trilogy
Kind of makes you appreciate the inventory and character progression system in the first game. That's why I don't like2 as much, even though the characters were better.
They incentivised sniping much more from 2 on. Headshots have way more effect, that kind of thing.
Oh boy! I am going to enjoy this!
I know many like 2 the most but 3 to me was amazing
ME2 is the last Bioware game I really enjoyed. The combat, writing, and companions were all improved from ME1 and while I agree it's disappointing that they stripped away a lot of the RPG mechanics, I think that the combat improvements more than make up for this.
Never even played ME3 because I didn't like the companions as much as 2, so I was waiting for a sale/price drop to get it and then its release state purged me of any need to ever pick it up so I'm looking forward to your review and story video to wrap it up for me.
I’m a weirdo in that my favourite Mass Effect game is Mass Effect 3 when everyone else loves 2 😂
Will you be planning on playing Mass Effect: Andromeda?
Potentially
@@MortismalGaming nice!
Oh, there is a set of comics to fill in the gap of what happens during those two years where you are dead to expand out the lore even more.
Mass Effect 3 was great and so was Mass Effect Andromeda. I don't agree with the popular opinions of those games.
@@luciusdebeers6176 lol if you listened to the group think you’d think this was the only line in whole game.

Nice. Hope you like 3.
I don't remember the comic thing. Then again I did play through the original me2 on version 1.0 (no internet at the time) and version 1.0 didn't actually have save import which to me was completely inexcusable since one of the major draws was that it was a continuation of your choices. Still a great game though.
the comic was a DLC added later I think.
I’ve only ever seen the comic in the LE. I think it’s new.
@@JonasRosenven Yeah, I was getting Contra vibes.
