That “rugged” look you talk about in the beginning of the 360/PS3 version of ME3 was why I loved Fallout 3 so much and worry a little about a remaster of that game. Those rough textures help sometimes add to the vibe even if they’re technically inferior.
I love how they fixed Eden Prime. I was always bothered by the overabundance of red, like I’m on Mars, or other red planet, and not on a planet which deserve the name “Eden”. Now it looks much more like a place which is an actual paradise, but temporarily covered by dust and smoke.

@@TreTalksMusic ME2 is the popular choice, and sure, the game mechanics are more streamlined, it feels better to play, but when it comes to the story, ME1 did all the groundwork. The level of worldbuilding in that game simply puts it into a league of its own. 2 and 3 feel more like a shooter game first, and an RPG second, while ME1 is an RPG game at heart. For those who look for a compelling story and an immersive world, this isn't even a question.
@@TreTalksMusic 2 is honestly the worst in the trilogy, as unpopular of an opinion as it is. It was a jack of all trades, but master of none. There's nothing that Mass Effect 2 did that wasn't done better in 1 or 3. 2 took a dump on the lore and the story, mainly with how it handled Shepard and Protheans.
Lighting looks fine to me in ME3, if they've improved the engine that drives how lighting works in the game, then it's bound to look more bright in certain areas. It doesn't seem to ruin any atmosphere from my own perspective.
I agree. Some of the lighting looked ATROCIOUS in the original ME1 and ME2. Like remember Hackett in the Arrival dlc of ME2? jfc its like they put a flashlight under his chin when telling scary stories.
I'm glad you noticed the change in atmosphere due to the lighting changes and reduction of film grain and contrast. For me I can't help but notice it, and couldn't help but notice it even from the first screenshots. I hope they add some sliders in the options menu or something to allow us to better replicate the old atmosphere.
@@perforongo9078 You can? Guess they must've added that in the update, will have a look, thanks! Edit: Having checked, I realise that you simply mean that you can toggle it on or off, what I meant is the ability to increase or decrease it's intensity, along with the other settings noted.
Definitely with you on the og Shepards design. I'm replaying Andromada atm I'm thinking this was a bad idea because regardless of what people think of the game it looks absolutely fantastic.
I just started. And after a few hours. This is a worthy buy. Some old feeling gameplay, sure. But a remarkable universe, and BioWare knew how to tell a story back then. It is like playing a very good movie in a good way.
I did get stuck facing one direction and couldn't move sideways, while playing the rogue VI mission on the moon in ME1. But that been the only really bad bug so far. Even that eventually fixed itself.
This is much needed. I haven’t played Mass Effect in so long and it’s such a treat for PlayStation gamers because a lot of them missed out on it because the PS4 had no backwards compatibility. We also had wait to longer to play ME1 and ME2 on PlayStation as well.
I missed this game the first time around. Never played it before but i've been told (over and over again) by my friends that it is an experience like no other. Looking forward to getting this in the mail tomorrow.

Good initial review Matty. One thing though that you should mention especially for console players of the huge difference the game feels running at 60FPS. For me personally who only has played on 360, this was a major upgrade.
I know I'm in the minority, but the damn Mako was the only reason I couldn't play ME 1 more than once. I am so happy to hear about the changes to it. Thanks for your impressions! I am really excited to get into the ME universe again!
I'm with you. I'm a completionist who really doesn't like to skip content, even on replays. The clunky Mako controls just made those planets such a chore.
There are people that didn’t like the Mako? That useless hunk of scrap is a damned gem. Sure it can’t drive worth a damn and the aiming is piss-poor but it has a heart. And if you ever want to go over a mountain instead of the fairly easy path around it then the mako will do it. Perseverance! Ah the nostalgia!
Actually, I think your in the majority lol. I'm in the minority. Aside from it's shields, I never had a problem with the Mako. Course I've been gaming for over 40 yrs, so maybe that has something to do with it. Just don't get me started on that tissue box of a Hammerhead! lol
@@Vthd7604 haha, so I've been gaming since the first family Atari and I'm with you on the old gamer thing. I just wasn't a fan of launching into space because I hit a rock. Seemed like it was akin to a 2 year old in a bouncy house. 😂

the lighting changes you are seeing are the result of the HDR craze, which is natural to how the eye sees the world but is not natural when trying to present a cinematic experience. the console versions also had radial blurring, motion blurring and blooming to help smooth over the artifacting and pop in/out issues they had back then.

