He would only talk whenever I was visiting. Everytime I would walk into their house, he's greet me with a whistle and say, "Hey big boy."

My Goffon's Cockatoo has no problems going to the vet. I use a barred travelling cage where he can see everything going on around him. He ADORES car rides. He loves to sit in his carrier and watch the world zoom by through the windows. He also tends to go with me on trips to lots of other places other than the vet. So getting in the carrier doesn't automatically mean he is going to an unpleasant place like the vet's office. It *always* means a car ride. So, when he seems me preparing the travelling cage for a trip, he can hardly wait to get into it.
I had a skunk named Buddy. Rather than a carrier which he hated and was a nightmare getting him out of I used a medium storage bin without the lid. That way we could see each other, he could look around easier and it was easier taking care of him while I was driving. He loved it. He too went everywhere with me. Even through food drive-thrus. He loved the vet. Was a very kind and gentle old man that had also been the vet for the local zoo for 17 years. So he knew alot skunks.

We went on vacation once and when we returned, he spent 2 full hours following us around as we were unpacking. We assumed he was cussing us out. He lived to be almost 21 years old and I attribute that to the doxies taking care of him in his last couple of years.

He could be 2' from me,in the dark,when I called him ...he would lie very still and ignore me.but,at 3a.m. he would climb the high wall to my bedroom and sit on the AC...and ask to come in! Cats do rule the roost!

They have a kitty condo, a kitty hi-rise, both well constructed, insulated and the hi-rise is fully furnished and both have multiple layers of carpet and a dogglo. I lost 10 babies this past summer. My new neighbor, I KNOW, put 3 cans of food under my car........probably loaded with anti-freeze. Never found one body. All but 2 are really feral. One comes in the house and doesn't want to leave. I don't blame her when it's cold. I'm disabled and a wonderful woman has been helping me get them spayed. We still have more to do. I don't want to bring more babies into this world, plus I'm surrounded by 27 acres of woods where I've got coyotes, raccoons and opposums. I've got some for you if you're interested. I don't believe that they ever want to be alone..if,they come to your house...they know who you really are! When,I lived in the country...almost 25yrs...alone..many cats,abandoned found their way up to my house,in the bitter cold of winter.People fom the city,would drive out after dark and dump their cat...Always,when the temperatures were dropping to the coldest! I did lose 1...a very young kitten who I believe thought that they would come back for her,and stayed in that exact spot,on the snow bank...with big trucks driving by,in -40C...and,froze to the snowbank.I found it the next morning and could not stop crying! My heart felt like it was breaking.I called newspapers,radio and television...wanted the public to see and those people who did this to see that poor terrified kitten...but,only the 1 TV channel came out and the short blurb was only very minimal and ran only 1 time.I thought ..how can anyone learn from this when the station could not be bothered to give decent exposure. If,they had someone may have recognized the cat and turned them in...OR it might have stopped people from dumping them.Although, I don't believe the latter..that type os person dumping their pets when it is so cold would dump them anytime and never learn...Sadistic bastards...sorry,but cannot think of a better term,

Omg I love max!!! He is giving me life!!! This series of videos about his vet visit is one of the funniest thing I've ever seen! Makes me want another large parrot again (I rescued a hybrid macaw & only had the honor of him in my life for about a year before he passed away from a rare brain tumor - I loved him so much - he was so sweet & funny - broke my heart when he died & I swore I could not risk going thru that again - but that was many years ago & max makes me reconsider!! Thanks for sharing!
Don't know if they still have them, but there use to be perch covers that were covered with a sandy material. Trouble was, sometimes they would scrape the bottom of birds' legs even to the point of drawing blood. At least concrete wouldn't do that.
Wow Max is a great cockatoo. You rarely see them this happy and fully feathered. It is so obvious he is loved. You are a great bird parent! It's funny he has the reaction to the carrier,. I have a 8 yo scarlet and she does the same thing. Because Scarlet macaws are so fiesty I have found the easiest way to transport her (esp because of the long tail) one of those big clear sterlite plastic tubs. I know it sounds crazy, but years ago when my house flooeded I had to find something quickly to put her in and Its what I had been storign my sweaters in at the time. To this day, it is still the easiest thing to get her into. We drilled a bunch of holes in it and put a perch in there for her. We just pick her up like a chicken, drop her in and put the lid on. We have added a bungee cord to the top to prevent her from popping the lid on it. I recommend checking it out! Because scarlets are so nippy and tempermental, I have an emergency kit prepared by her cage in case something happens (such as a fire or tornado).That way I can easily secure her and get her out safely. Its so great to see other people that have so much love and care for these amazing animals, they are so fascinating.

Max is absolutely beautiful! My parrot was adopted a little later in life, and never learned words or anything much that sounds like them, but she makes plenty of noise to let me know when she disapproves of something. :)

I love birds, especially Cockatoos...and Max is one of my favorites. I don't care that Max has a language all his own.....HE knows what HE is talking about and your conversations are fun. I also must commend you for being such an awesome 'dad' to Max. God made animals to teach us how to live....in the moment, no regrets and it's clear that Max is a good teacher. God bless you both and may you enjoy many years together. If I didn't have 2 dogs and 2 cats I would have a bird or two in a heartbeat...just don't trust my felines.

I just recently found Max. I fell in love with Max and you. When I want to be happy I first find Max. I always worry if they are one of those birds who live a long time, hoping if he outlives you you have the right person in mind to care for him. Max is absolutely beautiful! My parrot was adopted a little later in life, and never learned words or anything much that sounds like them, but she makes plenty of noise to let me know when she disapproves of something. :)

I love birds, especially Cockatoos...and Max is one of my favorites. I don't care that Max has a language all his own.....HE knows what HE is talking about and your conversations are fun. I also must commend you for being such an awesome 'dad' to Max. God made animals to teach us how to live....in the moment, no regrets and it's clear that Max is a good teacher. God bless you both and may you enjoy many years together. If I didn't have 2 dogs and 2 cats I would have a bird or two in a heartbeat...just don't trust my felines.

Poor baby is scared.. I have a Quaker who does the same thing when he's terrified or doesn't wanna go to bed. I pick my bird up and put him in his carrier asap then out as quickly as possible. Beautiful Max ❤
You know, watching this makes me realize how insanely lucky I am. Wobbles LOVES his carrier! If I leave it on the floor he'll walk right in, even when we're not going anywhere!

I just recently found Max. I fell in love with Max and you. When I want to be happy I first find Max. I always worry if they are one of those birds who live a long time, hoping if he outlives you you have the right person in mind to care for him. They must be somebody as good to him as you are and who will spend the time with him that you do. I do love watching you two. 🎶❤️🎶
