Amazing! I really like it that you are able to connect and explain bits and pieces that makes the story. Now I know the back story of Pokemon's Gyarados.
Even if we never see Luffy's mom in the story, I think there's still a decent chance we will get some information about her when we get around to learning more about Dragon.
@@siyabongamkhize692 it seems like we're not. Cuz it really seems that Oda has always meant to reveal luffy's mom once we get to know Dragon's story. You think Oda won't show us Dragon's story when he finally does something? And by showing Dragon's story you think he won't finally reveal details about luffy's mom?
I always thought that Oda intended to reveal luffy's mom once we know more about Dragon, and that will be near the end of the story. If his mom was unimportant then I think Oda would've revealed at least her name in an Sbs already like how he did with zoro's parents. And considering how it seems Dragon is the only character that could tell us something about luffy's mom, she's either someone very secretive that no one knows besides Dragon or she's just a random unimportant woman. There's even a pattern when it comes to the names of the monster trio's mothers sanji's being Sora (sky), Zoro's being Terra (earth). Oda isn't choosing these names unintentionally. And he left luffy's mom's name for last for a reason.
@@greendecepticon6148 Oda wouldn't be so secretive about it and try to change subject for no reason. He does the same thing when fans ask him about zoro's left eye. Sometimes he says cuz he just wanted to make zoro be one eyed for a while and that will make him look cooler and some other times he prefers to dodge the question and not reveal much.
Regarding Luffy's mom, while Oda likes to dodge the question, and there's a recurring theme of "found family" in One Piece, I highly doubt Luffy's mom will remain a mystery indefinitely. Given how much attention Oda has put on Luffy's dad and grandpa, I believe Luffy's mom will play a pivotal role in Dragon's backstory, and it's a story he won't just reveal in an SBS or something like that (although, even that would be better than nothing). My personal theory is Luffy's mom was either a Celestial Dragon with different ideals from her peers, like Mjosgard after meeting Otohime. She fell in love with Dragon, gave him a son, and was killed by St. Figarland Garling for "herecy" or "intermingling with lowborns". This could easily have fuelled Dragon's hatred towards the Celelstial Dragons. Or, Luffy's mom was an average woman who was kidnapped by the Celestial Dragons, while baby Luffy was in his father's care. Dragon wanted to save his wife, but the Navy forbade him. It's basically the Ginny scenario, except the ultimate fate of Luffy's mom remains unknown. This would be enough for any marine to defect. Either way, Luffy's mom is dead. At the very least, I want something that debunks the "Crocomom"- theory. It just doesn't feel right.
@@stormstrider1990 who knows maybe imu is luffy's mom after all luffy was called "the son of the devil" LOL and imu does give feminine vibes At least it seems that luffy's mother is someone so secretive that it seems Dragon is the only one that knows who she is
@@stormstrider1990 Dragon seems to have already hated celestial dragons before luffy was born. Which makes me think that maybe Dragon's mother was a celestial dragon and she was executed
Garp also called Dragon his son when Dragon became a revolutionary and he complained about it to Kuzan (although I suppose it could still be as a son-in-law)
My reasoning why Dragon left the government and the conversation with Kuma about "children are a parents weakness" probably is because Luffy's mother was killed by either the marines or celestial dragons while protecting a baby Luffy. Being a celestial dragon herself would work too, to have Garp atone for having the 'D' in his name, he was sent to marry off his son to a celestial dragon to show his loyalty, since they didnt want to kill the hero of the marines outright because he could be useful to them.
I still kind of hope that we find out that Dragon is Garp's son-in-law but that's mostly due to the idea (gag) of Luffy's mom being just like Garp. Who else would leave their kid with Garp to train? Also, this is purely speculation, but I can see Vice Admiral Doll being related to the Monkey family (Monkey D. Oll). She looks a lot like female Luffy. Maybe she's the girl in the flashback panel.
Great video ❤ The line that dragon says about "children being a parent's weakness" could make a lot of sense if you see Dragon as Garp's son in law and something terrible happened to Luffy's mother.
Luffy is the Sun God, and in many mythologies the sun God is the son of the Earth Goddess. And we know that there's an Earth God. So maybe this is a hint
@radaro.9682 yeah that's exactly what I meant Oda is very secretive when it comes to things that he's trying to hide. He also said "I think maybe she's alive". If luffy's mom was truly unimportant in the grand scheme of things don't you think that he probably would've at least told us her name in an SBS like how he did with zoro's entire family tree? Or fully revealed her like how he did with so many unimportant characters?? When it comes to luffy's mom Oda tries to dodge the question, he also does that with zoro's left eye sometimes he says he simply wanted zoro to be one eyed, while some other times he dodges the question
@sangasp2286 no, I don't think he would have. Sorry. I tend to take words people say at face value when there is no cost to being wrong. Narratively Oda has done little with mothers. A few, like Olivia and Ginny. But overall it would fit previous narrative trends set in this work.
I hope Smoker becomes more relevant and a threat again. I had the thought he would be to Luffy like what Garp was to Roger. That idea went up in a puff of smoke after Punk Hazard and even pre time skip it was already very unlikely. Clearly that's now going to be Koby.