I remember watching your spec videos about whether or not we would get new mass effect content and just hoping... lol, and here we are. Got this pre-ordered.
In terms of the lighting, I definitely feel like a bit of the atmosphere is lost in the Normandy in the beginning due it the lighting being more natural and more bright. However, that being said, in the original Mass Effect you couldn't see a DAMN THING, and only now watching a Let's Play of ME1 LE, I kept realizing how much MORE of the scene I was seeing. How much more information was being communicated. Nihilus is practically blending into the darkness in the original, where as now you can actually make him out.

Same here the atmosphere of ME1 was just amazing I loved the armors and all in all I just loved it
Conversations with Sovereign and Vigil are two of my favourite gaming moments. Two from one game is impressive.
Why so many fans love ME2 over ME1 is beyond me
ME1 is probably my favourite too but I don't know how I feel about dialing down the RPG stuff
That “rugged” look you talk about in the beginning of the 360/PS3 version of ME3 was why I loved Fallout 3 so much and worry a little about a remaster of that game. Those rough textures help sometimes add to the vibe even if they’re technically inferior.
This will be my first playthrough of the series. I'm excited!
All I can say is lucky!
You will have a blast, enjoy!
ME1 is amazing, I know you’ll enjoy it and ME2.
*UPDATE:* Abso-fucking-lutely amazing. I'm so glad I didn't sleep on this series again
Never clicked on a vid faster 😊
The getting stuck in the wall on Noveria is a bug I had in the original version! I remember how frustrating it was and how it killed the moment!
Probably the result of untested technology those sneaky corporate types are developing there.
Also that audio bug. Lol I’ve totally experienced that on the 360 versions
I love how they fixed Eden Prime. I was always bothered by the overabundance of red, like I’m on Mars, or other red planet, and not on a planet which deserve the name “Eden”.
Now it looks much more like a place which is an actual paradise, but temporarily covered by dust and smoke.
Exactly! That effect always bothered me. It honestly never made sense.
Glad to see others who agree most people are pretty negative to the change but I agree with your points
@@wesleycolvin7158 It makes plenty of sense. Honestly. It's symbolism. It's a style. Just not yours.
@@Vthd7604 Why is my opinion the one that got your attention? I was agreeing with the opening comment.
@@wesleycolvin7158 Then say it doesn't make sense to you. Not a blanket statement. It makes perfect sense to me. But I see your point. Sorry
Played part of 2 when I was like 7 so this is going to be an entirely new experience for me. Thanks for all the videos on it Matty you got me hyped af XD
I can’t wait to get off work today and play this, I have an early shift and I’m totally prepared to pull an all nighter playing until I have to go to work again tomorrow
Don’t do that trust me done it before totally not worth it.
Same.
Take your time man, I took the weekend off to play through 1st game. Prob won’t get to 2nd game till next week.
@@starscream6629 I know the first game like the back of my paw
@@NewWasabii back of your paw? Lol
I played ME 2 and 3 but not 1. I know I know lol so I'm glad I can play all 3 back to back now. I think I'll appreciate this story and universe so much more because of it.
Thank you for keeping the hype alive for the whole year!!! Love the channel and your content!!!😭😭🙌🏿🙏🏿💯
Schedule is clear, phone is automated to go on silent. I do not exist in the real world this Friday and weekend
First time jumping into mass effect I’m excited
Enjoy man! You’re in for one hell of a ride ;)
@@TheMelancholicWriter thank you
Your going to have a blast, enjoy! 😎👍
Lucky! Power through ME1 if you feel it's getting a little stale. ME2 is one of the best games I've ever played. My first time with ME1 I stopped about halfway through. When ME2 was coming out, I replayed it from the beginning and started ME2 immediately. It was such a great experience.
I'm excited for you. Come back after you're done and let us know what you think. :)
It's been really fun to relive the series again like this, worth the wait 100%
Damn, my passion for Mirada Lawson is coming back..
😂
Well don't, you saxist, Bioware doesn't like it
@@Sigilstone17 too true. Bioware will shame anyone for expressing attraction to an attractive character!
Wow. Matty I would just like to say I’m beyond proud of you which may not mean a lot from a random guy on TH-cam but I’ve been watching you since 7th grade and I am now a sophomore in college. And my man. The growth in your quality of content has just amazed me and I would just like to congratulate you on the hard work and dedication you put into your videos. Keep up the great work much love
The first one are the most inportant one. That they did it good I mean.
I agree. It was definitely the most dated.
Mass Effect 1 is still the best Mass Effect game and it's not even close.
@@comicsans1689 ME2 >
