What amazes me the most in the Toyota Century is the fact that every single TH-cam review of it turns the reviewer into a kid. It has the effect of bringing grown-ups into the sincere joy of touching and feeling every bit and piece of a car like we did as 5-year olds. The amazement of each reviewer when turning lights, pressing buttons touching the upholstery shows it is a really special car. Congrats on the video!
Proud 97’ Century owner as well down in Miami, such a legendary car to be able to own and drive. Great video Zak, that Century is immaculate, shot on such a nice day too!
This is a luxury beast, better than an S Class. Better than a Rolls. I love the curtains in the back. A true living room or office for heads of state and company executives. Thanks Zack.
The Car Care Nut reviewed a Toyota Century on his channel. This car was made in Japan for executives. It also happens to be another Toyota that begins with the letter C
Some of those 3 speed w/ overdrive transmissions performed quite well in the 1990's, and had a tendency to last the lifetime of the car. Fewer gears = fewer parts and less of a chance something screws up and leaves ya stranded.
It's a shame that this Toyota Century was never offered in the United States as a Lexus. It certainly would have been the most luxurious car that Toyota ever offered here.
Most Americans probably wouldn't put it in too much of a high regard since it'd be less powerful than other luxury cars of the time despite it's more luxurious state. History showed that Americans always wants more power first before anything else except for really rare exceptions (Mazda MX-5 and, briefly, Suzuki Jimny/Samurai)
11:27 the trunk open gap is still less than a closed panel of a POS Tesla or Stellantis product, especially the new announced charger/challengers which literally have a prominent gap in one of the pictures that i think the manufacturer shared.
Not sure that mic is for karaoke - I thought it was a dictaphone input, so the super serious executive Japanese gentleman could dictate to tape/minidisc.
I’m 1000000% sure it’s for karaoke as It plays the sound over the speakers and I’ve read the Japanese manual and it states it’s for video karaoke CDs. :)
@@ghzhammer nice info! That's crazy to me that it's a car designed for the distinguished board member, but they have their fun relief either side of their 14 hour day.

I will own a Century. These are some of my favorite Japanese cars. I love these cost no object, just build the best car cars. I loved seeing Centuries on the road in Japan and wondering who was inside. They're subtle but they have presence. Cloth is the true luxury option. Not burning hot in the summer, not freezing cold in the winter, doesn't require regular conditioning, quiet, and breathable. I don't understand why leather is the luxury seat material.

I've thought for years car companies should offer or have 2 fuel pumps for all of their cars. It sucks when a fuel pump goes out and they will go bad. So having a secondary fuel pump would be cool.. That is naturally if people kept both fuel pumps operating instead of being cheap and just the 1. Which is probably what 90% of the people would do. Never mind. lol Interesting and unique car, but a little strange and overdone too. I mean those seat look like something from the Renaissance Period. And not in a good way. I guess the car screams and I'm rich and I'm old. Not necessarily in that order.
Yeah, but I seriously doubt the guy at the Toyota parts counter is going to be able to order Japanese parts, much less finding a tech that can even work on them.
@ there are a few sites you can order from Japan directly and they take 2 weeks or so to get tho most of the consumables breaks rotors oil filter bushing etc are all ls400/430 based so not a big deal if you know when to get as well.
@@alphakky Theres jdm shops near everyone and literally nearly 100% of parts of available for this car straight from Japan and will continue that way for decades. The Century is Toyotas pride and joy, they will support it forever. Most other manufactures start discontinuing parts at the 10 year mark, this gen 2 century is going on 28 years old..
I would just be concerned on having a competent mechanic work on my 1GZ-FE, rather than someone who works on fart can Civics. Like an actual mechanic from Japan who is certified on Centurys.
Thanks for the video Zack! This must be one of the only cars in the world with a player for full size VHS tapes in it! I'm surprised it's not Sony's Video8 format like used on a lot of airliners (or at least VHS-C), but I guess Toyota is tied up with Panasonic and not Sony.
That's wild. I never would think Toyota or any car manufacturer would have made a car like that especially in the 90's. I saw a limo version on trader online
if i win the lottery, im gonna spend top dollar one one of these and get it completely serviced at the best import mechanic i can find. then ill go on a road trip all across the us with my buddies, no expense spared.
Not factory-installed, and I’d guess someone else will have a more recent example, but my dad had a Blaupunkt portable radio, AM/FM/SW (all mono) which he bought in the late ‘60s or around 1970. They made a slide-in bracket so you could install it under-dash in a car, which he did a few years later with his ‘74 AMC Hornet. Much bigger than a normal car radio.
