This is when Toyota was at their peak. Build quality. Reliability. Ingenuity. Nothing they've been able to do since has been as impactful or memorable.
To be fair, they still make great vehicles. My family and I keep ours for 200-300k miles and rarely is there much of an issue. I agree with you though, 90’s was the best reliability wise. Hell, maybe the middle to late 80’s even (minus the rust). Give me a 1989 Camry in a desert climate and they last 1/2 million miles Easy
In every generation, the Toyota Crown was always the pinnacle of luxury. As a kid, less than ten years old, I remember my nextdoor neighbour, who was a successful optometrist, had a Toyota Crown (this was about 1965). His wife drove a VW Beetle. The Toyota Crown, even back then, was a luxury vehicle.
Zack, you must go to Japan. I was just over there and carspotting the JDM stuff we didn't get was so much fun. Crowns are everywhere. I love big comfy cruisers and I could see myself importing a Crown. Cloth seats are truly the luxury option because they're comfortable in any weather and don't require much maintenance.
I don't think the Crown Majesta ever got a manual. The manual was likely in the Comfort sedan or one of the base model carryovers from the previous generation of normal Crown.
This is a car that Toyota should have offered here in the United States. This is the Buick LeSabre of Japan. I would have loved to sit in this car and feel so comfortable.
Zack, totally forgot to mention the reading lights and ceiling air vents above the doors (which is an unusual feature for cars) for your backseat review.
Wow! I knew about the Crown, but the 80s versions I've seen are not that big. This is huge! It's a Japanese landyacht. Love it! It's like a 90s Cadillac or S500. The heads up display was in neither of them back then. This would have been a contender to the S, but back then Toyota wasn't known for luxury cars, at least outside of Japan, and Lexus was marketed as its own separate brand. Awesome review, thanks Zack!
On the subject of Japanese import sedans...I'd love to see you review a Nissan C35 Laurel. I own one (not in the US though) and I absolutely love mine to bits.
Are the seats cloth or wool? I know Toyota used wool for some Japanese-market luxury cars, and it's considered a preferred luxury option over leather there.
Love these cars, my dream import car would be a Toyota Altezza. Did we essentially get it in the Lexus format? Yes. Does the Toyota seem cooler though? Also yes
Some of these Majesta's had wool interior to dampen the noise even further, Here in Texas the tinted windows are a nice touch, & practical otherwise the wool seats would fall apart in the hot summer months, And also the tinted windows adds that "Ex-Yakuza" car feel, just be sure to get a Majesta that hasn't been a smokers car! otherwise the interior stinks and is more likely burned with cigarettes marks on the seats. This Majesta was not equipped with these options but the rear seat center console can have a reclining electric seat function with RARE rear heated seat options aswell, kind of mimics the Toyota Century's.
I only saw the moving vents in the Crown (didn´t know the Majesta had it too but makes sense). Not on other models and makes. Ah the time of nice door cards... Unlike today!
I purchased a 1995 Crown 1js151 with 1jz-GE 2.5 with only 75k on it , it reminds me of Lexus LS400 as I worked for Lexus back in the 90’s here in Australia, so buying a Crown was on my wish list .
1:22 focus your eyes on car edges and background and start singing: Why's this dealer taking the piss? I've been standing here for thirty mins Why's this dealer taking the piss? I've been standing here, I need my things
It looks like a LS 400 from 95 in the front. They recently got rid of the Avalon and replaced it with the Crown, I really liked the Avalon and the new Crown just isn't doing it for me
They move it forward and backward so the rear passenger, most likely getting driven around, can adjust their legroom. I first used them in the Hyundai Equus at a car show.
If l had a choice of a Toyota Crown or a Century l would take the Crown mainly because of the 6 cylinder engine the Century has a V12 to thirsty and were l live in Australia l have seen a couple of these driving around not the Majesta and how nice is this Crown
Thank you for the review. Thank you for sharing this JDM Toyota model. I like the fact it has digital gauges. It is interesting to think Lexus was around at that time. This car is on par with a Lexus. The one thing I did note that the JDM models offered digital gauges where the cars they imported to the United States did not. I have seen a Lexus SC 300 or SC 4000 know as Toyota Soarer in Japan with a cloth interior and digital gauges. Thank you for sharing that. Here are a few videos: th-cam.com/video/2SyB5I0-GAM/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/Nw4dkvzkLzo/w-d-xo.html They sell a Toyota Crown in the United States in 2024: th-cam.com/video/MCtuGW3uoQ0/w-d-xo.html Thank you again.