@@TreTalksMusic ME2 is the popular choice, and sure, the game mechanics are more streamlined, it feels better to play, but when it comes to the story, ME1 did all the groundwork.
Your videos have been the only thing making the wait more bearable
Lighting looks fine to me in ME3, if they've improved the engine that drives how lighting works in the game, then it's bound to look more bright in certain areas. It doesn't seem to ruin any atmosphere from my own perspective.
I agree.
Some of the lighting looked ATROCIOUS in the original ME1 and ME2.
Like remember Hackett in the Arrival dlc of ME2? jfc its like they put a flashlight under his chin when telling scary stories.
Man what a journey this has been thank you for all your coverage and all your efforts
NOW LET'S SAVE THE GALAXY
Paragon Matty: What's 900 bucks these days anyway?
Renegade Matty: *Shoots it*
I'm glad you noticed the change in atmosphere due to the lighting changes and reduction of film grain and contrast. For me I can't help but notice it, and couldn't help but notice it even from the first screenshots. I hope they add some sliders in the options menu or something to allow us to better replicate the old atmosphere.
You can add film grain under the Graphics option.
I'm hoping Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening and Dragon Age 2 get this treatment. Would love a Legendary collection for those too.
Yes!!!! I can't wait! One more day
Always wanted to play these games but never did. Now I’m hyped and ready to play this remastered.
The second one is a masterpiece!
I just started. And after a few hours. This is a worthy buy. Some old feeling gameplay, sure. But a remarkable universe, and BioWare knew how to tell a story back then. It is like playing a very good movie in a good way.
I really hope they released this to give us a character save for ME4 😉
ME5 you mean. Also why would they do that if Shep dies in 4 of the 5 endings.
I think a lot of those bugs you were talking about may get fixed in the giant day one patch. Fingers crossed🤞
I'm with you, man 🤞🤞
I did get stuck facing one direction and couldn't move sideways, while playing the rogue VI mission on the moon in ME1. But that been the only really bad bug so far. Even that eventually fixed itself.
It’s so cool to see that ME1s graphics are now as good maybe even better than the rest of the trilogy!
Yeah I’d say that there on par with 2 & 3
It's been a least 4 years since I last played through the Mass Effect Trilogy. I'm really looking forward to reliving those epic moments again.
It’s only been about 10 months for me
15 hours is a joke for this trilogy. May as well be 15 seconds.
This is much needed. I haven’t played Mass Effect in so long and it’s such a treat for PlayStation gamers because a lot of them missed out on it because the PS4 had no backwards compatibility. We also had wait to longer to play ME1 and ME2 on PlayStation as well.
Can't wait to play again, the series gave me so many feels
I missed this game the first time around. Never played it before but i've been told (over and over again) by my friends that it is an experience like no other. Looking forward to getting this in the mail tomorrow.
Day one patch hopefully will fix the audio and glitches in that patch.
Your early news on the legendary edition in like March was what attracted me to your channel. Hats of to you sir.
When youtubers put “honest” on their review video. Glad to know you’re not lying! 😐
He’s a huge fan, and he wants the audience to know he’s trying to take an unbiased approach to his review
As someone who never got to play the DLC in all three games, playing this would feel like a whole new experience to me
Not gonna lie hearingn the Mass effect title music had me tearing up a bit in your intro...
Also can we get some appreciation for the Epic Codex voice guy?
Yes! Kinda wish they kept him for the second two games. It really added to the introduction of the game world & lore for me.
Found you through Collin and I've listened to every episode of Defining Duke podcast, but this is my first time watching one of your videos and I love how much thought you put into it, I will be a fan of all your videos in the future 😀
My man! This is why I’ve been here for the last 6 years. The most thorough breakdown of Mass Effect anywhere.
Thanks Matty! Can’t wait to dive in!
@@julilla1 haha I was always doing that to see if I could get a reaction from the crew. No luck lol. But I am going to give the new controls a try. Supposed to have better shields this time round. Let's hope they did it to the Hammerhead as well.
the lighting changes you are seeing are the result of the HDR craze, which is natural to how the eye sees the world but is not natural when trying to present a cinematic experience. the console versions also had radial blurring, motion blurring and blooming to help smooth over the artifacting and pop in/out issues they had back then.
Hey Matty, after The Legendary Edtion the next RPG coming out is Biomutant. Everyone is HYPED for that game. Maybe you can cover some more things about it? It releases on May 25th 2021
Gonna miss the beautiful skyscapes of the originals but I am very excited to revisit this series

