Nissan Murano Camshaft Sensor Tips

  • A very common fault for late model Nissan ,including the 07 Nissan Murano, of to which we uncover specifications, testing and replacement.
    A PO340 fault is a camshaft sensor position code, and with a basic check should not have any oil contaminants on the sensor connectors.The valve cover gaskets can be a common area of leak source towards the rear of the cylinder heads. Cure the leak, clean the connector and in some occasions that will resolve the problem. An oil soaked connector will not allow for a good pathway of electronic signal.
    The camshaft sensor should have a voltage reading of 1.0-4.0 volts. (The pulse cycle will change as engine RPM is increased ; 3:29 on video reveals what a bad wave form looks like).
    When replacing the camshaft sensor it is highly recommended to replace them in pairs along with crankshaft sensor, as they can reproduce the same type of symptoms ( an extended crank or a phantom stalling situation).
    NISSAN PARTS :
    Camshaft sensor ( Front Bank by Radiator) 2371-AL61A
    Camshaft sensor (Rear Bank by Firewall) 23731-6J90B
    Crank Shaft Sensor 23731-AL60C

      Little trick tip. Make sure the vehicle has been off for over 15 minutes to get the most accurate oil reading .

    This was a good helpful video up to the actual changing of the part. I agree with a previous comment that some people want to see the part changed out slowly. And never use music. Subtitles if anything.

    Good morning! May I have your help?
    My Nissan Murano 2004 180.000 miles is presenting some hesitations and sudden stop in the way at 70 miles x hr. The engine decrease the RPM, them the brake light on steady and the check engine light appear. I stopped the car, turn off the engine and turn on back. The check engine light remain on, but the symptoms disappear. Can be the same issue that you are describing in this video? Thanks a lot for your help! And, forgive me if you find any grammar mistake, I trying to do my best to speak and write English well!

    I have a 2008 Sentra 1.8 engine 160k. I’m getting the dreaded P0011 code. The dealer said it needed a timing chain. I ordered Nissan parts off of E bay and had it installed. The internal engine looked great. The light came back on. It has a new crank and cam sensor in it and both from Nissan. What am I missing? What else can it be? It’s running like it did when it was new. My wife and I love this car and we want to keep it. The dealer said they have seen this problem before but not in 160 K. Any ideas?

    Does the Autel unit you are using have pids for both bank's camshaft sensors and vtc solenoids? What I do after checking for proper engine oil level is to put all 4 on screen and look at duty% of solenoids each and deg.of advance of timing of each. When one of the phase sensors is bad you will see no change under load in drive with foot on brake(aprox.1200rpm).

    • @Desertcarcare
      @Desertcarcare  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Kimmel ..great question. The Autel has 2 channel scope ability & we typically don't have an issue with that setup. We can go to our SnapOn Modus 4 channel if necessary..great input ! Thanks

I took it to a mechanic they told me one of the cool needs to be change, the engine light came off when I took it from the garage. But the following day while reversing, I noticed the engine light came back on. I also felt a vibration. What you think is the issue?

    One thing that needs to be mentioned regarding replacement sensors. I replaced these about 8-10 years ago, and just replaced them again last week. Getting under the hood, and was all sorts of oilin/around both sensors. After pulling them out, did a double-take when comparing to new replacements. Old ones had no o-rings, new ones did.
    Well, I know who the dummy is now... But I'm sure I didn't remove the O-rings on the original replacements, and I always check packaging.
    I'm assuming the OEM ones must have had them, not sure why I didn't catch when replacing the first time.
    Just keep a look out.
    And BTW, this time I replaced both cam sensors as last time, however was still getting P0340 error afterwards. Since its got 150K on it, I replaced the crank sensor, and no more problems.

    • @Desertcarcare
      @Desertcarcare  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      WiscoFun < good point inserted.
      We made the assertion based upon the age of all 3 and the common failures that can occur thereafter ~ if you have one failing ~ it is certainly your choice to replace what is only broken |failing at that time .
      If you were to come back with the same symptoms months later , you could argue why do I have the same concerns/symptoms and furthermore why didn’t you advise me of the aged other related sensors that could have been remedied on the first visit after a costly tow and missed day of work.
      Use your judgement with what you feel is right for you as it is your ultimate call on what you decide to do.
      Our goal here is to inform folks of options and declare some of the real world pattern failures that they may decide to completely avoid, of to which some may decide to not bother with a headache that could be looming .

Now were getting the P0021 code, we have spent soo much money in repairs and we don't want to buy anymore parts unless we can be sure what the problem is. By what logic do you justify Changing all 3 Sensors when only one is failed?? 60 bucks for the Crank Sensor and $75 each for the cam sensors. You guys must have a gold mine where you're at on extremely uninformed customers. That is just Nuts, a rip off in mild terms. Advice the customer let them make the decision! I always change the one that is bad and not guess whether or not the others will fail soon. That is the silliest thing I have heard. A Year from now if the other one fails it can be addressed then. You obviously know how to use a scope and also know that this is about a 2 minute test so why bother replacing all sensors at once.

    Poor design. If one sensor fails, the car stalls......immediately. Very dangerous. I needed to replace them on my old 2004 Murano which I call my Home Depot - Lowes junk car. Then again, what didn't I need to replace in this car. LOL! Although old, only has 65,000 miles. The aftermarket sensors are fine off eBay and Amazon. Don't waste your money on OEM parts as the device is very simple. These are basically an electromagnet. In fact, I'm surprised they can fail during the life of the engine. Likely poorly designed and the core is eventually affected by heat. The retainer clips are shaky as well with the locking tab easily broken.

    • @boots7859
      @boots7859 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely right! Unless one is buying janky no-name of eBay, one can easily replace both cam sensors for $30 from RockAuto.
      These sensors are basically Hall-Effect sensors which detect when a magnet on the cam swings by. That causes the sensor to send a voltage pulse to the ECM which can then figure out where the cam is in its rotation. Other sensors may be different and more complex and worthy on NOT picking the Econo-cheapo part. However the cam and crank (IIRC) are almost as simple and basic as can be. Worse, it really does take about 10 minutes to change both, with the bulk of the time spent on figuring out how they un-clip.

    • @23x31
      @23x31 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@boots7859 RockAuto doesn't sell them. Also, the $18 for the "pair" Isumo Chinese sensors on eBay are identical to the $75 "each" Duralast sensors sold at AutoZone. They're the same part from the same factory stamped with the Duralast brand. I was told this by a trusted mechanic I know who does repairs that I won't attempt.
