I've always been a fan of the WRX, and the STI is really impressive. The fact that it's a sports car, but also a good all year vehicle is really nice. Not all cars of this nature can be driven in the snow like a WRX can. That means confidence all around. Though, I doubt you get much snow where you are, but up North here, this car would be great to have.
For sure! Really good blend of everything and not many cars can compete! I think the Audi S2 is the next best competitor. No manual, but you get the refinements.
I have owned 4 different Subaru STIs. I currently own a 2020 white pearl limited model and let me confirm what he says is truly on point. I’ve owned 12 cars in my life including a BRZ Ts, ND2 Miata and a 2018 WRX. The Subaru STI just speaks to me. It just fits me like a glove. The other cars were great but I am a firm believer that If I didn’t grab the last of the EJs I would regret it. They won’t make cars like this ever again. It’s the last of the great cars as we move into the electronic era. The car feels old school and that’s exactly the reason I love it and find it unique. It’s also gained so much value in the market! I’m not letting go of this beauty ever.
Such an awesome review. I recently traded in my 2019 mustang gt premium performance pack 1 for a white 2021 sti base and I've never been happier and felt the connection that I do with my car. That all wheel drive experience is incredible and now I see why this car has been around for as long as it has 😎💪💯
Im telling you this, i have seen so many people trade in their 5.0 mustang for an STI all over the internet, yet i dont seem to find anyone trading their sti for a mustang lol. I was stuck between a mustang gt premium or a sti or a challenger scat pack but im glad i went with the sti ultimately looks like according to the majority i went with the right decision lol
Got my grey 2021 STI in September and my thoughts exactly on the value of the car is truly what you feel and get out of it and I personally will always have this car in my inventory considering this is the last year of the old EJ engine and the infamous hydraulic steering since the 2022 is shifting to a Subaru global platform and moving to electronic steering instead, which I am not a fan of. Thanks guys and congrats on completing pilot school Conner and as Brian said, "it's only up from here!"

Hard work pays off! Awesome to see what he's done! Recently sold the STI and is now a full blown pilot! Looking for an F-Type now ;) Keep working toward you goals!
I sold my 2018 WRX very sadly, college got more expensive so I needed the money. I had an intake, bypass valve, a cheap axleback exhaust, and a custom tune. Was the car fast? Not at all. Was the car FUN? Absolutely. I really miss the sounds and the manual and the looks a lot. Yeah, the stereo sounded like a rattling 8 bit speaker system, but the experience overall was really something.
Sometimes you just have to part ways to make other goals happen and hopefully you can get back into one once you're done with college! That's way more important and at some point, if you really miss it, you can get another one!
I owned the 2017 WRX for 4 years and this year I upgraded to the 2020 base model WRX/ STI and I love the STI much better. The WRX was a great car but the STI is the icing on the cake. I purchased my 2020 STI on January 29th out here @ Escondido Carmax and paid for it off the lot. I find out March 11th this year they will not be making anymore STIs. A great video brothers and you are on point with all the topics about this car. Subies forever guys and gals. My Bluebaru is wingless. I got the cat with low miles. @@BrosFOURRSpeed The regular Focus isn’t sold in the states anymore, so the Focus ST isnt sold in the states anymore either. But they’re continuing to sell them in Europe and Australia. The Focus ST MK4 is the first Focus ST to be put on sale with the option of an automatic gearbox, but if I were to buy one, I would always go for three pedals.
I like my 20 sti, already have a list of parts, about 5k worth, not including new turbos or injectors. Also picked out a new set of rims, hopefully ill have it built the way i want in a year. It's a really fun car though
I am a fan of the boxer engines in Subaru, they sound like Harley Davidsons when fitted with an aftermarket exhaust. Probably the beefiest sounding 4 cylinder around the WRX/STI.

Oh nice! He has plans to get the Cobb and already has an intake for it. So he'll do a tune for those and it should be a good reliable setup! That'll be fun to do!
Love mine. I have the stage 1 tune with the cobb redline carbon intake. It's a good idea. It helps with the weird timing mapping from the stock tune. Also helps with the top end feel. Good luck. Congrats 👏
Now that I own a 2014 wide body STI, I can truly understand why generally men take pride in their cars. That purr is an obsession lol I don’t think I’ll ever go back to an automatic.

