    The repeated killing and cloning of Weyoun was a genius move from the writers.

      I have no doubt that Jeffery Combs absolutely loved the idea when it came up.
      "Oh, I can keep coming back? Excellent."

    • @LazyReptile23

      Ironic that killing characters is a way to get rid of the actor. In this case, they made it a plot point to bring him back. I also like how each “vintage” of Weyoun is a little different.

    • @christopherpericolosi-king4979
      @christopherpericolosi-king4979 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Jeffery Combs came up with that idea, pitched it to Braga, who then brought it up to the writers who all agreed that this was a genius move.

      @@LazyReptile23also Combs's idea. Also speaks to the Founders' inherent "superiority;" they couldn't perfect the cloning process....

    The thing about Weyoun is that he is extensively genetically modified and brainwashed to be completely loyal to the Founders' cause. The practical upshot of this is that he is, at all times, pretty much the only person around who is earnest and straightforward about everything.
    Which is not to say that he doesn't lie, and that he isn't often a catty bitch, because he does a fair bit of both. But it's rarely necessary for him, because most often his job is to try and convince people to find a peaceful resolution, and he is so absolutely certain that the Founders' desires are morally correct that he really DOES want that resolution.
    The trouble is that the Founders don't. If he had not had his ability to be annoyed by them surgically removed, he'd be the most frustrated and put-upon lackey ever. Instead, he does a fairly admirable job switching priorities on the fly when it turns out that what he earnestly believed in five minutes ago was actually a trick.
    The guy is a simple, pure, honest fellow, who happens to be on the Backbiting and Betrayal Show, working for the Backbiting and Betrayal Faction. No wonder he gets so tetchy when he can get away with it.

      The more power Weyoun gets though from being just in command of one Jem'Hadar platoon to basically the majordomo of the Dominion, he does get more incredibly brutal especially towards any Cardassian who remotely steps out of line.

    • @tompearce5418
      @tompearce5418 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on the history. The Star Trek Galaxy is depicted as a brutal and lawless place outside the boundaries of civilisations that have grown strong enough to enforce peace in their territory. The founding narrative of the Dominion is that the shapeshifters were victims of aggressive behaviour before they created an empire to impose order through military force. Weyoun and other Vorta may sincerely believe that the Dominion guarantees stability and peaceful coexistence for member species, based on their own history. The basis for conflict is that the Federation believes all member worlds have the right to parliamentary representation, whereas the Founders want their clients and genetically engineered servants firmly under control. The Vorta may be diplomatic negotiators but if they or the Founders lose patience then there's always the Jem'Hadar waiting to commit genocide.

    I bet the only reason that the Dominion had people read a profile about Sisko was that he had a Founder willingly answering to him and anyone THAT powerful had to be understood at all costs. Also he kind of had control over their only way in and out of the Alpha Quadrant so that also didn't help.

    Word is that when the last clone was killed, the genetic coding was sent through a transwarp that bypassed the laws of time and space. Weyoun was reborn with blue skin, antennae, and a strong dislike for pointy ears. Maybe because it was some strange remnant of his former self.
