Everyone deserves a second chance even though Albert and Moazzam were already emotionally and humanly connected, he was just a soldier who was deceived by his commanders but went his way and decided to change his circumstances, it is wonderful what humans can achieve. I think for him to go against the entire US war machinery geared to demonise the people he was guarding is amazingly brave. The easiest thing would have been for him to just follow the majority and treat the prisoners as sub human. It also shows he has intellect which allowed him to come to his own conclusions about the prisoners he was guarding rather than be a sheep following orders.
He was in a super dark environment and wasn't as bad and evil as his other colleagues, when you're in a dark place like that you don't become an angel but he still was decent compared to the norm over there
