I just found a 2017 with 48k miles for $34k! When the Civic Type R was new, dealers were marking them up to $60k which was ridiculous, but they aren't close to $60k anymore.
I wish i have one of those because of the 182 horsepower four cylinder boxer turbo engine and its made at the japaneese market. I wish someone can get one for my birthday
I have a 2019 STI. I got an offer from Subaru for 2021 STI I couldn't refuse. The used car market is so hot right now, the amount of equity for the 2019 with almost 19k miles barely depreciated. Some notable differences for 2021 and mine are push to start, the center console head looks a lot more sturdy compared to mine which I am excited for. I believe the front vents are functional now for more cooling (yay). I learned manual on the 2019 and kept great care of it. I am sad to see it go to someone new, but so excited for the new car. I plan to modify it. One arguement people make is that they want to wait for the new motor. Why wait for potential flaws on the first gen motor when you can build your own with years of research and development in the aftermarket? It seems like a win to me, but to each their own! Great vid!
well said Christopher. I pulled the trigger on a 2021 Sti 2 weeks ago for the same reasons. 2019+ has the type RA engine upgrades too. IMHO, makes it a better "value"
The Genesis Coupe was a fun car for sure. We owned two of them back in the day. This is pretty on par tho in performance stock for stock. But with mods both car can get pretty quick
I'm so excited to get an STi! Would you recommend it as a second car? Also I currently drive a 2014 Sport Auto Lancer, would you know if the STi feels similar to drive/handle if you've ever driven a regular Lancer before? Can't really test drive a WRX/STi until I get on my full licence which is in about 2 years, laws are strict here in Australia, NSW. Awesome review anyways, keep it up!
The WRX is a fun car for sure, as a second car, that's up to you if you can afford that and want two vehicles! They are going to handle completely different! I've been in the lancer before and it's just like a normal sedan, the STI has completely different handling characteristics and is a lot more sporty! Glad you enjoyed the review and hopefully that helps!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed cheers for the reply, helps a lot! You mentioning it handles completely different and more sporty has gotten me even more excited, haha.
Went from a 2010 sti hatch to a bran new 2018 brz RU and currently trading my brz in for 25grand trade in while ordered a 2021 wrx sti sport tech, brz was fun but nothing compared to STI back to the turbo club !
Me and my dad are trying to choose between this and a BMW m4. Problem is, M4 is twice the price and, living in utah, we wouldnt be able to drive in the winter much at all. Starting to lean towards this a lot more. Seems super fun and comfortable to drive. Also does very well in the winter.
The BMW M4 will be offered in AWD I believe at some point, but even with that, I think the Subaru would be a better option especially since it has a snow mode! Put on some snow tires during the winter and you have a pretty capable sedan!
I got a 21 WRX in Pure Red with the Kicker Speaker Upgrade and the STI throw shifter and the Vortex Generator. Next is the exhaust system and some rays wheels
@@BrosFOURRSpeed my car right now is a 2017 Ford Focus with the dct. It’s quick but not fast like the sti. (Non turbo) but it can go through all gears and pull real hard if done right.
I’ve always liked the WRX STI. Seems like a fun car. But that rear wing is a little too much! Wish they’d lower it about five inches. It just looks way too high.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed they're listed at that and you call only for them to add 5 to 10k. I kinda refuse to buy a used car at 30 k anyways. I'll give it a few more weeks amd probably just get an sti or go cheap for an accord sport
Whichever car makes the most sense for you! I don't think I could spend that much on a Type R when the competitors are AWD and that's just FWD. It's cool, but can't hang with the STI!
Had to watch to see if I wanted one, nah I'll keep my 05 all day lol this is a Honda Accord Type R with a Subaru badge. Subaru dropped the ball after 2014.
I just wish that most of the Subaru WRX and STi models to sti have the traditional twist key ignition. If it is alright to ask, is a WRX a good car to learn manual on please?
After daily driving a base wrx for the last 4 years I feel qualified to say that no, it is not. It was my 3rd MT car and by far the most difficult to get used to. My brother is learning to drive manual and he can drive most of them fine but not my wrx. And I struggled with it at first. Trading in for a 21 wrx sti. The sti trans is as easy and satisfying as the wrx trans is sloppy and annoying. Hope this helps. As far as best stock MT to learn on, I would recommend any Honda. The sti is great for sure and pretty bulletproof though could be a bit tricky starting out. I learned in a civic. Say what you like about honda, they do make an easy to drive manual. Definitely try before you buy though because everyone's preferences are a bit different.
