  • All-on-4, All-on-x, All-on-6 Soft Food Diet with Dr. O Week 1 Recap
All-on-4, All-on-x, All-on-6 Dental Implants all require the patient to commit to a 90-day soft food diet to allow for the implants to lock in the bone after initial placement. In order to better relate to my patients I Dr O and committing to 90 days of only eating foods that I can easily cut with a plastic fork ie soft food diet. when implants are initially placed they are relying purely on the tightness that they place in the bone and over time they become more loose but the magical thing happens with the body where it will grow bone that will adhere to the dental implant surface in a process called osseo integration. This process is what makes implants a great long-term solution for teeth that do not come in and out and that are fixed and screwed into dental implants replacing the need for dentures. As a doctor who focuses on this treatment and asks patients every week to commit to this 90-day diet I felt it would be a good learning experience and a way to better relay with my amazing patients! follow along with me for the next 11 weeks as I go the full 90 days to learn more about this diet provide your experience, give feedback, get great tips on recipes, and food modification to still enjoy life during this period.
Week one was definitely a learning experience. I learned really quickly that preparation is going to be key for having foods that I enjoy especially for lunch! I found that dinner is easier because of the time that I have to plan and think about it whereas lunch is more on the go especially as a dentist in between patients. Unfortunately for those that love breakfast and want lots of options you're probably not going to get it from me since I love eggs and I have them everyday and of course they are soft. The good news is that a nice brainstorm of breakfast foods I can think of most of them that are soft except for the beloved bacon.

As a person that just had an all-on-4 procedure... I respect you doing this, but you are forgetting about how sensitive the roof and under the tongue is during the first week.. even diluted mashed potatoes with milk feels like sandpaper inside my mouth... so far all I've been able to handle is protein shakes and applesauce. I'm on day 5. Its getting old fast..

I’m on day four. I can barely eat. I basically put applesauce in my mouth and swallow. Chewing doesn’t seem like an option even with soft food.

Most people who are coming to you with bad teeth already can't eat hard food.

Liquid diet for the first 3 days and then Half the stuff your eating are not on the ‘mushy diet suggestions’ from my surgeon. I get masted potatoes, applesauce, creamy peanut butter, jello, pudding for the next 4 days. Then soft foods are allowed.
