So basically Miyazaki (game director) confirmed in an interview that its taking place in present day. Trailer suggests we’re seeing what the world looked like when marika arrived, remnants of a previous age.
@@livingjarcletus but the trailer shows the player. The wolf knight character is the character they use to represent the Tarnished in Elden Ring trailers. The DLC trailer shows the player reaching the Land of Shadow, riding Torrent exactly over Torrent's already left footsteps, that were it carried Miquella into the Land of Shadow as the promo art shows. You can see the footsteps at the beginning of the trailer but I admit I had to watch it way too many times to notice. The trailer shows the present, at least in some moments. It's not impossible that some images in the trailer belong in the past. Miquella went after Marika and we go after Miquella but its not clear what this time span is. Anyway I believe what Miyazaki meant is that we will experience a new place that will tell its own history and that is somehow connected to Marika's past so therefore we will know more about the past of the Lands Between.
Miyazaki, "it is a place from the lands between that has been separated." Everyone for some reason, "it's a mirror/alt version of lands between." The elden lobotomy going strong after the wait
The most telling thing he said in my opinion is “the player will experience marikas past the same way they experience the shattering in the main game” This COULD imply present day, as in we’re experiencing marikas past thru item descriptions, dialogue, environment, just not literally there
The whole thing ive seen in the comments about it taking or not taking place in the past, the developers said it takes place in the present. What we're seeing are probably just remnants of a past that they said Marika did something too. its all just whats left like in the lands between. We learn about the past events in the base game thru dialogue and item description and environmental story telling. Theyre telling a story about marikas past and what she did in this land.
Yes. Given that Director said practically this exact thing in the interview with ign, theres not much to discuss. Other than interpreting EXACTLY what he means in terms of in game details, which, we will obviously have to wait for
Im going to assume its a reflection or in a way painting of the past brought into present day during the events of elden ring (main campaign). Just like DS1 or DS3 with dlcs that involved a mirror world or painting that they are portals or areas that have been left unchecked for some time during the modern-day events of these games. That maybe this dlcs world was brought forth like a dream world by one of the elden lords Melania to keep Miquella safe in times of trouble. Who knows
If time is always moving in Elden Ring in terms of how there’s day and night then time is moving day by day present day could also mean after the erstere is burnt right so maybe the flame creates said shadow being Meissner the eternal flame?
this shadowland could basically be the upside down from stranger things. The shadowlands might be stuck in the past but set in the present. In season 4 of stranger things (set in 1986) Nancy reads her diary that she found in the upside down and the last entry was in 1863 which was when the upside down was created.
The video seems to have a hard time with the past issue. Think of it this way. The shroud covers this land...removing it from the erdtree/golden order influence. So as time goes by into our current time in TLB OUR land developed different than theirs. The "shadowlands" has the essence of the past because it continues to age normally without that influence. So things seem to reference the past, but really it is just showing how everything would have aged without the shroud to the same timeline the game is played in.
Nice take. Going based off of what Miyazaki said in the IGN video, this seems more or less to be the case. The “experiencing marikas past the same way you experience the shattering in the main game” sticks out to me. Main game, remnants of the shattering war. DLC - remnants of marikas past
Think so? The quote ends with “i will not be far behind, may we meet again.” So i dont think its Miquella. The voice sounds just like tanith from main game, but it being tanith makes absolutely no sense. So idk
@@livingjarcletus yeah I think miquella is gonna be a guide in this dlc. Plus the editing with the voice overlapping before the big reveal of miquella is a dead giveaway.
The guy has said several times that it’s not in the past but everyone theorizes that we are seeing things in the past. I don’t get it.

@@livingjarcletus yes, this is it, I think. Cause when we reach the Lands Between the Shattering has already happened a lot of time ago
ngl I thought the fingers sticking out of the ground were birds
Lol vaati said the same thing in his video. Its definitely one of the hands….

No I doubt it. It was confirmed to be a land that was part of lands between but for some reason got separated.

The person talking telling us to touch the arm is miquella. He only sounds like a girl because he is a young boy