26:37 ah only Akainu had his lines where he refered to Dragon. As if he knows him and Luffy and holds a grudge. There is probably a dark secret between them.
@@Stelphy876 or maybe he just simply found it out through Garp. He obviously knew Dragon was Garp's son and since Garp always talked about his grandson wanting to become a pirate and when he saw his full name he instantly figured that luffy was Dragon's son

what a lovely thing to wake up to in the morning. I was actually thinking about smoker and tashigi today. Smoker i feel will always be a marine, he seems like akainu in that he really wants to just catch all the pirates. Tashigi I think will change sides, mainly because of what smoker said to her in alabasta "follow your own sense of justice." or something like that. And smokers eye scar is on his right, not his left XD
if oda sensei thought of bringing the change within the world by characters named dragon in different languages that would be insanes but not impossible. great video.
A serpentine dragon would also fit Quetzalcōātl, the "Feathered Serpent" of Aztec mythology. This last long been a theory about Monkey D. Dragon in the West, since this very first appearance! That's because Quetzy is the Lord of the Winds. He is also related to the Sun (Luffy) and Knowledge and Learning (Ohara). Mythical Zoan Hebi Hebi Fruit, Model Quetzalcoatl?
I'm part Romanian. Dracul is Romanian for dragon (Dracula means son of the dragon). It's also a dynasty, the Draculasti. One of their later kings, a great great grandson of the original Dracul and grand nephew of Dracula, was named Mihael, pronounced weirdly similar to Mihawk. I've always wondered if thst will mean something. Vlad I Dracul was knighted by the Pope and a member of the Order of the Dragon, knights sworn to fight the Turks.
Hello from France, 31:54 Some time ago, I made this call : "Smoker will somehow foil SWORD’s plans or alternatively take its head one day." Because he’s got the plume-plume fruit. The pen is mightier than the sword (In French : la plume est plus puissante que l’épée) So it's really interesting to see that there are other ties to SWORD for him. And about the word SWORD, could it be that those 'swore' to the 'D' ? 10:19 The first pirate to abandon his name and die that comes to mind is Ace. (Who went from Gol D to Portugas D). 10:30 The explanation for the meaning of Snatch/Sunatchi seems really convoluted. How possible do you think it is, that there is one more meaning to it ? For the moment I think it could be a contraction of "Sun no hachi" or something sounding like it. In French, we have bad words, swearwords coming from religious themes, modified to avoid blaspheming. "palsambleu" instead of "par le sang de Dieu" , "sacrebleu" instead of "par le sacre de Dieu", "corbleu", "pour le coeur de Dieu"... and so many others. So I'm thinking of something like it. Do you have similar swears or kiai inducing words in Japanese? Thank you for sharing your insights, as always.
I think Dragon not looking like Garp means that he just ended up expressing more of his mom’s genes. He’ll still carry Garp’s genes though. And Luffy may have expressed Garp’s genes due to his upbringing. There’s emerging studies of epigenetics where the environment you live in (and what you put yourself through) also affects your genetic expression. So maybe Garp spent a lot of time training in the wild as child, and didn’t raise Dragon the same way; Dragon defects from the Navy, and Garp sees that raising him differently led Deagon on a different path (and genetic expression) so he ends up leaving Luffy to fend for himself in the wild, making him express Garp’s genes but Luffy meeting Shanks influences him to be a pirate. That’s my head canon