I have a 6 speed 2011, but I think an automatic would open the market to more people. It’s the best car I have ever driven. Hopefully the 2022, 2023 will have enough hp to remain competitive and keep it fun.
Watching this with my na impreza sitting outside, wanting to be replaced with a stinkeye wx. I'd love an sti, but at 20 years old, don't think i can justify it. I have enough money to buy both outright but delayed gratification as you both said :) . Soon the time will come.
I drove 2017 wrx for 2 years and now driving my 2019 STI for 2 years. STI is way better coz there’s no rev hang. That’s the only thing from WRX that took out the fun. You literally have to wait like a second to match the gear STI didn’t have it at all and more fun to drive
I feel like the STI is a completed car where the WRX is not. Even putting aside the performance difference. The STI looks much nicer with the rims, brakes, and spoiler. The only mod someone might do is exhaust and tune.
I can see that. The WRX is basically an Impreza with a powerful engine and some red stitching. The STI is the final product with the supporting mods and interior to match. Makes it for good choice between the two tho for sure
He plans on just doing a the basic setup with the cobb tune. I've been using the Cobb on my GTR and it has been amazing. You can get the same exact tuning. All depends on the Tuner
I'd love to drive one but reality says I hit massive potholes and drive rocky, rutted dirt/trail roads all the time and that car isn't up to my challenges. What I can afford is slower and less fun but I need at minimum way more ground clearance.
Yeah that's a good competitor. But that hasn't been made in many many years. So it's not on the same level. Also doesn't nearly have the same interior quality or tech
@@BrosFOURRSpeed that’s good to know and so I can learn to drive stick cuz I never learned my dad, my aunt, my uncles know how to drive MT in their youth
Where do you live to be able to pick it up for 33 lol? I might trade my Wrx for one if I found that. In Oregon they’re 38 with like 60k miles and under 2018. 19+ with low miles… 40-46 costing like new with mark up lol.
He found it on FaceBook market place local. Great deal and the owner through in a brand new set of PS4S tires and an intake! So he got lucky to be honest!
I just got mine at cascade over by river road there’s like 4 STI for sale at a different lot kind of next to toxic wing. Not sure on the price or mileage but I’m glad I scored a 2014 wide body STI for 21000 for $34 I guess I lucked out. Keep searching I’m sure you’ll find the right one!
Wait, it gets good gas mileage ?! I have the same car and Im getting about 19/mpg. Its as bad as a pick up truck. And that's driving normally and in intelligent. That's horrible gas mileage.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Is that just the nameless full muffler "delete" version of the axleback? Or does it have the 3 or 4 inch muffler? I have a 2021 STI and have been considering getting the full delete version by Nameless if it doesn't drone.
Tbh the extra 10k is not worth it. Not unless you spend another 10k to tune and unleash the actual potential so in the end of the day you’re dropping 50-60k for a 4banger. I’d rather have a Supra. Just being honest.
Keep in mind this is a $33k car. Not $50k+ like a Supra. But also, the STI holds it's value over the WRX. So you will retain more value then a modified WRX. If you're going to use the extra performance it's worth the increase in price. If not, then I'd stick with a WRX. But a new WRX is about the same as this used STI. I'd take the miles to get the better car
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I’ve owned a 2018 wrx and now a 2019 STi. I can’t justify the extra money unless I’m talking to people saying I got the STi. They feel pretty much identical if all you’re doing is driving normally. However that said if you wanna track it or take it to the dirt you’re gonna need to dump more money to unlock that potential, that’s what I’m saying. By then you’ll just be dropping around 50k for a 4 cylinder. Pro tuners here want about 8,000 to add a j pipe a tune and roughly 40hp. Don’t get me wrong I love my car, I just don’t see the price being justified is all. 30-33k new yes. Not 40-42k new that’s a bit steep imo. One thing I will say.. when it rains I am a happy driver. This thing just give you confidence in the weather like nothing I’ve ever driven before 👍
@@brian5863 yeah if you’re just daily driving you’ll never notice the difference for sure. But once you get into some spirited mountain driving or track days. The difference is huge. Same with driving in snow and rain
The VA guys are going to be triggered lol. The STI is much more of an enthusiast car, the LSD’s, the DCCD, the hydraulic steering feel, the subie rumble. If gas mileage is your issue: get a prius
They are so unreliable. So yeah if you like them than never go over 5000 rpm lol. I drive around in a SS L98 V8 and every STI doesn't want a race. If any do they are left so far behind it's hilarious