You'd prefer the traditional turn key over push button? I like how it has keyless entry which you won't get with the turn key! Either way, the Subaru is a cool sedan!
I can see that somewhat. It's crazy to see how quick the bite point is on this clutch. I liked it and when I drove my R8 home after this, was weird to get used to that afterwards! I said it was easy because of how light feeling it was, but didn't really think about the bit point, I'm sure newbies would be stalling it quicker, but could still be a great car to learn on if a friend has one. But personal preference is a big factor for sure!!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed yes indeed,, that's interesting as well.. the clutch and trans on the wrx sti is night and day better than the wrx. I test drove an sti and I instantly had to have it, mainly for that reason. You have an R8? Nice, those cars are amazing and sound beautiful.
@@ianholmquist8492 thank you for the tip! Will definitely test the car put first to see if I like it and if it is something I'd be comfortable with as well :)
I just bought a Subaru WRX STI 2021 in September from the dealership and I am curious... Is it normal for the car to do a creaking nose when you steer all the way to the left or right while backing out of a parking spot or taking off in first gear. I just bought this car and it's interesting it would have a creaking noise as if the cv joints were already worn out or something when it's supposed to be a brand new car.
I’m looking at getting one of these. I currently have a stage-4 Focus ST. Wondering if I should wait till next year to get the new model. Love the wing but that looks like automatic car washes are a no go lol, which is annoying.
Yeah this would need a touches car wash for sure. But the brushes scratch up paint, so you shouldn't go in those anyways. I'm not too sure on the pricing for the new STI. But they will probably be a nice update. If you enjoy your car no harm in waiting until it's out
Just bought and drove home a 2021 sti. Managed to snag one of these new at msrp. All I can say is.. ive had about 20 cars and this car being the most fun overall
I just sold my 2017 FiST because I got nearly what I paid for it. Put it all towards a 2021 WR Blue Sti. Loving it!!!!!!!! Never run your car through an auto car wash-yikes!
As long as you have a good record, take the highest deductible and pay in full. It should t bee too much. But you're young, so that can only help so much.

@@BrosFOURRSpeed Subaru just got back to me and told me they were not able to create my customized 2021 because they were not producing them anymore due to the new 2022. Instead they gave me options of what's already coming to them (last ones). He told me he would reserve it for me to check it out, but it's not limited like I wanted it. I'll check it out, but i'm not totally convinced. Looks like Subaru will lose this customer for their failure to produce something good 2022. I'm gonna purchase a Toyota truck instead.
Just sold my 2012 STi hatchback - considering this, a Type R, a GR Yaris or a Veloster N DCT. Considering that since the VN PP isn't available locally in my country and I'd still have to import it, the price comes out to equal both my three other options. Any thoughts?
I know right! I know a lot of people are wanting that for the BRZ, the 2022 model will have an increase in power, but it's not what the buyers are looking for!
Why not? In a manual you can skip gears. I was at my cruising speed, no need to go into 5th just to go right into 6th. When you downshift you don't always go into consecutive gears. Beauty of a stick ;)
It’s limited to 174mph top speed but that’s not why you buy the car 😂 also idk why anyone says 0-60 times in manual cars anymore lol. If the time is 4.5 a new driver can maybe do it in 6. Maybe travis pastrana can do it 4 flat who knows 😅
After filming this I found the top speed at 174, I said the WRX number for that, but I just state the 0-60 from what the manufacture says, it will vary depending on whose driving for sure!
I pushed in the clutch before lifting off the gas. Still getting used to this clutch compared to my R8, but after a few miles I was getting comfortable with it!
They omitted the intercooler sprayer this particular MY, you can see the blank button on the dash front panel. No bronze BBS wheels. I’m tempted but......I’m not committed. Maybe yes, maybe no for me.

@@SaceedAbul you must be shopping in Dubai cause in Chicago they're $39k $43k topps
The Civic Type R is also front wheel drive, so not as sporty as the Subaru! You get a lot of torque steer in that if you try to tune it for more power! We haven't reviewed the RT yet, but did the Scat Pack wide body! th-cam.com/video/6RV-dPQ0o7M/w-d-xo.html
I just found a 2017 with 48k miles for $34k! When the Civic Type R was new, dealers were marking them up to $60k which was ridiculous, but they aren't close to $60k anymore.
Yeah they aren't even close to $60k, new dealers were marking them up which was crazy to see!
I wish i have one of those because of the 182 horsepower four cylinder boxer turbo engine and its made at the japaneese market. I wish someone can get one for my birthday
Subaru STI is a fun car!
