These are my favorite times Garak roasts Dukat "She has much better taste than to be attracted to you. You, a married man." "You do have a lovely daughter. She must take after her mother."
The tragic thing is, I bet Garak spent the rest of his days after the end of the war tormenting himself on Cardassia as to why he didn't shoot Dukat when he had the chance.
There are a number of times where you can catch Garak actually being honest, moreso as the series concludes. His belly laugh the first time Bashir naively suggests that he and Dukat were friends is one such moment.
It would have been interesting for an episode to deal with a Ferengi convoy during the Dominion War. Ferengis knew how to fight. But when the dust settled, seeing Damons more concerned with the cargo they were protecting, and who gets what, and Sisko's reaction to it
All scenes are great, but the hallway scene is one of my all time favorites. Andrew Robinson played it perfectly with his facial expression. "I will try to keep that.. in mind" [looks left to right] 😃 4:06
Garak can see through all of Dukat's bullshit. That's the main reason he despises him. Garak's reason for hating him cuts a little deeper. Dukat represents all the worst, base aspects of Cardassian society. He's a reflection of all of the bad things about his homeworld, and he can't stand it.
gosh I'd had a similar idea and had started to make a similar compilation a long time ago and never finished it and this caught some references/moments I hadn't thought to include-so glad this exists!!
Of course they hate each other. Garak hates Dukat because he is a monster and Dukat hates Garak because he embodies everything he only pretends to be. First of all Garak is slightly smarter than Dukat but not as ruthless and therefore less successful. Garak is not above murdering people for what he believes is right but he is also willing to sacrifice his own life as seen when he tried to destroy the founders homeworld. Dukat only demands sacrifices from others but is not willing to lay down his own life. Garak accepts his own mistakes Dukat wants to be seen as a victim of circumstances. By all means Garak is not an innocent man. Maybe he isn't even a good man but he is worlds above Dukat!
it's some of the same elements as the Kira-Dukat thing. both Kira and Garak are people who are distantly aware they're ~ supposed ~ to feel bad for the various incredibly brutal things they've done, and have never felt bad about them for an instant. Dukat, meanwhile, has been told he should not feel bad for any of the brutal things he's done, feels bad anyway, and so drives himself to ever-increasing heights of villainy trying to shut the voice in the back of his head saying "you're a monster and you know it" up. at the end of the day, Garak looks at Dukat and sees someone too soft and egotistical to do his damn job, and Dukat looks at Garak and sees a weapon in someone else's hand.
Garak and Dukat are 2 ends on the spectrum. Garak is highly self-aware and in touch with reality, whereas Dukat is almost completely delusional both about himself and the world/galaxy around him. Garak made no secret of the grey nature of reality and his own complicity in it, while Dukat truly believes that he is on the side of the angels, and does everything to maintain that delusion, no matter how unscrupulous.
Dukat hated Garak because Garak’s father was at one time the head of the Obsidian Order and was the most feared person in the Cardassian Empire. So Garak was also untouchable until he disobeyed his father’s orders and was exiled to DS9 as punishment.
1:10 I love how Julian Bashir's actor says "I don't think he likes Gul Ducat very much," like he is embarrassed that the most his brain can come up with is that Garak is just that bitchy.
To this day, I still find it so fascinating how I can't determine if Gul Dukat genuinely cared for his daughter, or if he saw her as an extension of the only thing he really cared for as a genuine narcissist - himself, or if he simply enjoyed the idea of himself as a benevolent and kindly father. Garak is constantly deceiving with his charm and charisma. Gul Dukat is deceiving because he believes in the lies he tells more than anyone else.
Garak was always one of my absolute favorites in the series. His lines and character's charisma his vulnerabilities and issues with his father Tain. How he handles his emotions after the implant in his brain was deactivated. His love for his homeworld despite being an exile. All make him definitely one of my favorite characters next to Sisko, Kira,Odo and Quark,
Garak always claimed that Dukat wanted to kill him which led him to defect to Federation in the first place. Not only this was never proven beyond reasonable doubt, but also knowing Garak and his honesty that could very easily not be true at all.
Actually when the Dominion took over Cardassia Dukat as new leader would not only not allow Garak to return but also had the Jemhadar put him to death. He barely escaped
3:05......that slight nod Garak gives with such a malevolent grin. Dukat's threat doesn't scare him at all! I'd bet money on Garak coming out the survivor in any genuine clash between the two men - Garak would certainly deal with him in his own way haha!
Dukat was convinced that Garak was only using his daughter to get at him. I think he is right to a degree. Although Garak means her no harm there is a part of him that enjoys how much the relationship disturbs Dukat.