I guess i'm in the extreme minority who liked the RPG-aspect of ME.
Mass effect 1 role playing was what got me into the series
Garrus looks beautiful, that’s all I need.
Damn right.
Bravo! As someone who has watched multiple reviews and has been playing through the games personally, you nailed this review.
Nice to know I'm not the only one who just uses the default models for Shepard, lol.
Statistics show that most players play default Shepard lol
love ur videos matty, glad ive been able to watch ur channel blow up and u get these opuurtunities
I wonder if they fix the ladder in Leviathan DLC, that ladder you need 20 min to 3 hours trying to get down.
Oh boy. That one was really tedious.
I don’t remember such a ladder. Maybe I got lucky.
@@xenon8117 It's a very specific one, most of the players do not go there, if I am right it's because like an achievement or hidden mission you need to get there, but sure if you search on youtube for "mass effect 3 leviathan ladder bug fix" or something like this you will find, it's a video for 8 years ago if they do not fix it, will be a huge shame. Before this video, I think I try to pass for 3 hours without success.
@@Ninjutsu2K So many runs and I didn't know this. Shame on me.

Not really, every update in every game, every remaster, has bugs somewhere.
I see Bethesda doin it too

@@pokemonfan2630 No, because it's impossible to get rid of every bug when a game is made from thousands of lines of code, but if you think you can do better, go make it yourself.
I remember watching your spec videos about whether or not we would get new mass effect content and just hoping... lol, and here we are. Got this pre-ordered.
I LOVE This game! People should definitely by it and experience or re-experience this brilliant series!
Exactly it looks fine, sometimes even great walking around. until you start talking too someone and it looks like they are in a enteral struggle too not fall into the dark abyss.
lets goooooooooo, I absolutely cannot wait to drop back in the best trilogy in gaming
Vest trilogy lmao
Mass effect 1 has always been my favorite, can't wait to play it to see it for myself how much its improved
Omg audio bugs are the worst since its much harder to ignore.
Forgot the elevator scenes were also loading scenes. It cool that it gives you the option to stay.
