      @@Kevin-kn6uqThe word long does not set a definite value making it an unreliable and at best a word of vague description. A long life is a word which relies on the perspective of the masses which at that time, wasn't very long at all. Like a contract, it's always safer to set a time frame as it is less likely to be broken during the set period of time. Sure man can barely live past a hundred years but an emperor back then has lived quite a long life if he hasn't already been assassinated by the age for 25.

    • @s.c.p-foundation6923
      @s.c.p-foundation6923 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kevin-kn6uq Sure I'm taking it apart word for word but it is also a sentence which anyone can get behind as it is grammatically correct. I see no problem with "May you live for a hundred thousand years" nor do I see a problem with "Long live the emperor" as they both have the same meaning and are expressed for the same purpose. I'm just saying that I prefer "Live for a hundred thousand years" as it is fitting and a direct translation.

That most defeats the Chinese milddle Kingdom suffers from was because of the superior number advantage the barbarians have over the Chinese armies.

Warfare during the age of steel was primarily a matter of organizing yourself to meet the enemy, then fight, then take a breather, then fight again. You always _knew when_ you'd be in danger. Today, a sniper could take your life when you're at the gate of the base or wandering the street. It's a complete change of stress-level.

      @deepak nagar Of course they didn't. We all know that. But that well known historical and geographical fact changes nothing of my curiosity for an estimation of their comparative martial strengths, and the question of which empire would have had the superior capacity to wage war, and to achieve total or partial victory and domination over the other. There have been many geopolitical entities who have conquered, or been conquered by, other entities with whom they did not share a contiguous territorial border....Rome and Northern Africa is one such case.
      But a Sino-Roman confrontation during the 1st or 2nd century would have been a very hard game to call. It probably would have come down to which Emperor reigned in either empire at the time. In war, leadership is everything. However, in my opinion, a Rome led by Augustus, or even Vespasian or his son, Titus, would have been hard to beat.
