  • Watch as we take this stock 2012 Wrangler and give it some suspension and exterior upgrades at an impressively low cost.
    This Wrangler will be transforming from basic to beefy with upgrades suspension modifications from Teraflex including the 2.5" Lift Kit with Shocks. This lift kit will add some additional clearance for when out on the trails. Next, we installed the Teraflex HD Front Forged Adjustable Trackbar and the Teraflex Steering Stabilizer for some additional support. Finally, the Barricade Trail Force HD Front Bumper was installed to keep this Wrangler fully protected out on the trails.

    I just put the Teraflex 2.5 basic kit on my '09 JKU. The install took me about 6 hours and I'm very happy with the ride afterwards. The suspension feels tight and handles bumps much better than stock. You don't a spring compressor, it can all be done with a couple jack stands and a good jack. I do suggest upgrading the track bar as well, stock is a bit weak as they mentioned. Well worth the price tag in my opinion.

      Since we did this build awhile ago, I'm not 100% sure what tire pressure we set those MTs to. In order to get a smoother ride out of larger mud terrains, you generally will have the tire pressure be a little bit lower than normal. On 33s, I'd recommend starting your PSI out around 32 and going from there. Hope this helps! -Zach

    I have this lift on my, new to me, 2010 rubi 2 door, but I have 35” tires and it handles like crap, and a lot of rubbing on the fenders when flexed out. I would not recommend 35’s. In the very near future I will be swapping out the tires for a set of 33’s.

    • @extremeterrain
      @extremeterrain  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      15 inch wheels are a tough fit on JK's because of their larger brake calipers, you really need make sure you have enough backspacing. Steel wheels tend to be heavier than aluminum wheels as well, which can affect your fuel economy more when getting new wheels and tires. -Zach

    • @extremeterrain
      @extremeterrain  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really comes down to your specific setup. I'd recommend using the chalk test. I'll post a link below, or you can search on TH-cam here and I'm sure you'll be able to find a video. Basically, you're just using some chalk to figure out at what PSI your tires need to be perfectly seated on the ground without being over-inflated. Best of luck! -Zach

    Oooo, this the video I want to see. We just got a "New to Us" 2019 Wrangler and now I want to go up 2.5". But I keep hearing go 35's ... but when I see pics, the 35's look tooooo big. Like when things get flexy, they are going to rub all to hell (especially when we add a quick disconnect). But of course, we don't want it to look stupid either (tires look too small)... GOTTA have some cool factor. So I been trying to find what that 2.5" lift will look, AND perform with a set of 33's instead. I feel this combo will work best when actually off roading and give tons of wiggle room when she starts to flex. Perfect video, thank you

    • @extremeterrain
      @extremeterrain  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      33s on a 2.5" lift would be perfect for your JL! You'll be able to get more flex on the trails, get better fuel economy compared to 35s, retain better road driving manors compared to 35s, and they're cheaper than 35s too! Thanks for watching! -Zach

    Looks good. For nearly the same look in that tire size I would run a 285/70/17. It is so close I doubt you could tell the difference and far more options with a lower price.Even going up to a 285/75/17 is cheaper and had about the same amount of options.

    • @extremeterrain
      @extremeterrain  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's definitely another option, yes! Especially if you prefer something with the same height as a 33x12.5R17 with a little less width. That would be the only giveaway in tire size, a 285 regardless of 70 or 75 will look a tad skinnier than a standard 12.5" wide. -Zach

      Current prices can be found by following the links on our site! Labor is going to vary depending on your area, what kind of shop you go to and whether or not they specialize in 4x4s, and the amount of extra replacement parts needed depending on the mileage of your Wrangler. Hey Ian! There's a lot of factors that could be the cause of the steering shimmy. Bigger tires will cause some bounce, alignment out of whack, and also have you checked the trackbar? Let me know! -Jake

      Is this Jeep on 3.21 gears? Does it seem more sluggish with the 33's? Did the fuel economy drop significantly? Like the show, thanks!

      John, We got a 2014 JK 4 door on 33" Nittos. Averaged about 17 MPG doing 75 MPH! Not bad for hauling ass in a car shaped like a brick. Tires felt solid, didn't notice much difference in ride quality

      I get the same in a 27 yearold squarebody Suburban 4x4 on 33" and a wore out 5 7 tbi/700r4.
      Looks like tech hasnt done much for mpg in two decades

    Just a tip to anyone reading this. Consider getting an adjustable lower front control arms or a front control arm bracket. Especially with 2 doors they get twitchy and flighty steering when you don’t return the caster to stock or close to stock.

    • @extremeterrain
      @extremeterrain  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adjustable front lower control arms are honestly the way to go if you have room in your budget! That way you can *really* dial in your alignment up front. Adjustable track bars work wonders too for helping everything stay planted. -Zach

    Do not use wheel spacers. They KILLED my friends daughter. Back in 2010 she was driving on the QEW highway near Toronto Canada, the back tire of a pick-up truck came off and entered the oncoming traffic and killed my friends Daughter Megan instantally. The reason for the tire coming off was eventually traced back to the installation of a wheel spacer on the pick-up truck. Wheel spacers should be outlawed.