It's hinted at their hatred towards each in the book A Stitch in Time. Extremely recommended it and plus the audible book is voiced by the actor of Garak. 10 out of 10
ex Lovers? I do Love Garak and Bashir conversaitons it's like Bashir is in to TRAPS and Garak is in to Bashir it's a fun energy to watch but least YOU CAN SEE / FEEL it in DS9 new Star trek is so hollow after JJ rebooted it
Actually more like Dukat hates Garak because he seemingly got his father executed. It's unknown whether or not this is what got him banished from Cardassia Prime though as it seems the real reason is a combination of the ones he describes in "The Wire".
Wow, way to trip and break your neck at the finish line -- this was a great compilation and then you tried to stuff your damn holy book down our throats. Get out of me.
Ha ha someone's easily offended. It's their channel they can post a verse at the end if they want. They were just giving thanks to God who is the reason they exist. Even the Star Trek characters are respectful of people practicing their religion, I don't know why you can't be.
@bb73071 I get enough bullshit from the Yahweh cults shoved in my face in my day-to-day as it is. I don't need irrelevant bits of their propaganda stuck to secular entertainment.
These are my favorite times Garak roasts Dukat
"She has much better taste than to be attracted to you. You, a married man."
"You do have a lovely daughter. She must take after her mother."
"The man is a heartless, cold blooded killer."
"Like i said he's a Cardassian" 😅😂
Kira was savage 😂
And even though Dukat had a point, he was still projecting himself onto Garak!
Dukat's manipulation at play
Kira sees right through him.
The tragic thing is, I bet Garak spent the rest of his days after the end of the war tormenting himself on Cardassia as to why he didn't shoot Dukat when he had the chance.
Cardassia wouldn’t have truly reformed without the destruction caused by the Dominion.
If I remember right, I think he dwelled on it for a moment. But in garaks book he moved on.
@@BirbarianHomeGuardyeah but still 800 million people died
You should read Andy Robinson's book set in this time. Rebuilding Cardassia was a tragedy in slow motion.
@@kurtwinter4422 Why?
for being known as a huge liar, garak sure did spit a lot of truths
As he said: Truth is in the eye of the beholder. And everything he said is true, especially the lies.
a great spy knows how to mix the two
There are a number of times where you can catch Garak actually being honest, moreso as the series concludes. His belly laugh the first time Bashir naively suggests that he and Dukat were friends is one such moment.
garaks most cunning ability is that he can lie with the truth
The only reason for the truth is you lack the imagination to make up anything more interesting
These profound intra-species conflicts (along with that of Ferengi's) made DS9 my all time favorite
all part of the agenda
It would have been interesting for an episode to deal with a Ferengi convoy during the Dominion War. Ferengis knew how to fight. But when the dust settled, seeing Damons more concerned with the cargo they were protecting, and who gets what, and Sisko's reaction to it
All scenes are great, but the hallway scene is one of my all time favorites. Andrew Robinson played it perfectly with his facial expression. "I will try to keep that.. in mind" [looks left to right] 😃 4:06
Includes one of my favourite DS9 exchanges...
"You'd shoot a man in the back?"
"Well it's the safest way, isn't it?"
That was Worf right? Lol. These two should have had more scenes together. Worfs honor was a great counter to Garaks deviousness.
@@DeMan59 Odo actually.
Garak, Damar, and Dukat were that good. We should have gotten a spin off with just Dukat and Garak roasting each other.
Garak can see through all of Dukat's bullshit. That's the main reason he despises him. Garak's reason for hating him cuts a little deeper. Dukat represents all the worst, base aspects of Cardassian society. He's a reflection of all of the bad things about his homeworld, and he can't stand it.
also garak is a spy and the obsidian order i think basically hated everyone not a part of the order.
Hot-take: Dukat represents the greatest *flaws* of the Cardassian Union, not necessarily their worst aspects.
@williammorahan4907 i also think garak does as well but more the paranoid secretive order obsessed side of the cardassians.
There was some sort of issue with Dukat’s father.
@DeMan59 yes garak may or may not have had him tortured and executed.
Ah, Garak and Dukat….2 of the best Trek characters ever written.. brought to brlliant life by Andrew Robinson and Mark Alaimo
Man, I just can’t stop enjoying these two constantly bickering with each other, it’s like watching a good ol’ slapstick comedy
gosh I'd had a similar idea and had started to make a similar compilation a long time ago and never finished it and this caught some references/moments I hadn't thought to include-so glad this exists!!
"I don't think he likes Gul Dukat very much" understatement of the year.
Dukat: Make sure you're aiming it at a Klingon.
Garak: They're the ones with the ridges on their foreheads, right?
Wouldn't want to get them confused, would we.