Easy
And there was also their arch rival, Nissan President.
“Nothing they’ve been able to do since” *LFA enters chat*
Looks like a Camry and a Cadillac DeVille had a baby.
That was no accident. Cadillacs were the peak of luxury and incredibly expensive to import into Japan.
But it’s better quality and doesn’t have that garbage Northstar
90s toyota luxury sedans are next level of awesomeness
Don't forget the 80s. I have a 81 and a 86 Crown Super Saloons both are tanks and still rocking the road unrestored!

Zack, It is only appropriate that a young prince of an auto reviewer like your self bring us the Crown Majesty . 👑👑
I don't think the Crown Majesta ever got a manual. The manual was likely in the Comfort sedan or one of the base model carryovers from the previous generation of normal Crown.

This car is actually more Lexus LS competitor, you could even get 4.0 V8 in this vehicle too. Toyota crown one of the best sedans ^ ^

It's not as big as a Cadillac or S500. Just 2 percent longer than a 90s gen 3 or 4 camry, 193" long.
Not surprising....this has a lot of Lexus LS400 about it
The two-tone paint really works.
On the subject of Japanese import sedans...I'd love to see you review a Nissan C35 Laurel. I own one (not in the US though) and I absolutely love mine to bits.
Laurels are so underrated the sleeper sedan with an rb under the hood
Don’t be fooled, the current “Crown” being sold here in the US is not the evolution of this, it’s just a new name for the Avalon.
The evolution of this car is the Current Lexus ES series.
@@Foxonian if only the grilles weren’t so ugly.
Also GS not ES. ES is the FWD format. Basically also the Avalon.
A Limousine version of the latest Crown is sold only in Japan, which is definitely the evolution of this car
Amazing luxurious 90s RWD toyota 🔥🔥🔥😩😩😩
Side profile on front looks like the big Lexus flagship and Lexus ES 300 tone paint vibes
I agree that less is more. Good timeless quality, even though simple, is incredibly satisfying.
Man im so happy for you
those buttons on the back are amazing, it's like Lexus LS 430 President
This is Why toyota Crown is the Best Luxury Sedan in the 90s
Are the seats cloth or wool? I know Toyota used wool for some Japanese-market luxury cars, and it's considered a preferred luxury option over leather there.
Man you drive everything 😀😀👍👍
Love these cars, my dream import car would be a Toyota Altezza. Did we essentially get it in the Lexus format? Yes. Does the Toyota seem cooler though? Also yes
Wouldn't it be easier to just swap the badge?
@@My_Old_YT_Accountthat’s not the point. The Altezza has a completely different engine.
Thank you for this great video! I knew of the Toyota Century, but not this one. Very nice car!

A mix of GS300/ Aristo + LS400

Great video, cool to see
I love these Crown Majesta but, I would rather one with a 1UZ instead of this straight 6

Why's this dealer taking the piss?
I've been standing here, I need my things
I have the 2010 and last V8 and I can say its awesome pure pure except the infotainment is in Japanese
What a GEM, Thank you for sharing the story of this car.
If there’s anyone I can trust to upload daily it’s you
It looks like a LS 400 from 95 in the front. They recently got rid of the Avalon and replaced it with the Crown, I really liked the Avalon and the new Crown just isn't doing it for me
The king!
Simply luxurious!
What were those buttons on the upper part of the front seats?
They move it forward and backward so the rear passenger, most likely getting driven around, can adjust their legroom.
I first used them in the Hyundai Equus at a car show.
They're for the rear passenger to move the seat forward and backward so they'll have more legroom.
Wool seats
Hey man remember when you reviewed my car?
I believe this car and the Lexus ES 450 both share the same platform and were built side by side in Japan back then.
ES 450? That was never a thing. And ES’s shared their platform with the Camry and later the Avalon
the majestas specifically share a lot of parts with the first gen gs300
What were those buttons on the side to the passenger seat, towards the top?
I buy a toyota crown 2005 royal saloon ..... Pure classs
No cupholders anywhere 😮
That head unit is japanese it's a Panasonic Strada it also has Blu Ray playback.
i know that to me my car is therapy, its my happy place
Is it really cloth, or is it wool? I know the Century used wool, not sure about the Crown.
Nice 😊
Better than Town Car/Fleetwood😎

06:33 BIG FRIGGIN BOTTLE FAIL!!!
1995-...... this is japanese economic bubble peak engineering, we will never see something like this again
90s Lexus LS with a straight six?
Looks like the 1st generation LS
🔥🔥🔥
This car is called Crown Majesta, not Crown Majesty......
So cool
nice car be nice to get AWD😊

It's not a Majesta it's a Majestey eeeee
It’s a majesta if you live in missoura I guess 🤷♂️
It literally says Crown Majesta at the back of the car.
Headlights are like copy of W140
I love the 140 but all Toyota’s looked like that back in the 90s
did he notice the leak under the car?
it is water from AC