24:00 I've been curious about this line: is it definitely implying that Dragon was the one who told Garp about it directly? Or could it be that someone else told Garp that they had seen Dragon seeing Luffy off in Loguetown?
What if the monkey family WERE one of the families that helped destroy the ancient kingdom during the void century BUT joyboy is part of the monkey family and he rebelled against his own family and others for freedom 🤔
If this actually comes true, I will hate it. I don't want any blood relationship between joyboy. There are already 19 families which stay on marijoa and only nefatari family rebelled. So your theory seems unlikely.
I actually think that's the case. The alliance with the 20 kingdoms started as a rebellion against the great kingdom, but they devided when the 20 kingdoms wanted to replace the lunarians as the leaders of the world, while joyboys' allies wanted to rebuild the world.
@@bleep0004maybe joyboy was actually a Nerona himself, and it were the Neronas that ruled over the ancient kingdom. And maybe the Neronas and the Monkeys are actually the same family, it's just that some changed their name to Monkey and hid in Skypiea
Regarding Dragon's appearance being so different, I've wondered if one's will or ambition dictates one's appearance in One Piece rather than genetic or familial lineage. I mention this because Nami looks like her adopted mother despite being unrelated. Same with Luffy looking like how Shanks looked in the earliest chapters of the series. I'm sure it isn't a strict rule, but it's just something I've observed. Another point of interest is Denjiro changing his physical appearance. It could be said that his will changed due to the death of Oden. Assuming my hypothesis is correct it begs the question of whose will did Dragon inherit? The only person I recall who looks anything like him is interestingly Nefertari Cobra.
"Drake" is a word for/associated with dragons in a lot of the west and english. I dont know the nuances or details but it refers to dragons or at least a type of wingless western dragon.
Great, now I'm starting to wonder if Drake's real name is actually Rake, borrowing from the old timey English word, which is more akin to "someone lacking restraint," though often used for promiscuity, but came from the term "rakehell," which translates somewhat to "hell raiser," commonly an insult used towards the rebellious. Edit: Doubtful that Oda used music for inspiration as Araki has for Jojo's but, the term was brought back to the populace by the Pogues' song, "Rake at the Gates of Hell," though I have found other media keeping the word alive through reference of that song name (for myself, the comic series of DC, "Hellblazer," with one of the comic's arcs bearing that title, specifically during a period where the main character defies his history and makes fools of the three leaders (in DC comics, at the time, for the run of John Constantine comics,) of Hell who have each put a claim upon the primary character's soul.)
I see it like this: Garp has a daughter, which is Luffy's mother. Dragon was probably a son of celestial dragon or closely assiocated with them... It could even be that Dragon is a son of Imu. When God Valley incident happened, Garp could have impacted young Dragon someway, Dragon wanted to be Garp's apprentice, Dragon fell in love with Garp's daughter, they married, got luffy, Celestial dragons kidnapped ''luffy'' baby and her mother which resulted for Garp to hate celestials. Dragon and Garp probably had to choose between their daughter and wife, or luffy, and they chose Luffy causing the mother to die.
@@suomipoika1796 Garp referred to Dragon as "my son", they have the same surname, Dragon himself said that he was born in the Goa kingdom. And Dragon was in the Marines. He's Garp's son

