      I paid $600 for my 79 standard back in 1982 brand new, still love it. But I'd never pay $2-3K or more for a Les Paul today. Gibsons pricing is rediculous, and theres really nothing that special on an arist model that justifies the insane prices. They play a Les Paul and maybe changed the caps or a pickup or the tuners. Those parts are stock on a reproduction/copy, so it's not like those parts cost thousands more off the shelf. You could buy a used guitar and put those same parts in for thousands less.

    For that kind of money you could buy a real vintage guitar and have a better investment. This is 'baseball card' marketing. Gibson tries to con you that this is as desirable as a vintage guitar, which they can no longer make money from.

    Easy way to fake a seam line would probably be to use a stiff metal ruler (or something with a very straight, but not sharp edge, you’re trying to dent the finish, not cut into it) and gently tap it with a mallet.

    • @pulaski1
      @pulaski1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem with that is that the guitar top is bellied. In order to do it it right you'd need a steel strip (ruler) that had been pressed to match the curve of the guitar top at the point that you want to put the line, then run a razor blade along the top using the steel as a guide. ..... Though I am not sure why Gibson couldn't just do a poor quality three-piece top with visible seam lines. Surely Gibson would be capable of shoddy workmanship - or is that only possible when it _isn't_ wanted?

    I'm pretty sure the dents on top that you thought were from a bracelet are from a strap hitting it when it's put down. I have a Strat that has a bunch of dents in a line because my strap had a brass loop on it that hit the body when I put it down.

    I would argue not just the most-hyped, but maybe the most over-hyped. To each their own, I realize a lot of people love these for some reason, but I am definitely glad I do not like these silver-bursts. They're not bad looking guitars by any means, they just aren't worth the surcharge in my opinion. I think the Silver streak and all-gold finishes are the coolest finishes from that era. Ferrari red was also pretty sweet, just more on the boring side

    i cannot get along with a new looking silverburst. i just dont like the color combo whatsoever. but these aged greenish looking ones i totally dig. on a totally different note the pricing is astronomically insane. i am a huge Gibson fan, but cmon...10k right out the gate? hard pass.... this is why Fender is the "working mans" guitar. i personally own 1 single gibson guitar. would love another one. but the pricing just takes me forever to save up and i am not patient enough. i can get 2-3 custom shop fenders for this one adam jones les paul.and like i said im a big gibson fan but it almost never makes financial sense to me as im not an investor looking for a profit.

    I had an L6S in silverburst, and Adam saw it and wanted to buy it because it matched his Les Paul. He explained to me that they were originally silver that turned green over time. Anyway, he balked at my 700.00 price tag! That was a long time ago. Nobody had any dough back then.

    You've said in several videos that these were sold out before they were released. Some were actually available on release day direct from the Gibson website. I was on the Gibson website the day they were released, and I could see the aged and signed version available for about a half hour, and the VOS version was available for a couple of hours. Looking at the prices they are selling for already, I regret not getting one when I had the chance.

    I love your honest reviews and that you are not afraid to say your opinion. There are so many unpacking videos online but without any critical comments.
    If i would spend this amount of money I would expect an exact replica of a 79 custom in colour, weight etc. and a more realistic aging. The whole Hardware looks brand new.
    Love Adam Jones and TOOL but this is a bit disappointing. Can‘t wait for your closer review.
    Best,

    Guitar companies like Danelectro did those kinds of solid bursts on cheap guitars to cover crap wood and Formica back in the day. If I was spending that kind of money on a Lester, I would want a burst, or a finish that shows the grain.

    For the price of the VOS they could’ve included a signed COA. (I get that the other one was going to be more expensive and all of that stuff and maybe people wouldn’t pay for it since it was the only model with a signature. But I’m not talking about having the Guitar sign I’m just saying have the signature in the COA booklet.)
