    Everyone always talks about the STI only having a different turbo and brembo brakes over WRX, but it's much more than that, the reason STI handles so well is because it has a front LSD, rear LSD, and center DCCD diff, WRX has none of that they have open diffs. It would be well over $10k to put the tranny, brembos, and all the diffs in to WRX, so the cost in STI is well worth it.

      LSDs and center diff itself well worth over the price difference.

    Love my 2021 STI. I'm so glad I grabbed it when I did. Such a fun ride

    I've had my 2016 STi for almost 8 years now. The car is a great blend of capability, practicality and enough performance to make my commute through the backroads of NJ and Pennsylvania fun on a daily basis. There's a good level of driver engagement, and enough comfort for longer trips. I have a a 2023 Supra Gr as well, and while that car is much sharper and and has a much higher performance envelope, I really notice the difference in steering feel, with way more feedback through the Sti's hydraulic rack, and while you do need to be a bit deliberate in shifting the 6 sp manual, I can appreciate the mechanical feel of the rod actuated linkage. So maybe a more analog driving experience, but definitely an engaging one. And when the weather gets a bit dicey, you know the Sti is going to be able to handle it.

      Thanks. I heard the Supra is sketch when you push it on Canyons (snap oversteer and guardrails). That makes it difficult to access. Is that your observation.
      I'm kinda between an 86 (which I absolutely loved loved but a bit way of the engine complaints) and the modernized STI (GR Corolla). 😅

      Where you live?
      Supra here in Canada is useless….
      STI is a real 4 season sport car.

      No argument from me....Supra is in the garage until the snow melts. STi for the next several weeks.

    STi has hydraulic steering, not EPS. 👍

      I thought they did away with the hydraulic steering? Was that just when they dropped the STI in general?

    I have always loved my 2009 STI, that thing carried me throughout med school, cross multiple states for clinical rotations, residency interviews, throughout residency and finally died on my first day as staff. Drove through a puddle when Detroit flooded and unfortunately I had a cold air intake resulting in the car becoming hydrolocked. I finally have the means to revive the car so hopefully I will get it back soon but this time it’ll be a completely different beast.

    I dont even live a fancy life. My wife is a sahm. We have one child (almost 2 years old) and another on the way. We bought a town house in 2022 as we saw the writing on the wall as far as interest rates were concerned. Our mortgage/taxes are "only" $1700/month. We have no other debt. Our cars are paid off. I maxed out my retirement contributions last year (emplpyer paid about $30K of that value) i hope to do so moving forward.
    But other than that, and building up a 6 month emergency fund, we love very boring lives in a MCOL area and are desperately trying to save up to buy another home.

    Read the owners manual. The center diff control has nothing to do with torque shifting from front or back.

    • @CheekyTyke007
      @CheekyTyke007 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think you meant to say it has everything to do with torque shifting. It actually has both an electronically controlled clutch pack as well as a mechanical one. The electrical one determines how much torque is transferred front to back.

    • @NkProdTV

      For aftermarket performance you can make power with the new WRX platform way easier and cheaper compared to the older EJ platform. I got a 21’ STi and would need to dump 15K to make 500~ HP reliably

    • @CheekyTyke007
      @CheekyTyke007 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh god the 21 STi annihilates any current model WRX when it comes to speed and handling.
      I have a 2019 STi and the extra 40 hp coupled with the front and rear lsd and adjustable throttle mapping makes it a much quicker car than the current WRX by a considerable margin.
      My 19 is a full second and a half quicker to 60 (stock) and pulls much harder all the way through the gears.
      Don’t believe the numbers on paper either, raced a 2022 R32 uphill, it had the pull on me and I was in regular mapping and still passed it.
      There is literally no competition between any WRX and the STi version for the last 10 years.
      Also this reviewer isn’t familiar or comfortable enough at speed with the STi…….it can handle much more corner speed, the limited slip differentials only work on acceleration so you have to keep some throttle on through corners, especially over bumps and undulations, the second you lift off you lose that lock up and it will under steer on you.

    STIs of this gen are not bad cars, but they are not worth $40k. I still prefer the WRX of the same generation over the STIs, but even those are a bit pricey for what they are.

    I’m definitely getting one but it’s so far from a perfect car it’s not even funny. Rev hang, really not that quick, ergonomically too high up while sitting, steering isn’t very tight, but finding a manual awd sports vehicle is borderline impossible now so…

      Had a 2014 STi and now have a 2019 STi……difference is night and day.
      2019 drives like a hard core Audi A4. Steering is very precise but no longer twitchy and the engine has a lot more low end grunt so it feels quicker in the twisties and doesn’t need revving out.