I will work hard to buy this car
Awesome! STI is a fun car!
I hate that they took the red backlight gauge ..... so iconic and beautiful looking for the sti
Red backlight looks so old and dingy in my option. I had that in a car and white is way better!
I think I'll buy it..
Thank you!
Nice! Can't go wrong with the STI! Fantastic sportscar!
They really need to finally overhaul the STI.
Yep but as soon as they do everyone will complain and want this gen back.
@@ianholmquist8492 Then they should just go buy a used one, they're everywhere.
I could see that! I believe 2022 has some changes coming so we'll see!
Haha yeah, you can't win with what people want! A new design would probably look to modern for what the buyers of a Subaru want maybe!
That's a good point too! Maybe we'll see some changes!
The Subaru WRX looks alright
I think you have to get the WRX in a color to look good, red, blue or even white!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed ok I think the red would look good
That's a good color for it to!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I know right 😎
Would you consider it as a family car? Obviously SUV are ideal but I like fast cars.
This could be a great option for a sedan if you want a sport car! Not the biggest thing out there. But still useful
Great vid!
Nice upgrade! Car market is hot, so good job taking advantage of that!
Glad you enjoyed the video and like the new changes!
well said Christopher. I pulled the trigger on a 2021 Sti 2 weeks ago for the same reasons. 2019+ has the type RA engine upgrades too. IMHO, makes it a better "value"
Can’t beat my genesis coupe
The Genesis Coupe was a fun car for sure. We owned two of them back in the day. This is pretty on par tho in performance stock for stock. But with mods both car can get pretty quick
You’re soooo cool
My dream car...!
Keep working towards it!! The Subaru WRX is such a fun sedan and this was a sweet STI spec for sure!
Idk man you just look right in an STI
Haha yeah! It's a sweet sedan for sure! Love how you could fit the family and still have a fun car to drive around in!
Went from a 2010 sti hatch to a bran new 2018 brz RU and currently trading my brz in for 25grand trade in while ordered a 2021 wrx sti sport tech, brz was fun but nothing compared to STI back to the turbo club !
Oh wow! Yeah that's a big jump from the BRZ back to the STI! It's definitely a fun sedan!!
Beautiful Sports Car.
It sure is! Can't go wrong with the Subaru blue!
Would you choose a 21 Civic Type R or the STI or MX5 (Not the fastest but very light and super fun to drive) ?
Probably the Type R. It's a really fun car! Non are really my kind of car tho
Brilliant review - We want to get our hands on one!
Thanks! The 2021 STI is a great car for sure. You'll enjoy checking one out
Me and my dad are trying to choose between this and a BMW m4.
Awesome! Red is a great color for these! And an exhaust will sound amazing ;)
David Spade reviewing cars now these days lol
Yup, that's my side hustle now!
awesome bro
Oh yeah! Love this blue on the STI!
I love this
The STI is a fun sedan to drive!!
That will our first sports car to buy soon from Philippines 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Nice! Great choice!
They should make a dct version of the Sti
Yeah that'd be cool! I know they do a CVT for the WRX. Can't imagine how boring that would be to drive lol. But a DCT would be great!
I've always like them too! Maybe a few inches lower, but it's high enough for visibility out of the rear view mirror which is nice!
The more trouble I have finding a Type R at MSRP the more tempting and STI gets.
I've seen a good amount of Type R's in the $30k range!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed agreed. Couldn’t see myself paying that much for a Honda.
@@JM00914 I'm sure it's good, but not performance oriented really.
Soon to be mine here in Philippines.✌️🤙🤘
Very cool! Keep working towards it!
That is nice.God. I think it's 27.01 in it.
It’s a cool Subaru!
Had to watch to see if I wanted one, nah I'll keep my 05 all day lol this is a Honda Accord Type R with a Subaru badge. Subaru dropped the ball after 2014.
lol. This is my favorite generation of these to be honest. The new one I'm not a fan of. Looks too 'Subaruy'
Hmm, could be that. Or maybe it's just normal sound since parts have to move. Could have dirt in there too
Considering picking one of these up until the Cybertruck is ready? How is the resale on lightly used/stock ones?
These seem to hold value very well!
Is this a base model or limited? I am curious if the base models come with those headlights too…
This is the base. If it wee Limited I would of had that in the title ;)
Great video. Not a whole lot of differences even between the 2017 STI... kind of disappointing.
Yeah this is still the same as the current generation. Hopefully 2022 will be an all new car!