I recently discovered Andrew Robinson wrote and narrated a DS9 audiobook
"You'd shoot a man in the back?"
"well it is the safest way, isn't it."
Of course they hate each other. Garak hates Dukat because he is a monster and Dukat hates Garak because he embodies everything he only pretends to be. Garak is quite possibly the most inteligent character in history of Star Trek. To me, rivaled only by Spock.
Dukat was more successful for a time. When Garak was in Tains good graces he was one of the most feared and formidable Cardassians in the empire.
Dukat hated Garak because Garak’s father was at one time the head of the Obsidian Order and was the most feared person in the Cardassian Empire. So Garak was also untouchable until he disobeyed his father’s orders and was exiled to DS9 as punishment.
3:50 This is the closest line we will EVER get to "Having trouble to keep up with the Cardassians?"
1:10 I love how Julian Bashir's actor says "I don't think he likes Gul Ducat very much," like he is embarrassed that the most his brain can come up with is that Garak is just that bitchy.
[Julian ] - Even when you are friends ?
[Garak] Especially when we are friends !
Bashir: "He never mentioned that you (Garak) were friends."
Garak: "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"

1:46 that smile tho 😅
@6:15 Kira proves she is a good friend.
Well, Garak did torture and execute Dukat's father. But that's in the past. They're good friends now.
I don’t know why I smile at these characters, but I really love the show
4:42 This is such a genius Star Wars reference xD
How uncivilized
"an amiable fellow if ever there was one"
Oh Dukat, that must've been painful to say.
2:47 and 3:27
Dukat: I should have left you on that street corner where you were standing
Garak: But you didn't!
Garak is one Cardassian you DONT want to upset!
It is good to see Dukat standing up for Garak's rights and praising his disgraced countryman. Everyone should have a friend like Dukat.
3:05......that slight nod Garak gives with such a malevolent grin. Dukat's threat doesn't scare him at all! I'd bet money on Garak coming out the survivor in any genuine clash between the two men - Garak would certainly deal with him in his own way haha!
First time I've seen a Stark Trek clips compilations with a Bible verse at the end of it...
I always thought it was weird that the leader of the Obsidian Order had a hard time recalling the name of the former administrator of occupied Bajor.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
I see what you did there.
And yet they helped each other when the Klingons attacked the station.
The Cardassian Tailor's exam must be deadly.
Those two were the reason I started watching DS9 to begin with, no lie.
Dukat was convinced that Garak was only using his daughter to get at him. I think he is right to a degree. Although Garak means her no harm there is a part of him that enjoys how much the relationship disturbs Dukat.
The Line ,and who is the leader of the Cardashian government, Galaxy Dakat, I LOST IT
Great video compilation. And I especially liked your ending message. He is the Way and the Life.
To be fair to Dukat here, I also wouldn't be keen of my father's torturer, especially if he is dating my daughter 😂
Indeed. Bad enough he tortures your parent, now he tries to violate your child? Unacceptable.
Theyre such perfect foils
What was up with the ‘message’ towards the end?
And the rest of us love them both.
can you imagine what dukats pah wraith bosses will do to him for eternity? I would say, compared to him... Garak got off lucky.
i like that vorta he was as slimy as the rest of them.
To be fair, the only person who didn't hate Dukat was his daughter. And occassionally Dumar. Occasionally.
I am an unapologetic Cardassian sympathizer
They did nothing wrong
The people, their military government, the culture, or one of these individuals?
Second to none @@OuterRimPride
People are also nazi-sympathizers, so I guess you've got something in common
Why?!??! BECAUSE THEY WERE CLEAN
Garak’s family wrong Dukat’s family and Dukat been hold a grudge against Garak ever since
Last part is best
I hate when people say they don't believe truth exits, it's like, is that a true statement or isn't it?
It is a nonsensical contradiction.
Since we don't know Garak's story, we have don't know what his story with Dukat is.
It's hinted at their hatred towards each in the book A Stitch in Time. Extremely recommended it and plus the audible book is voiced by the actor of Garak. 10 out of 10

They do.
They're different characters?
I made that mistake once myself.
Long ago……
Miss me with your bible quote at the end of the video.
So dukat hates garak as he tortured his father?
Actually more like Dukat hates Garak because he seemingly got his father executed. It's unknown whether or not this is what got him banished from Cardassia Prime though as it seems the real reason is a combination of the ones he describes in "The Wire".
They were probably lovers 😜😜😜
I swear that with Garak and Gul Dukat, DS9 >> GOT
I dont know why people are so down about Dukat .... he didnt do anything wrong after all . :)
Yes he did, he's a great character but he's evil.
Ah hell. You were doing so well until you decided to proselytize at the end. What a shame.
