      Repeat Offender
      Did I say it could get into a tighter space, or in any other way compare it to a Carbon Cub? No? I didn’t think so.
      So... I don’t understand YOUR reference.

      Mike maidened that thing what, 2 weeks ago? He hadn't even figured out the stall speed before the flight to Airventure! Wait until he gets used to it!

      Why? it doesn't take off any faster or in a shorter length than the 20,000 dollar Piper cub...and at 850,000 dollars..who can afford it?

    • @georgewalker4179
      @georgewalker4179 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Well it weighs in at 3200 lbs and he only had it flying a week so their still learning speeds. Who can afford it? The guy that built it that's who, oh and its over 1 million btw. Take a cub to 25000 and cruise at 180kts...wait you cant!

    Basic specs on Draco. Around 700+ HP engine. ALL items for lift and direction maxxed out which gives it around 35 stall speed. 737 passenger aircraft lighting put on that little plane in front and back. And he estimates 3000+ hours building and 1 million spent.

      @rickb9238 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Toady , I think there is a ton of skill and craftsmanship in that aircraft, no doubt about it. The skills to be able to come up with the engineering are obvious too. I love what I’v seen in the way of innovations to Draco but it still takes money and lots of it. Not for one minute trying to take away from the idea, the design and the skills to do what has been done.

      I belief it how this is meant to be done, high angle off attach to the deck, and stoppen on a sort little run... Just like its meant to be done in the real world, short open piece of land in the wilderness surrounded by high trees, hills and mountains... Flying 10 feet of a level deck for a mile before the landing it, really? sigh. well done boys?!

    The takeoff at 2:18 is mind-blowingly short, not even the much-vaunted Draco could do that. Yes, different airplanes different weights and different power-to-weight ratios, I don't care. It kicked the Draco's ass which is nice to see. Yes I'm also a Draco fan so keep your attacking comments to yourselves.

    I say, the red plane with Turbo Prop -VS- the pistons drivin' aircrafts. I had notice the turbo prop, it has not so noisy with just little whine sound with louder propellers sound. Compared to all of the pistons drivin' is much louder than turbo prop. Turbo prop, it also the most powerful aircraft.

    • @prestonriley4922
      @prestonriley4922 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Braeden Hamson, the best performing STOL airplanes are designed to be used in very rough terrain like landing on rocks the size of cantaloupes, or animal holes the size of a basketball. Generally speaking nose wheel assemblies are not tough enough to deal with that environment but a tailwheel airplane with two main wheels up front (with big bushwheels) can handle that abuse. Nothing is preventing someone from designing a great performing STOL plane with a nose wheel, it would takeoff and land short but the airplanes usefulness would be limited by very rough terrain.

      But it does so with a MUCH higher payload, not to mention higher cruise altitudes and speeds. Probably longer range too. It's not just an expensive carbon cub, it's it's own platform. And the price is because it's a completely reengineered plane, with specific wings, better avionics, 4 seat oxygen, etc. If it were made in serial it would be much cheaper, maybe in the 650 region? You could probably use Draco to rescue climbers in the Himalayas :D

      Right, it has the STOL performance of a Carbon Cub at almost four times the weight, and the ability to seat four people, and cruise at FL280. It's a truly astonishing aircraft.

      No, it's just a fun plane; really the whole point of a STOL.

      Repeat Offender - As you know, it is all about velocity, vectors and acceleration. A stall speed mid 30s (knots), launch distance mid 120s (feet), an angle of ascent at 40°+, O2 for 4, 700 imperial miles at 17000 (feet), able to fly inverted without sputtering (provided there is at least 1 imperial gallon of aviation gasoline [petrol]).
      What is your true argument? What is the objective of this complaint? Mike Patey threw 💰 at a dream (which, in my humble opinion, achieved a goal). It performs better than originally designed and engineered. Mike created something better. Don't urinate his Cheerios and chill out.

    They should have put a 50ft obstacle up at the threshold that would have eliminated 98% of the field gaming the competition with these long flat approaches. #2 look like the only remotely correct short field technique. Fly the wing and put the remaining energy into the pavement vertically on landing not in the ground roll.

    Amazing performance. Those big wheels look kind of funny though.

    Here's a video from 1938 of a Fieseser Storch. Go to :50 for an example of a landing. th-cam.com/video/VDcB0pSUYOI/w-d-xo.html I don't know what this flying 10' off the ground for 1,000 feet on an approach is? Looks like something that doesn't belong. Taking off and clearing trees - great, but if you can land somewhere with a 1,000 foot approach 10' high, why would you need to take off like a rocket?