DUSK AND DAWN, could you confirm. That robin and saul was the two person finally meeting this year as per ODA on last jump festa? Please answer who is that character and that character?
Luff's mom is robin's mom. Dragon visited Ohara to visit her and that's why dragon cares so much for Robin as well. Dragon is 55. And Ohara happened 20 years ago, so he was 35 and robin's mom was 33 at that time. I strongly believe Dragon is Robin's father.
you think the body of a dragon could be a national treasure Doflamingo was talking about? I.e. body-swapped someone occupying a dragon's body sitting on an empty throne. And you collect tribute cause dragons sleep on their gold.
I don't think Oda does things just for the convenience of the plot, which is why Law showing up to Marineford doesn't make sense. I think he was given orders by Sengoku on behalf of Garp as a member of sword to rescue Luffy/Ace once they escaped. His name is Water Law after all.

At best I think luffys mom will be similar to his brother ace's mom. A regular woman with a small role.
It would be very ironic if Luffy's mum was named after the sea
Considering his whole devil fruit situation
@@stormstrider1990 who knows maybe imu is luffy's mom after all luffy was called "the son of the devil" LOL and imu does give feminine vibes
At least it seems that luffy's mother is someone so secretive that it seems Dragon is the only one that knows who she is
@@stormstrider1990 Dragon seems to have already hated celestial dragons before luffy was born.
Having a D in marine is normal. remember Saul D Jaguar and Con D Reiano 😂
Dragon does look like a edgy verson of garp and luffy. Luffys mom not never be revealed.
It’s possible Luffy’s life was used against his mom. And that’s why Dragon says a child is a parents weakness
@@KillerBlaze I think Dragon was talking about himself
Luffy's attack "Bajrang Gun" contains the word "Bajrang" which is another name for the Monkey God Hanuman
Great video ❤
The line that dragon says about "children being a parent's weakness" could make a lot of sense if you see Dragon as Garp's son in law and something terrible happened to Luffy's mother.
The faster space is much appreciated, thx.
Drake is the name of a famos sailor who worked for Queen Victoria. His duty/agreement was to raid and sink ships belonging to Spains marine.

I’m glad you noticed! I tried incorporating those small details into the video :)
Your goal is to make this a place where “knowledge from around the world comes together.” I see you’re carrying on the legacy of Ohara. Great work!!!
And here I was, thinking I'd catch something tantalizing about the ladies of the Monkey family.
When buggy found out dragon was luffys dad he concluded that Raleigh is luffys uncle.
Luffy is the Sun God, and in many mythologies the sun God is the son of the Earth Goddess. And we know that there's an Earth God. So maybe this is a hint
Not enough to have a straight to camera "she isn't important" statement from Oda? He's usually coy about stuff he's hiding.
@radaro.9682 Oda has said lots of thing that turned out that it weren't true. Remember luffy's devil fruit?
@@radaro.9682 what could possibly be the reason for him to not reveal luffy's mom's name even in an Sbs according to you?
I hope Smoker becomes more relevant and a threat again. I had the thought he would be to Luffy like what Garp was to Roger. That idea went up in a puff of smoke after Punk Hazard and even pre time skip it was already very unlikely.
Clearly that's now going to be Koby.
I hope so but I think it’s unlikely.

Oda is so smart that it's scary.
I believe that Dragon was once a member of the Naval internal affairs division and became disillusioned with the officers and quit the marines
26:37 ah only Akainu had his lines where he refered to Dragon. As if he knows him and Luffy and holds a grudge. There is probably a dark secret between them.
@@Stelphy876 it could be that Akainu worked under Dragon while he was a marine or they were partners. And they had a talk after luffy was born.

Me too!
The youtube algorithm hid this video! luckily i visit this channel frequently. Cannot wait until Dragon makes his official "oda box" debut and his backstory is revealed.
what a lovely thing to wake up to in the morning.
Hello from France,
31:54 Some time ago, I made this call : "Smoker will somehow foil SWORD’s plans or alternatively take its head one day."
Because he’s got the plume-plume fruit.
The pen is mightier than the sword (In French : la plume est plus puissante que l’épée)
So it's really interesting to see that there are other ties to SWORD for him.
Ooh, Dragon being the SWORD founder is interesting… 😮
Aaand.. The last shot of the "3 dragons". They're also one of each devil fruit type. A zoan. A logia. And a suspected paramecia
And, luffy not being able to not punch when he has a sword shows more contrast to Dragon. Luffy is the smile to Dragons scowl.
@SergioCalafato I don't get why Monkeys need to be important in void century ? Get better theories.
Great video. I’d love for you to solve the mystery if Shimotsuki Kuina could still be alive👀👀
I actually saw a theory, that Dragon is Luffy's dad, but not Garp's son. Instead Dragon is Sebek's offspring, and Garp had a daughter.
Edit: Doubtful that Oda used music for inspiration as Araki has for Jojo's but, the term was brought back to the populace by the Pogues' song, "Rake at the Gates of Hell," though I have found other media keeping the word alive through reference of that song name (for myself, the comic series of DC, "Hellblazer," with one of the comic's arcs bearing that title, specifically during a period where the main character defies his history and makes fools of the three leaders (in DC comics, at the time, for the run of John Constantine comics,) of Hell who have each put a claim upon the primary character's soul.)
i feel like sword is a counter to cp0 which are known as aegis
In one of the FLashbacks Garp says explicit to Kuzan that his Son is a revolutonary so we can asume that Dragon is his biological son
if you check the logo of RA MARine Kong beard is inckuded in RA Logo

I don't think Oda does things just for the convenience of the plot, which is why Law showing up to Marineford doesn't make sense. I think he was given orders by Sengoku on behalf of Garp as a member of sword to rescue Luffy/Ace once they escaped. His name is Water Law after all.
