    I can't wait to get my editing studio together, right now I'm editing on top of one of those TV dinner tables with a bulletin board on top...that's it, it's a nice setup for now but an upgrade is definitely in the near future!

    • @HollywoodEditingMentor

      I had a similar setup initially, but the upgrade was worth it.

    Thanks for sharing your setup. I love your straightforward approach. No hype - just what works.

      Totally! In the end, it’s about the story. Thanks for watching!

    What do you use for storage at home? Do you use a RAID or NAS? How do you backup and archive?

    • @HollywoodEditingMentor
      @HollywoodEditingMentor  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My main storage/working drive is an 8 TB RAID. But I also have a bunch of other hard drives of different sizes for backup/archive. I also have a 2 TB external SSD for my Mac Mini.

    • @BrianMarcWhittaker
      @BrianMarcWhittaker 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@HollywoodEditingMentor that’s great. And that’s ample space for RAID 5? I’m working on short form content for social and TH-cam right now, but I do the occasional documentary short.

    Nice set up, good speakers and I love rode mics too. Gotta look into that keyboard. I would add nudge volume up and down

    Do you have a "client monitor" -- that is, a dedicated monitor only for showing the Record side of the Avid composer window? How do you set it up?

    • @HollywoodEditingMentor
      @HollywoodEditingMentor  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I do have the ability to connect a client monitor at home using a Blackmagic Ultrastudio Monitor box, but I stopped using it because the desk isn't big enough and the fact that clients don't come to my house to view material. At the office I do need it since I work with directors and producers. Thanks for watching!

    I have a new 27 in iMac. Can I link my mac laptop to this for a second screen for my editing bins?

    • @HollywoodEditingMentor
      @HollywoodEditingMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your laptop has a HDMI port it is output only. So you couldn’t do it that way. Older Macs had this thing called Target Display Mode that might’ve allowed you to do this, but I believe that was discontinued in 2014. Most likely could use the iMac as an external monitor for your laptop. Cheers!

      Most of the shows I work on shoot 6k or 8k, but we edit with 1080p DNx36 footage in Avid.

  • @RubeVidz

    Awesome set up! Why can't you run Avid and the Producer sessions off of the same laptop?

    • @HollywoodEditingMentor
      @HollywoodEditingMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      During remote sessions, the output of my Avid goes out via OBS to PacPost Live, which is what we use for these remote sessions. This workflow really slows down the signal when I watch it back on my editing system, it's basically creating a sort of loop that bogs down the signal. That's why I got the iPad, so the playback wasn't on the same system as Avid. I even pushed it further by sending the signal from the iPad to a regular 32" inch TV via AirPlay and connecting the audio to the second input of my speakers.

    Great video! Why do you prefer using a tablet for editing? Saludos de Argentina!

    • @HollywoodEditingMentor
      @HollywoodEditingMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Que tal, hermano? I prefer the tablet because it adapts to the size of my three monitors and basically feels as if I'm gliding my hand over them. Also prefer the grip of the stylus vs the mouse, feels like I can simply move faster. The single click of the button on the stylus (which equals a double click on the mouse) to open things is great as well. Thanks for watching...saludos!

    Excelente, crees que con una laptop basta?, o estaría bueno usar mejor la nueva Mac studio?. o Crees que valga la pena sacar la MacBook Pro M1 Max, y ya usarla como laptop y la de desktop?

    • @HollywoodEditingMentor
      @HollywoodEditingMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Creo depende si ocupas algo portátil o no. Las nuevas MacBook Pro M1 Max son muy buenas y traen bastante ‘power.’ Yo no creo que pudiera estar sin una laptop. Lo bueno de la Mac Studio es que te ofrece mas puertos y tienes la flexibilidad de conectar otros aparatos.

    Hey, do you have any issue with the Monitors? I connected an apple mac studio to a couple of these asus proart but having a lot of problems. No acess to asus software hub control, and every 15 minutes the displays goes full black for 10 seconds. Maybe you can help me up? Thanks

    Do you find you are using remote software for editing "long form" content? Hardware shouldn't matter too much then

    • @HollywoodEditingMentor
      @HollywoodEditingMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have used remote software and you're right, the hardware didn't matter much. But when I have local media, it does. It's not taxing on my system, though, because I cut using proxies. Thanks for watching!