2019 they added a new block
@@tonyr1615 why?
I’m thinking on getting it in my junior year in college but I’m afraid of insurance costs lmao.
As long as you have a good record, take the highest deductible and pay in full. It should t bee too much. But you're young, so that can only help so much.
Great video as always!
I appreciate that, glad you enjoyed the Subaru review! I always love getting to drive these!
22 mpg on the high way wow that terrible very few people will buy that in the uk....
Yeah it's not the best for a 4 cylinder car. But this car is about performance not mpg lol
Love how these reviewers just hop in brand new cars and start ripping.
When did I “rip it” in this Subaru?? We don’t abuse cars we don’t own so I’m curious where you saw that in this review.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Look in the manual for the break in procedure.
@@AndyDufresne4 Driving the car like normal is fine for a break in, not redlining or anything crazy. You can drive a manual easy for the break in period…still not seeing what you mean.
Infotainment is stuck in 2015. Lololll 😂
I believe the 2022 model for the Subaru WRX will be completely redesigned!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I hope so...
Great video bros 4 speed
Thanks 👍. It's a fun car to drive!
Is there any subtle difference between the 2020 and 2021 STI?
Not that I saw! I reviewed a 2020 as well and they seem very similar!
Love everything but the rims
Yeah they aren't anything too special looking. A lot of people put aftermarket wheels on these anyways
I thought I hated the wheels too until I saw them in person. They look mean af
Is Subaru still making the 2021 model? I just tried purchasing one but because the 2022 model just premiered they might of stopped production on these. I'm waiting for them to contact me about whether I can get one or not. I really hope I can because I do not like the 2022 model it's a horrible design and with cheap plastic all over.
I feel like production probably is about done. Not sure tho. Hopefully they get back with you soon! The 2022 looks like a Crosstrek with those flares. Not a fan either
Type R is a great car! I'd go for that. It's a step above the Yaris and Veloster for sure. And no torque steer!
the sti top speed is 175 pretty sure
Yeah that is right, I reviewed a WRX a few days after this and found that out!
Great 👍 content bro
Appreciate it! Thanks for checking out the Subaru review!
May i know why you kept shifting from 4th gear to 6ix?
Because in a manual so can shift between whichever gears you choose! There’s no order in a manual. th-cam.com/video/Vx6vgKPFugs/w-d-xo.html
@@BrosFOURRSpeed ok i thought there was a specific reason
Put that engine in the BRZ
I know right! I know a lot of people are wanting that for the BRZ, the 2022 model will have an increase in power, but it's not what the buyers are looking for!
dude you forgot the water spray for the intercooler?
The STI has a feature like that stock?
hmm just bought a slightly beat up '17 WRX... think i'll pay it off fast & trade up to this. 2025 let's go! (i'll be 43 then omfing gahd)
Oh nice! Too bad the STI is discontinued. But a good used STI will still cost money in the future tho!
sweet 🔥
Oh yeah!! It's always fun to drive the subies! Especially the STI!
Why are you shifting from 4th to 6th
I'm sure the wing doesn't help overall top speed since its so big
@10:57 great way to have massive clutch wear folks ~ push the clutch in before lifting off the gas (causes the over rev) pedal to change gears ;)
I pushed in the clutch before lifting off the gas. Still getting used to this clutch compared to my R8, but after a few miles I was getting comfortable with it!
Fuck it ama buy one by the end of the year
Very cool! The Subaru's are fun sedans!!
I thought those recarros weren’t optional but standard in the STi Ltd.?
They were around $4k I think on the window sticker so they were optional in this model. This wasn't a limited so maybe that's why.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed ah ok, no sunroof then. Yes, it is a option in that trim.
They omitted the intercooler sprayer this particular MY, you can see the blank button on the dash front panel. No bronze BBS wheels. I’m tempted but......I’m not committed. Maybe yes, maybe no for me.
@@johnnykwon8173 Yea it was missing a few things.
@@johnnykwon8173 Yea the bronze wheels really change the look in a good way!
Does this model still have the EJ Engine?
I'm not familiar enough with Subaru engines to know that specific
Can make video on latest model of ferrari
I wish! We don't have much access to review Ferrari's but if we get the chance for sure!
So does the Sti only come in manual?
I believe so! The WRX has an automatic version. But I can't see why someone would want that. kills the fun I think
does it have adaptive cruise control, lane assist, blind spot detection, or any of those other features a lot of cars have standard now?
You said top speed is 150mph but it shows 180mph
The speedometer doesn't mean it can go that fast. It only does that for appearance.