I have a 6 speed 2011, but I think an automatic would open the market to more people. It’s the best car I have ever driven. Hopefully the 2022, 2023 will have enough hp to remain competitive and keep it fun.
@@philipe7937 ima have to disagree. The STI is an enthusiast car and an automatic would not match at all
Watching this with my na impreza sitting outside, wanting to be replaced with a stinkeye wx. I'd love an sti, but at 20 years old, don't think i can justify it. I have enough money to buy both outright but delayed gratification as you both said :) . Soon the time will come.
Keep working towards your goals! You'll get what you want ;)
At 20 yrs old, you could do a second if not third job
I drove 2017 wrx for 2 years and now driving my 2019 STI for 2 years.
STI is way better coz there’s no rev hang. That’s the only thing from WRX that took out the fun. You literally have to wait like a second to match the gear
STI didn’t have it at all and more fun to drive
There are a ton of differences for sure with the STI. Really impressed with it and certainly offers the true performance.
Yo the axle back makes the difference 😭
It does! Sounds so good! He recently did an intake and tune. Car is so much better now! th-cam.com/video/WWYOLdWUgRw/w-d-xo.html
Bro, gotta get that ELH already!
WHat's that?
@@BrosFOURRSpeed equal length header
Both of my parents drove Subaru cars and truck with manual transmission.
Oh very cool!
I just bought a 2017 sti for 25k and the wrx/sti are going for 30/40
Nice! Great find!
What did you like more, the 370z or the sti?
Personally the Z. This is my friends car, and he loves these STI's. I like 2 door RWD cars a lot more
They're certainly hot, but personally, I don't like their body style. I prefer coupes and hatchbacks and that's why I drive Honda.
Cool!
Would love to get one here in Europe, but we pay 9$ a gallon. I think about it everyday If I should get it…
Oh wow! That'd be a cool car tho
What would you list as proper reliability mods if you also have a warranty like Zurich
Basic intake and cutback exhausts are safe. Lowering springs and wheel spacers. All good go to mods
What do you fly? My first gig was flying newspapers.. lol
Connor will have to comment on this one. But I think the CRJ700 will be one of the first commercial flights he will be on
What exhaust does this thing have? Looking to upgrade mine. Thanks
I believe it was a Nameless axle back
If he does get an intake or any mods make sure he gets a pro tune not a cobb one, the cobb ones are garbage
It can be a rally car lol! But if you are driving heavy roads like that, a truck is probably a better bet!
It’s designed after a rally car.
@@andresgutierrez6522 and exudes nothing about rally cars.
What exhaust does the car have? Invidia Q300?
I'm not really too sure. Just an axle back. I think it was Nameless
Is this a good first car for new drivers?
The Subaru WRX is a good first manual to learn on so if you are wanting to drive a manual, I would say so!
What about an evo x in comparison?
Yeah that's a good competitor. But that hasn't been made in many many years. So it's not on the same level. Also doesn't nearly have the same interior quality or tech
3:07 Gas mileage??? From a turbocharged boxer boy engine and its great on gas?! I never knew that but the truth is out
Yeah, most of these engines get good mpg.
@@hunnybunns747 yeah, I’d want 19+
My 21 limited was 44k before taxes and fees 4 months ago.
Wait, it gets good gas mileage ?! I have the same car and Im getting about 19/mpg. Its as bad as a pick up truck. And that's driving normally and in intelligent. That's horrible gas mileage.
19 really isn't that bad, but everyone can have a different view on what's bad mpg.
Full size pickups get 19mpg now. And they weigh almost twice what a sti does..
Please please please start using a lav mic. It will take your channel to the next level
I've looked into that a bit but the ones we tried didn't seem to sound good at all
He got it with 33gs how many miles
It was about 20k miles
Stock exhaust?
Had a Nameless axle back
@@BrosFOURRSpeed thanks
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Is that just the nameless full muffler "delete" version of the axleback? Or does it have the 3 or 4 inch muffler? I have a 2021 STI and have been considering getting the full delete version by Nameless if it doesn't drone.
@@Landitty get a full catback you won’t regret it. Axle back is ok but not as clean.
are you going from 4th to 6th? if so, why?
Why not? If I'm already up to mu causing speed, no need to go into 5th gear to then put it right into 6th gear. Beauty of a manual, you can skip gears
@@BrosFOURRSpeed honestly it was a genuine question, im learning now and didnt know you could do that.
Gotcha. All part of the fun with a manual. At whatever speed you are going you have the freedom to pick the best gear for the situation your in
Thinking about buying one of these, heard the clutch can be soft?
Anything else I should look out for when inspecting?
Stop giving me bad ideas 💡 😈
Get one! lol
The VA guys are going to be triggered lol.
The STI is much more of an enthusiast car, the LSD’s, the DCCD, the hydraulic steering feel, the subie rumble.
If gas mileage is your issue: get a prius
lol The STI is definitely a big step up. Especially after really running this car through some paces vs his WRX. Great car for the enthusiast
STI kills the wrx in every category
Heck yeah! Such a nice upgrade for the car!
I’m pushing just over 350 whp on my Wrx and it’s more than enough for me. That outdated Ej is the reason I didn’t go for the Sti.
That's nice power bump! Honestly the STI feels much better tho.
The outdated EJ is the reason I got a

It’s a Subaru
It sure is
FWD is just not a sporty setup - never will be
Very true!
They are so unreliable. So yeah if you like them than never go over 5000 rpm lol.
I drive around in a SS L98 V8 and every STI doesn't want a race. If any do they are left so far behind it's hilarious
These just need some car to be reliable. Ive seen some blow up with major mods and some stock ones with issues. But it can depend.
The worst
Can to be more specific on that? What has your personal experience been with owning this car?
